turn on the firewall

I'm under Windows XP and recently upgraded to IE8. My Windows Firewall mysteriously became disabled and I can't activate. During the time that this has happened I downloaded IE8 and was also the activity of some viruses. I think I'm on the virus and I think that the IE8 is correct. Any suggestions?

    (1) what exactly happens when you enable the Windows Firewall?

    (2) what is the antivirus installed on the computer?

    (3) where are informed that security is controlled by group policy? What is the full error message in this respect?

    (4) what is the version of Windows installed on the computer?

    (5) did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    I would like more information about the issue.

    I recommend you to perform a clean boot.

    Placing the computer in a boot minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must perform the steps in the article-

    I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit service pack 2 and I'm unable to install the updates, this is the case since December 2011.  I received the error code 80096001. I tried to run the Fix - It, but it does nothing.  Help, please!  Also, I can't turn on the firewall.  I scanned for malware with Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and none is found.

    Thank you, but who has not helped either, so I finally had to use Recovery Manager to wipe the drive and reinstall Vista again. So far so good.

  • Windows did an update yesterday since so I will no longer post on my site without turn off the firewall in microsoft security databases.

    I use Netobjects 12 on Windows 7 with Virgin Media, all other programs work correctly, including Filezilla. I checked that NetObjects is one of the programs that are allowed to access the internet. If I turn off the firewall in MSE, everything works perfectly. I've tried it on two different sites, nothing helps. Any ideas people? Terry

    We need to know what update causes this problem. I suggest that you want to run System Restore before the update will install and install all the updated manually and see update is causing the problem.

    Select Preferences - network - system - advanced - DNS network - click + symbol - Type 8.8.8.8 - Ok - apply.

    Any Admin should be able to unlock the Firewall setting to turn on or off.

    Try to uninstall Mackeeper and try again with your administrator account. My guess is that you are going well AFTER you get rid of Mackeeper.
