Unit Patches

People,

We have a server of the unit that we do not apply patches to in over a year, now I've seen given the task to bring him to the speed with tasks. Could someone give me a good summart of what I need to do, as I'm worried about the latest microsoft security updates, where can I get them.

Unity doc said I should get the following on the microsoft site and install:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4

Microsoft MSDE 2000 Service Pack 4

Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2

What should I do, how do I know if I running MSDE or SQL on the server of the unit and SP level am I on?

Thank you

Take a look on the following document. It will tell you how to determine the current level of MS and MSDE/SQL. Also, make sure the MS level on your matches of Server Exchange the SP of the Exchange Tools on the server unit.

I hope this helps. If so, please indicate the position.

I would really like someone to be able to help me with this. I bought Windows 8 Pro to my laptop from my wife and also 3 other copies for my father-brother machines... and now, I had to disable the Windows updates for each of them because of this!
All our computers are HP, maybe that has something to do with it? I do not know. Or maybe it had something to do with the fact that machines did not originally come with pre-installed Win8 (as I said above, I bought the discs retail - 5 of them).
I really enjoy using Windows 8 and won't go down to Win7 after all my work and spent $$$.
PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

    Update:

With the help of my friend and colleague some at CreativX.net, Greg (gsw953), which has tested this situation on a machine of his, we think we have found what was causing the problem:
All my machines are patched (I used UltraUXThemePatcher to patch mine) to run custom themes, 3 rd-party... Of course, the patcher (all of them, not just the one I use) modifies several system files (for example the shell32.dll file and a few others), what makes your system able to run themes not digitally signed by Microsoft. This seems to be the rub.
The way I solved this Aalders - UN-patch my system. Most patchers have an uninstall feature that uninstalls the patcher and adds by default, system files not patches in your system from backups that patch is when you have it installed. Once I did, I got all the updates, restarted, then re-patched my system and everything was fine.
I have the feeling that this same routine can must be made (UN-patch, get updates, re-patch) whenever MS publishes major updates of Win8... It is prudent to disable automatic updates. Better to have Windows Update notifies you and lets you decide if-or-not to install... and also it's a good idea to READ THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE UPDATES to see what they are - maybe even search them individually on the ' Net before you allow it to install.
MS has a long history of updates that fub a system patched... it's as if they don't want look us cool themes. they want that we have all the same, default * that they provide only. Shame on them.
Once again, in the end, the fix: Nations United-PATCH your sytem... get updates... and then re-PATCH. Worked for me. Touch wood...
  • BlackBerry Q10 State patch for BB10 (especially Q10 in the United Kingdom)

Safety seems to be the only point of sale of the Blackberry brand. Over this past year, I've been a proud Blackberry handset user, however, for the vulnrability FREAK, I noticed that the patch took several months to reach me, and since then, I've read the Wikipedia article asserting that the cariers (Canada and USA) North America provide the last set of patches (several months).

Currently I am on 10.3.1.1779 and have been on it since many months. Any idea when I got (to the United Kingdom) can expect to be on what Wikipedia considers the latest version (10.3.2.2339)?

Hello and welcome to the community!

As you read, it's the companies that control the release (via the official methods) of packages of OS to their end-users... so is the logical place to ask your question, I think with them. Indeed, the 10.3.1 branch had I think 4 releases more given that the one you are on, and there were 10 in the 10.3.2 branch... so your OS is indeed quite old now (and, if reports here should be used as an indicator, this version was also very problematic indeed).

But you also involved information it is important to keep separate. 10.3.1.1779 is a "software version", while 10.3.2.2339 is a value of BONE. They are different things, and depending on who you are chatting with or what tools you use, it is important to work with the right pair. Via the toolsets official (LINK, OTA updates, Update Web site), SR it what is used. But, for the discussions here as well as unofficial toolsets (ADF Knowyou), the real value of the OS is what means the most. Reference:

The key on getting updates, is that someone else is controlling what is offered by any official means... usually it's the carrier. But it's really a moot point anyway... If the official methods offer something new, there is no way to force them to do so. The only way to get around the controls is to switch to non-official methods and take control over exactly what OS is installed on your device.

Official methods, which will be controlled as to what exact OS versions are available:

Non-official methods, which are cleaner and allow you to choose a version of the OS that maybe your carrier (or anyone they control your offers) delays in approval:

Of course, before you start this, you want a good backup link, a manual copy of the memory of your device to your PC and complete documentation of your configuration (identification information of account, adding applications, configurations, etc.). Sometimes, restoring a backup returns unit corruption even, must be eliminated and reconfiguration from scratch can solve that.

Be aware of the risks of 10.3.2 however... There are two things to worry about. First of all, be 100% sure that you know your BBID identifiers... If you do not, you may make your useless device to anyone, including yourself. Second, once you move to 10.3.2, you cannot fall back to 10.3.1 or earlier, by any medium (for example, even the unofficial AutoLoaders can not overcome this restriction anti-secours).

    Good luck!

  • Units in the Stimulus Data Logger profile editor

I have an active Veristand application that uses the data logger built in Stimulus profile editor. Recording data works fine but it does not display the channel units. This becomes a big problem with our client.

I suggested to change the channel names so that they have units in them. Before we go on changing over 100 names of channel and dealing with the associated benefits of doing this, I would like to know if there is a way to get the units of the string to display in the data logger.

Before, it was suggested, I already use the recording custom device of embedded data and I hammered him to the gills.

Has anyone concerned with that? Don't know a good workaround solution?

    Thank you!

