64-bit only startup/Ubuntu installation on ESXi 4.0 - Yes, the paravirtualization is disabled

Heya,

I have VMWare ESXi 4.0 U1 installed on a workstation Dell Precision 490 (dual Xeon 2.00 Ghz 5130 processors).

I try to install Ubuntu 10.04 RC 64-bit on this box, however, when I boot the installation media, I get:

"This core requires a 64 - x 86 processor but only detected an i686 CPU."
Failed to start - please use a kernel suitable for your processor. »

I did some research and I've seen this thread:

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/146242

and this article:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1008170

However, I checked, certainly, I have Paravirtulisation, and I have also set up this virtual machine as a machine custom, selecting Ubuntu 64-bit as type.

Anything else?

See you soon,.

Victor

You may have already checked this, but have you turned on VT in the BIOS and then makes a cold reboot after that?  You can use this utility to check if you should be able to run 64-bit guests.  Do you have other running 64-bit guests?

    Hi Hal K,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you run a 64-bit version of Windows, you can perform an upgrade to another 64-bit Windows version.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows, and vice versa, you will need to back up your files and then perform a custom of the version of Windows you want to install installation.

  • Blue screen on startup after installation of service pack 3

Original title: big problems with Windows service pack 3

My pc runs xp edition media with a processor intel dc. I had to reformat using recovery discs cleaning all ok using microsoft update until after that load successfully and the installation of Service pack 3. Start theres a brief flash of B.S.O.D. then it goes straight to load the page option of safe mode. Startup journal raises a whole series of errors. drivers of not start tearing my hair on it!

If there is a problem starting, XP is configured to automatically try to start again and you can stuck in a loop not being able to go beyond the screen boot options, or none of these startup options you choose will work only.

Sometimes, when XP has a problem starting or falls down and tries to start again, it will give you a "short" menu of boot options and none of them will appear to be good to get your system going again.  You have tried them all!

The options are similar to the Advanced Boot Options menu XP, but the only option that you need (disable automatic error system reboot) are not offered, because XP went too far during the boot process and offers a limited number of boot options.

If this is the case, you must call Options menu advanced boot yourself until you do not see the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

When you get the XP Advanced Options correct start menu you want to see, he has options on it like these:

    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt

    Enable Boot logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last good Configuration known (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debug mode
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

    Start Windows normally
    Reset
    Return to OS Choices Menu

You need to choose in this menu is the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Then if XP does not start normally, you will see an error screen with information and clues about the problem and then you can decide what to do next.

If you do not see the automatic restart on system failure option turn it off, you must reset your system and start typing the key F8 on the keyboard until you see her disable automatic restart on system failure option.

If you miss the window of opportunity F8, you must try again and start tapping the F8 key with more urgency (earlier and more frequently) until you see disable automatic restart on system failure, and then select.

You must keep trying the F8 menu until you see disable automatic restart on system failure option, and select it.

If your system has a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), we need to know what the screen says:

Here's a BSOD example showing information you provide:

    http://TechRepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpg

Send for the nose and the Red arrows (3 to 4 lines total).

Send all * line STOP message since there are clues in the 4 parameters.

If it looks like there is some kind of name listed in the STOP message file, send this line also.

Ignore the boring text unless it seems important to you.  We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.

If your ntbootlog is display messages «Is a not load driver...» ', this does not necessarily mean that a problem...

  • Dell Inspiron 13-7352 ubuntu installation?

    Hello.

I bought this phone today, I put my USB to boot ubuntu, press F12, select USB and Ubuntu install, run, and then the system has been installed.

When the laptop has rebooted the screen is stay at purple screen :(

The same memory has been tested in other laptop and work: S

Why can't I install linux? I need gnu/linux because I am developer and is very important to my work.

If Dell has no linux support I need change the laptop and buy HP laptop (like my last laptop)

    Kind regards!

I got it to work! It took a while, but that's exactly what I did. I'll try to enlighten as much the problem as I can.

    Step 1:

Download Ubuntu LTS 64 bits of Ubuntu.com 14.04.2

I have not tested the latest version then I would say using the LTS version because it certainly has support for UEFI systems. It MUST be 64-bit. 32-bit has no support for UEFI systems.

    Step 2:

Download UnetBootin Linux Live USB Creator. This Boot Disk Creator will make bootable using UEFI which is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

    Step 3:

UnetBootin allows you to create the startup disk.

    Step 4:

Press the start menu and reboot the PC while now the key [SHIFT]. This will take you to the advanced boot of the windows boot loader menu.

    Step 5:

In the advanced boot menu, press 'Use of a device' and boot from the USB drive.

    Step 6:

Select "install Ubuntu along beside the bootloader windows"(or something smilar) installing Ubuntu. "." This will install correctly.

    THEN YOU'RE DONE!

I hope this helps! Finally, it worked for me!

  • Vista 32 bit will not complete installation, computer says drivers are outdated.

Hello and thank you for your interest to help me!

My laptop MSI recently broke down after a year long and courageous, overheating I speculate... So I need to reinstall Vista, since I have no backup discs (shame on me!)... This is where it gets complicated...

I try to install my Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, sometimes to "complete installation" and then goes no further.

