Update Signature IPS S511 for Security Manager

Hello!

Anyone tried to use up-to-date signature IPS S511 for Cisco Security Manager?

I downloaded the IPS-CS-MGR-sig-S511-req-E4.zip file and checked md5 somm. The amount calculated was as specified on the cisco.com site. But it is impossible to use the zip file.

Unzip the following shows:

[email protected] / * /: / tmp/u > unzip-l IPS-CS-MGR-sig-S511-req-E4.zip

unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of the IPS-CS-MGR-sig-S511-req-E4.zip or

WinZip is an error too.

had the file IPS-CS-MGR-sig-S511-req-E4.zip be removed as with 8,0000 3427 MARCH upgrade?

Kind regards

This issue has been addressed and CSM should be able to retrieve and deploy S511 successfully.

  • Update of the modules for security issues ESX service console

Today, I was asked a question on the vervsion of OpenSSH used on the service console for our environment vSphere 4.0. Apparently, there is a vulnerability in OpenSSH 5.6/7 with a certificate which has been corrected in version 5.8. My response to the security team has been we are the 4.3.p2 and as a result, this issue does not concern us. So the following questions then becomes why you are not in the latest version?

I'm curious to know if someone has already discussed with VMware on these types of security issues where the components used by RHEL, like OpenSSH, are vulnerable. What was their response to attempts to update this kind of things? I guess some of the answers would not be supported, you'll break, if you patch it's no guarantee your fix will not get downgraded, etc..

I'm looking for is a solid answer that explains why we do not have that kind of stuff to ESX, only when VMware provides the fix. I could contact the support, but I thought her first check and see what others have met.

    Thank you

    Hello.

I think that all the reasons you mentioned (not supported, you're going to break, if you patch it's no guarantee your fix will not get downgraded, etc.) are pretty much true.  The ESX 4.1 Patch Management Guide stated in the FAQ section:

When a rpm on my ESX host has an equivalent Linux, can I use the Linux RPM to upgrade my system?
N ° VMware recommends that you update your host ESX 4.1 with RPM provided by VMware.

An answer I could use would be to take a step back to look at the bigger picture.  Is a SSH, which should be secluded/protected to some extent in a first time, have a vulnerability more risky than having an ESX host unstable/not supported with X number of VMS running on it.

    Good luck!

  • IPS Signature update occurs, IPS Vesion: 7.0000 E4

    Hi team,

Recently we started to notice that the automatic update IPS signature is not the case, then we download the signature and update manually, even

    Current version of IPS: 7.1 (7) E4

    Last Signature, we tried: 922.0,.

We are able to ping the IP Address of the Cisco server: 72.163.4.161, in the accompaniment of the last Signature of 7.0000 E4 version note is not included, we face the problem because of this?

Please ask your expert advice on this subject,

    Thank you

    Vishnu

You must have IPS 7.1 (11) E4 or E4 5,0000 or later in order to update since the beginning of this year when Cisco spent the SHA2 certificates.

    Reference: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/field-notices/640/fn64080.html

If you use an old IPS Manager Express (IME), you will also need to upgrade for full management.

    Hello!
Thanks for posting in the HP support forum!

8.1 Microsoft Windows (although very good and big update ) is still in BETA (testing) phase and is not officially supported.

Windows has features upgrade analysis and that it has detected that HP ProtectTools are not (yet) compatible with the new operating system (new update) - still in test.

Note that this OS is still in beta and may contain bugs. In addition, he brings a few changes that any other 3rd party suppliers must take into account and it will take a while until the program is compatible.

I recommend - if you want to test the new operating system, install fresh on another computer to test (processing Edition), not a production machine. Otherwise, for your laptops of business - use only the final versions of the software (such as Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8).

Let me know if I can help you further!

  • Get a Smartnet contract also gives you updated signature IDS/IPS?

One of my clients is looking into getting an ASA5510 with module AIP - SSM. I realize that with IDS/IPS systems, it is * essential * to keep files up-to-date signatures. Buying me the Smartnet contract for the bundle gives updates signature files, or is there another package that I need to buy?

I see references to the "Cisco Services for IPS", but this seems to be mainly for routers/IOS firewall/IDS packages.

There is not a Smartnet contract for the ASA/AIP-SSM bundle.

The only contract SmartNET SSM packages with the CSC - SSM and not the AIP - SSM.

When buying a bundle ASA/AIP-SSM, you'll need to buy a package maintenance contract. Package maintenance contracts are Cisco Service for the IPS markets and include the support of signature for the AIP - SSM and the software and hardware in support of ASA and AIP - SSM (software and hardware support, is what it is normally part of SmartNET).

Packages you will need to purchase a maintenance contract Service Cisco IPS using one of the formats following part numbers:

    CON-SUw-ASxAyKz

The 'w' will be 1,2,3 or 4 depending on the level of service.

The 'x' will be either 1 for the 5510, 2 for the 5520 or 4 for the 5540.

    'Y' will be 10 for the AIP-SSM-10 or 20 for the AIP-SSM-20.

The z will be 8 or 9 depending on the level of encryption.

    Thus, for example:

    CON-SU2-AS2A20K9 - would be 8 X 5 X 4 support for the ASA 5520 bundled with the AIP-SSM-20 with the top encryption.

NOTE: There is also SP contracts for purchase by service providers who follow a slightly different format.

There are a few users who have purchased the ASA and the AIP - SSM separately.

When purcahsed separately you would need to purchase a contract SmartNET for the ASA and a separate Department of Cisco for IPS for the AIP - SSM maintenance contract.

Maintenane AIP - SSM contract will be in the following format:

    CON-SUw-ASIPyK9

The 'w' will be 1,2,3 or 4 depending on the level of service.

    'Y' will be 10 for the AIP-SSM-10 or 20 for the AIP-SSM-20.

    Thus, for example:

    CON-SU2-ASIP20K9 would be 8 X 5 X 4 support for the AIP-SSM-20.

What you find is that buying a separate SmartNET for the ASA and Service Cisco IPS for the AIP - SSM will be more expensive than buying a single Cisco IPS's Service to the ASA/AIP-SSM bundle. This is because there is a discount when buying by the beam.

  • IPS Manager Express or Cisco Security Manager?

    Hi all

We think buy the license for the 5512 IPS - that of above (IPS Manager Express or Cisco Security Manager) is the right tool to read about management purposes? Or I can be selected? If I can choose either, which guy are you advocating?

    See you soon!

How many systems do you have? If the number is high, the CSM is the way to go. Manage many systems (and keep them in sync with the same political) with IDM and IME is a nightmare. But if it is a single system, the EMI is the right tool for you. It works very well for the follow-up (up to 10 devices) and can also manage them (individually, it is not so easy for more then another system). And it's free.

  • Site updated signature Cisco down?

I just noticed that I was not doing my daily updates since Sunday.  I get the following error:

    Automatic download of work report:

    No file available for download.

Error: Unable to communicate with the location service for recovering files available.

    Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

This seems to be an intermittent problem, becomes more visible today (don't know if it took place before today). If you need emergency a signature update file, for now (as a solution), you can manually download the file here:

    http://www.Cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ipsmc-ips5-sigup

And place it in the CSCOpx\MDC\ips\updates directory on your system (Cisco Security Manager) CSM.

If you have time, if you could let us know what www.cisco.com decides on your CSM system. ? This can help to confirm/track down the source of the problem. You should be able to do this from a command prompt (cmd.exe) on the CSM system using the nslookup utility. Example:

    C:\nslookup www.cisco.com
