Updated level InPlace or repair Vista installation

I have various problems with Vista that I think started after installing IE8. I restored it to the oldest restore point, I had & got rid of IE8, but not all of my problems. I guess I have corrupted files. I ran scan disk & system file checker. I had problems with SP1 does not install year last & Microsoft had me do a upgrade inplace & got everthing goes again. When I try that now I get the error that installation is more recent that I am trying to install. I've gathered having SP1 SP2 & installed causes this. Microsoft has an installation disc I can get which has updates on it or I have to uninstall and start from there. I've read about vlite, but I think it is a bit much for me to 1 install. Thanks for any help.  Ron

Microsoft does not provide you with the Vista DVD updated.

You have a problem with Service Pack level.

Read the info below:

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to exchange the disc for a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk repair facility upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have install.

And run the repair installation upgrade of a family race Premium.

What exactly happens on your laptop? You can start Windows?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 installed on the drive. But I have an original DVD of Windows Vista (without service pack). Can I run the repair utility on this disc installation DVD? Will this work?

    Hello

    Loy is not going.

You will need to uninstall the Service Pack on the operating system that is installed to do a repair installation upgrade with this Microsoft Vista DVD which has no Service Packs on it.

The Service Pack on the DVD must be at least the same as the operating system Service Pack level installed to make it work.

Also nothing. Along with a check disk hard I did not find much either. What end of the lifecycle for this computer, now about 3 years? He was one of the first available vista computers. • Updated my computer to Windows Vista Service pack 2 for x 64 function foires systems

Okay, so I have recently updated this Windows Vista Service pack 2 for x 64-based systems.

After the update and restarting, I connected only to find myself staring at a blank white screen. However, I managed to hit the keys ctrl + alt + delete and go to the Task Manager to launch explorer.exe through the "new task...". ' button.

This brings me to my normal desktop, but none to start startup programs and CPU usage is 100% which makes the performance of my laptop more slow.

Sometimes I try to restart the laptop and it starts normally after the connection, but that happens only about 15% or less of the time.

Is there a way I could resolve this problem and I function normally again?

    BTW,

I don't have the CD of Windows Vista or install, so I can't really replace him.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi DaColossus,

    Method 1

I suggest that you perform the system restore before installing Windows vista service Pack 2 on the computer.

    System Restore: frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2

Once the service pack 2 for Windows vista is uninstalled from the computer, I would say that repair you system files on the computer by running SFC scan.

The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.

  • I am unable to repair Vista on Satellite L300

    Hi all!

I have a grilfriend L300 just died the other day.
The laptop was purchased at a Swedish retailer just a year ago, so the warranty just expired.

I have no idea why the laptop crashed, but since then there it does not start. Whenever the power is turned on that I find myself in the start menu advanced to give me some choises - repair Vista, start Vista in the normal way, start Vista in SafeMode etc. If I choose normal or safe at this point, the laptop wait about 5-10 seconds and it recharges... To navigate the start menu advanced once more...

If I select Repair Vista in the start menu, the display shows a normal Windows information pop-up window telling me that the sequence of repair is the collection of information on the computer and take a few minutes. It also displays a nice, work progress bar and a 'abandonment' - button. I rebooted the phone several times here and whenever I find myself here there never a few minutes. In fact, this State is an endless loop! I gave the cell a few minutes or even a few hours without any feedback (oh yes, the abort button works still after 24 hours if the L300 collapsed). So I tried a different approach.

This time, I tried the F8 key and saw the menu advanced startup options. By following the instructions here on the forum, I pressed 'Repair your computer' and selected a Swedish keyboard. But after pressing the Next button, the L300 entered an infinite loop and did not show the "User name" and "Password" of the whole screen. I gave the L300 24 hours to continue the process, but to no avail. So I stop.

My question now is how to proceed? I'm leaning towards a broken or non-existent recovery on the HARD disk or a defective HARD disk image. So I would like a test, a bootable CD with a Swedish recovery for the L300 image. Anyone here who can tell me where I can find/buy such a CD?

    Rob

    Hello

Sounds like a damaged BONE and new installation of the OS is more than recommended.

    > So as a test, I would like to a bootable CD with a Swedish recovery for the L300 image. Anyone here who can tell me where I can find/buy such a CD?

Of course, I can tell you where you can order a ;) recovery disk
    What about this site:

Here you can enter your serial number and usually if something goes smoothly, you should be able to order right recovery media

I have error code 8024200d when you try to update and install SP1 for Vista. I'm currently running Vista Ultimate. Any help would be appreciated.

    Matt,

The 8024200d result code indicates WU_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
Update Manager did not install the update because it must be downloaded again.
Suggest you download and Save the complete stand-alone package of Vista SP1.

Links to the standalone versions are on this page because you validate that the edition of Vista is x 86 (32-bit) or x 64 (64-bit). You can see the architecture of the system of opening in the Panel and next to the search System system type: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Before attempting to apply the SP1 please consider this information-

If you choose to install Windows Vista SP1 via the standalone installer available on the Microsoft Download Center, Microsoft recommends that you first check Windows Update and install all drivers in option. Read the Articles in the Knowledge Base 948187 and 948343 for more information.

Suggest you to create a folder on the root drive (the drive where Windows is installed, usually C:\) and name SP1.
Move the downloaded Service Pack in the newly created folder.
Disconnect all the devices, printer, external USB hard drive, etc.

Then, Configure the system starts in a clean condition
After you restart the worm as a clean boot, apply SP1.

  • Why am I asked to install the updates for xp in my vista machine?

At the risk of sounding really stupid... I dare ask this question: Why am I being asked to install the xp updates in my vista machine?  Updates are automatically presented, and the installation failed... After reviewing the updates that failed to install I noticed that they were all updates of security for XP and not vista.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Dutchie16,

Please contact the Forum of Microsoft Vista.

I read the question and by doing some research on this subject I think the update that you mentioned (kb 917150) and not (17150 kb).

I see that the update (kb 917150) is an update of security for office XP. This is an update to the office application and not for the operating system. We need to check two things:

1 > we do not have Microsoft office Xp installed in the system.

2 > we did an update from XP to Vista.

If 1 is true then please download the stand-alone office Xp update pack and install it. If the 2nd case is true then let me know because we have a different approach to solve the problem.

The link for the standalone pack for office Xp:

  • Repaired XP installation, cannot run the application "activate windows".

I had to repair my installation of windows after an HD program, then the system was forcing me to activate before login, but activation would never wear a screen. relieved of this issue by the
    Rundll32.exe syssetup, SetupOobeBnk
command. I can not connect, but now "activate Windows" does not work.

I have the OEM product key, he agreed during the repair. but I'm not able to activate windows and not be able to use any software for MS, although most of the other programs seem to work.

The yellow warning for non-activated windows box pops up again, but this time when I clicked, firefox open with a validation page. (previous clicks on the notification did nothing).  The page directed me to install the validation plugin. Once loaded, it could not get anything.

The page contained a third option to download an alternative method. I download and it could not activate my installation of XP as well, but would allow me to buy Windows 7.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/GenerateHTA.aspx?displaylang=en&error=1&PartnerID=107&page=validate

But now MSIE worked (it worked before) so I tried the link activate Windows on the start menu, and it was successfully launched. My windows is now activated and able to download updates.

    Hello

You are unable to update or upgrade Vista 32 bit to 64 bit of Vista.

32-bit to 64-bit, or 64 bit to 32 bit is done by a new installation using a full version of the operating system.

32-bit and 64-bit are different operating systems.
