Update BIOS on the Qosmio F30 - ACPI problem

I've updated the BIOS on my Toshiba Qosmio F30 - 140 and I have issues with the management of ACPI.

When I try to run Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10, I see constantly typed characters - "^ [[B ', which cancel all important processes.
When I add "acpi = off" option to GRUB the problem seems not apear, but I do not have access to important features (like changing the brightness of the display). How to solve this problem?

Hi Kojot89,
first: "never touch a running system", but you already know...

with this new bios, you have enabled some features of the motherboard...
Try this:
-turn off acpi in the bios mode, if possible
-patch your kernel to use the acpi features
- or disable the use of the features of acpi by boot-cheats

as you say the problem doesn't exist when starting with "acpi = off".
display brightness and the cooling of the processor are the main features of acpi to save energy, if your kernel can not handle
check_acpi_ignore = 1 might be a way to make it work

way the easiest way is to reinstall the system...

    Dear lovers of Qosmio,

Since I have updated Bios version 3.60 - winning, I'm not able to access my BIOS. I turn on my laptop while pressing ESC I get SYSTEM CHECK. Press [F1] to enter the bios. I press F1 , nothing happens, I pressed it several times the same thing. It's not like my Qsomio f30 - 112 made problems or anything else I want to be able to access my bios, who knows.

Can you please help. by the way I tried 100 times > _

Dear Hamid is very strange and at the same time stupid situation. I don't really know what the problem is here. Computers laptop Toshiba usually have 2 different BIOS versions. One is defined as Toshiba BIOS and secondly is Phoenix BIOS. Your Qosmio definitely has this version of the Toshiba BIOS and you can enter the BIOS settings using the keys F1 ESC.

If possible try to call the service authorized in your country. If you can not enter the BIOS settings you need of some explanation expertise. If you will get some info useful please share it with us.

I installed it on my Qosmio X 300 and now it says I have 2.99 GB instead of 3 GB.
    My lights not working.
    My remote is not working.

    So please help me guys

    Hello

    > How to remove a Bios Update?
I think you want to Flash the BIOS to the original version.

You can't do this because you n t have the first version of BIOS.
In addition, there is a version of the traditional BIOS update that is not available on the European driver Toshiba page.
So your last option would be the Toshiba ASP in your country!
You will need to contact the guys for the first version of BIOS.

Just a hint; never change a running system ;)

  • Questions about the Qosmio F30-141 and OS

    Hello!
I intend to get laptop Qosmio F30-141, but after purchase I want to replace an operational system on Linux Fedora Core, and with she would like to know, if properly supported by the given operating system this model (supported wi - fi particularly interested), or recommend another model?

    Thank you

The problem could be that the Toshiba does not support Linux drivers and you will have to search in internet and 3 third-party Web sites compatible and supported drivers!
Besides computers laptop Toshiba supports several tools and utilities that enables the features of the laptop.
I imagine that you will not be able to use these features as FN keys for example

  • Satellite A500: update BIOS V1.50 is fan noise problem reappears

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 with fan noise problem.
It has been partially resolved the upgrade of BIOS from v1.20 to v1.30, according to this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=0&TSTART=0

Yesterday I updated the BIOS v1.50, and the sound of the fan returned.
I do not recommend this upgrade if you have had the problem of fan noise.

I have downgrade BIOS v1.30 and fan noise problem is solved again.
I know that people have problems to get the downgrade to BIOS, so I describe the process in this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=50577&TSTART=0

Thanks mate for sharing this with us

But perhaps you could use the v1.5 BIOS and could reduce or reduce the activity of module cooling in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be interesting to check it out

In any case thank you for this info

  • Recovery after that hibernation is too long on the Qosmio F30

    Hello

I use my Qosmio F30 laptop about 3 years and still have the same problem. Recovery of Windows after hibernation, it takes about 1 to 1.3 minutes long. Of course it is not too much, but I see how quickly rescind my other two books, with a lower and more good configuration cheap than the Qosmio.

Their recovery time is only 15 to 25 seconds. Where the problem may be?

I noticed that when the recovery starts, it will quickly about 2-3 seconds, and HDD LED at the moment is bright lighting. But then the progress freezes and continues slowly, and the HARD Drive LED lights more weak, it flashes just with a very fast rate. I think perhaps it means that problems on the HARD drive, maybe it works in mode "snail" at this time there and goes to normal work only after complete recovery?

Please help, I can't solve this problem on my own.

PS: Sorry for the bad English, it is not my mother tongue.

I checked that my pre-installed Vista Satellite P200 and the resumption after hibernation is about 55 seconds. Several applications are open. 1 minute is theoretically OK.
Your other laptops are not known to me and I can't say anything about it.

    Using Vista too?
You close all running applications before using hibernation mode?

  • Installation of a second disk in the Qosmio F30

    Hi guys and girls :)

I just bought the secondary hard drive for my Qosmio F30, but when I opened the drive Bay, I found that I have a problem with the installation of the drive on my hands.

First of all, I tried to put the new drive in the Bay and press down lightly to connect with power and data connectors sata and it works perfectly, but it is impossible to move the laptop around since the disc is a bit loose in the Bay and I'm worried a little for my data and the drive itself.

