Upgrade oem 32-bit pc, convert Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, have no disks... have all the original documents.

I have a Dell Vostro PC, with windows 7 32-bit professional.  I decided to rebuild the pc with a new motherboard, processor I-5 and addition of new 8 GB of ram.  I decided to upgrade the system to 64-bit, but initially never received a purchase from Dell OEM operating system.  I'm not moving this Windows operating system to another pc and have the information of the service tag and all the.    When I set up this unit, I would start with 64-bit performance.

You can call Dell, but they will not help you. If swap you a Dell motherboard for whoever you bought in a computer store, so is no longer a Dell. The new motherboard will not have a Dell BIOS.

The only way to get a better Dell is buying a complete computer. Dell will not go up or send you a motherboard uprated for your computer.

Dell will sell you also not an installation disc Windows 7 generic either because they don't have any...

Like it or not, and there have been some in the past who have supported the point with me, it's the motherboard that determines whether a product is a Dell or HP or whatever because the OEM motherboards contain BIOS OEM.

Motherboards that you buy in a computer store will have a generic BIOS that will work with an integrator system or keycode retail version, but if you try to use a Dell OEM key code, it can register at the start. However, over time he throws himself as 'not genuine' because the keycode and the BIOS do not match...

When a card mother OEM is scrapped for something better from a computer store, you're on your own with respect to the future. not only all of the computer, but also the installatiion of Windows. You must buy your own windows...

    Please note this step #9

If the activation service informs you that she has failed and cannot help with activation, then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to an operator of activation which will help you to activate your copy of Vista. The operator will give you all the numbers to ID of Confirmation if they accept that your copy of Vista is legitimate.
NOTE: The operator just explain your situation and what you did to require activation. (EX: hardware upgrade, installed Vista on a new computer after uninstalling it from the old one, etc...)

What version of Windows you want to transfer is irrelevant. What
you need to do is just transfer to another computer.

There are several approaches to do this. What is the best for you
based primarily on the amount of data you transfer. Here are a few
    choice:

    1. transfer on diskettes.
    2. transfer to CDR or DVD.
    3. by email from the old machine, and read e-mail on the new
    one.
    4. the two computers on the network and simply copy the files on the
    network.
    5. temporarily (or permanently) install the old computer's hard
drive in the new computer and just copy the top.
    6. use a USB

I have a Hp Pavilion Media Center Edition 2002 running. How will I know if I have all the patches and updates, I need? Also is free upgrade to the edition of 2005?

Hi Philofduluth and thanks for posting.

There is not a free upgrade for Media Center 2005. If this is something you would like to do, I contact your OEM manufacturer and ask if there is a software upgrade, they can provide you.

If you have all the updates that are available for your system go to http://update.microsoft.com . Here, you can see all the latest reviews and optional updates that may be available to you and make install.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions.

If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop DMG

    • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
    • Install the new version you downloaded

  • I have all the sounds, BUT those of Windows Media Player 7.

I have all the system sounds, sounds of a PowerPoint presentation, etc.. No sound of anything that uses Win 7 Media Player.  Video is very good and the bar at the bottom, which indicates that a piece of music from a CD plays forward as if he were playing, but I don't hear anything.  Ran a Uniblue registry cleaner a week ago and I don't think that the WM Player souand works since.  Restored the registry to its 'own pre' State, still no sound in WMP. just from the video.  Also installed Win 7 SP1 which asked me to set up the media player.  He said yes, he had run, duly filled, no sound!  Any suggestions?

You hear no sound when you play a MP3 file in Windows Media Player?

Please make sure that the sound is not muted in WMP, and that the volume is high enough.

    Hi Rohit,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum. I understand that your USB drive is having problems of compatibility with your computer, but I would like to learn more about the issue in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. You did it any significant hardware or change software on the computer before this problem?
    2. When do you get exactly the error message?
    3. Have you tried to connect to any other computer on this flash drives?
    4. Your USB key works on other computers or have you tried to connect to different USB ports on this computer?
    5. Is the pen drive getting detected in the case or you are able to access the drive folder in the window of the computer ?

The question may arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or damaged, or if your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a device USB and Windows. This can also occur if your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt. So, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

Please try the fixit (s) provided below which will help you solve common problems associated with devices and USB ports.

If method 1 does not work, try Method 2.

    Method 2:

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.

    1. Open Manager devices by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click system and security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In the list of the categories of equipment, locate and expand Bus USB controllers.
    3. Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    4. Restart the computer and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.

Plug in the removable USB device and test to make sure that the problem is solved.

If the problem persists, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

This method will install the latest drivers from device to your USB device.

    1. Click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the results pane.
    2. Click find updates. When the scan finished, click optional review updates.
    3. Click the check box next to the update, and then click install updates.
    4. If you are prompted, read the license agreement, then click I agree.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install updates.
    6. If you are prompted, restart your computer.

Hope this information is useful. If the problem still persists, please post back for further assistance, we will be happy to help you.
