Update Windows Vista stuck at 0%

Whenever I update manually or system automatically triggers the update of Windows, it remains stuck at 0% even after 24 hours. It shows that 40 updates are available and even update yourself (as in 39-40 updates...) Addition of new updates) but when I choose to download a few stays at 0% download 0 KB.

It was a month back work any fine or I tried to uninstall everything I've updated / installed during the month. Also when I try manually update any application Windows (by microsoft related to the Windows operating system) he moved as well. For example if I choose to manually install IE8 stuck to "Installation of the basic elements.

How can I get rid of this problem? Esomething else is working well, browsing, downloading, speed.

I use Windows VISTA Business on a Sony Vaio CS-36

Dear Samhrutha G,.

Thank you for your response. However, I understood the question. I had to uninstall Microsoft Security Essential to put everything to normal.
Now everything works fine.
Thank you for your prompt update.
Kind regards

    Hmm... it's strange?  :|

The ACPI from Toshiba x 64 compatible driver certainly means a 64-bit version!

I put t know why Vista driver update notification indicates a 64-bit to a 32 bit OS driver, but usually the 64-bit driver should not be compatible with the 32 bit OS.

    Thanks in advance.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. (No, Symantec Support never say this.) See if the following solves your problems:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of the 2010 version of your Norton application, using your product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8 test cycle.

NB: Your Norton application can disable Windows Defender by default.

    Hi royfos,

Do you have a code error message when you try to run the system restore?

Check if you can get into safe mode. If you manage to get into safe mode, then you can run the restore of the system from there. Otherwise, another option is to perform the Startup Repair.

    Method 1: Troubleshooting Safe Mode

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode

Safe mode is an option of troubleshooting for Windows that starts your computer with only basic services and features.

To get into safe mode, check out this help article: , start your computer in safe mode

    Step 2: Run system restore

For complete help, see this article:System Restore: frequently asked questions

Note: If you use system restore when the computer is in safe mode, you can not undo the restore operation. However, you can run System Restore again and choose a different restore point if any.

    Method 2: Startup Repair

Startup Repair is a Windows Vista recovery tool analysis of missing or damaged system files that may prevent Windows from starting correctly. Run it and see if that fixes the boot problem.

  • Not updated Windows Vista gets stuck

I've seen several threads on these, but they do not seem to help.

I have Vaio laptop with Vista operating system threads. It used to work well until last year.  However, lately when I try to start the computer, it did update Windows and gets stuck on update 3. I tried all the options in advanced mode by clicking on F8 key-start in safe mode, starting with the command line, start in recovery mode, etc. and they all end with the same question.  I don't have a backup boot drive.  I need to recover important data on the computer and need to start the machine atleast once.  Still, I don't want to disassemble the drive hard, etc..
