UPnP search fails when adding Xbox 360 Media Center Extender

First of all, I spent a week looking for a solution to this so if I missed something obvious, I apologize.

My xbox has been connected as a media center extender to this combination of the computer and the router for several months now. The router is a WII-HP-G300NH Buffalo. Earlier this week the media center extender was having video playback problems. After restarting the computer, the Extender was is no longer connected.

When I try to add a new extension unit I get the message "unable to add extender. Microsoft says to activate upnp and multicast. Check. Reflashed firmware dd - wrt. No luck. Back to buffalo firmware. No luck. Try an old Linksys WRT54GL I hang out. No luck.

The event recorder has this error: "Media Center Extender Setup has failed as the Extender has been detected on the network unsuccessfully searching for UPnP for the Extender (timed out after 20000ms)." Event ID: 538

Now, I did everything I could find on the activation of network discovery, anything allowing to access media and these. Network and sharing Center is located about large open. I also tried switching between home and work networks.

That said, I decided to check and see what updates have been installed. It turns out that an update has been applied on the day, that I started to have problems. It is said that it can not be uninstalled. Description Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software item updated

Note: I have no system restore points. Small SSD and has not taken the time to understand how to save elsewhere.

That's all the information I have. I convinced myself that it is not the router via the steps described above and that it is something to do with the computer. Help?

FIXED.

Reinstalled NIC drivers.

Hello everyone I thought I'd ask my question here as nowhere else.

The problem is, my xbox 360 has benn works fine it's just the media library.
Whenever I try to add as an Extender happens to the part where it sets up my xbox and it says error and it can not set up my computer. So far, I have tried the part where you remove certificates and restarted some Services, but none of them worked.
    Under Event Viewer, he said

  • Xbox 360 Media Center won't play Albums

I use my 360 as an Extender for 4 years. About 2 months back my hard drive of the PC began to fail. So I bought a new PC and recovered all my music on the new PC (old and new were running Win7 64 bit). I plugged the 360 as an Extender again. Everything (Live TV, Recorded TV, pictures, etc.) works perfectly. When I try to play music by clicking on 'Play the Album' I get an error box. "Audio error" "year Error Occurred while trying to play your selection. If I go in the album and click on any song and click on 'Play song' it works without error.

I tried to delete an album from the hard drive and ripping again and this album plays very well when I click on "Play Album". So, the question is not network settings or firewall or proxy, etc.. I have re - rip each album, but spoke more than 300 and I'd rather not spend this time. I guess that when I copied the files on the old PC Win7 something again has been or has been marked properly. So I reset the security and ownership on the files and there was no change. Individual files will be read, but the albums are not.

I should also mention that "Play Album" works fine on the Media Center PC.

So, the big question is, when you click on "Play Album" 360 Media Center Extender, which looks at the system and what it takes to be able to play the album successfully?

  • How do you play dubbed audio or subtitles in Windows Media Center Extender (Xbox 360)?

I know how to turn subtitles on my Windows Media Center PC, but there is no option to select audio dubbed or subtitled when you use Windows Media Center Extender. All my video files contain subtitles and audio dubbed foreign films.  My wife loves Spanish subtitles, because she has trouble understanding some English films.  I searched some forums and there are questions there but they have no definitive answers.  How a company billions of dollars developing a Media Center and leave out or miss crucial features like these? Please do not react with the thread on how to activate subtitles in TV Mode. Which does not apply to this question. The key word is EXTENDERS.

    Hi AnthonyWilson5

Subtitles should be coded in the movie view. These subtitles are automatically playing with video files. If the subtitles are a separate .srt file, then you will not be able to visualize everything by watching a video on the 360. There is no real turn option ON or OFF for subtitle in the Xbox 360.

  • When you use Windows Media Center on the Xbox 360 DVD have not given chapter.

After finally finding many questions I have my Xbox Media Extender and running upward and only this question left.

I'm ripping my DVD to single file .vob she seems to like and plays very well, but it is only with the file movie and nothing else in the record.  How the XBOX sees it, the bed and he plays very well.  However I have no control outside the break and if I restart it takes over the job.

