I have twice had problems trying to upgrade memory to my Satellite Pro 4600, so I decided to ask directly if Kingston KTC-SO133/256 MB is compatible with this machine?

It's the SODIMM I'm about to try next, but I have to pay for it first.

Problems were that the SODIMM modules is not compatible with the wonderful piece of memory or it won't work at all with Toshiba.

    Hello

I have a SP4600 and because I love this machine, I want to give him the chance to stay with me - but unfortunately, it will only work by increasing its performance...

Is anyone here has made some experiences in upgrading a SP4600 more than 512 MB of RAM?
I know that this machine uses PC100 SD - RAM that is available up to 256 MB.
But someone has tried successfully to put in PC133 memory? And if so, to were the limit?

And more: what about the upgrade of the rest, for example, the CPU or the whole motherboard?

I would be delighted if someone could give me some positive feedback on these issues...

    Hello

You can only use the memory 100 Mhz modules because the FSB is limited to 100 MHz.
If you use 133 Mhz modules, they will work only at 100 Mhz.

You can upgrade the satellite Pro 4600 until 512 MB (2x256MB)

I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro 4600 a 20 GB hard drive to a 60 gig.

When I go back my 20 original concert, it works well.
Y at - it a special procedure for the Assembly of the larger disks?

The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

    Hello

As far as I know, this unit comes with 4 different CPUs:
    Intel P3 100 Mhz FSB speed: 650, 700, 750, 800.
But I put t know if all this CPU runs on the same motherboard.
In addition, I did find all the documents concerning the assignment of pins.

Normally it s is not possible to change or upgrade the CPU on laptops, but in this case I might be possible. But I recommend to ask the service partner Toshiba for the second opinion.

  • PC133 is suitable for Satellite Pro 4600 memory upgrade?

    Hi all

I'm looking for an extra 256 MB memory module for my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The specs say one module of memory PC100 is necessary, but I was wondering if the PC133 modules would work as well. If so, are there problems with the mixture of the modules (PC100 and PC133)?

    Thank you for your attention.

According to the information on the site of very useful memory module, it should be possible to use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules.

I found this info on this site:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

In addition I don't recommend mixing the different modules. To my knowledge the lower speed module will decrease the performance of the memory. The two modules will work with the operation of the lower module.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - how to extend RAM memory

I want to increase the RAM in my old Satellite Pro 4600.

-Someone could advise me which of the (actually existing) types of RAM cards are suitable?
-The laptop has a maximum memory limit, or I can go up to 1 GB (for example)?

    Thank you.

Of course, there are some limitations to upgrade!
You can upgrade the memory on this laptop to max 512 MB (2 x256MB)!

You can use PC133 144 pin SODIMM as mentioned modules [here: | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=28447&ft=m&st=3]

Memory locations must be placed at the bottom of the unit.

    -Turn the computer
-remove the screws which fix the plug memory module cover
-slide you finger under the hood a lift it off.
-mount the fittings of modules in connectors of computers at a 45 degree angle, then press the modules carefully to ensure a good contact
-push the module down so it lies flat. Locks on each side will engage in the place to fix the module.

    All that... easy s ;)

  • Restrict HD for Satellite Pro 4600?

    Greetings!
I thought of upgrading my Satellite Pro 4600 (PIII 800 MHz, 20 GB, 386 MB RAM) with a larger HD.

My question is: what are the limits of this upgrade? Can I put in we'll say a 60 GB HDD? 80 GB? or is the satellite Pro 4600 limited to 20 or 40 GB?

I am running Win XP, bios and other updates specific to the Toshiba computer are up-to-date.

BTW: can I choose freely amongst external hard drive? Are there any size limits for these storage devices?

(The satellite Pro 4600 is a robust small snowman isn't?) I pulled a joke with a colleague: "Hey, I got an apartment yesterday when driving in the countryside. The road was all mud and I had to use my Toshiba under the jack! ("He thought me :)...).

    Hey,.

Toshiba has a HDD 40 gig for the model, but I'm not really sure if you can upgrade the model 60 or 80 GB

  • Satellite Pro 4600: I want to upgarde the RAM

I want to upgarde the RAM on my satellite pro 4600. It currently has 128 MB of RAM.
Anyone know what kind of memory card should I buy and how to install it?
    Should what size I go?
I've been in the PC World and they weren't much help.
Any ideas / information gratefully received.
    See you soon,.
    Bob.

    Hi Bob,

The following link will take you to a page containing all relevant information on memeory upgrades for your 4600 (including part numbers.

    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

I think that your device has two memory slots, and I assume that you currently have a home in use with 128 MB of RAM installed (the 4600 had 64 MB or 128 MB).

RAM modules are available in sizes 64 MB, 128 MB and 256 MB.

The maximum that you can install is 512 MB (i.e. 2 X 256 MB modules. The amount that you need will depend greatly on what applications run you as well as what operating system, but the usual recommendation is a minimum of 512 MB for windows XP (at least for the earlier OS).

The RAM modules are normally accessed from the bottom of the unit. Normally, there is a cover with 2 or more screws. Check you manual for the exact location on your device.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite Pro 4600 very unstable and BSOD

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro 4600 c750/128 with xp installed.
It was ok, but slow, so I've updated at 500 MB of memory.

He now became unstable under windows and throw a screen blue after awhile, which is a related, but firm and we will restart until I have a chance to read the error message.

I tested the new memory from one day to the next with memtest and run 4 passes all tests without error, about 9 hours of operation (on the back).

The event log indicates a discharge, but this does not mean a lot to me.
The event log has an error during startup, what was there before the memory upgrade.
Googling Sugest a fix to update the bios, it's always available for this laptop bios?

The BIOS should be available for this former Satellite Pro 4600.
The BIOS and drivers must be placed on the page of European driver of Toshiba.
Here, you will need to search the Archives!

But I doubt that the error is caused by the BIOS.
Is the laptop ran stable also with the previous BIOS and it foolish to update the BIOS to fix this problem.
I'm sure it won't change anything!

Upgrade the RAM and BSOD appears now.
I think that the problem is related to the RAM, even if the ram test didn't find any errors
The RAM may be not compatible also if no error has been detected.

I recommend that you test the laptop without the new RAM and check if the BSOD will appear again.

    Hello

I found the news that DVD-ROM Toshiba SD-C2402 and Toshiba SD-R2002 readers are compatible with your model of laptop. If you have info that Toshiba SD-C2732 can also be used you should try it.

Moreover, in my opinion, it is OK that's just English allowed on this forum and can be understandable for us all.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: sometimes applications stop running with the new RAM

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on my problem. I've recently upgraded for an extra 256 MB on my Satellite Pro 4600. The laptop showed the increase in RAM. Since the installation, for some reason any after running for awhile applications (this varies between 10 minutes to a few hours like laptop start up), applications stop running. I can not open new applications. When I restart, I can run the applications in my laptop as usual again.

I received my offtek RAM. Manufacturer part number is the same as specified in the manual of my laptop.

    Please someone has an idea?

    Hello
