Upgrading memory on Satellite Pro L40 - 15A

Hello

I have the Satellite Pro L40 - 15A with 512 MB of memory (Samsung), but I'm not going to 1 GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2 / 1 g I tray to put into the two slots, but nothing works I can't spend on computer.

But when I change to old laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program update the BIOS, or maybe the memory stick is broken.
Concerning

Hello

Safe computer laptop doesn t after upgrading memory due to these different problems;

-memory modules are not compatible set
-memory modules are not compatible with the laptop
-memory modules are defective
-a memory slots is defective

In most cases, replace the memory module helps.

A hint; have you tried to move the modules of memory in the slots? Sometimes it helps.
A few weeks ago I updated my memory and safe laptop didn t.
I thought that it s a malfunction of memory, but after the switch module Notepad started successfully.

Good luck

    Hi ib1.

You use the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or is it your own installation?

What to update the display driver? Take a look at the Toshiba page for the new display driver:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Don t forget to look in the * archives * on Toshiba page because this model is a little older, so all of the downloads are moved in archive.

  • Update of the question on Satellite Pro L40 - 15A - old BIOS BIOS cannot recognize the EEPROM

    Hello

    I can't Flash my bios.
    I have a Satellite Pro L40 - 15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool provided with the bios file tells me as the "old BIOS cannot recognize EEPROM.

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum, but telling me that the bios has a boot not block valid.

Flas for back FRIEND tells me that the flash rom is write-protected? There is no option in the bios to disable and I don't think that anyone would be stupid enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

    Help, please

    Dear Bruce

Can you please tell me what you want to do and explain us it please your steps to update the BIOS of your laptop Satellite Pro?

I did the update of BIOS more than 20 times in the last month and I really wonder what you mean with terms such as EEPROM or AFUDOS. What BIOS update version that you want to use? I assume as 5.10. Am I wrong?

  • Can I upgrade the CPU T2310 Satellite Pro L40 - 15A series laptop PC?

Hi, (I apologize if this has been asked before, but when I search 'Satellite pro l40 series' I couldn't find any relevant response)

I've been looking around the net & found contradictory answers to this question so far, so I hope that this forum may be able to help.

I have a 15 D portable computer Satellite pro L40 and I want to upgrade the processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.46 Ghz T2310 an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.1 GHz 1 MB 800 CPU or something similar.

I found the following issues http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-L40-14N-Notebook.7294.0.html

"f consider you a CPU upgrade, there is not a lot of options." The Intel GL960 value express notebook chip supports only up to FSB 533 Mhz processors. So, does not allow most of the Core 2 Duo CPU update (with 667 MHz). "

But then, I also read that the GL960 can run 800 MHz processors?

I also asked the question on ebay to the seller of the CPU T2310 & received this response

«SHOULD be OK, but your T2310 533 Mhz FSB and the T4300 has 800 Mhz.»

Motherboards intel more modern should easily accept a 800 mhz cpu, but I cannot guarantee. May be an idea to see if you can find out if there are other models of Toshiba L40, also with 800 mhz chip, because it would be a good indicator.

And if I can't pass a T2310 because of the 800 mhz too is their a 533 mhz cpu that will be compatible & more powerful for audio production that my current Ghz CPU T2310 1.46.

I've only had this PC 4 years again, it seems not to be very mobile friendly if this resource could not be designed to handle upgrades.

    Thanks for the tips.

Problem is that upgrading the CPU is not taken in charge and everything you do is at your own risk.

  • Upgrade memory on Satellite Pro A10

Can anyone advise me on the correct type of RAM to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard of 256 MB at the minute and I think to mortise in additional 512 MB next to her - but I am confused by the array of the types of memories and classifications - DDR - SODIMM etc!

Practice with the screwdriver, but not so hot with the acronyms. A big thank you to you all out there who know the score!

    Hello

I understand you very well and sometimes I also a bit confused because of the entire rating in the world of computing of m.

The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-pin PC2700 (333 Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this laptop up to 1024 MB (2 x 512 MB)

You can check this page of the memory module:

  • Upgrade memory for Satellite Pro L20

I use a satellite L20 pro - PSL25E. That this PSL25E means in terms of satellite pro L20 - 102 until xxx. On the support site to keep just the numbers but not this alphanumeric expression. I need this in order to select the upgrade module suitable.
If this can be answered, could someone tell me which module to upgrade should I choose in addition to the existing 512 MB?
    Thanks in advance

It of nice that you have found the laptop model after your own investigation.
However, in my opinion the portable Satellite Pro L20 all support the same kind of memory, if it s L20-259 Pro or Pro L20-174

The units are supported on these modules:
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)

    Hello

You will find on the A40 Pro Satellite 2 memory slots, and you can upgrade the memory for max 2 GB (2x1024Mo)

It should be possible to use these modules:
    PC2100 512 MB (PA3164U - 1 M 51)
    PC2100 1 GB (PA3278U-1M1G)

    And

    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G

I buy compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because I am so sure that the parts are compatible 100%.
I also recommend you to buy the modules constitute the ASP in your country.

    Hello

I studied a little more on the pages of Toshiba and I found a brief information:

  • Upgrade memory on Satellite Pro A60

I upgraded a Pro A60 with a memory of 1 GB upwards but the general tab panel /System/ watch still have 192 MB of RAM. This limits me downloading some software of safety of BT Yahoo.

