UEFI BIOS access, change Boot Drive order to SSD - arrgghhh

810 new - 170st.  Added a Samsung 840EVO SSD.

The intention for SSD as boot drive.

Ran Wizard Samsung, software data Migration run. All successful.

Cannot access bios to change the boot drive order.

You also have to switch to ACHI mode for full implementation of the DSS.

When I click to enter advanced settings the icon records the click... nothing happens.

I understand that I must go through the UEFI

VERY frustrating.

Any help?

Hey Dean.  Thanks for the note.  Not sure that I can accurately describe the nightmare of everything but I will try.

BIOS would repeatedly freeze mode back or vertical menu.  I only had 2 minutes to make a change.

The factory setting was also Raid!  With a single disk.  Superb.

He spent two hours on the phone with technical support in the East. First call spent 1/2 hour then had massive language issues. Then bad attitudes and after having finally got a supervisor on the phone, he yelled at me because I added an SSD as if I had the nerve, which makes the system that I wanted it to be.  VERY unprofessional.

Result: Finally got BIOS to work by unplugging everything including power supply, keyboard/mouse USB and network.  Pressed the power button / stop for 10 seconds.  It resets the BIOS.

Still wouldn't see the new SSD as boot however drive.

After shouting by the controller to support, so I finally did what I should have done 2.5 hours earlier.

I made records.  Pulled the battery and under BIOS.  Unplugged the HARD drive, installed the SSD, and factory reinstalled the system on the SSD.  Taken from the HARD drive, formatted, it on my HARD drive and reinstalled duplicator.

End result...?  Works like a monkey violated today.

Just be aware when you reset the BIOS like this, at the start, the fan of the machine runs at high speed for 1 to 2 minutes.  Looks like one of my 2900 quad-processor poweredge servers!  Then he stops, restarts at a more normal speed of fan and all is well.  I mention this so that someone can think that the machine is about to take off like a Lear jet!

Thanks for the help and advice.

  • Satellite P70-A01D: change the drive letters after the 2nd SSD upgrade

I think it's a generic UEFI / Win 8.1 question (not according to model).

However, FWIW, I have a Satellite P70-A01D (bought locally here in Australia).

    It is a victory of 16 GB 17.3 inch Gen4 i7 4700MQ Intel HM86 8.0 64-bit RAM.
    http://www.MyToshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/P70/psplpa-01d002/specifications

I updated the OS to Win 8.1

The P70 is supplied with a drive Bay HARD vacuum #2 - I bought a 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD that I want to use as the main system disk / boot Win 8.1.

I installed this SSD in bays #2 and from there I had no problem using the wizard of Samsun cloning software provided with the SSD (VCC 4.0) to clone my 1 TB on the SSD system.

There are a lot of instructions from Samsun and around the web on how to clone and "substitute" of a HDD with a SSD - however there are much less when it comes to 'Add' the SSD - in the #2 Bay - while always keeping the original HDD fully functional as an additional drive.

After execution of the cloning software, I tried just go into the settings of the UEFI on reboot and change the order of the boot drive placing the SSDS over HARD drive.

It worked but there are obviously questions still as I had not renamed readers SSD worked as system but he was editing as D: and HARD drive was still C: and most of the system/application paths were always scheduled to access C:!

It led to the crash and restart cycles of the Bureau (? & or explorer.exe?) and two consistent error messages:
-"SkyDrive engine Sync host has stopped working".
-"Host for the synchronization setting process has stopped working".

I saw in the Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Online Storage-online-online right click on each drive disk management online online that I can access > however
    (a) I'm not sure if the solution I need is this simple;
    (b) nervous about change of letter on a disk while running the system; and
    (C) uncertain steps in order of evolution [IE. C: (non - sys) becomes M; D: (sys) becomes C:...

At the moment via UEFI I'm back to working with the system on the HARD disk rather than on the SSD seems stable and without compromise of my screwing around!