Now if I rip my DVD with the .bup .ifo files in this folder the XBOX instantly he shoots in the list of the DVD and it will not play.

When I use Windows Media Center on my PC it preforms even when the film is in the folder.  Then when I add bup and ifo data I can still play, but he has all data in the chapter that I need.  Shows all the chapters, allows me to jump as I please.

How can I get my XBOX to behave like my PC?  I have to remove these 4 files in/out of the folder to see pop in and out of my list of XBOX.  How can I get the XBOX to validate data, so my movies actually have chapters and ignore the controls?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Hello, wilsman00

As mentioned, by changing the VOB files, the data in the chapter are probably damaged. This can be confirmed by putting in a retail DVD in the drive and play directly from the DVD.

  • 1290 error when you try to install Media Center extender for X 360 in Win7 Pro x 64

OK, here's one for someone who knows Win7 Kernel internals.

I am trying to connect my XBox 360 to my PC MC with Windows 7 Pro x 64. When I type the code 8 digits of the Xbox in Media Center, I get an error "Setup." Check the system error log, I found that it was a failure of the Media Extender service to start. Stop of is an error 1290, that says "service start failed because one or more services in the same process have a service SID inconsistent type parameter.» SID type has something to do with the core permissions or somesuch. WAY out of my League.
The only thing that I could find online is that this error occurs sometimes in what concerns the time Service Windows, and that a registry edit to fix it. I tried a similar "fix" on this service registry entry, but it had no effect on this error, so I changed the return register.
Someone has an idea of what I might try next? I did all the standard things that are recommended for problems of Media Extender, including uninstalling and reinstalling all components of media. Re-installation of Windows is NOT an option at this stage, this computer is used by all my children, and there would be a mutiny if he became unavailable for a long period of time (especially for as "lame" reason like this). I'd really listen to my media to my XBox. I hope that someone with some knowledge of the works of this service lies this question one day.

  • The xbox 360 Media Player no longer plays music after that I upgraded my CPU. Error message: media sharing service has been terminated

Original title: the xbox 360 Media Player plays more music after I upgraded my CPU

I have Vista 64 SP2.  The service runs for 5 seconds and then I get the message that she stopped. He was works well for years (my Xbox 360 sharing), I'm guessing he stopped a few weeks ago after I put in a slightly faster processor. I watched a some tech posted and tried to run the program which seeks the corrupted system files, but the only files that it could not pay had to do with the sidebar Windows. I have removed and put back my media extender, I thought that it worked because I've seen (from my xbox) miniature images, videos and music counting upward, as they have been added and I could see them. But if I take one he freezes for a few seconds and then says the media sharing service took end (or something like that). Then, I go to my PC and see that it stops. I can restart, but it only lasts for 5 to 10 seconds.

I also say a post about deleting files in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\DRM, but I have all the files in there. Just a server folder empty.

    Hello

Step 1: Check if the problem persists in the clean boot state.

  • Computer Xbox 360 Media Extender and Windows 7 do not 'see' each other

I had been successfully streaming from my PC content (32-bit) of Windows 7 to my XBox 360 (60 GB HD) since late 2009.  They are connected by Ethernet 100 Mbit/s via a 100 Mbps 3Com switch unmanaged and a Siemens ADSL gateway/router with a switch to 4 ports.  I use not media Extender functionality every day.  Its more like I use it for a week (after I have come back from vacation and want to see my photos and videos), so I use it for about 2-3 months.  Everything I do is press the green button on my remote to turn on the XBox and connect to Windows 7 Media Center.  I don't even bother to turn on my PC like the XBox, it wakes up for me (love it!)

I modified it used successfully in mid-December 2010, but when I tried to use it again on 28 Dec XBox stated that he could not find the Windows Media Center computer.  I ran the diagnostics of XBox with no luck.  The XBox can detect and connect to my laptop (also under Windows 7 and is connected via WiFi), but it does not detect my PC.

On my PC, the Extender both in the window "Devices and printers", in Media Center, presented with an exclamation icon and a message saying that the Extender is set up but can not be found.

