Upgrade of Oracle DB RAC/Clusterware 11.1.0.6 for 11.1.0.7

We currently have an installed Oracle and 11.1.0.6 with Clusterware running 11.1.06 and we have been informed by one of our suppliers to perform an upgrade for 11.1.0.7. I had a few questions regarding the upgrade process because I do not found the answers in reading me on the site.

1. in the read me section it is this statement «The Oracle Clusterware software must be at the same or more recent than the software Oracle Oracle RAC Oracle home or home ASM.» Therefore, you should always pass Oracle Clusterware before you upgrade Oracle RAC or Oracle ASM. This patch does not allow to upgrade Oracle RAC or ASM Oracle before you upgrade of Oracle Clusterware. »

When I did the installation I downloaded 11g Release 1 and Clusterware 11 g release 1. Now, I know that the patch is for 11.1.0.7 database, this means that it is an inclusive to Clusterware? I tried to search in metalink in the "Fixes and upgrades" section for an 11.1.0.7 upgrade for RAC, but did not find anything.

2. I plan to do this update on Saturday, while we have minimal connectivity. Can I still upgrade spread from the DSO even if we will have little to no connectivity?

3. can I just use the dbca utility to upgrade the database or is it better to manually update each individual database, because I am running Clusterware.

I apologize if these questions are generic, but I wanted to just make sure that I understand very well what I'll do.

If I understood your question correctly then yes it's true that the clusterware version must be at the level even of the Oracle RDBMS / ASM houses in this cluster. The same group of fixes is applicable for Clusterware, ASM, and RDBMS and YES will modernize the binary relevant according to your selection of ORACLE_HOME, while applying to this group of patches using YES. It's the beauty of Oracle RAC that it allows you to perform the upgrade of the Clusterware and ASM then why not use it because it allows to avoid downtime. In your case if you can afford downtime, then it must be your choice to not use it. I recommend using dbua upgrade the database because he takes care of everything that is necessary to upgrade the database.

See you soon

    (The reason why I'm installing 9i RAC: we have an old 9i RAC database, and I want to change the very old hardware (servers and storage too).) My plan is to install RAC, create a blank database and import the data from the old to the new.)

    The problem is, when I start DBCA (dbca - datafileDestination O:\oradata > c:\dbca_result.txt) and set up a rac database, the process of creating crashes to 2%...

    I know that this kind of situation, important people will say that, upgrade - impossible! I can understand - depending on the application - it can be a major problem for upgrade to a higher version. But what is the difference between 9.2.0.6, 9.2.0.7? Bug fixes, but no change in characteristics. Why should the application stop working? To be honest I don't know if 9.2.0.7 (or even better 9.2.0.8) will solve your problems, but at least you would have an environment, which has BEEN supported in the past.
    I think that the community here can give you some other answers, support Oracle would have done the same thing.

  • problem with oracle 9i RAC privileges

    Dear all,

    I have an Oracle 9i RAC on AIX 5.3. I'm new to RAC environment.

    Today, I tried to give unlimited tablespace to a TEST user.

    But when I check dba_sys_privs nothing is there.

    =========

    SQL > alter the TEST user quota unlimited data;

    Modified user.

    Elapsed time: 00:00:00.01

    Select the DEALER, the PRIVILEGE of dba_sys_privs where dealer = "RESTORE_BIL";

    DEALER
    -THE PRIVILEGE
    CREATE TABLE RESTORE_BIL

    RESTORE_BIL CREATE SESSION
    ===================================
    He does not watch the unlimited storage space.

    There a stupid question, but this is the second time I am facing problem. When I grant a privilege object/system to a user, the command works, but when I consistent, sometimes that privileges are a few times that they are not there.

    Help, please.

    Unlimited quota! = Unlimited tablespace.

    And granting of unlimited storage in my book is pure evil, which also allows to create objects in the SYSTEM tablespace, where everyone should stay out.

    There is no problem that you never unlimited tablespace privilege and you shouldn't have done it. I would have fired you for it.

  • Oracle 10g Rac (TAF)

    Hello
    I'm known for RAC env.
    How to implement TAF in oracle 10g RAC approx.
    and how do you know... and how conf (base & preconnect) services for which use them.
    Thank you
    KK

    Before you configure TAF, you should know about TAF

    If the instance fails, TAF allows applications to automatically reconnect to a different instance. The new connection will be identical to the original, but uncommitted, existing at the time of breaking transactions will be cancelled.

