Uninstalling the MS Security Essentials program

I can't uninstall MS Security Essentials.  I said that I do not have sufficient privileges, and I am logged on as administrator.  How can I fix?

Hi Keith,

What version of Microsoft Security Essentials is installed on your computer?

Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if that helps.

How to manually uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0.1963 if you cannot uninstall it using Add / Remove programs

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry

Note: If the problem persists, I suggest you to report the same issue in Microsoft Security Essentials, since we have a dedicated support for this.

  • Is it possible to stop or interrupt the Microsoft Security Essentials instead of uninstall / reinstall whenever there is a problem?

I'm on my computer Toshiba Satellite phone, Windows Vista Home Premium x 86 32-bit Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 1.80 gh 2 GB RAM with Service Pack 2, when using windows firewall regular and Malwarebytes anti-malware.

I am trying to get into Windows Defender to remove the stuff start menu because my computer is running way to slow down. About 6 months ago I had a problem with Microsoft Security Essentials by turning and stay Orange (at risk) and say it wasn't scanning, but it has been. At the time, I was not aware that Windows Defender would be put off. Now, it seems that it is disabled automatically. There no way to disable MSE, if I try to change my start up programs in Defender, or even when I am trying to download programs, I always end up having to uninstall MSE, download the program and then reinstall MSE. It takes a long time and really makes me want to go back to AVG or even a different program. Help and faq are unclear and seem to leave a lot of information on. I left on the 'default' settings, for when something is happening, but I'm not quite sure this is the correct setting.

I need instructions in plain language, and it's really hard to find. Since I left my computer unprotected for download or try to change things, I'm afraid that something got. I just went through a clean installation due a person with remote access in my system and I lost a lot of pictures, records, etc., I'm always worried about security now and don't know if I should stay with MSE or not.  I used the care a before Scan and he had difficulty my registry keys, that having people tell me I shouldn't have let microsoft fix my computer. (this was before the clean install). It's just confused and contradictory and not enough information. Windows Defender has a 'stop', does MSE?

This is probably not the right area, but I specifically ensured that when I signed into hotmail the box 'Save password' was unchecked. I am registered on another forum, then signing in this one, he had my password registered and logged in me full?  Same thing with contacts - my old msn contacts have a way for this 'hacker' enter my computer through MSN messenger, he gave her the permission above my permission admin, so I couldn't get out. Although I asked that the old account closed a bunch of time - I guess there is still there waiting for like a year? Now I have a new email in hotmail, the clean computer, and the dang thing starts my old top loading details is on his own... - Anyway, my main concern is can I pause or stop the MSE? Can I use the Scan a care after I had no protection? and is there a place explaining MSE in regular normal verbiage with more information then what is on the help and information and download page?

    Thanks for your time,

    Nanette

I ended up deleting many other programs with it, to make sure I had no more problems until I installed a new version of your website...

Once I had my computer cleaned, I downloaded the new MS program on the MS site and can not turn...

I know there is a version where you can set things like the time and date that the program do daily or weekly checks, but my version said only that it is having a problem... Of course I need help...

Security Center sees no antivirus, windows firewall is enabled (but in fact webroots Firewall works), says and shows that the antispyware windows Defender (previously, he showed have spy sweeper from webroot and windows defender). My question is how can I get the windows Security Center recognize the webroot program? THX

  • Security Center does not recognize the Windows Security Essentials

Windows Security Essentials does not seem to register with Security Center.  Security Center reports that no Virus protection is enabled.

    1. I installed Windows XP 32 - bit WGA, activated the product and updated to SP3.

2 security Center starts giving Windows security alerts for Virus protection, because none has been installed.

    3. I installed McAffee VirusScan.

4 security Center stopped giving Windows security alerts for Virus protection.

    5. I uninstalled McAffee VirusScan.

6 security Center has resumed giving Windows security alerts for protection against the viruses as before.

    7. I installed Windows Windows Security Essentials and rebooted.

    8. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Windows Security Essentials with no joy.

Windows Security Essentials installation did not prevent Windows security alerts.  No Windows Security Essentials registry entry will appear in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Security Center and monitoring.  If Microsoft consider essential security to be an antivirus product, then how to Windows Security Essentials register with Security Center?

I understand that this is an information and alert issue only.  I understand that Windows Security Essentials works actually ok.  I am particularly concerned by the reports.  It conditions my deployment of Windows Home Server.  Deactivation of surveillance or the alert is not a solution, just a poor quality work around.

In a previous thread, the author of this question even abandoned and has not requested additional assistance.  An explanation was given (relevant for Windows 7), but no solution has been offered.  Windows XP has not been addressed.   http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-security/the-Security-Center-has-not-recorded-an-anti-virus/15ae2383-7ced-4850-A863-f7eb8cc90ee5

I had the same problem for a while now (I'm on xp) and have searched the Internet for a solution but found nothing at the moment.

  • I get the error code 0 x 800700422 when I try to start the microsoft security essentials. Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

I use windows vista. I can't start - MSE-do my check for viruses and spyware.

To decode 0 x 80070422. X 0 means that it is a hexadecimal number, 8 , error, the first 7 means it an error of windows and the rest of the number, 422, is the Windows error.

To search for the error message we need to decimal format. Start the Calculator (Start - All Programs - Accessories - calculator) and choose the menu display - scientific, then the menu display - Hex. Enter 422 Menu display - decimal. He'll tell 1058.

Start an command prompt (Start - All Programs - Accessories - command prompt) and type

    net helpmsg 1058

    and it will say

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices is associated to him.

See if the service associated with your program is set to autostart.

Click on Start - Control Panel (and select Classic view in the left pane), select Administrative Tools , then Services. Find the service that is part of your program (there could be several). Right click - Properties - and change Startup to Automatic. Then click Start.

  • set up of IE9 beta now the microsoft security essentials does not start

After you have configured the security to explore 9 beta essintials program says that somethings not allowing this procedure which would cause this im running windows 7 home premiumEmail removed privacy

    My personal opinion...
Any Beta program is expected to have bugs. That is why the label "beta".
If you are a computer user accomplished and ready to test a beta program, continue to do.
If you are just a normal daily computer user, you can stick to IE8 at the moment until the SP is set to release 'officially' the product to the general public.

For your information only, you can uninstall IE9. The system automatically returns itself back to IE8.
To uninstall IE9: go to programs and features > left column, install the update > scroll to find Windows Internet Explrer 9 > right click > uninstall.
Realizing that you use Win7. The above procedure should work for Win7 machine.
