Ubuntu: Change the keyboard with xmodmap causes closing bracket key to stop working

I use an Apple keyboard, so I use a xmodmap file customized for change my alt and super keys. When I apply this file using xmodmap, the bracket key closing unresponsive in Firefox, but works fine in all other programs. This means that I can't type a bracket closing or a right brace anywhere in Firefox. in the address bar, the box search, settings, Web sites, etc. It's as if I'm even not press.

I can 'fix' the key by resetting the xmodmap, with the command: setxkbmap-layout us
(but then of course the keys alt and super are changed, so I can't actually use the computer like this)

I apply my file with the command xmodmap: xmodmap ~ /. Xmodmap
My ~ /. Xmodmap file is pasted below - you can see that I'm not remapping the key closing bracket (i.e. keycode 35, keysym 0x5d, 'bracketright' according to xev). Troubleshooting information has been taken for the duration of my layout xmodmap.

Please keep in mind: this is only a problem for Firefox. Closing the bracket key works in other programs. So I suspect that it is a bug in Firefox.

==== Start of .Xmodmap file ====

! Swap Alt and Cmd keys.

add Lock = Caps_Lock
add Control = Control_L Control_R
add Mod1 = Alt_L 0x007D
!because the "0x007D" will assign the "+*]" key to the unity menu
add Mod2 = Num_Lock
add Mod4 = Super_L Super_R
add Mod5 = Mode_switch ISO_Level3_Shift ISO_Level3_Shift ISO_Level3_Shift

! Configure '=' key on numpad as '='.
keycode 0x7D = equal

! Configure shift-space as space instead of nbsp
keycode 65 =space space

Apparently I should have studied a little better. This seemed to be independent, but in fact the specific post, I'm a link has solved the problem for me:

http://UbuntuForums.org/ShowPost.php?p=11900141 & postcount = 6

Either I had to remove "0x007D" of the line starting with "Add Mod1".

  • How can I change the keyboard on Portege R500?

    Hello everyone,

    I get a Toshiba - 10J Portege R500, with the QWERTY keyboard.
I want to change it with the QWERTY keyboard, because I usually use the French.

But I don't know on the net the explanation or detail to achieve this.
Someone get some photos or some tips to change the keyboard on this laptop.

    Thank you

Do you want really to replace by yourself and lose the warranty?
The Portégé R500 is a portable large company and I think that it s not the cheaper one.

In your case, I would not risk losing the warranty.
So ask the Toshiba service provider in your country for a keyboard layout AZERY-compatible and for replacement.

I think that it s safe.

  • How to change the keyboard on Portege M300-101?

    Hello

I have a Portege M300-101, and I would like to know if there are instructions online for how to change the keyboard itself. Our unit comes with, I think, a Belgian keyboard installed... and a U.S. keyboard in the box. Are there instructions available for how to move on the keyboards? Also, I guess it's a good idea to switch the keyboard before turning on the laptop for the first time. Do you agree?

    Best,
    Dainis W. Michel

    Hello Danis

Unfortunately there is no public document on this subject. You can try to do it alone, but please don t forget that on this guarantee valid path will be cancelled. Basically, the replacement of keyboard is not well complicated and technicians may need 15 minutes to do.

In my opinion, you can take a risk and pay for replacement before losing the valid guarantee. The Portege is very expensive and of damage to property, it is very risky to be unsecured.

If you still think that you do not write anything again.

  • Satellite P300 - 1DT PSPCCE - how to change the keyboard

    Hello

I am looking for documentation of disassembly for my laptop.
I need to change the keyboard. I have 2 letters that are broken.

    Thanks a lot

    Clickservce

    Hello

Disassembly guides are not for the public, you can download the manual on the official website of Toshiba. I've never seen there other documentation.

In any case, exchange of keyboard should not be complicated. Just remove the keyboard between the speakers and the keyboard stand. After that, you can lift the keyboard itself but be careful with the keyboard under the keyboard cable. You must remove it also.

