    Hello

This computer is on a domain network?

The hosts file is a read-only file, hidden system. It is just a text file that you can manipulate with WordPad, Notepad or any text moeditor. Before difying the hosts file, make a copy of the current in case you need to restore the original.

Seems to have cleared the error message.  So far so good.

However, now a Windows Update does not work.  Security Center Windows were told to go to control panel > system and use the Automatic Updates tab.  But, if I go to control panel > system, the Automatic Updates tab does not appear.

I also went to the control panel > Services.  Tried to start the automatic updates service.  Received this error message: could not start the service automatic updates on Local computer.  Error 126: The specified module is not found.

Please help me to get the automatic updates to run.  Thank you!

    Hi Roger,

    Two questions:

    • What is the version of your R910 iDRAC6?
    • If you run the following command, then what is the result you get?

    WinRM e cimv2/root/dcim/DCIM_LifecycleJob - u: - p: - r: https: / //wsman:443 - SkipCNCheck - SkipCACheck - SkipRevocationCheck - auth: base - encoding: utf-8

    • Is it possible to restart your server? If so, can you check if CSIOR is enabled on the server and are you able to see running system services?

You can get information about CSIOR on this link:

  • Add/update a powercli script - independent host license key

Does anyone know how to add/update a license key with powercli script.

I can do OK with LicenseAssignmentManager when connected to vcenter server, but I can't do when assigning a free license key to a stand-alone host as the ServiceInstance.Content.LicenseManager.LicenseAssignmentManager is $null.   (esx5-623860)

    See you soon,.

    Matt.

    Try something like this

    $licMgr = get-view-Id "LicenseManager-ha-license-manager.

    $licMgr.UpdateLicense ("00000-00000-00000-00000-00000", $null)

It will assign a trial license.

If you have a valid license key, replace the document "00000-00000-00000-00000-00000" with your key.

  • After Update 2, Esxi 5.0 host cannot see storage

I have a HP DL380 g-8 server that was running ESXi 5.0. He had 6 virtual machines running on it for 8 months with no problems. Today I applied the update 2 for ESXi 5.0 and it says the update successfully applied. After the reboot, the server could not detect any storage. When connecting with VSphere client it says "the ESXi host has no persistent storage." Virtual machines are listed as "unknown, 1 unknown unknown 2," etc.

All storage is local. There are four disks are attached to a P420 controller card. When I click on "Storage adapters" in vsphere client, he mentions the card controller as "Patsburg 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller '. I tried a new analysis and it did not work.

I think here, but I have an out of date firmware. I just found this page HP for the P420 with a VIB released a few weeks ago update:

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en & cc = us & prodTypeId = 18964 & prodSeriesId = 5193414 & swItem = MTX-96dc068234d34bceba2e2e1139 & prodNameId = 5193409 & swEnvOID = 4115 & swLang = 8 & taskId = 135 & mode = 4 & idx = 1

This link describes how to install the firmware, but this particular ESXi host is far away and I can't seem to him physically. I can connect using SSH. So my question is (having never used SCP or updated firmware on ESXi): is it possible to completely remotely via SSH, and if so, how?

If there are any other suggestions, I'm open to them. No matter what to get storage online.

    Thank you!

You should be able to run this command in an SSH session.  As long as SSH is enabled, you should be able to SCP the file above.  WinSCP is a client of SCP Inuit free, for Windows, that should work just fine.

  • ESXi 3.5 Update 4 2 esxi: Error Host Update Utility

    Hello world

I have a free esxi 3.5 server running that I want to spend to esxi 4 u2 (recorded vsphere foundation).

I want to use the host update utility to perform this task, but I get the folowwing error when the package is checked:

The upgrade package validation failed, α upgrade metadata reading failure; the incorrect input string format.

    I use the utility version 4.0.0 build 258672 with the updated package upgrade - to - esxi3.5 - 4.0_update02 - 261974.zip.

I downloaded several times in the event of corruption of file without success.

    Any help welcome!

Check this post http://communities.vmware.com/thread/265635 . It could be the same problem with the language settings.

    Kind regards.

  • Update of ESX 3.5 hosts cluster?

I assigned a cluster with two ESX hosts. VMware, trying to ride on the apprenticeship training. It's time for updates and I want to manually apply to each ESX, not at the level of the cluster. So, I have to disable HA and DRS before put the ESX #1 in maintenance mode and run there to fix it?

    I use the Update Manager.

I don't have to break the cluster, I do?

What is the best practice for this task?

I guess you use VUM since you used the term remedy.  If so, and you have a fully automated installation DRS, decontaminate the cluster.  The first host ESX will migrate all customers to host another host, enter maintenance mode, get patched, reboot and exit maintenance mode.  The process will be the same for the second host.

