Unable to connect to vCenter Server 5.0 using the vSphere Client - unknown error.

I am trying to connect to vCenter using vSphere client (from different computers, including the server itself) and get this:

vSphere Client could not connect to "vCenter_Server_IP_Address".
A unknown connection error has occurred. (The request has failed because of a logon failure. (Unable to connect to the remote server))

I am able to connect to the host directly, but of course, can't do anything with it since the vCenter is "in da house".

There is no problem with it, not big changes and nothing indeed directly on the server vCenter (i.e. W2008r2x64) so, my confusion deepens. 5.1 ESXi

Any ideas what could have happened and how to fix it?

    Hello

I'm trying to configure VMware Lab home using the link below and I have reached a stage where I need to connect to vCenter Server using the vSphere client.

    http://boerlowie.WordPress.com/2011/12/13/building-the-ultimate-vSphere-lab-part-9-ESXi/

I installed the package of 5.5 full vCenter server using the simple installation option and it includes vCenter server, single sign - on, Webclient vSphere, vCenter server and vCenter Server inventory service. All the the latter is installed on a virtual machine that is running Windows server 2008 R2 guest OS.

Whenever I try to open a session on the vCenter Server uses the vSphere client, one of the following error is displayed.

    1. you do not have the permissions to connect to the server 'vCenter server IP address.

    2. cannot complete the connection incorrect username or password-, this error is visible when I do not specify domain\username domain user name and simply enter the user name.

For the details of the error, please see the screenshots - vSphere_client_1, vSphere_client_2 and vSphere_client_3.

As suggested in the link below, I tried to create an SPN and then set the SPN (Principal of Service name) and the UPN (User Principal name) in the Active Directory identity Source using the web of vSphere client (please see screenshot vSphere_Webclient_2)

However, none of the above-mentioned resolution has worked.

  • Unable to connect to esxi using the vsphere client

    Hello friends,

    I need a little help.

a 2 5.0 esxi host and a vcenter than VM.

My laboratory worked well for days, but all of a sudden do not know why I am not able to connect to ESXi hosts with vSphere Client.

Error: The request failed because the remote server has taken too long to respond.

Call "ServiceInstance.RetrieveContent" to "ServiceInstance' server '192.168.1.101' object failed.

Yes, I am able to connect to vCenter server, when it is connected to vCenter and open the console of the virtual computer, nothing shows up, it's a black screen, as if the virtual machine is turned off. It is with all the virtual machines on both hosts.

    1. I thought that it might have to do something with vCenter and I tried connecting to Host individually which I wasn't able to.

After completing a few KBs on vmware and some articles, I checked the status of the firewall on both hosts. (attached screenshot)

    8-7-2013 2-11-16 AM.png

Checked if my computer can talk to esxi host on port 80, 443, 902. all ports are accessible.

Disabled the Symantec endpoint protection and checked. no positive results.

Finally, I tried the ESXi web navigation browser host http://ESXi-IP-address which redirects me to HTTPS connection with Certificate error, when I continue with the cert error, loading of the URL guard and the host page doesn't appear as it should.

This questions are on both hosts. :-(

You guys can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

    Thank you.

    Finally things started working now.

The problem was with the configuration of the workstation's NETWORK adapter.

The link on the NETWORK adapter speed was set to Auto negotiate (default), but the speed was detected as 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps and MTU has been set at 9014 which I defined manually long back.

Things use to operate in this configuration that I have configured hosts with MTU 9000 and cisco SMB switch default Jumbo.

the LinkSpeed of 100 Mbps is bugging me, after changing to 1 Gbps (manual setting) the card NETWORK has deactivated, and it reminded me to switch!

So I put the LinkSpeed Auto negotiation, MTU 9014, stop the two hosts, restart the switch. restarted my computer.

Since it uses for things were in a normal state.

Even the question of the console (black screen) disappeared. :-)

  • Unable to connect to vCenter Server chargeback

    Hello!

We installed vmware chargeback of a virtual appliance, now we try to connect to a vCenter server.

SQL connection fails, we can connect using odbc or using sql server studio remotely connected using these creds.

But we get an error when connecting with the chargeback unit. I have attached the file.

Release notes, I see words about this message saying that if we get then the password is incorrect, but that's OK.

    How we thoubleshoot this question?

    Hello

It seems that you are using for the VCDB Windows authentication, which is not possible when you use Vitual machine. Please use "SQL server Authentication" and provide the database user name and password in the dialog box add vCenter server.

If you want to use Windows for VCDB authentication, you must use the windows version of the server of chargeback.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any additional problems.

    vSphere-4,1

There are few reasons for this. Please try the steps below.

#) Features in host ESX adds the host file on the machine where you have access to this.

    OR

#) Add the DNS entries respective of the ESX host on the DNS server.

VMware vCenter Server Version 4.1.0 Build 491557

VMware vSphere Client Version 4.1.0 Build 491557

I used vSphere Client to access a single ESXi host for some time.  No problem with the single host management.

It is my first installation of vCenter Server (on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 7601 Service Pack 1).