The only thing I changed on my PC since the last time the Extender has worked:

    (1) I removed the password on my user account

    (2) I turned off password protected sharing

I noticed that some security updates have been implemented as well.

Even if my laptop (that the XBox can still detect) was already configured with no user password and no password protected sharing, I reversed manually these settings on my PC.  This did not help.

I tried an article that describes the removal of the certificate and add the Extender - no change.

I tried to disable the firewall of Windows (the only firewall installed on my computer) and Microsoft Security Essentials, as long as my agent for LogMeIn - no change.

Fortunately, I still had a restoration which dates back to the changed Extender worked, and restored at this point.  The Extender has worked once more... for a few weeks.  I thought that the problem would be back because I didn't really know what caused it in the first place.

When the problem is back, I read a lot of articles, including those on this forum.  Some suggest specific problems with Asus computers equipped with software installed at the factory, creating a problem, or fingerprint scanners or memberships of domain.  None of them apply to me.  My PC worked loyally with the XBox as I first put in place in late 2009.

So I went more drastic.  Two weeks ago, I rebuilt the PC from scratch.  I have not yet installed as much software as it was originally - just the basics like Office, Acrobat Reader, Picasa, iTunes, Java, Flash, Google Earth and LogMeIn...  Of course the Extender reworked... twice.  The next time I tried to use it, it wouldn't.

I tried several restore points - this time, none of them brought the feature.

Of course, thanks to all this the XBox can still detect my laptop which has also received updates from the Windows Update service (if only my laptop could host all of my pictures and videos...).  My laptop also has the same software, including the firewall of Windows, Microsoft Security Essentials, LogMeIn, etc...)

This makes me think of something on the Windows 7 PC is blocking incoming or outgoing (or both) types of communication to the XBox.  What kind of diagnostic tools could use to figure out what is the cause.  If I have to sniff the network, what I'm looking for?

I have reviewed the issue of abandonment and just buying a NAS that supports the XBox Media Extender, but:

    (a) none of the products in my price range offer the features AND performance, I want to

    (b) why should I have to?  He worked for nearly a year, and this feature must be a utility "solid."

    Thank you...

    Hi Umesh,

Thank you for you answer.  I had already read the article you recommended, but I saw her again (especially step 3) to ensure that I had done everything I could.  There is no recommendation in this article that applied to me, or had already been tried.

I took another look on my laptop that the 360 can detect and noticed that he was not part of a homegroup, but offered to join the homegroup organized by my Media Center PC.  I was surprised because before the reconstruction and after reconstruction, I don't remember setting up a homegroup.  Of course a homegroup has been partially install (he said my I had no libraries selected for sharing).

I left the homegroup, and this restored PC allows my Media Center to 'see' the XBox 360 media extender.  My problem is solved (for now).

  • How can I configure my Xbox 360 as an Extender?

How can I configure my Xbox 360 as an Extender?

If you have an Xbox 360 connected to a home network, you can use it as a Media Center Extender. It is an easy way to share your photos, music, videos and other media from your Windows 7 PC to your TV.

    1. turn on your computer and log on to Windows. Check that it is connected to your home network. (An easy way to do this is to open your web browser and navigate to a web page.)

    2. turn on your Xbox 360 and check that it is connected to your home network.

    3. on your computer, open Windows Media Center by clicking Start , allprograms, and then clicking Windows Media Center.

    4. on the Windows Media Center start screen, access tasks, click Add an Extenderand then follow the instructions.

    5. with the help of your controller Xbox 360 for go to My Xbox, and then select Windows Media Center.

6 on your TV, follow the instructions on the screen to get a 8-digit Windows Media Center configuration key. Note this 8-digit setup key. It is the key that you will use for your Xbox 360 to your computer that has Windows Media Center of affiliation.

You don't need to download any additional software because the Extender functionality is built into Windows Media Center.

    7. on your computer, on the screen to enter the "Setup" button in Media Center, enter the 8-digit setup key displayed by your Extender and then continue by following the instructions.