  • Update Manager fails to analyze host to upgrade.

I just recently updated Virtual Server 4.0 Update 1. My next step is to update my servers ESX 3.5 to 4.0 Update 1. After going through the steps and the creation of a reference database that I was unable to analyze the host in order to get it updated. I received the following error message.

VMware Vcenter Update Manager had an unknown faliure. Responsible for check and tab events and logs for more details.

    Got this error?

    Thank you

Now, I have the solution. You can find it in http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_vum_40u1_admin_guide.pdf on page 45:

-vCenter Server and Server Update Manager are installed on the same host and their database instances are on

    two different hosts.

If you separate the VirtualCenter 2 databases and the UpdateManger to different SQL servers.

Without having to disassemble, I get the following error message:

Setup has found that several schemes exist in the database, please remove the additional schemas before you continue.

If you can not ignore this message, you should really separate the VirtualCenter DB of the UpdateManager-DB.

    What's new with 1 updated in ESX V4.0, it wasn't a problem.

  • Update Manager Does'nt Get Host updates

OK, so pretty much what the title says.  I have Update Manager running on VC 2.5 and when I run an update so he can get the new patches it downloads no patches of the host.  I don't know why, because some of the guests are still Build 110268 so its not like any of my guests are the most recent updates.

    Thanks in advance!

There is a problem with your base line... There should be a default base lines.  Are all absent VMware?

  • get updates from vm 10 odd hosts running free esxi

    Hello

I have 10 strange hosts that are taking place in free esxi

    They have same passwd root...

can anyone suggest a script that can pull the info vm from them?

If they're in vcenter alone its easy, but in my case its little diff here

Make sure that you are in multiple mode (Set-PowerCLIConfiguration), and then connect (Connect-VIServer) to each node ESXi.

A cmdlet, such as the use of Get-VM, now, if you do not use the Server parameter, will run you on all connected nodes of ESXi.

You can check the ESXi nodes connected by displaying the content of $global: defaultviservers

  • Update Manager upgrade of the ESXi host that he is running in a virtual machine does

That is the question.  Here is some information.  We were a completely virtualized environment for several years.  2 guests ESXi collocated 5.5 to different data centers connected of course by a VPN site-to site.  The VPN itself is provided by VMs and vCenter runs in a VM to one of the sites as Update Manager is to proceed with installing it. If the vCenter and/or VPN VMs are down, we have a very cool backup method to gain access to and manage ESXi and its console.   Some of you who read the rest of the present will be tempted to suggest to architecting our environment differently, but we are very pleased with the way it is thank you very much :-)  Appreciate all the answers but really just responded to this specific question.

The reason why we want to Update Manager is really just to be able to upgrade easily ESXi in the future without enter in the console and the execution of orders, etc.  I realize the documentation and blogs on this topic that ESXi may need to go into maintenance mode and stop the virtual machines running on it (not a cluster if no migration) how ESXi is lose connection to the Update Manager (if the remote host) or a stop Update Manager (if the local host).  So the question is, is that the process of updating managed by Update Manager an atomic operation at that crucial moment or a sequence of operations depend on continuous connectivity and control of Update Manager.  Ddoes ESXi, then perform the upgrade and restart regardless - that would be great - or he'll just stand there in maintenance mode to learn more about disconnected now / stop Manager update pending.

    Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Please, tell me if I understand you:

Ask yourself if you can upgrade the host running Update Manager VM? And you cannot migrate the virtual to another host machine because there is no cluster in place and no shared storage?

If your answer is YES to both questions, I can tell you that you cannot use Update Manager, since you must put your host in Maintenance Mode and therefore you will need to stop all virtual machines running, including the VM Manager Update.

  • Manager Update on the VMware host updated

I have two VMware hosts with vCenterServer running in a virtual machine on a host.  Manager of update is loaded and it works very well.

I would like to be updated (install patches) the host who has VCenterServer on this.  Technical support said that he could not tell me that it was OK to make a staging of the update with UpdateManager on the host.  My plan was to push updates on, then use vSphere client to manually restart the host that is home to the VCenterServer.  It makes sense that it would work, but the tech told me to create a second vCenterServer on the other host.  It's a lot of work.

Anyone has successfully done what I was planning to do?  I look at UpdateManager patch the first host, it seems that Update Manager pushes updates to the host, and then goes into maintenance mode and restarts.  Why not push updates, then restart manually?

Any other suggestions or ways to do from the console?

You can update the hosts through command-line if you stop vcenter.

  • vCenter Server and Manager on the same virtual machine and on the same host ESXi update that they manage

    Hi all

I have a question to which I did not respond.

I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?

Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?

    Thanks in advance.

It will not work.  You will need at least two hosts.  This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host.  From there, you can use VUM.  Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.

See below for patching a standalone host