Then, I opened the first Bay and noticed that original Toshiba drive is kept in place with the help of some mount thin metal plate, which is set on the disk and the Bay with a few screws.

I checked the Web for any revision of the F30 model that might have pictures of the Bay secondary in his State and found a few. See the photos of the same thing Im. Check this one out, it clearly shows the high Bay (sata connectors are right and not visible):
    http://www.Ferra.ru/images/179/179520.jpg

Note a small screw hole on the left side of the Bay, clearly intended to fix the mounting plate similar with hdd secondary on the laptop. The plate which is, unfortunately, not included with my computer.

Did someone here had the same problem and if so, how to solve?

    Hello

As you have already said the HARD drive need a special framework that maintains the 2.5 HARD drive in the Bay.
This frame and the screws required, you can order directly from the authorized service provider who is responsible for your country.

I recommend talking to these guys here and explain what you need.

    Best regards

    Hi mate,

where´s so the problem? Just put new batteries in your machine and begin to control your computer with the remote control. Your portable computer with an infrared port that communicates with the remote and usually such device is automatically recognized by windows.

May I ask what operating system do you use? XP or Vista?

    Welcome them

  • Updating BIOS for Acer Aspire 3000 / battery problems

So I had a couple of Acer Aspire 3000 who were not working and got one to work...

But it seems that I am having some problems when the battery is in it - and otherwise fine without him.
Excessively long Shut Downs that go to the continuous reboots / Touchpad problems, gel, etc.

Says the battery until it goes to @ 7-8%.  Then the battery does not charge.

When the power adapter is disconnected - the battery is charge?

Given that these laptops have been sitting around for a couple / few years... and have been given to me... I do not deny the possibility that the battery is not good. And there was only 1 battery using 2 laptops.

After that she has charged at 7-8% - I unplugged it the adapter - and it ran for @ 20 min.  and said: '1 HR 30 min remaining"until she was cut.

I also tried tried the - remove battery unplug adapter and hold the power button for 2 min method - then installed battery and adapter - but nothing helped...

(On a side - note, which is probably not related - my wifi doesn't seem to be working - even though it appears, it does nothing wrong in. Device Manager - and runs a diagnosis does not help...) I know there are wireless networks but none does not appear! Broadcom 802. 11 g)

In any case - I saw a post on a different site-say an UPDATE of the BIOS could possibly solve the problem of battery - (wifi may be too)...

Given that I've NEVER DONE an UPDATE to BIOS; I'll ask NICELY, please walk me but this... with as little as ACKRONYNS and GEEK TALK as Possible (respectfully).  I had heard of this sort of thing - to download the update of the Bios... and I think it can be put on a Falsh player - but is a ZIP and should she be EXTACTED - which I'm not too big? Then "Select (something)? and then maybe restart... So now, I'm willing to give it a try - with some help and input.  THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE!  a link for the download and the proper BIOS UPDATE would be a big departure... - I guesss that goes without saying.

So, here are some features of the information system: (I hope there enough, but please let me know if you need more)

3 to 32 of the latest BIOS availabel

    http://global-download.Acer.com/GDFiles/BIOS/BIOS/BIOS_3A32.zip?acerid=633643243476341057&STEP1=note...

for flash, unzip the file and then read the statement in the WinPhlash SOP XP 2005.pdf file update.

  • Update BIOS killed the headphone

First off, this is the problem - I have a vostro V131, i5-2430, running win7 x 64. Earlier today, I flashed the BIOS A05 to A06 (downloaded from the dell support page). Everything works well, and my laptop speakers work fine as well, so I'm not alerted to any trouble. A little after that, I noticed that my headphones do not work when plugged in. Autour experimentation, I find that regular speakers etc do not work as well. So: his fate of the portable speakers very well, but all plugged into the audio Jack does not work. With what anyone plugged into the Jack, the sound continues to play as usual by the speakers. I'm worried that I may have bonked a pane on the mobo.

The headset, I hear some slight hiss/static on the right - nothing on the left.

I am not sure, it could be something else, but since the update of the BIOS was the only major change for the system in awhile, I'm inclined to think what's caused the rupture. I also searched on the ' nets, tried all the usual driver solutions - still nothing. Speaking of drivers, the audio driver is a Conexant HD SmartAudio - (the driver listed for my label service on Support Dell's driver Conexant Audio CX20671). In addition, the v131 has a single audio for the two speaker/microphone jack.

Dell does not allow me to Flash my BIOS A05 - he says "don't recommend flashing to the older version" or something like that, then kicked out of the process. I also tried to run this or that his diagnosis which is pretty useless, its just continues to play computer speakers no matter what happens. If the screenshots any additional info would be useful, I will respond quickly with her!

Also just for that throw out there, on my machine of warranty has expired, so support a no.

Help please? Thank you very much.

    Hi faceplantcat,

Thank you for answering my question.

In fact, I found that the recently updated for Windows 8.1 had solved the problem.

I have nothing but updated Windows and reboot the laptop. After that, I was pleased to realize that the problem has been resolved. That make sure that the problem was not material.

I don't really know what date of the update, but it's mid-September 2014.

I hope that this post will help others who fall into the same problem as us.

    See you soon!
