Update Win7 Home Premium 32-bit to Win7 Home Premium 64-bit

I just bought a Thinkpad X 201 comes preinstalled with Win7 Home Premium 32 - bit installed and I prefer to run the 64-bit version. Is it possible that I can get the DVD (s) necessary economically and the current product on my laptop key will validate the 64-bit version? I understand that this will require a clean install, but as MS normally provides both 32-bit and 64-bit win7 version with it games standard OEM hoped that Lenovo could provide me DVD (s) you need to little or no costs (delivery?).

Hi DrMike9 and welcome to the Lenovo user community!

You can do it! See this support page:

I hope this helps!

  • Cannot update Win7 HP64 or download from any microsoft Portal

Help! I'm completely unable to update Win7 Home Premium 64, or downloading any content linked to or received by any portal Microsoft.

Using Windows Update I got 80072EE2 error code. After searching all the forums I have found the only proposed solution was disable third-party firewalls and try again. I completely turned off all firewalls and antivirus, including Microsoft Defender software. It made no difference. I can't update Windows, Xbox Live, Windows Live or receive content from any of these. Also could not activate Win7 online.

The only other thing I can think is that I am using a connection Mobile Broadband (Vodafone Vodem - Huawei NZ) running Vodafone Mobile Connect v9.2.1.6545) this could be a part of the problem? Never had any problems with XP.

    Can anyone help?

    SOLVED!

Found this solution on... another forum. (sorry)

Enter [netsh], then [winhttp] in the command line so that the screen looks like this later.

Now enter the command [import source proxy = IE]. This will import the Internet Explorer proxy settings, which means either a direct access to the Internet without a proxy if no server is configured or the proxy server used to connect to the Internet.

If the problem was a proxy server, this should solve problems connecting to Windows Update. WinHTTP may also be used to define a specific proxy server by using the [proxy set address] command. A reboot may be required before changes are taken into account (or kill the explorer.exe process and reload).

Fortunately Windows updates as I type. Value, bit late, then 108 mb.

    Thanks for your help though!

  • Update HP Pavilion dv6700 32-bit to 64-bit

    Hello

I have a laptop HP Pavilion dv6700 currently runing 32 bit of the system. Serial number - dv6880ee.

I would like to know if I can update my laptop from 32 bit to 64 bit, to buy memory for 6 or 8 GB of ram (if possible) and update my video card so that it will work faster and be compatible with games and higher video resolutions.

Thanks a lot in advance, really would appreciate answers. !!

    Hello:

Yes, you can install an operating system 64-bit on your laptop (Vista or W7).

Yes, you can install 2 x 4 GB DDR2 (5300 or 6400) memory but it will cost you more than $200 for a pair of chips of 4 GB, and you could probably buy a refurbished laptop, which is better than yours for less than $200.

No, you can't move the graphics.  The GPU is soldered to the motherboard (there are no "video card").

You can read that this related thread concerning the upgrade of memory.

  • How to solve the problem with Windows Update on Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1; Module Windows install encounter error 126, impossible to run/scannow sfs or TrustedInstaller. Help, please

    Hello

First of all, thank you in advance for any advice for any help, you can offer.

A week ago I noticed that Windows Update had a backlog of updates (30-40) as I had it value updates but let me choose whether to install them. As I tried to install, I noticed download election for hours but no visible progress in the taskbar and only a few updates installed on restart. Try to check the updates of similar results. I tried a number of solutions suggested here as a tool for troubleshooting Windows Update, but it made that seem to clear my list of updates to uninstall and make sure Windows Update has been under the impression that I had never checked the updates, apparently a worsening of the problem like today no update appeared and I encountered error 8007000D.

I've tried other options like Windows system update readiness tool and tried to run the sfc/scannow System File Checker, but what who would not (cannot start service repair) I grew more and more worried. On recommendation from other forums, I tried also to start TrustedInstaller in command prompt, which does not. Unfortunately, I had run a Disk Defrag and clean-up recently which had been deleted and (unbeknownst to me) my last restore point. The root of the problem seems to be the Windows Modules Installer, which does not start when you are prompted in Services (error 126), something wrong with the registry may. So reluctantly, I tried to perform a repair installation using a downloaded iso, I burned onto a DVD (insured was also Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit SP1). However, even if it doesn't seem to work, it is constantly check for installation updates (unless this is supposed to last several hours?) or if I opt not not to check, it pass the compatibility check and then fail in the second stage (collection of files, settings, and programs). I tried several times, once in offline mode with my disabled (Norton) antivirus and once in clean boot mode.

I don't know what other options I have. I would like to avoid a clean as much as possible installation, because my computer (HP laptop) still seems to operate normally (for the moment) outside the impossibility to install Windows updates (via Windows Update or directly from Microsoft, it seems), but I think it would just leave vulnerable more and more over time. Has anyone else had similar problems and has found a way to solve? I'm not a computer expert so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If installation still remains non-compliant, turn the system off, wait 10 minutes. Start it again and choose the option on the Boot Manager to restore the installation for Windows Vista, try the following steps below:

1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
    4. check your hard disk for errors:
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

In addition, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your system and provide a report telling you if your PC can run Windows 7, and if there is no compatibility problems with your hardware or programs.
