    Hello Wyntr,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

Currently, the function of switching between audio output devices is carried out manually. To make the selection, you can click the sound icon in the taskbar, then click the button at the bottom of the volume control Mixer. In the properties of the volume, you can click on devices in the upper left corner and select the appropriate device to make it the default for applications open from then on.

  • Cannot open the default audio device: a device ID has been used that is out of range of your system. Sound will be disconnected.

I get the error in the title with a host Windows 7 x 64 Workstation 7.1.3 and an Ubuntu guest.

I did a sound material change on the host today (audio embedded used instead of the USB sound card), but sound works perfectly well on the host computer.

I had the same problem as well. I have a host 64-bit windows 7 and the quest of Ubuntu running on VMware Workstation 6.5.

After playing with the settings a bit, that's how I managed to do the work. In Ubuntu, open sound preferences:

In the Hardware tab, my profile was set to 'analog stereo Duplex. I changed it to "Analog stereo output" and everything has been resolved. I was able to connect the sound card!

  • In Win 7 can I configure multiple audio devices by default?

    I want to play:

All content of windows through my HDMI audio Media Center

    Everything iTunes through my headphones

There are 2 options in my list of default audio device, one for each above. I would like to either two of them always have or I would like to be able to set up so there is a specific default value for each program. Does anyone know how to do this in Win7?

For any help or suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Hi MattMinn,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers Community Forum site!

There is no option of two different applications simultaneously broadcast by a default program. You can try the same externally via a socket which can take in charge two devices at the same time.

    Hello

You will remember to do recent changes to the computer before the show?

I suggest you to download and install the latest driver audio realtek for Windows XP from the link and check if the problem occurs:

  • Select audio device Realtek as the in / out audio device

Whenever it starts, my ACER laptop displays the following message... «to enable the audio switch function, select the audio device Realtek as the audio in / out device.» At the same time, a box opens upward with three tabs, reading, recording and sound. A device high definition audio is defined as default as usual... Hello

Check if your default audio device is set to realtek.

    1. click on start, type Sound in the box to start the search.

    2. click on sound in the results of search at the top of the start menu.

    3. click on the tab reading notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is speakers. Make sure that the audio settings are configured as expected. Follow these steps:

    1. on the playback tab, select the playback device, click Properties, click the Advanced tab and make sure that the default Format is set to the value you expect. When you are finished, close this window to return to the previous window.

    2. on the playback tab, select the playback device, click on configure and make sure that the configurations are set correctly.
If the sound settings are well positioned, you are using speakers as the audio device and your speakers are already set as the default device, go to method 5 now.

    4. If it is set to realtek change for speakers as the default audio device and then click on set as default.

    5. click OK to save your settings and close the sound dialog box.

Once done with the above step restart your computer and check if you experience the same problem.

Let us know if that helps.

  • Windows does not recognize tv as audio device after it has been turned off and turned back on.

I have my computer hooked up to a HD TV with the HDMI cable.  The sound also pretended on television.  The HDMI cable is connected to my Radeon HD 6950.  I use Realtek HD Audio Manager with the ATI HMDI default Audio device.  All records are up-to-date.

When I put my TV off and leave the computer running, I go back and turn on the TV and the computer behaves as the TV is not plugged, but only for audio.  The video is still there.  In the audio playback window, I noticed that Windows would go to the optical audio device, even though there is nothing plugged into this Jack.  I disabled all other devices and left only the HDMI device, so it will not move on.  Now when I turn on the TV it is just like nothing is plugged in at all for the audio.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hello

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?

    2. which edition of Windows are you running?

Example: Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.

It could also be a possibility that a manual entry is required from your TV to the HDMI connection, please check your Menu\setting where the HDMI and PC connection is checked once it is connected to options to switch the Audio and TV screens.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to help solve the problem.

    To disable improvements audio speaker

    a. open sound by clicking on the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type soundand then click on sound.

    b. on the playback tab, click speakers, and then click Properties.

    c. click the enhancements tab and then select the check box turn off all the improvements .

If you do not see the enhancements tab in the speakers Properties dialog box, these features are not available for your speakers, and this procedure is not applicable to your computer.

If disabling audio enhancements solves the audio problem you are having, this indicates usually that your audio driver needs to be updated.

Reference:- why don't I hear audio when I connect my computer to a HDTV?

    I hope this helps.

  • WMP11 XP (11.05721.5280) do NOT use the audio device as the default

I put WMP to use the default device: -.

