Ubuntu installation on workstation 5.5.9

I want to install Linux Ubuntu on workstation 5.5.9 and clarifying some details:

will be the last 10.04.1desktop ubuntu works well on Wmv 5.5.9? (VMware installed on Cel 2.66 GHz with 2 GB RAM)

When you create a new virtual machine, it is possible to specify the size of the drive, GB - whose size would be perfect for Ubuntu?

Also, should I tick boxes 'Allocate all the space now' and 'split the drive into 2 GB files?

Another question: I currently have a virtual machine that is running Win XP. As I see my virtual network settings, I have two virtual cards installed: VMware Network Adapter VMnet1(Host-only) and VMware Network Adapter VMne8 (NAT) that has been configured by default during the installation, I did not. Should I have allowed this two adapters? Or adapters only need one? (and resources)

Hello.

will be the last 10.04.1desktop ubuntu works well on Wmv 5.5.9? (VMware installed on Cel 2.66 GHz with 2 GB RAM)

The first version of Workstation to officially support Ubuntu 10.04 is Workstation 7.1, there will probably be problems with the old version.

When you create a new virtual machine, it is possible to specify the size of the drive, GB - whose size would be perfect for Ubuntu?

Of course, that depends entirely on how much space you will need.  If you are testing just, then as little as 10-15 GB should be fine.

Also, should I tick boxes 'Allocate all the space now' and 'split the drive into 2 GB files?

The separation of 2 GB is a good option to use.

No doubt will be one is enough, you can choose the one that makes the most sense. If you do not need to leave the host with network traffic, use VMnet1.  If you have to go out with network traffic, then use VMnet8 or bridge connection (which is probably VMnet0).

Good luck!

I try to install Ubuntu 10.04 RC 64-bit on this box, however, when I boot the installation media, I get:

"This core requires a 64 - x 86 processor but only detected an i686 CPU."

You may have already checked this, but have you turned on VT in the BIOS and then makes a cold reboot after that?  You can use this utility to check if you should be able to run 64-bit guests.  Do you have other running 64-bit guests?

    Hello

the laptop came with a 64-bit OS of Windows 8 to address preinstalled.

I wanted to also install Linux Ubuntu 13.04. 64-bit office.

At the start of the installation of Ubuntu, is not giving me the opportunity to install Ubuntu with Windows 8. It is said, that it has not detected a different OS (called OS) on the disk. But there are 8 Windows installed!

I am not competent in Linux operating system installations, I like fooling around with manual installation.

In BIOS it is selected "UEFI Boot" and "Secure Boot" is disabled.

The installation procedure has worked, but why he recognizes that there are already Windows 8 is installed.

    See you soon.

    Hello

It seems that Ubuntu has problems to install alongside Win8.
I've seen several posts in the various bodies in this regard.

I have no solution 1 button for you. In fact, I have no real solution at all.
Instead, I'd like to direct you to a (global) guide that may be helpful.
But I suggest you to keep that you:

    (1) create a recovery media for Win8! In case things go wrong, you can freely download Ubuntu as many times as you want. WIN8 recovery media will cost you money in case where you have not created them.
    (2) make backups of your important data!

  • Setup / Installation of Workstation 7.1.2 301548 - grey window (Win 7 x 64)

    Hello!

I am trying to install the update from VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 on Windows 7 X 64 machine. The file download perfectly and starts the configuration screen. This screen is only a gray box with a windows title. When right clicking the window, I get the context menu of Internet Explorer. Even when saving the file and open it with IE directly, it don't work. It tries to load an ActiveX control so.

Does anyone have the same problem or a solution?

I already tried to resolve all the lowest possible security settings and of course, I ran the installation as admin once started, the window can only be closed by killing the process itself. Even several reboots did not help.

    Thanks for any help!

    Kind regards

  • New installation of Workstation - weird error - cannot install

After a long time, I install vmware workstation to try. But a very strange problem prevents me from being able to install it. When I run the Setup, I get the standard UAC prompt and then an unclosable with the title "Vmware Workstation Setup" window opens and I get the error below:

    --

    Script error:

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

    --

I realized then that it is an internet window explore and navigation in an html file that is extracted to the temporary directory. I've attached screenshots of the same thing.

At this point, I can't do anything and the installation process is not going forward. Some link I click on the html page, I get a page not found error. & I'm unable to close the configuration window by using the Task Manager and kill the process of installation of the exception.

This is the strangest error I've seen with an installer, especially with the site being open isn't even Vmware (adobe)

This happened to someone else? I downloaded the installer together again, and there is no change.

    Any help appreciated.

    System information:

    Win 7 Ultimate x 64. 6 GB OF RAM

Have never installed a product vmware on this machine, even if I installed xp mode.

The system is up to date with patches

There is a bug in the installation of VMware.

To solve this - make sure that there is no "index.htm" file in the same directory as the installation of Vmware file (that you downloaded). In the case otherwise it would be copied to the TMP folder to the right place and installation will fail.

  • Toshiba HW in Ubuntu installation?

