Upgrades via anytime using any retail keys?

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but wanted xp mode and some other features with professional and ultimate edition.

I was going to originally get it from dixons or currys as an anytime upgrade button, but as my father is a teacher, he ordered an updated 64-bit retail copy (a copy upgrade that includes the drive as well... not only the product key) for me to a site that provides products for a discounted price to educational staff.

Am I right in thinking that once I received it, I can just enter the key in the wizard at any time to upgrade to unlock additional features? I guess it will be a retail copy as the only other versions I know (msdn and oem) can be sold on their own of course.

Yes, up to date and complete version of retail licenses can be used for upgrades of any time. Releasing it's easy: with Windows | ActiveWin | Laptops | Microsoft MVP

No, this is not possible. I guess that you don't really want
"retired", and that XP has been installed clean.

and now there is something wrong and that Windows will not start

Something new, or it never does to start XP?

No. an OEM product key does not work with a retail CD. The CD and the
product key must match with respect to retail vs OEM, complete vs.
    Upgrade and family or professional.

Whatever you do, you must first copy the Word documents and music
files from external media: CD, DVD, USB keys, eternal hard drive
etc. Even if could do an upgrade (which you do not have a key for) you
should do it because there is always a risk of losing everything.

  • I bought 7 retail to upgrade to Vista and have since upgraded to 10. The product key is coming as invalid

I have an old laptop that I am trying to set up for my daughter. It had XP on it and I have a physical disc of Windows 7 I have installed on it. I bought 7 retail to upgrade to Vista and have since upgraded to 10. The product key is coming as invalid. I thought that I could use it again since I upgraded from 7 to 10. Is the product key invalid, because I already used it once even if I'm not on 7? Can I buy just a key somewhere or I have to buy a new copy of 7 again? It installed fine that I just can't turn it on. Thank you.

    Windows 7 product key

Because the free update of Windows 10 used the license to the retail of Windows 7 as an eligible basic license, you cannot transfer it elsewhere or you reuse.

You will need to purchase a new license of Windows 7 or buy a license for version full Windows 10.

My recommendation to waive the license of Windows 7, I would buy a full version license Windows 10.

Once you do this, you can just update the values of product key for your system runs Windows 10, and then reactivate the license of Windows 7 by phone.

    Buy Windows 10 family/professional edition

    then

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

  • Can we use this product key on the back of the laptop for the activation and the windows 7 Professional 32-bit to windows 7 Professional 64-bit upgrade?

I have a laptop HP originally shipped with windows 7 32-bit professional. Now I want to upgrade to windows 7 professional 64 bit. I don't have with me installation disk. So I thought that it is possible (and legal) to resume an installation of windows 7 professional 64 bit disc from a friend and use this product key on the back of my laptop computer to activate windows after the installation of 64-bit? I'm a bit confused.

NOTE: This sticker on the laptop has windows 7 pro oa, and a product key to 25 digits (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx) written on it.

In addition, the product ID in the information system in the control panel is OEM.

Yes, you can use the product key located on the COA sticker with a full retail version or the version upgrade Windows 7 Professional disc.

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-Windows-easy-transfer-in-Windows-7/

Boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)
Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:
The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.
(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

Yes, you can, as long as they are the same edition.

SP1 or RTM (non - SP1), it doesn't matter, as long as you have a key corresponding to the edition being installed.

  • Can I use a product key UPGRADE from 32-bit Windows 7 to a new clean install of Windows 7 64-bit?

In 2009, I upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7 32 bit. This laptop recently died and is no longer in use.

I am building a new computer and I want to install it on Windows 7 64 bit (there no initial operating system because it is a made to measure machine).
Can I install Windows 7 64 bit on the new machine and then use the old product key, that I received in 2009, even though it was a upgrade for the 32-bit product key?

If its a version upgrade, the answer is no.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.