Apologies for the long post by train to make sure to include all relevant information. I think that my final goal is double win bootable 8.1 / Ubuntu 12.04 of the SSDS probably with Ubuntu on a 50 GB partition leaving 200 GB (enough?). I want to keep a slab of SSD space available for photo and video editing: +/-100 GB!

I wondered simply assign new letters to readers, however the notes at the bottom of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter state:

You cannot change a drive letter if the drive is a system partition or a boot partition.

    Suggestions please?

    Hello

I think you could try to change the letter to readers as suggested in the Microsoft article.
Where this is not possible, try to use 3rd party such as GParted software.
    http://gparted.org/LiveUSB.php

You could try changing the drive letters might start to the top of the unit using the live USB version.
But it might be possible that your system would not initialize correctly after this change.

So you should not forget to mark the partition as bootable.

    Your comments would be appreciated

  • ThinkPad 13 - cannot enter the UEFI BIOS without entering the W10 first

I have a brand new 13 Thinkpad which I'm really pleased.  However, the user manual seems to be wrong.  I can't enter the UEFI BIOS in F1.

It seems that the only way to get into the BIOS is first go to W10 and make a shift/reboot or a restart/F1.

OK, suppose that at some point in the future I need to access the BIOS (ex: changing boot options) and is not a job W10 or perhaps corruption W10.)

How to enter BIOS without first W10? BIOS maybe consulted independent of the operating system?

    Hello and welcome,

It is by design.  "Shutdown" in Win 10 more resembles the hibernation and it is not safe change hardware/BIOS setup in this State.

F1/F12/ENTER should be available after a boot failure or a forced shutdown via a long press on the power button.

BTW, UPDATE/restart and restart should just do the same thing. SHIFT button should cause a real stop after a followed Fx market should work.

My boot drive is a SSD drive and I would like to write him as little as possible. Thanks for any input from anyone.

    Hello

/ Configuration settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 start you so look at the screen - boot order should be set to
Hard drive 1 for normal operation.

Sound like you may need to run the repair of booting from the Vista disc.

Try Options recovery or a disk of Vista startup repair.

Also from the command PROMPT on the Console (if possible) recovery or a Vista disk

    SFC/scannow
    Press enter

    and after that runs away

    Chkdsk /f /r
    Press enter

    (Spaces between C and / k and / and f and /)

Retry (if necessary) after Chkdsk startup repair.

  • Boot from USB or DVD with UEFI bios upgrade

    Hello

I have an Alienware Aurora R4. I am trying to upgrade the BIOS A03 to A05. My system uses the UEFI boot loader. I have problems starting in anything except through the windows.

I tried to make a bootable USB flash drive with both the HP disk storage format tool and Rufus using the win98 and FreeDOS as the operating system. The bootable flash drive is recognized when I do F12 and I chose to start. It goes straight into windows.

I tried to boot from the drivers and utilities disk and once again, he is going directly into windows.

In my BIOS, I value UEFI then CD/DVD the HD device boot order and still it doesn't start from one of these devices.

Is it possible either due to UEFI? If I understand correctly this is a 64-bit application and will not recognize any OS 32-bit like BACK. Is this true?

What I have to go into the BIOS and change it for a legacy instead of EUFI start-up and if I do this will I have no problem starting after I do the upgrade of BIOS and return to EUFI?

    Thank you

    Mike

I think that you have solved your problem.  If you need boot from a USB device, it will boot UEFI information appropriate unless your BIOS has an option to return to the start-up inherited automatically.

Updated the BIOS normally resets the configuration to the default configuration for the computer.  If you are unable to update the BIOS, you will need to look through the BIOS configuration page to ensure that your settings are correct.  I would not be surprised if the first parameter you have to do to come back to the UEFI boot mode.

  • Satellite P840: How to create the secure boot with UEFI Bios recovery disk

    Hello

I have laptop P840 that came pre-installed with Windows 8, which I've upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.
I then updated to Windows Pro 8.1 by Windows store. Please notify:

    1. how to create a DVD repair or start for windows 8.1 pro with UEFI Bios and boot secured.

