Unit migration to AD new forest

Hi all

I have a few basic questions about planning to migrate the 4.04 unit to a new forest. We have 7 unity servers that will need to be migrated. The great Cisco Unity deployment and Solutions Guide quite generically talks about this in chapter 15: migration and upgrades. In the section migration unity between different Active Directory forests, he mentions the unit needing to be "moved" to a different AD forest, but aren't really in the details than others to be aware of issues that may be introduced by the migration and a few other things.

A few questions I have are:

1. This requires a new installation of the unit in the new forest, and then use DiRT to restore? Seeing that we intend to import all users accounts with all the same alias that I guess that should be ok if this is the procedure to follow. As each site gets migrated local Exchange and domain controllers will be dismantled and mailboxes mailbox exported and deleted so I'll have to cut more immediately. We run UM.

2. what happens if the OU structure is different in the new forest when you perform a restoration of dirt? I wondered beforehand if the structure must be the same as it is in the current forest and if will not be their problems and these problems can be fixed by reconfiguring the unit or subscribers would have to be deleted then recreated.

3. is there a basic document anywhere that explains how to migrate one forest to another unit, or is it just install a new server of the unit in the new forest and restoration with dirt for each current site/server?

4. (a little unrelated) the AD schema updates on the work of the conference for AD 2003 4.04 as well? We will migrate to a Server Windows 2003 forest will now be Win2k on the servers of the unit themselves.

My guess is that the servers will have to be fresh installed and configured in the new forest and then run DiRT to restore assuming all the aliases are the same they should be.

Thanks in advance for advice and suggestions and links that you may have on this topic. ;)

The reconfiguration guide and update this covers in detail:

Yes - you must do a fresh install, perform a backup of dirt from your old system and restore it to your new installation. Versions must match.

the OU structure is not serious - searches in the announcement of the upper part of the forest down to a corresponding DirectoryID, the RDN and the alias (mail nickname) - this process is covered in the help file of dirt if you want more details.

Yes - the updated schema is the same for 2003.
