Upgrade options card Alienware Area 51 ALX graphics

I searched through the forums in vain for what I hope it's a simple question.

I have a 4 years, Area 51 ALX with dual AMD 6990 cards installed. However, AMD does not support these one more and the last set of drivers that they issued are not compatible with most of my games on Steam.

So - I'm looking to replace those with newer nVidias.

But - that are comaptible?

Hello

You can upgrade to GTX1060, 1070, 1080, Titan X PASCAL, among others; and since for the performance of dual AMD 6990 you should already have the 1200W PSU.

  • Profile of Alienware Area - 51 ALX Intel XMP A10 does not work with DDR3 1600 MHz

I bought three Kingston 8 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz 240 pin DIMM that totals up to 24 GB of RAM and install in my desktop computer. When I turned on and the message appeared saying:

Maternal health and infant is running with DDR3 - 1333 MHz

WARNING! Previous overclocking failed, and system restore its default value. Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter Setup Menu

When I access the BIOS setting (version A10), I disabled XMP and then it went through fine after the reboot. However, I have to have XMP allow at any time? How can configure profile 1333 MHz to 1600 MHz XMP?

What bothers me is that I had three former PIN of Kingston 4 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz 240 DIMM which total up to 12 GB of RAM and the XMP worked very well with them before they were 1600 MHz.

The type of computer I have is:

    Alienware Area-51 ALX

    Intel Core i7 980 Extreme 6 c with 12 MB of Cache

    Windows 7 Ultimate

Please, help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

And I certainly don't have the answer, but I'll remember these points:

    1. I think that you can set manually nothing XMP adjustable (but with more control).

2 machines often memory need to be slowed down when you are near maximum capacity look maintenance manuals.

3 area-51 has never been tested or even allow the 8 GB DIMMs. You are in the new territories.

    4. If you really need 24 GB (and it works at 1333) then the 267 speed drop is insignificant.

  • Alienware Area 51 ALX difficult questions of car upgrade

Hi all!  I have an area 51 alx from ~ 2010 with a card mother stock.  I'm looking to replace the disks accompanying with a Samsung 850 Evo SSD.  SSD SATA3 and I'm fairly certain that the parent stock on my machine has only SATA 2 correct slots? My question is what can I do so that I'm not headed by the limit of 300 MB/s, which comes with 2 SATA?  What are my options?  I am currently struggling to get CC working in another thread on this forum (can be a hardware problem) and so a card mother update isn't out of the question.

I've added a section at the bottom of this post. Hope that helps or who gets at least help you get started in the right direction.

  • Alienware Area 51 (ALX)

    Hello

I have an Alienware Area 51. I think that's not the ALX, but I'm not sure. I have a few questions:

    1. the Dell website does not recognize my service tag when I he returned in product support, my tag is the NOTE from the ADMIN: maintain the label removed according to the rules of confidentiality > (generated by the system Dell detects)

    2. I think that my collar closed not automatic, but how can I be sure? I see that somewhere?

    3. the active ventilation does not work correctly. 2 fins are not going up, they get stuck after one or 2 centimeters. They go down in the normal way. How can I fix?

    Thanks in advance

Remove the two side panel access doors. Remove your signs of topping top skinny black acrylic finish on both sides of the case so you can access to the fins, their hinges and screws. When you turn on, look to see what makes your 2 flippers paste. If you need to, "help" take off. Command center can open, active evacuation, have CC open the fins and close once or twice. Do test for bonding. Usually, it comes down to the torque of the screw end, or the torque of the screws of the trim panel. Unless of course you can see what is the cause of bind, as an obstacle.

You can try back a little torque on the screws of the fin on the 2 fins that stick. Reinstall the screws to the appropriate if - couple when they return to normal. Retest w/Command Center, open/closed. If everything is fine, reinsert the finishing trim panels and reinstall the screws, but not too tight just yet. Repeat the test with the command center to open the closed fins. Usually, the screws from trim to finishing nearest you for what purpose clings is the culprit, then tighten or loosen based on the question whether one of these tips have helped. As long as the finishing pad screw is almost tight, it will keep the filling and not make the stick of fin...

Basically, remove your doors case, remove the upper trim, power and go from there...

  • Alienware Area 51 Tri SLI HELP

So, I recently bought a Dell Alienware Area 51 with graphics cards from NVIDIA SLI 980 4 GB DDR5. I want to buy a 3rd 980 now directly from Dell. They don't tell me no problem but they don't sell Tri SLI bridges? It makes no sense at all? You are selling computers game, but if we want to add a video card you do not sell the bridge for her? I know that dell has them because you can set up a computer with them, with 3 graphics cards requiring this bridge. If they do not sell this bridge then I give them $600.00 for another purchase of the card. Makes no sense...

I contacted Dell spare parts to the 1-800-289-3355 service. I could order the Tri SLI Bridge part # GYN70 (Assembly, graphics card, NV, bridge, Tri-State for $139.99). I also contacted a Support technique Alienware (not Dell) and after explaining my situation, they sent the cables needed to connect the extra GPU to supply free of charge. I hope this helps.

  • Update card Alienware Aurora R3 graphic

    Hi all

I need some tips for upgrading my current graphics card.

I am running double cards Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, which is initially the computer.

Not sure what would be a good upgrade not too expensive for my system and also if should I buy 1 card or contiune with two graphics cards.

Let me know if you need my computer guru to give a better idea of what I need.

    Thank you!!!

Hi Darkstarboi - just remember that all suggestions will be the personal opinions of peoples!

Your on the team of Nvidia or AMD according to what you like.

Personally, I'm on the AMD team. These are my reasons.

