Unknown account

Trying to solve a problem of sharing between my desktop (Windows 7 64-bit) and my laptop (8 64-bit Windows), I note that in the 'Properties' and 'Security' on all my individual documents it is shown a strange account listed as "'S-1-5-21-3031751903-4163529469-2704011054-1001 unknown account". " Does anyone know what it is and what and how I have to do something?

You select each key and look at the Profileimagepath in the key.

It will tell you what the user is.

    Hello

The unknown user account can be a corrupt user profile. As there is no data to this account, it is safe to remove it from your administrator account.

To delete the user account, follow the steps from the link below:

  • Impossible to remove an unknown account, get the error 'cannot delete the unknown account because this object inherits permissions from its parent.

I have several programs that when I go to security there is an unknown account and when I try to delete unknown account I get this message that you cannot delete the Unknown(S-1...) account because this object inherits from its parent perssions. To delete the Unknown(S-1...) account, you must prevent this object from inheriting permissions. Turn off the option for the inheritance of permissions and then try to delete the Unknown(S-1...) account again. I tried the edit and advance features in respect of security without success. Why have I not control over security permissions?

Found a solution to this problem.

Go to the folder parent of the folder that contains the files with this unknown account number:
    1. right click on the PARENT folder, and then click Properties.
    2. on the Security tab, go to the advanced options (bottom window)
    3. in the new window, click the button change the permissions in the bottom.
    4. Select the Group (NOT AUTHENTICATED, just of users USERS) users
    5. check "replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable of this object.
    6. click on the OK button or apply and done, fixed number.

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem, for me it happened after reinstallation of win 7 on the same machine and keep my images on another partition, so it was spared by the new facility, so the old user account was always on the file permissions.

    Hello pansy2006,

You will need to go in the registry to display the list of profiles.
Click the Start button. In the start search box, type: Regedit.
    Then highlight:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\SID >
In the left pane, find the S-1-5-21... number. In the right pane, it will display the name of the profile.
What are usually users who have been deleted or the program they were associated is no longer on the computer.

If you can find the exact match and the user is no longer needed, you can delete the user sid.  Make sure that you have a backup before you delete all the registry information.

Note: Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk...

I have an unknown account and an unknown contact. How can I go to find out who they belong to?

You can use the ProfileList registry to identify the SIDS of the users.

To access the registry, go to a command to run.
Press the Windows and R. Then type: regedit.

    1. go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

    2. under the ProfileList key, you will see the SID. By selecting each individually, you can look at the entry and see what user name is associated with this particular SID. It will be in the right pane.

Note: The SID to a combination of profiles is reserved for the profiles on the local computer based. If a user is referring to a 'server' extension .usr or .man profile in the User Manager for domains that they will not be in this area of the registry to associate the username in SID.

If the account is not used, you can delete the registry. Don't forget to back up the registry before making any changes, as they will be permanent.

Let us know if that helps.

  • Exchange 2010 - Bounce back of unknown accounts

    Hello

I'm running exchange 2010 and I had a 'Catchall' facility mailbox so all email * address email is removed from the privacy * could get stuck in this mailbox using a policy even if the account did not exist. I went to remove the box to 'catch all' letters that he was no longer necessary but if someone outside had to send "* address email is removed from the privacy *" or spelled a bad name of users the external user will not receive a bounce back by telling them that the address is not valid.

    Any ideas?

  • Account ghost or unknown shows in safe mode in Windows XP machine.

    Original title: Phantom account.

Hello everyone, I hope that someone may be able to provide an answer to a problem, that I detected. I have a "ghost" or "ACCOUNT UNKNOWN" account username on my XP Home SP2 that I found when I went into safe mode and checked the properties-> tab security for one of my programs. This seems to be present in most of the software, but not all.

The unknown user account is S-1-5-32-547 - can anyone tell me what it is or how it got there? Or, is there a need to worry?

When I actually open via control panel user accounts, it is not listed. Only, I fell on it all by checking the properties on the software in safe mode.

    1. you have access to the files and folders on the Windows partition when you work inside VMWare?

If the security on the files/folders tab will then a user/group account that has the username inside VMware listed list. This could be the reason that the user name is created. Unknown user can be a part of the Vmware software.

However, I suggest that you post your question to the VMware community to see if it is the cause of the unknown account:

We created an unknown accout on my laptop Windows 7 did it probably a malware or some kind of virus. This unknown account took all permissions including the special permission. In this way, he blocked my access to a lot of my documents and multimedia files. This unknown account does not appear in the list of user accounts. Thus, it cannot be deleted or modified/restricted. Hi CED,.

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to know that you are facing a problem of unknown account. It would be useful that you can answer these questions to help you further.

    1. How do you know that it is an unknown account? You receive messages or error codes?

    2. where are the documents and multimedia files stored?

    3. have you made a recent software or hardware changes to the system?

If you are referring to an unknown account with a SID string, then try these steps and check if it helps.

    a. go to the folderwhere you saw this string SID.

    b. right-click and select Properties. Click the Security tab.

    c. If it is there, then click on the Edit button, then click the Remove button.

If you are told that you cannot delete this account because it is to be inherited, and then close the dialog boxes and set up a folder in the tree and repeat the procedure. Keep this up until you can remove the ""unknown account " SID in the permissions dialog box."

You can also check the suggestions provided by Marilyn O, moderator of the Forum on July 9, 2012 and check if it helps.

How to remove an unknown account on the Security tab in windows 7?

Important: The above link contains steps to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

  • Unknown user account

We had problems with our computer, and I was on the phone with Microsoft for 2 hours on 04/06/2013.  She said that if someone had a "password" protect her not access to resolve this type of problem and if I continued to have problems that his supervisor will have to solve the problem.  I saw a user account pop up from time to time and have no idea why or how is added.  The user name was "Unknown account" when I started typing and is now "S-1-5-21-1707336200-2697870300-4147613902-1001" with "special permission".

When I tried to copy and paste, this is what has been copied.

    \\localhost\C$\@GMT-2013.06.23-11.47.18\Users\Gar-n-Deb

This all started because even if I was not at home, my husband got a phone call from someone who told him that they were Microsoft and was concerned about the volume of activity, they have seen and could solve the problem, if it was allowed access to the computer and buy software.  He said this looks suspicious and the guy said, I ask only to help you.  Thus, he had access.  The guy had problems with getting their approval on the credit card, but he had already acceded to our computer.  When I got there, I heard my husband say: "well, my wife is home now and I told him look and he hung-up.  We have our phone CASE which is our local supplier and had lost the connection cable, our desktop icons were hidden and I have no idea what else has happened.  Even if one of the owners I have used to work to help me with IT, I'm not at all a computer scientist.  So I called Microsoft and was informed I thought, that Microsoft does not call.

After my time 2 call with Microsoft, I was monitoring our computer and attempts to change what I thought others prevents access to our computer.  I first noticed that the security of all the icons changed.  I deleted all the icons and then added them back.  After noticing changes more, I then removed remote access.  I don't know how I saw it, but I discovered there where there are 3 home groups.   Now this morning, each file was consulted and specified above user has special permission for everything.

Maybe I just need to call Microsoft again, but I wanted to at least get this documented.  Please notify.

When you give full access by a total stranger on your PC your husband fell for a popular scam. The scammer could easily have installed keystroke logging software. If it was my machine then I would perform a destructive factory restore, if it isn't because I have no desire for an outsider to look over my shoulder when I do my stuff from Internet banking or order via the Internet.