    TAF can be configured to perform two types of failover: session and selectwith the resumption of the session, any uncommitted transaction will be cancelled, and the session will be linked to another instance, with the resumption of the selection, uncommitted transactions will be cancelled, the second will be connected to another instance and any select statement that was running at the time of the breakup will be rerun by the sesion again using the same RCS and recoveries lines will be rejected upward until the original request has failed. The Select statement will continue return the remaining rows to the client.

    a TAF connection must be configured in the configuration file net tnsnames.oraOracle. In oracle 10.1 and higher, the DBCA services management page can generate appropriate TNS for the TAF entries.

    To configure the TAF, the TNS entry should include a FAILOVER mode clause that defines the properties of the recovery as follows,

    TYPE attribute defines the behavior as a result of a failure. Value: Session, select or none

    Attributes of the METHOD--> when connections are made to the failover. Value: base or preconnect

    ATTEMPTS--> number of times where a connection should be attempted before displaying an error.

    DELAY--> the time in seconds between each connection attempt.

    Reading Document Oracle,

  • upgradation of Oracle 10 g

    Hi all
    I have successfully upgraded to oracle 9i to oracle 10gR2.Is is it possible to downshift before version oracle 9i.
    time that the process of decommissioning is he set up no comparability INIT.ora parameters we have to the conf?

    Thank you
    KK

    Hello

    Yes it is possible. You can review;

    Compatibility matrix of Database Server Upgrade/Downgrade [ID 551141.1]

    If the source database is 9.2.x then it can be downgraded to 8.1.7.3.0 (or higher)

    If you want to downgrade your 9i database I would also advice to review the following:

    Decommissioning of a database to previous version of Oracle

  • The upgrade of Oracle client

    Hello

    Recently, we have updated production company running on AIX 5 L of 10.2.0.1-> 10.2.0.4. There is little of siebel CRM applications where oracle 10.2.0.1 client was installed and these application using oracle client jdbc to connect to the database server.

    I would like to know, claim we upgrade the oracle 10.2.0.1 client as well to the same group of patches from the database server (10.2.0.4).
    do we have any Oracle recommendation for same? As this is a living environment and no results in loss of bussiness downtime.

    Thanks in advance.

    Both your client software certified on the last group of patches, there is no reason do not improve the customer.

    Nicolas.

  • Oracle 10g RAC - private interconnection on VLAN not routable private

    There is in our data center existing Oracle 10g RAC configured with VLAN private interconnection managed by a different group of DBA.

    We create a new, separate Oracle 10 g RAC environment to support our request.

    When we discussed with our data center people to set up a local VIRTUAL private network for our CARS of interconnection, they suggest to use the same VLAN used by the other Oracle RAC configurations existing private. In this case the IPs of interconnection will be on the same subnet as the other Oracle RAC configurations.

    For example, if
    RAC1 with 2 nodes use 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 in the VLAN_1 for the Interconect, they want us to use the same VLAN_1 with interconnecting IP 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4 to our 2 node RAC.

    Share the same subnet on the same private VLAN for the interconnection of different configurations of RAC, supported?
    Which will cause a drop in performance? This means the IPs of a RAC interconnect configuration is to pings from other RAC configuration.

    Someone met with such purpose?

    Could not find any info on it on Metalink.

    Thank you

    Yes
    It is practically very doable... as you would have only 4 m/c in subnet ip... and it is much less than the public subnet that we should abstain from interconnection.

    Using RAW could be the problem. I'm not sure someone who has used Virtual Box with raw disks for their RAC testbed. Most people use ASM. I've seen a few people use NFS as well. You'll also want to stay away raw because that which is frowned upon in 11.2. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e41962/whatsnew.htm#RILIN931

    Under the Options deprecated for Oracle RAC 11 g Release 2:

    "Installation of files on raw devices is no longer an option available during installation. You must use a shared file system, or using Oracle Automatic Storage Management. »

    The following versions of Microsoft Outlook are fully supported on Windows 7;

    • Outlook 2003
    • Outlook 2007
    • Outlook 2010 (when it came out)

    It is recommended to always update your version of Outlook directly after installation to take care of any question of incompatibility which have been corrected.

    Previous versions
    Another version of Outlook is not supported on Windows 7. Although you may install it, any compatibility issues is not corrected. For example;

    • Outlook 2002/XP works on Windows 7, but it has the same problems remember password when using Windows Vista.
    • Outlook 2000 cannot be installed in Internet Mail Only Mode (IMO) and must be installed in company/workgroup (CW Mode) Mode to prevent a mistake wab.dll.
