Update thinks I have a XP - not Vista!

Windows Update think I have an XP operating system.  My system is Vista Home Premium!

I checked the event logs (because all sorts of things have been going badly recently--from January) and I'm just alarmed by all the "x"and"!"s ".  I think that something was wrong in January and set to automatic update maintains updated my computer like a XP, which is at the origin of the problems more.

What could have happened and how can I fix?

Hi ChristinaVarga,

1. how confirm you that proposed updates are for Windows XP?
See the Windows updates are installed: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/See-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

Step 1: We recommend that you restore Windows Updates settings and check the result. To do this, follow these steps.
1. visit the following Web site, click Microsoft fix it and save it to the desktop: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
2. open the downloaded file and follow the instructions in the wizard to run correctly.
3 restart the computer for changes to take effect.

Step 2: Look for updates and see if the good updates are available for your computer.
1. open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programs and then click Windows Update.
2. in the left pane, click search for updates, and then wait while Windows searches the latest updates for your computer.
3. If updates are found, click install updates.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Install the Windows updates: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Install-Windows-updates

Try the steps and post back with the results, so that we can help you further.

Kind regards
Syed
