  I received two chips memoy 4 GB and they would not work.  Verifed that they were seen by the system, but the system would not start.   Removed and tried a single, same problem.  Replace both 2 gb and it worked.   It seems unlikely that both are bad.

  This device should recognize and work with 8 GB or 4 gb chip, as it of a 64-bit using intel i3 and works win10 and do quite well with 4 GB but took the opportunity to upgrade and did not expect this problem.     Replacement chips come from a list, including the
  G72 and ar 4 GB ddr3 pc3-10600 sodimm / 1333 mhz which corresponds to the use of 2 GB.

  The point on this issue.   It is not resolved, but I decided to try the memory in another HP using an AMD processor that was older and a bit slower but it agreed to the memory and is very good in this unit of work.   It is interesting that the unit is NOT listed as being able to accept additional memory.

  The issue is clearly with this single unit, and it seems others have had a similar event.   While it is apparently isolated to this version of the G72.

  As far as I know that the unit has been delivered with the NVidia GeForce4 420Go 32 MB graphics card. This isn't a memory sheared graphics card.
  The card supports the own memory and not a function of memory sheared.
  In this case, you cannot change the value of memory.

  I would get a few modules of 1333 MHz (recommend Corsair). We cannot change everything related to memory in the BIOS.

  The NEW RAM replaces the existing, in other words I have remove the 256 and replace it with the 512? Reading the user manual, it is not clear and talks about expansion module. Probably, it would be obvious if I opened it to the top, but I'd rather not at this stage.

  If your card supports 128MB value then it should be possible to increase it.
  Check the properties of the graphics card. Use the advanced option.
  You should see the tab called "Frame Buffer"
  There, it should be possible to change the size of the AMU.

  As you say the laptop U300-153 can scale up to 2 GB max.
  I really surprised that the BIOS has detected that more than 2 GB and that the laptop was able to boot in windows. Usually the laptop should not start and begin with more than 2 GB of memory

• xw8400: memory from 8GB to xw8400 / xw8600?

  I own a xw8400 and want to use the modules of memory 4x8Go.

  I bought 64 GB (8x8Go) FB DDR2 Fully Buffered PC2-5300F 667 and they are accepted by the system.

  But after a while the computer breaks down / off. There are no blue screen or another trick helping to find the cause. The machine is switching to as pulling on the power cord.

  At first I thought that this could be a cooling problem. So I checked the temperature, and it seems to be in the regular limits (about 28-30 ° C air temperature).

  I found the info on the web, 32 GB on this machine (2 CPU) should be possible with a riser card (8x4GB). On the other hand, it could be only a result because the 8 GB modules were not available at this time.

  This could relate.  I have not confirmed this, but I think that the controller memory on the xw8400 is the same as on the xw6400.

  I noticed for a previous project that HP has officially supported specific 8 GB sticks in the xw8600, and controllers memory xw6600 and xw8600 were the same.  This gave me the idea that maybe, although not documented, these sticks of same for the xw8600 may work correctly in the xw6600.

  I received a portion of these HP 8 GB sticks and confirmed that they would run in my builds xw6600 very well.  , But they would not go in versions of my xw6400... even sticks, stations works perfectly same if they had HP 4 GB sticks in place.

  I think that you are facing a problem of memory controller on this older generation xw8400 post working... the sooner (6400/8400) and late (6600/8600) generation workstation familes I note above have different memory controller chipsets.

  I try to add a module from a MacBook from Apple 4 GB Ramaxel RMT3170EB68F9W-1600. The two modules are PC3-12800

  Is not work eather with the other module of 4 GB or as a single module.

  Is the default module or can it be something else, that I am not aware off the coast?

  @Paul_Tikkanen I checked the pages of product for both models and they are 1.35v. As I said the specs are identical for both modules.