Someone can advise on how I can make the machine to recognize the new RAM or is the 192 MB RAM memory different the new upgrade memory note?

If you use the incompatible RAM module, it is logical that system cannot recognize it properly. I don't know who is the manufacturer of this RAM 1 GB module, but if you want to use a consistent pick up some info on 1024Mo PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G) or check web page of Kingston.

  • Upgrade memory result Satellite Pro A210 to drop out of the station

    OK guys

I have a bios to 2.02 Pro A210 if I remember. I removed the 2 original and fitted with a stick of 2 giga mem chips.
I used it with a stick for a month or two. The worms of Vista I have are the 32 bit (see 3 gig) so I bought another concert of stick 2 mem, of course. Start machine stalls on F12 F2 choice. (issue of bios I think before post) I've not found in Bios anyway to disable checking of mem.

On a reboot that I can't enter Bios just keep arriving on the same screen.
I have removed the second stick of memory and am only using a mem stick once again (all beautiful in this mode). Instead of throwing away my money on the second stick I thought pop-up message and see what ideas you guys can come up with, as to aork close.

Either way, the mem is of good quality and of the same type of manufacturing.
The only thing I have not tried is to put the original 512 sticks see 2nd mem slot has not been damaged. (I have of course the slot is ok)

    See you soon

What is the complete model number?

See the brochure for the maximum memory size.

If you install 3 GB or 4 GB in a laptop that can take a max of 2 GB, it does not start correctly.

The manual says to use PA3126U - 1 M 12: 128 MB part number only. Anyone know where I can get this?

    Hi Bob

I found this memory module compatible info for your unit is:
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)
    PC133 128 MB (PA3085U - 1 M 12)

You can order from service partner in your country and also by some portable online parts dealer. Google around and you'll find a lot of online stores where you can order. You can also try your local dealer.

I would like to put in a chip memory of 1 GB in my current A60 because it has only 256 MB built in.

When you view the pieces on the Toshiba site, it does not show the available portion. These are no longer available?

    Thank you

    Hello

Compatible PC2700 1024 MB of RAM except the number PA3313U-1M1G. You can add it to existing 256 MB.

  • Upgrade memory for Satellite Pro L20 problem

    I buy a 1 GB, 200-pin SODIMM crucial (marked on the module as 1 GB 2Rx16 PC2-4200 s-444-12-A0) and added to the existing module 256 MB (marked as 1Rx16 256 MB PC2 4200 s-444-12-C3)

I can't get the 1 GB module memory I bought the work with the existing 256 MB module. The PC will recognize the 256 MB module in each slot and it will also recognize 1 GB memory module in the other location. However, when both modules are installed the PC doesn't recognize any order they are installed in the module 1 GB. The essential tool memory online seems to think that a slot is empty when it scans the laptop, even if both slots are filled. The BIOS also reports that only 1 GB is present when both modules are mounted.

No idea how I can get the two recognized modules?

    John

    Hello John

I assume that there is a compatibility issue. If possible, try to get the 1 GB of Kingston RAM module or module recommended by Toshiba.

If you have time take a look here

By the way: 1 GB of RAM is sufficient for your laptop L20. In my opinion with 1 GB of RAM, you can work on this model of laptop.

  • Satellite Pro L40-15 a (PSL4BE) BIOS update procedure

Hi, since trying to update the BIOS from Windows using the package provided on the official page to download always translated by the + black screen problem + described [here | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=47887&tstart=0], which is the * correct * on how to update the BIOS on this laptop?

I am no newbie: with these laptops, this is the first and only 2 has no BIOS updates, more than 100 + modernization successful in my career!

Here, I sketch the history with the my two Satellite Pro L40 - 15A (PSL4BE).

    Cell phone 1:
    a. BIOS 1.60
    b. upgrading to Windows * XP * to 5.50 _For Windows XP_
    c. programme stop the PC from the start, with a progress remains empty bar!
    d. first boot in the BIOS showing version 5.50 (!), but then: dead (black screen)
    e. taken for an ASP.
    f. after 15 minutes and for as little as 35 it has been resolved, and BIOS updated to 2.00
    g. explanation of the ASP guy was it was my fault, because since the laptop is with Vista installed, I couldn't do a upgrade the BIOS of XP!
    h. sold the laptop with BIOS 2.00

    Laptop 2:
    a. BIOS 1.60
    b. upgrade of Windows * Vista * to 2,00 _For Windows Vista_
    c. programme stop the PC from the start, with a progress remains empty bar!
    d. but the laptop still and always boots with BIOS 1.60.
    e. upgrade to Windows * XP * at 5.50 _For Windows XP_ (I know, I was really looking for troubles, uh?)
    f. first boot in the BIOS showing version 5.50 (!), but then: dead (black screen) (as 1 laptop)
    g. tried every combination of secret keys, CD, USB, floppy drive, but nothing could do the trick to force a BIOS loading, as the ASP was indeed able to do with my laptop 1!
    h. read 'notuagain' contribution to the forum thread [here | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=47887&tstart=0], and it worked.
    i. but now, the laptop still has BIOS 1.60

    Any ideas out there?
    Thank you

    Hello

Here you can find the traditional versions of updated BIOS for this laptop model:
    http://rapidshare.com/files/415039398/BIOS-2.0-psl4be-Vista.zip.html
    http://rapidshare.com/files/415039409/BIOS-5.5-psl4be-XP.zip.html

So you can update the BIOS using a USB bootable or external USB FDD drive.
