  • Why update firefox and got a 'free' bing search bar and two software malicious adware?

After an automatic update - no, I do not download no matter what new version of any dangerous place - I found that I had the Bing search bar-which I think I've turned it off, not sure if - and two malware/adware problems. First was rvzr - a.akamaihd which arises a new tab when clicking first on a website, then I found that I had offerswizard adding banners - blocked most of them - and the creation of hiperlinks with mini pop ups when passed above it with the mouse - sorry if my English is not clear. I tried AVG free and there wasn't any warning. Finally, ad-block and rgiht, click on the arrow to search bing seems to fix the problem, however, offerswizard must be uninstalled manually - lightning enhance program, I think that - after a google search.
The main question is... can I trust firefox download/upgrade to automatic update?

Thank you all for your answers. I tried to mark it as resolved, but I doubt that I did.

First I tried in windows / removal of unwanted software programs. Installed an adblocker for FF
Then I downloaded the adware 3.8 removal tool and the problem is almost solved. Still a few details could be improved, but I can live with that.

I think someone took advantage of the installation of FF and it makes any other malware on my computer.

    Thank you once again.

    Thank you

    Hello Jay,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

I have a few questions about your question:

    (a) not you get an error when you try to download?

    (b) where you are trying to download music and video files from?

    Method 1:

You can try the system to the boot and they try to download the files. Any program background may interfere with the download. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

The steps to perform a clean boot are given below:

Step 1: Open the System Configuration utility

    1. click on Start, click run, type msconfigand click OK.

    2. the System Configuration utility dialog box appears.

Step 2: Configure selective startup options

    1. in the System Configuration utility dialog box, click the general tab, and then click Selective startup.

    2. Click to clear the Process SYSTEM. INI file check.

    3. Click to clear the process to WIN. INI file check.

    4. Click to clear the Load Startup items check box. Check The Load System Services and to use Original BOOT. INI are checked.

    5. click on the Services tab.

    6. Click to select the hide all Microsoft Services check box.

    7. click on disable alland then click OK.

    8. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer

Once you have set the system boot, you can try to download the files and check if you get the same problem or not.

For more information about the clean boot, follow the below given link:

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

When you have finished downloading, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. click on Startand then click run.

    2. type msconfigand click OK.
The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.

    3. click on the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services, and then click OK.

    4. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

    Method 2:

Alternatively, you can try to reset the TCP/IP settings.

Note This section is intended for computer savvy users. If you are not comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, ask for help or contact Support.

The reset command is available in the context of the NetShell utility IP. Follow these steps to use the reset command to reset TCP/IP manually:

    1. to open a command prompt, click Start , and then click run. Copy and paste (or type) that follows the command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:

    cmd

    2. at the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command and then press ENTER:

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note If you do not specify a path of the directory for the log file, use the following command:

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    3. restart the computer.

First, you download the Fixit from the given link and run it, if that does not work then try to do it manually.

  • I received a "popup" to update Firefox, it was ligit?

I received this "popup" who said that I had to click to update Firefox, because "I am at risk." I didn't proceed/click because I thought that the updates are performed automatically. Should I have clicked on this "popup"?

If you get a pop-up message asking to put plugins or Firefox updated or anti-malware analysis then this message probably is a scam and you should never respond to such reporting to avoid being infected by malware.

    • Don't update Firefox via "> about" or by downloading and installing Firefox from Mozilla and server never using a popup or a link on a web page.
    • Plugins should be updated only through the plugin itself, or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

  • I auto-updated on, are the "Please update firefox" windows pop up I make me sent to various websites a kind of fraud?

Every so often, I get redirected to a page asking me to "Please update firefox. The word "firefox" is present in the address of the site, but I'm suspicious, because I have auto update and it says: I'm updating. Are these popups annoying actually Firefox asking me to update, or that they are someone else, trying to make me download malware, spyware or advertising under the guise of a fraudulent Firefox update?

You should never respond to such a request on the web pages to be updated because it is likely to infect you with malware.

Don't update Firefox via "> about" or by downloading Firefox from the official Mozilla servers.