WMP\Tools\options\Devices\speakers\properties\sound playback\default live sound and also tried setting to refer directly to the sound card.

BUT WMP reads through the integrated sound card.

Other programs for example 2 WMplayer, Quicktime Player, and Cakewalk Home Studio all use properly the default playback device.

Read in the past THAT WMP has used the default device - stopped doing this a few months back

The default device is set to the sound card via ControlPanel\Sounds and Audio devices

Thank you, Meghmala for having responded to my message.

After validation, I found that WMP plays through the on-board sound. Other programs via the sound card.

I went through all combinations of card Onboard Sound and sound to the default playback device (read options\Devices\speakers\properties\sound ControlPanel\Sounds and peripheral Audio and WMP.

WMP always uses the device specified via its Outils\Options.

It wasn't the behavior that I noted in my post? fixed by restarting?

I noticed that WMP does not take into account default value specified in the Panel\Sounds control and peripheral Audioeven if control Panel\Sounds and Audio devices specifies "use only default devices"!

To sum up, I can now put the reading that I need.

This message can be now closed!

    Thank you.

  • No HDMI Audio, could not play the test tone, cannot change the default playback device

Hello, I have real trouble with my HP Pavilion dv6-2160us experience (with the i3 - 330 M, no dedicated graphics card) Windows 7-64 bit, SP1 PC and I would be happy to help.

I created a new thread because, despite the fact that many other people have experienced a problem similar to this and have posted what has worked for them, nothing has worked for me.

    The problem (s):

My main problem is that I can not any audio to play from my PC to my HDTV HDMI.

When I plug my HDMI cable on my PC and the TV, the TV is recognized in the playback devices, but nothing he can play.

When I try to test the TV in playback devices, I get an error "could not play the test tone.

In addition, I want to mention a few other odd behavior that I think can be a part of the main problem.

In playback devices, I can't change anything. I can't disable or enable a device, I can not set as default playback or communication devices, and I can't save changes to the properties of the device. Whenever I try to change something, as the default playback device, nothing happens, or the changes are immediately reversed.

    The Question:

How can I get audio to play through HDMI on my PC (is not a problem with the TV, my other machines HP audio playback over HDMI it is fine)?

    What I tried:

    I tried:

    • Change the default playback devices, which I am unable to do
    • The utilities of reading Audio de Windows 7 running in a clean boot state
    • Uninstall and reinstall the driver Intel(r) Audio display
    • Uninstallation and reinstallation of the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
    • Uninstall the IDT Audio PC program under programs and features
    • Disable the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

    Nothing has worked.

The drivers I have are the latest issued by HP

How can I get this to work? I would appreciate help.

I'm at the point where I'm willing to try solutions quite technically involved, so feel free to post those.

    Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

OK, I finally have the answer for that.

If you experience this problem even and you want to fix it, you'll need a PC running the same version of Windows 7 that your PC works lot of work but it works without problems, with regard to this point.

Here's what I did to solve the problem:

    1. Create a system restore point.
    2. Run regedit.exe as administrator.
    3. Go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices \Audio .
    4. Compare the permissions and attributes of ownership of this key and all subkeys to your work PC.
    5. Change all permissions and property attributes for interest on the defective PC keys as they are the same as those on the operation of the PC.
    6. Restart your faulty computer.

I hope this helps. It worked for me.

  • No audio, device drivers by default, NUTHIN!

I recently released image my computer and reinstalled XP (for cause of virus of course). I have ALL the updates, SP3, all. I have everything I need to go except the sound of course. In Device Manager, I have a small list of the? / ! pilots who need fixin', one of them being something called "Audio Device on High Definition Bus" Audio. I guess that's the device that is supposed to produce a sound. However, there is ANOTHER category called "sound, video and game controllers" that some sites have said should hold my camera, but it doesn't. It was just a bunch of generic names which do not mean _ such as "Legacy Audio Drivers. Before that I provided in my computer image, my audio device was called "SoundMax HD audio".

I downloaded different drivers for Microsoft Universal Audio HD 63 287 about whatever and Realtek blah blah stuff ' do stuff, but none of them works.

Please HELP! sound is half of the reason I use my computer.

YES! It turns out that the answer was right under my nose. I had downloaded a "Audio fix" Lenovo a couple of times, you sure it was the right answer. turns out that I was not to install it, just unzip the file, even if it SEEMED that I was installing it.

in any case, thank you very much for your help. It is good to hear all my music again!