    Good luck! :)

  • How to change the keyboard on iPad

    iPad 3. iOS 9.0.2

The present layout of the keyboard is QWERTY, but I need to change it for accented AZERTY. I did that in 'General', 'Keyboard', 'keyboards","French","Accentuated QWERTY"and got a tick against this choice

It did not work (on screen keyboard remained QWERTY even by turning the device off and on again) so I changed the country of France (more), but it still doesn't work. What should I do?

In addition, equals the accented QWERTY as I have on my Windows laptop with about 15 symbols (| ☺ ~ ^ μ ² etc.) are not on a QWERTY keyboard?

  • change the keyboard from English to Korean and addition of Greek and Hebrew to the version of Word 97.

My wife has a new laptop Lenovo with windows 7 and we tried to change the keyboard to add Korean, and we cannot.  On prvious Windows on the older PC operating system, it has allowed this and all we had to do was to toggle between the two.  My wife is Korean and wants to send emails in Korean to family and friends here and in Korea.  Was able to do so until the new laptop.

I'm having a hard time getting Greek and Hebrew and Latin spelling, even if I checked to make them work, they do not.  I have Vista Premium on my Toshiba PC.

    Hello

    ·        Have you installed the Korean language on the system through Windows updates?

I suggest to install the Korean language through Windows updates, then select the language for the keyboard layout and check.

How can I get additional language files?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/how-do-I-get-additional-language-files

Once you have done the installation of the language pack, add it to the keyboard layout, and then check to see if your wife is able to type in the Korean language.

    Add an input language

It may be that there is a problem with the version of Microsoft office Word 97. This is a very old version and the last is Microsoft office 2010, I suggest you to uninstall Microsoft office Word 97 from the system and install Microsoft Office 2010. Click on the link below.

  • Where is the option to change the keyboard shortcuts in AE?

    Hello

I am very pleased with Adobe After Effects, but how is it still possible that you can not change the keyboard shortcuts in the application? ! Adobe is well known for making very friendly interfaces, then, how is it possible that such a simple command is not the EI? There is a good chance that he will change?

    Best wishes

    Michal

You can change the keyboard shortcuts. You are editing a text file. You can find the file by opening the Preferences dialog box and reveal in Finder/Explorer the button at the bottom of the General category.

If you want to make a feature request, you can do so here:

When you look at the keyboard shortcuts for MAC, the 100% zoom is broken as alt '0' of the command, and yet it is displayed in the drop-down list as 'n'?

    Screen Shot 2013-05-01 at 16.37.49.png

Is it possible to change the shortcuts. The 100% zoom was simply command (apple) page '0', which is now fit to.

Can someone help with how to change shortcuts, please?

    See you soon

The shortcut by default to zoom to 100% should be command + 1.

You can change the keyboard shortcuts in the Edit (Command + Option + SHIFT + K)

I need to change the keyboard on a tecra m5.
Unfortunately, this is not mentioned in the manual how to do this.

    Please advice.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards
    Wim Gijsels

    Hello

I think that it s not mentioned in the manual, because I should only be made of professional technicians for laptop

In any case, a friend of exchanged me the keyboard and told me to remove the keyboard first support. Who s the plastic cover between the keyboard and LCD display. So open the LCD screen and use your fingers on both sides and lift the keyboard bracket. There are two screws that attach the keyboard under the door-keyboard. Remove the two and lift the keyboard. Last but not least remove the keyboard plate to remove the cable from the keyboard connector.

As you can read it's not that complicated and I hope I could help a bit! :)

  • My screen iphone6 is cracked and in my country, they can only change the iphone with a new one and with a very high price. Is there anyway that I could replace just the screen?

My screen iphone6 is cracked and in my country, they can only change the iphone with a new one and with a very high price. Is there anyway that I could replace just the screen?

No, if you want to keep all rights to the service or support from Apple. Not to mention the fact that it then will be bork Touch ID and make the phone unusable if ever, you restore or update of iOS.

Apple doesn't sell parts of the iPhone. There is no legitimate sources for replacement screens.