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite L655. It came with a Win7. The first thing I did after buying was to annihilate Win7 and install ubuntu 10.10 on the entire hard drive (not a dual boot or Wubi install). Now I want to try ubuntu 11.04 beta from a live usb, and I'm changing the boot order. The laptop does not start from the USB key. I'm unable to access the BIOS. I tried pressing ESC, F2 etc while turning on the laptop. So far, I have not been able to access the BIOS Setup.

I tried Googling and I read on laptops from Toshiba "without inheritance. But do not know if mine is such a. Now, I have Win nothing in my laptop. I have only ubuntu 10.10. I need to access the BIOS Setup and change the boot order so that my laptop boot on the USB. How can I do this?

Toshiba has developed hw to Win. There is a similar one for Linux?

    Any advice would be welcome.

At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux and doesn't provide any tool or utility for Linux OS.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what operating system you have installed, you should be able to enter the BIOS settings and it must be F2 at startup.

When you start your laptop Toshiba welcome screen will appear and at the bottom, you will see little info line where is written press F2 to enter the BIOS or F12 to get into the boot menu.

You can enter menu STARTING using F12 at startup?

  • Dell Inspiron 13-7352 ubuntu installation?

    Hello.

I bought this phone today, I put my USB to boot ubuntu, press F12, select USB and Ubuntu install, run, and then the system has been installed.

When the laptop has rebooted the screen is stay at purple screen :(

The same memory has been tested in other laptop and work: S

Why can't I install linux? I need gnu/linux because I am developer and is very important to my work.

If Dell has no linux support I need change the laptop and buy HP laptop (like my last laptop)

    Kind regards!

I got it to work! It took a while, but that's exactly what I did. I'll try to enlighten as much the problem as I can.

    Step 1:

Download Ubuntu LTS 64 bits of Ubuntu.com 14.04.2

I have not tested the latest version then I would say using the LTS version because it certainly has support for UEFI systems. It MUST be 64-bit. 32-bit has no support for UEFI systems.

    Step 2:

Download UnetBootin Linux Live USB Creator. This Boot Disk Creator will make bootable using UEFI which is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

    Step 3:

UnetBootin allows you to create the startup disk.

    Step 4:

Press the start menu and reboot the PC while now the key [SHIFT]. This will take you to the advanced boot of the windows boot loader menu.

    Step 5:

In the advanced boot menu, press 'Use of a device' and boot from the USB drive.

    Step 6:

Select "install Ubuntu along beside the bootloader windows"(or something smilar) installing Ubuntu. "." This will install correctly.

    THEN YOU'RE DONE!

I hope this helps! Finally, it worked for me!

    Hello

I am planning to buy a laptop and I need to install workstation 6.5 on it. I want to run ESX 3.5 and ESX 4 on two separate VMs for this workstation. Now, I read on the whitepapers that ESX 3.5 is 32 bit and requires 32 bits processor while ESX 4 is 64-bit and requires the 64-bit processor.

I don't know if I'll buy 64-bit processor, will be 32 bit ESX 3.5 still manages to run on it or not.

Basically, I need a list of all the hardware requirements that must be completed in order to give to the seller. Please help me on this point, covering areas IE VT support, processor in 32 / 64 bit, min MHz CPU, memory, hard drive (SATA / ATA / SCSI).

If I go for 64-bit processors (duo core 2 for example), it will also support 32-bit applications and OS is to say ESX 3.5 and other 32-bit software in my windows OS.

  • machine Ubuntu 10.04 copied host Mac (fusion) to 7 lost Workstation network eth0

I wanted to distribute VM, I 'pre configured' to my students. I prepare the machines on VMware FUSION 3.1 on Snow Leopard (Mac).

I have problems in college class configuration: I copy fully operational files of the directory with an Ubuntu 10.04 (with the latest VMware tools installed on Mac) on Windows 7 PC running Workstation 7.

The machine copied boots under 7 workstation, but eth0 fails to start and the loopback interface is available. Not very useful as a 'server '.

I tried NAT, connected by a bridge and host-only for the machine: no change.

I removed and replaced the control panel of the virtual machine interface: no effect.

Comments are welcome - especially if others have the same problem.

    --

    Prof. Peter Goedtkindt

    Hello Peter,.

I have not checked this for Ubuntu 10.04 but the same problem appeared on earlier versions of ubuntu and it isn't really a question of VMware.

Let me explain, I think what is happening is that you are not using "copy" when the question "have you you move or copy this virtual machine" appears.

Copy is the answer if you want to use clones in the same network, but it has a side effect.

This means that the NETWORK card receives a new Mac address and UUID. Due to this udev is of the opinion that there is a new network interface.

You can check the/etc/iftab(5) and interfaces.

In Ubuntu 8.04, the solution to this problem was simply remove the associating rule udev and restart.

    sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
    sudo reboot

The start-up of the ubuntu installation should recreate this file. (Sure do make a copy before you delete the file)

I don't know if the solution of "throw the udev rule" still works for 10.04, but I'd be surprised if it's not

    Hope this helps,