We have a patch for this NI VeriStand 2011 SP1 if you have access to this version. The problem is that VeriStand using incorrect property name for the property units. Channels are registered with a property named 'Units', then it should be "unit_string" so that the other products like the tiara to interpret it correctly.

You can apply an INI token to change this behavior in 2011 sp1. Add the token following in the file below.

    Win7:
    C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\NI 2011\NI VeriStand.ini VeriStand

    WinXP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\NI VeriStand 2011\NI VeriStand.ini

    [NOR VeriStand]
    LogUnitsPropertyName = unit_string

  • Need help, get permission to edit files. Windows 7 won't let me uninstall or patch my game world of warcraft.

I have problems with obtaining of permission to change my files, in particular my games like world of warcraft since the upgrade to windows 7.  The game needs to be patched and for some reason, I was not allowed to delete/modify these files.  I tried to uninstall the game and reinstall, but windows will not yet give me permission to uninstall the game. says I need permission to another user. I am the Admin so I don't know what to do. Here are two mistakes that I see.

The "Warcraft\Launcher.exe C:\Users\Public\Games\World" file could not be read. If the problem persists, you may be able to solve by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game. If you are unable to solve this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (CompareVersion)

you need permission to perform this action
you need robby-PC/Robby permission to make changes to this file

Well to be honest, it looks like somebody was playing with the security settings on the Public folder.  And that Robby is now the only one allowed the user to modify the file.

I would say a click right on the issue of World of Warcraft or games, going to properties, then security, clicking on edit, then adding "everyone" user to it and him giving total control.  Make sure there is no box to Deny checked either to other users.

Uninstalling it would be unnecessarily laborious given the amount of patches that you would then go and download it again. Paul Smith - MVP for Windows desktop experience... Unfortunately, Halo 2 does support Windows Vista and more.  Windows XP is not supported.  There may be 3 party hacks that can make it work, but they are not taken in charge and potentially dangerous.

  • The unit and CallManager can coreside?

    Hi Pros,

For lab purposes, can the unit and CallManager be placed on the same server?

    Thank you

    Mike

    HI -.

There may be other reasons to not install CallManager and unity on the same server, but here is one that I thought - CallManager uses a subset of the Windows operating system. Some services are disabled by the OS image, which is NOT compatible with that required by the unit. Even though this is a laboratory environment, if possible, I would dedicate two servers. For a long time, we used a server DL320 as our CCM test. I have a DL380G1 for a unit test that has mirrored drives - pretty well because I don't want to rebuild the unit just to do a patch test or upgrade of test and everything goes south - just return the mirrored disks and start on the original. I thought the two onbox would cause problems with the integration of the TAPI ports, but I couldn't find anything to justify this thought.

A special device, can I know if the patch has been applied?

How many systems you have tender with?

    1. If the unit has been updated with DST 2007 changes, they don't need it now.

    2. all versions of operating system since then have included the updated DST information.

As a matter of fact, I don't remember any of this messages spent spring/March when the DST has changed.

  • Cisco ACS 5.3 patch 8 Volume OPT

    Hello

We currently have 12 ACS unit with one of them being a dedicated newspaper collector. We have authentication of 802. 1 x configured for network and Wi - Fi ports. We are authenticating desktop, laptops, smart phones, etc. on our network.

The problem we have is the volume of the OPT exceeding 30% volume size recommended by Cisco TAC after a few months. We have recently added more resources on our network (fusion). We are now on the size of 30% in about 1 month.

In the past, we called Cisco TAC when we had problems with performance Log Collector. It's time was also authenticate clients 802.1 x. We have added a new device and is a dedicated Log Collector. They would check the volume of the OPT and to find that it was about 70% use the size. They launch the Console Root patch and delete the DB and then re-create. We did about 2 times before starting to monitor the size of the volume OPT.

This last time, we ran in the 30% the size of volume more rapid then we had previously. I got a Cisco TAC volume of the OPT to delete and recreate it.

Cisco TAC recommended that we reduce the amount of logs that are sent to the collector of the newspaper. We are currently investigating this option.

    The questions I have is:

What percentage of size for the volume of the OPT should be concerned until it starts impacting on the performance of the Log Collector?

Is there another thing we can do to reduce the amount of logs that are sent to the Log Collector?

We have data purge set to 30 days. We are complete and incremental database backups. We also have local send logs to a Syslog server.

We test them make changes to send only AAA Audit logs and statistics system of Log Collector.

    Thank you

In the distributed configuration, its recommended to set up a secondary server dedicated as a collector of newspaper. However you have a large deployment, so I'm sure that authentication rate would be too high causing Dungeon size view-basic data on the increase.

In order to avoid running out of disk space, we need to manage. This means identifying the files that are created and written by processes on the system, allocate a budget to space them as if the files remain in their budget all the services can be supported without interruption, then define and implement the necessary facilities so that these files in their budget.

There are two mechanisms to reduce this size and prevent it from exceeding the maximum limit.

    1. air scan: this mechanism the data will be purged based on the retention period of data configured or arriving at the upper limit of the database.  In Patch 6 new provided option to demand purging as well.

    2. compress: this mechanism frees up unused space in the database without deleting all records. Before the compress option can only be performed manually.  GBA 5.3 Patch 6 there are improvements so it will automatically work every day at a preset time, when specific criteria are met.

What percentage of size for the volume of the OPT should be concerned until it starts impacting on the performance of the Log Collector?

The TAC recommendations are right. You will be able to use all the ACS function if / opt is less than 30%.

Is there another thing we can do to reduce the amount of logs that are sent to the Log Collector?

It seems that you use most of the features/mechanisms to have / low opt. However, you may be interested to read more about scrub data and data compression improvements http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.4/release/notes/acs_54_rn.html