    • Uninstall your current version of Firefox.
    • Do not remove the data of a personal nature when you uninstall the current version.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • Firefox Download Manager problems

The default in Firefox Download Manager began to show strange behavior today: no matter what file I try to download (in the default \download folder or in a folder chosen by me) is actually downloaded by the browser, but the file download status bar always a message "unknown time remaining" while being entirely green (https://www.dropbox.com/s/n891ya38ifm83c3/Cattura%20di%20schermata%20%284%29.png?dl=0).

The real problem is when I download .torrent files that are downloaded the torrent client need to start (torrent client that does not start because for firefox, is never finished downloading .torrent).

I tried to disable the antivirus (bitdefender), but the problem persisted. Chrome downloads work fine (as with active antivirus).

It's the b9 32.0 and it has been fixed and will be in the build 32.0 then, probably the RC1 build 32.0 if normally such a fix would be a beta version as 32.0b10. The release is Tuesday next so little time. From topic: config you can try to change the empty value of browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL in the meantime.

  • Since the update Firefox 6.0, some websites do not load correctly. I suspect it has to do with the Java being disabled because of the compatability modules. When I try to go to Tools/Add-ons, I get the message "Loading" for several minutes without chang

Update Firefox 6.0 is useless to me because many websites I visit are not displayed properly, I guess because the Java modules are disabled because of incompatibility. They appear correctly in Internet Explorer.

In addition, the add-on from Trend Micro is not compatible, which leaves me with a positive feeling.

When I try to check to see if these modules can be updated, the menu item Tools/Addons just goes to a page with "loading" and stays there for several minutes without change until I close it.

I would like to know the procedure to regularize this version of Firefox to my previous version that worked.

Firefox 5.0/5.0.1/4.0/4.0.1 and earlier 3.6.20 all contain questions of security and stability that will not be corrected. You put your system at risk by using any version of Firefox that 6.0 or 3.6.20. Any person who displays a link to other versions is to be irresponsible, in my opinion.

    Java

If the incompatible extensions in Add-ons > Extensions are Java Console, you have no need them unless your doing Java development. Most of the users have not yet installed, but Java will install Java Console with each update. You can delete them manually:

The only thing that affects the functioning of the sites/Java applets on the web is the plugin (Add-ons - > Plugins) "Java (TM) Platform SE (version)". Do not forget that it is enabled and that you have not all extensions which affect/block "scripts".

    Trend Micro

You must contact Trend Micro or go to the forums on their website to inquire about their plans to update the add-ons/toolbars they install in Firefox.

Problem with the display of the Add-ons Manager

The Add-ons Manager gets in a loop of loading due to the recent update of Firefox 6 and servers being overloaded because users and update process are looking for updates to the add-on. If you stay away from the "Get Add-ons" selection on the left of the screen of the add-on Manager, you should have no problem with that. This situation is expected to resolve when the overload of Firefox 6 update is complete. I do not always use this "Get Add-ons" option, instead, I go to the website of modules and the search for what I want from there: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=clone & cat = all & x = 0 & y = 0

  • Download Manager stops when I turn off Firefox

I have tried twice now; It didn't used to be like that. I have a current download. When I disable the Firefox, the download ends, too. My version is Firefox 24. How can I keep the download? Thanks for your help.

The default is to pause a download and resume the download automatically the next time.

You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the topic: config page.

That will make Firefox asks for confirmation if you want to cancel the download when you close Firefox.

    See:

  • I'm not able to update firefox on my mac 10.7.5. I am also able to download the latest version.

I get a notice telling her there are updates available, but whenever I try to update, it breaks down. The box showing the update just runs and runs, but never finished. What happened several times. I have Firefox 9.0.1 and he said: I am currently on the channel of update release. I don't know what that means.

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Firefox Download Manager reacts unexpectedly.

I can't download the files correctly using the default Firefox Download Manager. The affected extensions are:

     1. Download Status
     2. Download Statusbar
     3. DownThemAll (although since this doesn't interfere with the default, I don't see what this might have to do. Included for completeness).

    Now to the problem:
Firefox displays the weird behavior every time as downloading a file:

     1. The download completes, and it keeps scanning the file with an antivirus for indefinite periods (it never ended so far) even with tiny text files.
     2. During this period of antivirus checking, if I download another file, the old one gets magically deleted.

I'll disable add-ons relevant and post back the results.

See "Antivirus disable in Firefox preferences - Windows."

Try to set this pref to false on the topic: config page.