    2. I created a USB recovery using the control panel in Windows Pro 8.1. It starts OK. It will be the same as that I've created using the Toshiba Media recovery creator or will it drivers Windows Pro 8.1?

    3. check partitions with disk management, then 3 (450MO, 350 MB and GB 10.90) recovery partitions, 1 EFI system partition and 2 primary (C: programs) and D: for data. I created the recovery DVD and USB 2 disks. Can I remove the 3 recovery partitions?

Your help will be very appreciated.

I found your previous thread on this topic:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=74272

    > 1. How to create a DVD repair or start for windows 8.1 pro with UEFI Bios and boot secured.
To be able to boot from sources other than the drive HARD internal, the boot mode must be set to the CSM and secure boot must be disabled!

    > 2. I created a USB recovery using the control panel in Windows Pro 8.1. It starts OK. It will be the same as that I've created using the Toshiba Media recovery creator or will it drivers Windows Pro 8.1?

Your laptop has been preloaded with Win 8. Right? For example, the USB flash stick memory you just use the Toshiba Recovery media creator contains the Image of Toshiba with Windows 8. Don t mix this Toshiba image with the image that can be created using Microsoft's own backup and restore function. Both are different pictures!

    > 3. Check it with disk management, then 3 (450MO, 350 MB and GB 10.90) recovery partitions, 1 EFI system partition and 2 partitions primary (C: programs) and D: for data. I created the recovery DVD and USB 2 disks. Can I remove the 3 recovery partitions?

The last partition contains the files on HARD drive recovery. Usually this partition will be created again when you use the Toshiba Recovery disk to put the laptop back to factory settings. So in the case where you n t need this files or the partition, you can delete

I bought on ebay and the seller sold me a dubious version of xp so I want to format and install my own at the start he said:

KE - E05: the LAN adapter's configuration is corrupted or has not been initialized. Boot agent cannot continue

The message looks like you tried to boot and install Windows LAN

If you want to change the boot order, I recommend pressing the F12 key, immediately after that the laptop was turned on!

A new start menu should appear, then you can choose the reader of CD/DVD (ODD) and a boot device.

Also by pressing the C button should allow you to boot from the CD inserted, bootable.

  • Since the update by Satellite L750 - Win7 for Win10 I lost access to the UEFI BIOS)

    Hello everyone

Since my upgrade to Windows 10 32 bit Windows 7 32 bit, I am unable to access the BIOS (UEFI).

I try to access BIOS because I want to do a clean install of Windows 10 64-bit, DVD, or USB key.

I did the setting-> security update & -> Recovery-> Advanced Startup restart now-> then I clicked on troubleshooting-> Advanced Options-> and I can not find the UEFI (BIOS) settings.

When I start my computer I lost the option "Press the F2 or F12 key" to access the BIOS.

    Thanks for your help.

    My computer: Satellite L750, PSK2YA-0L0802S

OK if you are interested in the topic you can try with a facility for testing purposes, but if there are many different issues and problems, I think that you should install the recovery original image again and use your laptop with 'presets' again.

You can enter the BIOS settings?

In General, you can try to start the installation of USB if you press F12 on startup and choose USB as a boot device. It works for you?

    Hello

I just got a 700-414 desire, and there windows 10. It has a configuration partition mbr and I would like to change it to TPG to make use of secure boot.

Can someone help me? I know there are a few tools that will change on the fly without data loss, but I fear that it does not start after I do this.

    Thank you

    Hello

I tried to do the exact thing you want using a two third-party tools and details of the versions of the W10 and S8. The HD has been converted to GPT without data loss, but converted HD could not start.  At this point, do not want to spend more time on the effort I have so just install the operating system using the UEFI.  As a practice, I keep my data on the operating system boot drive.

    Hello

I think the bios error change setting means that you need to access the BIOS and should set the BIOS default settings.

Please to do this, save the settings and try to start!
