USB.inf-

I'm trying to install a HP Photosmart D5360, installation gets so far and fails with the error message missing usb.inf My system runs on XP Home Edition, the computer was shipped with pre-installed XP, and so I don't have an installation CD.

How can I recover the USB.inf to allow the installation of the printer must be completed.

Thank you

Microsoft support engineers seem to assume that everyone has a genuine bootable CD to install XP with Service Pack 3 on it.

The fact is, that most of the people who seek help in MS Answers forums have never seen a genuine XP bootable installation CD in their lives and that he would not be able to get their hands on one.  It's extremely likely that "the manufacturer of your" will send you communicate with them, but which always seems to make the advice sooner or later.

MSE responses that have links to KB articles or other ideas that start with "insert the XP CD...." "usually don't go very far after that and someone else should step in and do the fixing/help.  It's a shame.

The usb.inf file is also not one of 3498 files that take care of the Windows File Protection, so there is no copy backup on your system.

I downloaded a copy of XP Pro SP3 file you need on my SkyDrive (everyone has a SkyDrive for file sharing).  I think it should be the same for XP Home SP3.

You can download it and when you do, put a copy of the file in this folder (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive):

c:\Windows\Inf

Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need here:

http://CID-6a7e789cab1d6f39.SkyDrive.live.com/redir.aspx?RESID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311

When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, it cannot save the file with an extension (for example, .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.  You do not want to use a file called usb when the name of the file should really be called usb.inf (if the downloaded file has no extension, you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to make it work.

You have to put the downloaded files in the correct folders on your system.

I don't know if that will solve your problem or not, but at least you will not absent from the file.

I can't install my hp photosmart c4280. I have an error that usb.nf file is missing in windows xp. I am running xp sp3 and MS Security Essentials can be removed as a threat or a virus. My printer wouldn't print and after troubleshooting it as the last resort to remove and try to reinstall the printer and then I started getting this error message. How can I solve this problem without reinstalling windows xp.

    Hello lcarter72,

Have you checked to see if the files still exist in a virus vault or anything?

We will try to launch a System File Checker to see if the file can be repaired or reinstalled.

Sfc/scannow will inspect all the important Windows files on your computer, including the Windows DLL files. If the System File Checker detects a problem with any of these protected files, it will replace it. Asked may to your CD if it is necessary to reinstall a file.

To run the scannow, follow these steps

    1. click on start

    2. click on run

    3. type CMD and press ok

    4. type sfc/scannow

Note: There is a space after sfc

The program will execute and check files damaged or missing, you you may be asked to insert your CD to reinstall the files.

This thread has also some additional information, but I wouldn't recommend no download and installation of system files on the internet and try to install them on your computer.

  • USB works in XP safe mode but not in "normal" mode.

    Hello

Something has trashed my usb connection because none of them work.  They worked a few days ago, but not now.  The USB ports work fine in XP safe mode, but I can't make them work under XP 'normal '.

I tried system restore to restore to when I know they worked (Saturday).  But the restoration said it cannot restore at this time there.  I drive four other date back (Thu, Fri, Thur, sea) and it woul don't restore of any of them.

I went to the HP web page for this computer.  They have no USB drivers, so I download the chipset and installed driver.  It does not work.

I tried to uninstall USB devices by using Device Manager.  Devide manager uninstalled, then I rebooted the machine and it reloaded automatically usb drivers.  But I can not use devices.

I tried Device Manager-> select your hardware-> right click-> properties-> tab driver-> update driver-> online search for the driver.

I tried to uninstall in safe mode, run usb.inf and then re-startup - which did not work.

I am current internet search for USB drivers for this computer.  But I still found nothing.

Anyone know where I can find USB drivers for the HP Pavilion a1515n or should I be looking for on google.  Currently, I'm looking Drivers USB a1514n.

I would like to reinstall the USB drives, but I can't find them.  Or some otherway to get USB devices working again.

    Thanks for any help.

    Dennis

    All,

    I got it to work!

I have not updated the driver for the USB hub.   However, I finally tried to update the driver for the USB EHCI controller.  Once I updated the driver for it, all the USB ports and the connected devices are recognized.

Life is good again.   It took me 5 hours to understand that I had to update a different device driver, but hey - at least it works!

  • missing windows usb apps

Hi, somehow in the latest updates, all the following elements is missing from my system.

    windows\inf\usb.inf

    windows\inf\ntprint.inf

    windows\inf\\usbprint.inf

    windows\inf\usbstor.inf

In my opinion, that's why my printer, well reinstalled, says my driver is missing.

    What to make or repair?

As Shalini says you can try to update the drivers. If this fails, you can try running SFC scan. Check the link for more information:

  • Peripheral USB fails to configure error: PnPDriverNotFound on several machines.

    * Original title: USB devices are more installation of drivers. PnPDriverNotFound on several machines.

I hope this is the right forum to post this. If this is not the case please let me know and I'll move it somewhere else. I looked for similar problems and found something like this, but none of them is exactly and none of the answers proposed or accepted worked for me.