    1. better bang for your buck (value for money)

    2. largest (in general) ability of Nvidia GPU

As Tesla mentioned in a previous post, simple maps are better than double, less problems and a lot, a lot less heat in the case (bi - GPU of in an Aurora that give about 10mm of the gap between the GPU - ridiculous!)

If you go with bi - GPU then don't forget if you don't you OEM GPU, you will need to buy the standard of 'reference' of the GPU, not GPU which is sold to the computer vendors.

Use of the GPU to reference a fan that sucks hot air from inside the case and expelled through a vent at the rear of the GPU instead of recycling/expel hot air inside the housing of the computer as the standard GPU do, they are a little more difficult to obtain than standards, but if you go double, I don't recommend using anything else you have overheating problems.

In my opinion, if you want something on the cheap side giving you a leap upward in performance and speed then I would recommend a single 4GB AMD 6990.

If Tesla autour it may be able to give you advice a little better than me, he is the man to talk with Alienware desktop computer (sorry of Tesla, I hope that this post don't bombard you with messages :)!)

FYI - in one of the previous posts on this subject, it has been mentioned that only a few GPU have been "authorized" by Dell, just to clarify that for you.

Dell has only affirm that they have not test anything after the 6990 on your machine, it means absolutely nothing to the end-users of no guarantee of left, pretty well all of the cards, even the new GTX780 or the 'R' AMD series and other work on/in your machine, it's just political: P

Using a "replacement card" in your PC even if you have the remaining warranty cancels not it, you just won't have any guarantee on the aftermarket GPU, that is not a question if you buy the aftermarket GPU new since it will have its own guarantee.

The fire extinguished any other question you have, theres not a lot of people here who can help you.

  • Satellite P30: Where are updates for graphics card?

Why is there not an updated driver dedicated to... Well well... every laptop that has the ATI graphics card? I have downloaded those for my laptop (P30), 2 years of delay, downloaded a few for the last notebook with the same type of card - they work - but are also 2 years out of date.

I m using the Omega drivers that overheat the card to the point where everything will probably melt someday and I can do without them, can not play city of Heroes, can't play Doom 3, can not play Half Life 2, cannot play a newer than 2 years game.

    [Edited by: admin]

    Hello

I can't give you a good answer why there is no update driver for old devices most recent graphics card. But the fact is that Toshiba designed many laptops including several different graphics cards and there are the latest graphic drivers. In addition graphics drivers from Toshiba are not the same thing as the manufacture of graphics cards drivers. The graphics on laptops are not same as of the graphics cards on the desktop PCs. Don t mix that!

Graphics drivers of Toshiba supports protection against overheating. This is important because the graphics card can not be cooled as on the desktop PC. If the inverse of temperature at the critical level, the pilot will be decrees performance of the card to make the lower temperature.

  • Upgrade of Windows 8 has changed my graphics card driver, & now I get vertical bars on the screen.

Upgrade of Windows 8 has changed my graphics card driver, & now I get vertical bars on the screen, sometimes flashing. It is sometimes difficult to use the screen, especially when it has a dark background. It is a HP Desktop quad core with card Nvidia GEForce 9600.  I tried to roll back the driver, but that didn't help. I assume that the driver I need is no longer available. I also went to Nvidia to try to find a better driver that would eliminate this problem, but no luck.  Before, this came with an update on Vista, & I could correct in the way to roll back the driver. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to www.nvidia.com and download the WHQL 306,97 drivers updated successfully.

With the installation of Windows 8, Microsoft provides only the "bare" minimum drivers in order to complete the installation of Windows.

  • Problem updating display on Alienware Area-51 m15X Vista drivers

Hello. Recently, I had a virus on my Alienware Area-51 m15X. It finally did my restore my computer to its factory site. Most of the drivers was missing. I reinstalled my wireless card driver and the graphics driver, but the graphics driver does not work correctly. I uninstalled and went on the Web from NVIDIA site to reinstall the appropriate driver, and it still doesn't work right. I used Driver Sweeper to clean all the files on my HARD drive that are associated with the NVIDIA device in safe mode. I reinstalled all the and restarted my computer and I still get the error message. I can't send it because it is not under the manufacturer's warranty, and I have little money to send it to Best Buy Geek Squad. Please, if there is a way to solve this problem, even though it requires the formatting of my HARD drive, I'll be ready to do so.

I solved the problem. For future use, if you own an Alienware or use the NVIDIA 8600 M GT card, uninstall the driver using Device Manager and use the driver Sweeper to remove all traces of the driver. Once this done, do not restart, but go on the alienware website and download the NVIDIA driver (you must know your operating system, ect. ect. for the driver) and install it. Windows will say that his signature is unreadable. Click on install anyway. reboot and your laptop must be as new :D

  • HP Pavilion dv6000: upgrading wireless card

I want to upgrade the card wireless in my HP Pavilion dv6000. What are my options? I'm fine with an upgrade of the single band, but if a double Strip is now available for this machine, I would prefer that he.

    Thank you

By looking at the drivers. I see a wifi iNtel into the mix and if you have a wifi iNtel I could choose a family of wifi iNtel to try something like card full length iNtel 5100 or 5300 to see if it works, but it's to try the cause, it can be costly to try to go that route. But I can tell if your system has a wifi iNtel so I would go with a family card full length of wifi iNtel. Also, you can try the older Intel 4965 which is dual-band you will not use all three connections but you can use two of the other and it works perfectly. I have a HP DV5 - xxx and a full length 5300 only connected to two connections and it works very well. Make sure if you buy wifi iNtel that they are close to corresponding to your model of HP models.