I speculated, it might be wrong with the drivers, I went to the website of MSI, found my model and burn it on a CD. During the early stages of installation I chose to locate the drivers, the computer shows me those that I put on the disk, and then when I hit 'next' I am told that pilots I've selected are outdated, which is strange, because the way they come directly to the site of companies.

    Some additional info:
-I can not start the computer in safe mode or normal mode, it keeps loading.
-None of the partitions in computers 3 contains no data.
-Once the computer restarted I tried to insert the disk that contains the drivers... Did nothing.

Your help to find my poor baby and running is very appreciated!

Overheating can cause a lot of problems in a computer.

If the info on how to do a clean install is not enough, you must contact the manufacturer of the computer.

Here's how to do a clean install:

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Get a folder of should not be interpreted only error during installation.

I downloaded and installed 32 bit Win7.  Realized I had a 64-bit computer and downloaded that too.  I will install the 64-bit version and I get this error when the Setup program is almost finished unpacking setup2.box.

We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded.
Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have the authorization of security on the folder for
write files and that the folder is not read-only.

I see this in the related topics, but there is no mention of Windows 7 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit.  If this is true MS needs to make it more obvious what is being downloaded!

However, if you want Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64 bit, or if you are running Windows XP, you must do a custom or a new Installation which must be launched by booting off the DVD of 64-bit Windows 7.  This means that you wipe the OS current completely from your system and install the new operating system from scratch.  To perform a clean installation or a Custom, please contact Digital River, unless you have already ordered a backup DVD with your first order.

    Hi all

This is not a bug with Windows 7, as mentioned above. There is a bug with the application of Digital River. For the troubleshooting steps on the way to approach this, contact Digital River.

  • resxtop is 32-bit only?

I installed the sdk "VMware-vSphere-Perl-SDK-5.1.0-780721.x86_64.gz" perl on centos 6.3 - x86_64, apparently with success (after a few oddities, such as the UUID requiring libuuid-devel). However, resxtop is looking for a bunch of 32-bit executable that are not normally installed. I installed a few of them, but he continues to ask for more. for example:

/ usr/lib/VMware-VCLI/bin/resxtop: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc ++. so.6: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

I had once in libxml2, yum has refused to install the 32-bit version; You can't have both 32-bit and 64-bit at the same time, so just install all required libraries 32-bit does not work either.

I have this installed on a system 4.2 Zenoss, which only works on 64 bit. It takes resxtop to monitor the esxi systems. Is there a 64-bit version of resxtop? I have not even tried the rest of the SDK, even if I wait that perl modules will work fine.

I don't think that there is a 64-bit version, you need to install the 32-bit libraries (glibc.i686 I think - my RHEL/CentOS is rusty)...

  • installation of windows 7 pro 64-bit will not complete installation. clean install.

I tried to install windows 7 pro 64-bit and I got all the way to the last part of the installation and the screen goes black for 5 minutes approximately and restarts. then he tries to run windows and the screen becomes black and black rest for at least 30 mins +... is when I gave up on it. What can be wrong? I have overcome all the req and even tried 2 games of motherboard and processor and came to the same problem. I think it's a bad dvd but the store won't Exchange it. They let me just go back. then before I have to send back tomorrow I figured I would give it a try more.

at this moment I have amd athlon 64 3800 + and 4 GB of ram and I also tried a quad core from amd phenom 2 and 6 GB of ram with the same result.

Joe can you be more specific, what stage the installation goes on black screen...?

I had a same problem once and there is a possible resolution to do so,
If it is in the final phase of installation is mainly due to the video card..,.
Then restart the computer and keep tapping F8, select "enable Mode low resolution" because the option and now the installation program will continue...
see if it progresses and ends with the installation by inviting you to enter the user name and password then your product key.
Once you have finished with these steps and that reach you your office update your video card driver and restart the computer.
Hope it will work for you :D

  • 650 HP laptop Windows 7 64-bit boot problem after installation of the graphics driver

I bought the HP 650 laptop which came with Suse Linux.

I installed 64-bit Windows and tried to install the corresponding graphics driver:

High definition (HD) of Intel Graphics Driver

as indicated in the list of drivers for Windows 64-bit here:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5225013&...

After installing the driver asked me to restart the computer and after the reboot, boot, Windows boot after displaying the Windows logo on black background the computer restarts again before you boot into Windows.

After this crash to start a startup repair is suggested and I can complete the restore of the system that allows me to connect to Windows but I have not installed display drivers and things like Aero do not work.

I tried several times and re - install drivers and had the same problem after each attempt.

    Help, please.

It's quite a few updates failed.  This can be linked to the issue, but we don't know really until the update problem is resolved.

Read this document to Microsoft as it addresses this particular error.  It also has various tools to try in case the first option does not correct the problem.

You can also try the Windows Update troubleshooting utility included in Windows 7.

Go to start > Control Panel > find and solve the problems under system and security > fixed problems with Windows Update under system and security.

    Let me know what happens.

It seems that you try to install the version of Windows on your Mac, that will not work.

I haven't used a DVD for installation of Age, but I would have thought that the Mac version would also be on the disk.

I'm not a Mac person, but I think that the executable file would have the .dmg extension.
