  Defragmentation is the process to physically organize the contents of a hard drive or partition so that sectors of data of each file will be stored closer to reduce load and search times. SSDS can access any location on the disk at the same time. It is one of the main advantages on hard drives. It also means that it is unnecessary to defragment a Solid State Drive ever. So, no need for defragmentation is another advantage of Solid State Drives.

  Schedule Disk Defragmenter will not be disabled by default, but it should have the SSD unselected rather under the settings Choose disks to prevent the SSD to be defragmented when the program runs.

  I'm new in the world of SSDS.  I recently bought two SSDS for use with mini OWC Thunderbay e:

  ADATA SP550 - my OS El Capitan

  Samsung 850 EVO - storage media

  When I go to each drive in System Profiler, each have a bug, fat 'no' next to the field in Support of TRIM.

  I know that Apple does not want to take charge of third party records, because they will not be held responsible for data loss or corruption.  That's why System Profiler telling me this?  Or are these two truly on readers list it naughty and I should definitely not turn Trim?

  This isn't a bug. That's all just a report. Unless you are using an Apple brand SSD TRIM is not enabled. It's normal. You need a third-party utility to allow the TRIM: Trim Enabler. Or you can leave this option disabled. SSD of today can better actual work without TRIM. So you might as well not worry. See topping Talk. If the SSD using a controller strength sand THAT TRIM is not really necessary.

  Yes it is possible. The second span by car is only for storage. You cannot start it. There is no need to put a SSD in there. A regular mechanical drive will be fine.

  You will need a caddy for the second disc. On the dv7-1000 series SATA drives plug directly on the motherboard connectors. There is no need of a cable in other words, but you need a caddy to keep the drive in firmly.

  If all your data will be easily fits over 250 concerts, the best way to install SSD is just clone the old drive to the new. Personally, I use Acronis True Image Home. You don't even need any additional hardware. Simply put both drives in and start from the Acronis Disk and he sees the two disks in the computer. You can clone the old drive to the new then just positions of the switch and the computer starts from the new drive. Take a step back and enjoy the speed.

  No, you should not see a significant change in the UC records Division. The FLEX connector is a custom x 8 PCIe 3.0 slot and therefore supports about 7880 MB/s to the entire map of FLEX. It's about 3940 MB/s bandwidth of each SSD m2 on the adapter.

  It is always problematic to be around some old piece of newer hardware standards and technology. I n t have this old Satellite but my friend had it.

  Satellite L40's old laptop budget very simply the hardware configuration, so I think that you will not be able to use newest SSDS to this topic.

  I really hope someone else can post a positive experience on these updates. What you can try is to contact nearest Toshiba service provide by phone and ask for some advice. They have exact specifications for laptop and, I hope, can help you with this.

  I recently updated from a Samsung 850 Evo 256 GB SSD to the 1 TB version. Everything worked perfectly on El Capitan before the upgrade.

  Since then, my Macbook (15-inch, mid-2012, 9.1) is very reliable. It has constantly been extremely hot, that fans speed up at bottom, unless they are overridden by third-party applications (fan SSD command), and even simple things like streaming video may cause the thing to grind to a halt. The battery life is also significantly more bad for exchanging the two SSDS.

  1. almost directly after installation of the SSD using my Time Machine (from the 256 GB SSD), underside of the Macbook backup was extremely hot to the touch and the fans were at full blast all the time. I have reset the SMC and downloaded SSD fan control to override the fans. This seemed to help for a few days, but then...

  2. on the accusation, it slows to a halt, which makes the Macbook unusable. I can't understand why, because it is not as if a particular application is the cause on several occasions. I noticed that kernel_task consuming CPU during one of these "slowdowns", so I tried the fix involving passing the model identifier of IOPluginPlatformFamily.kext after you turn off the csrutil of the recovery partition. But my model identifier was not yet which are listed there, there is nothing to move.

  3. the SSD seems to work very well. Repeated with BlackMagic Disk Speed Test assessment tests show reading and writing almost 500 MB/s.

  3. I ran the Apple hardware test and he told me that he had "no problems found".

  4. I have checked inside the case for excessive dust and has no problem.

  A number of users have had problems with the new Samsung SSD.  Note that Samsung omits Mac compatibility on their web site.  Whether or not this SSD is the problem is unknown at this time.  You might consider to replace it with the prior SSD and see if there is a change.

  Application of fan control do you use?  The reason why I ask, is that all of these applications I know, allow to increase the speed of the fan, does not decrease the speed.  To do this involves an element of risk because the conditions may require the speed high ventilation and by the user, reducing can result in thermal shutdown.

  • Put the original Toshiba HDD 500 GB of the main Bay in a shopping cart, then in housing as a backup drive-ultrabay

  2. two SSDs (internal) + a HARD drive (external)

  • Put the original of the ultrabay DVD burner in an external enclosure (connected to the laptop with a USB cable SATA) and use when necessary
  • Put the original Toshiba HDD 500 GB in an external case (connected to the laptop with a USB cable SATA) and use it as a backup drive
  • Buy 2 m4 Crucial SSD (128 + 256 GB):

  -one in the main Bay as player of OS/programs (128 GB)

  -one in a basket, then in housing ultrabay as data drive (256 GB)

  I also want to let you know that a 512 GB SSD is a little more expensive than a 128 GB SSD + a 256 GB SSD. Also, I like to choose the best strategy of resistance, reliability and durabilty.

  Could you share with me the benefits & disadvantages for both strategies and tell me which is the best strategy for your point of view?

  I agree with the approach of @eos. I have configured my W520 on the same track. I have an mSATA SSD 256GB (a - Data), with a 750 GB HARD drive in the Bay of primary and a 500GB HDD in the Ultrabay slot.

  The mSATA SSD is my boot device, even if I sometimes start from one of the other disks when testing new configurations.

  The mSATA slot is SATA 2 don't bother me a bit. It's very fast. Sometimes, I put an mSATA SSD in an mSATA to the 2.5 enclosure and run in the Ultrabay SATA 3-speed housing. I'm hard pressed to notice the difference.

  You're better off using a partition of HARD drive for data for various reasons. On the one hand, at least write cycles committed SSDS, longer it will last. Second, if your system partition is lost, your data is still intact. Third, you can save a small partition of data rather than a larger combo partion.

  I love having the flexibility of two open bays using the mSATA offer slot - i.e. I sometimes swap in my optical drive in the Ultrabay slot, etc.

  Your laptop is equipped with a 256 GB SSD hard drive (Lite-on 22x80mm m2-2280).

  There is the original SSD 512 GB m2 2280.

  Two SSD connectors but there is a little space for the second (not 100% sure).

  The BIOS will not be a problem. Yes you could clone/copy the content of a concert from 250 to 500 concert by using a "proportional resize" so all partitions would be double and you will not get a couple hundred gigs of space.
