    Hey stevpw65,

It is not possible to rip DVD using Windows Media Player. You must use a program designed to legally to copy files from a DVD to a computer.

Unlike the DVD, you can rip a CD using the player. Information is available here.

    Extract music from a CD

Please use your favorite search engine and browse for a DVD ripper software which can be used for this purpose.

When you try to play a DVD on my PC using Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc.. I get an error that reads: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD drive decoder and video card protection. DVD playback requires a DVD decoder and the only versions
Vista that included in Home Premium and Ultimate.

Take a look at the following article:

I get "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD
because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection"(C00D1163)?

DVD decoders are available at the following link:

FWIW... before installing the software, it is always better to create a system restore point.

And... you can be able to play your DVDs with the free VLC Media Player:

A last possibility would be to install a codec Pack:

    Hi Barbara,

You can use the player to burn a mixture of songs from the library of the drive or your computer to an audio CD, after which you can play the CD in any standard CD player. Alternatively, you can burn files on CD and DVD data. It is not possible to burn the live streams, such as radio stations, on a CD or a DVD.

  • No reading DVD with Windows Media Player

    WMA crashed

I used to use Nero on my old computer. I built a new computer and bought Vista and liked the use of Nero I installed it on Vista. During the installation it windows warned me that there is perhaps a conflict if I installed it. I went a head with him and of course, there was and nero would not work. I tried to uninstall it and was able to complete the removal of the program, because it has a conflict and stops. At this stage the WMP always worked very well. Recently, I installed a DIVX player... not by choice... I wasn't thjought I DL update or something, not a media player and pay any attention to any. So I removed the player and now I can't watch a DVD in my media player more. He tells me that windows media player has stopped working. I send the reports to help set and have nothing in return as in to solve the problem

What are my options? Thank you!

    Hello casey_,

    Thank you for your response.

In addition to the Bindu response, you can also try to perform a restore of the system to an earlier point before the installation of the program, and then check the issue. For more information about the use of system restore, please see the link below: System Restore

If the problem persists, please relay the error message received when you try to play a DVD with Windows Media Player, and if the problem occurs when you try to play the DVD or single.