As Microsoft IIS Web server was already running on this host, I used alternative ports for tomcat services:

    80 > 8080

    443 > 446

    Web Services-> 8081

When I connect to localhost:446, I can open a vSphere Web Access session and see the following:

How to contact the ESXi host and view its inventory this server?

Then I tried using vSphere Client to administer the server vCenter Server, but cannot connect.  The error is:

"A communication error has occurred when sending data to the server. (The underlying connection was closed: an unexpected error occurred on a send.) »

It doesn't matter if I run the Client vSphere on the same host as the center of vSphere, or a remote host.

I tried to use the IP addresses and host names.  No difference.

I have disabled the firewall on the host vSphere Center.  No difference.

Both host ESXi and vCenter Server have valid license keys.

What should I do to get vSphere Client to connect to the server from vSphere?

    Hello

I change ports instead IIS as vCenter server, but if you use port 446 you specify port (446) thatcustom in vSphere client as well. In the field of connection for the vSphere client

How to contact the ESXi host and view its inventory this server?

After establishing the connection with vCenter server, you must create the object data center and add your ESXi autonomous server to vCenter server. After you will see ESXi inventory in vCenter server

  • Unable to connect wireless DNS server is not recognized.

My laptop won't connect wireless does not have the DNS server has never had a problem before

    Hi Roger,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the issue you are unable to connect wirelessly because there do not recognize the DNS server. The problem may be caused, if there is a miss match the IP address configuration. Then, I suggest you to try the steps below and see if it helps you to solve the problem.

    Method 1

Automated convenience store is a tool that can find and automatically fix problems with your computer. These utilities are not designed to solve all the problems, but they are useful to try because they can often save your time and efforts.

    Run the network troubleshooter utility:

    Method 2

If the problem persists, I suggest you to release and renew the IP address. For this you can see the steps below.

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK.

    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      enough ipconfig and press ENTER.

    4. Then type ipconfig / renew and press ENTER.

    5. Type Exit and press ENTER.

    Method 3

If the problem persists, try to reset the TCP/IP stack and see if it helps you to solve the problem. To reset TCP/IP, you can refer to the procedure described in the article mentioned below. If fixit does not help, try to follow the manual steps.

How to reset TCP/IP using the NetShell utility

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

I wonder what experience people is on the threshold for the maximum number of client connections simultaneous vSphere that can connect to a server vCenter Server to access computers virtual virtual guests, using VMware vSphere client without causing performance problems or the server crash.  The simultaneous client connections vSphere how your environments have been able to support?  Of course, there are many variables that are forward-looking statements outlining exact impossible, but illustrative, that's what I'm looking for.  In this case vCenter Server has 8 GB of RAM and 1 GB/s Ethernet.

For vSphere 4.0, the number of concurrent connections to VC is 20 and for vSphere 4.1 is 100.

  • Unable to increase drive vCenter Server 5.0 build 455964

    Friends:

I have a virtual machine with disk 3, 2 of them has the ability to increase space in gray. The last one is the only one that I can change. I am looking for snapshots in snapshot Manager, but the virtual machine has no snapshot. I created and deleted snapshots, consolidate them, without any fortune. I'm looking for some ideas for review in vCenter Server or another component in the equation.

    Best regards!

    Roberto

According to the newspaper, the virtual machine has 5 virtual disks (3 x IDE and 2xSCSI). Unfortunately the vSphere Client GUI does not increase the IDE drives (no idea why) and you must do it from the command line (vmkfstools - X) or convert (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1016192) SCSI drives. No matter what you do, make sure you have a backup in place up-to-date in case something does not work as expected.

But when I try to connect to an actual vm via MKS, I get an error MKS as ' unable to connect to the MKS: unable to connect to the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:902 server.»  The xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the ESX Server HOST and not the Server vCenter (which administers the host).   I have ports 80, 443, 902 and 903, on the firewall, open to point to the server vCenter Server.  When I'm on the LAN, I can do everything without a problem. Its only when I try to connect directly from the internet through our firewall I get the above error.

    Someone at - it suggestions?

    Andrej770,

vCenter Server transfers you to the ESX host hosting the virtual machine, and the remote console runs on port 902.

You want to go directly to the ESX host on port 902 through the firewall to connect to the Virtual Machine console.

You want to see the pages "Guide de Configuration ESX" 146 for more information.

  • vCenter Server 5.5 compatibility with vSphere 4 hypervisor

I recently installed vCenter Server 5.5.0.5201 (with a Standard license valid vCenter) and I am trying to add the hosts to vCenter data center. I can connect successfully to the host but vSphere displays the following error:

"The host is licensed with vSphere 4 hypervisor. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support vSphere 4 hypervisor. »

Now I found the slot compatibility matrix and there clearly shows that vCenter 5.5 is compatible with all the way back to version 4 for ESXi. I must be missing something, can someone please clarify the question.

I know that vSphere hypervisor and ESXi Server is essentially the same but vSphere hypervisor is the free version, so is there a difference that I know?

This happens because you are using a free license on the ESXi 4.1 key.

"The host is licensed with vSphere 4 hypervisor" means that it is a free ESXi. You will not be able to manage the free ESXi with vCenter.