I have at least two machines Windows 7 (64-bit Enterprise) (a desktop, a laptop computer) who have recently begun to show the same symptoms. Peripheral USB system is already aware of the job very well. New USB devices are detected, seem to be identified correctly (it shows me a correct device name in the Device Manager and the installation of new hardware window that appears when you plug in the appliance), but then Windows will try to find the drivers from Windows Update. It it for a minute or two, then search the preconfigured drivers and then fail. I ran into this with several webcams several keyboards, usb hubs, etc. I tried to manually install the drivers for these devices, which does not help. I tried to delete the Device Manager USB controllers and let redetect. I tried to update the drivers of USB controller. I tried boot to boot as well. Nothing seems to work, and the symptoms are the same on all machines. I have a machine where USB still work correctly, and the only difference is that the machine has not installed updates for awhile that I use often.

According to the USB peripheral event logs appear to properly detect/install until sometime after January of this year. The Application event logs show the error of UPnPDriverNotFound as follows:

    Bucket of error, type 0

    Event name: PnPDriverNotFound

and the system event logs show errors like this:

Driver management concluded the procedure to install the driver NULL for the Instance ID of device USB\VID_03F0 & PID_CF07\5 & 1CE28CC5 & 0 & 3 with the following status: 0xe0000203.

At this point, I am at a loss. A recent update corrupted something? Normally I would just say that my machine is foobar would, but the fact that it happens on several machines of different types, manufacturers, etc. at the same time is suspicious. Any help is greatly appreciated. I can provide the complete if necessary event logs.

Thanks for the suggestions, all, but I found the problem. Somehow C:\Windows\Inf\usb.inf and C:\Windows\Inf\usb. PNF were GONE on two machines having the issue. I don't know how, maybe a Windows Update failed, but copies these files into a machine that worked solved the problem.

    Thanks again!

  • USB ports don't work, help!

It all started when I followed the advice to uninstall usb ports because I wanted to put back front usb midi or usb keyboard. But Windows 7 64 bit not acknowledged on the back usb port, so I uninstalled usb ports and now system always tells me it can't find the driver for any usb ports 7. Now Win can not install any usb device and the keyboard or the mouse wireless, I also tried another mouse. In the work of bios mouse and keyboard.

Just don't tell me to install the new copy of Windows.

I tried really many solutions: remote connection I tried, again uninstall usb and install asus motherboard drivers, no luck.

Maybe is something deeper in the Windows system or is it something so simple?

    Help, please.

Yes, but I think it's good now, I knew it was something simple ridiculous, feeling so stupid now, I almost tried everything.

Seems I was missing USB.inf in the Windows inf folder, but it was just half task. When I tried again to install the USB drivers in Device Manager that I manually navigate to composite usb and usb root hub driver automatically generated list so before Windows search and found nothing. Everything works now, so happy, tried 24 hours to solve this problem and on the end it's always something simple :)

Thanks for trying to help, really appreciate it!

  • XPS One omitting 2710 USB devices

I've been solving this problem for several months without success. My system is a current XPS One 2710 BIOS Ver A12 with all device drivers. The system is running WIN 8.1 worm 6.3.9600 9600 build updated all Microsoft updates and patches.

Last year, I bought two external hard drives 1 to Seagate to use as a local backup (each disc contains different files). Both are USB 3.0 with appropriate cables which I plug into the rear USB ports on the XPS. When I start the Windows machine indicates all USB devices works (printer, scanner, both drives hard ext). Anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours, and sometimes longer, I hear the beep of the computer and in the lower left corner, a message appears saying a USB device has failed. (Printers and other devices are not affected and continue to work). I check in device for records manager and he tells me "unknown USB device (device descriptor request Failed)" here are the details about the failure:

Have you checked the power management tab for each hub USB root in Device Manager?

If the box: "allow the computer to turn off this device...". "is checked, acheck it and click OK. Repeat for all the USB root hubs, then restart. See if that helps.

  • Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 - driver not found

I have the latest version of the driver (Version 1.4) downloaded from the Microsoft Web site. The driver installs fine, but the headset always has a yellow icon in the Device Manager. Just to confirm that the helmet actually works, I tested it in a virtual machine running Windows 7 Ultimate and it picked up right away without me having to install the driver manually. I don't know why it does not work on my desktop.

Just a little history, I have not used this headset for a few months (maybe years). I used a regular 3.5 mm jack headset until it just broke today. This headset is a USB headset. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

I thought about it. It turns out that there are a few files that are necessary to enable the USB composite devices working properly (USB with audio and/or video devices). These files should be found in C:\Windows\inf. The list of files are:

    - usb.inf
    - usb.pnf
    -usbport.inf
    -usbport.pnf
    -usbprint.inf
    -usbprint.pnf
    -usbstor.inf
    -usbstor.pnf
    -usbvideo.inf
    -usbvideo.pnf

Missed me the first two which are in bold. I don't know how or why I was their lack, but I'm just happy that it's a simple solution. To retrieve these files, I got everything just them to a fresh install of Windows 7 on a virtual machine. You can probably catch them from another computer, you have in your House too.

  • Printer installation error (could not install the driver, error 28)

I just bought a new printer (Epson XP-204) and tried to install it on my laptop Dell XPS15 (running edition W7 home 64-bit).

After you have installed the software and drivers, I connected the printer to a USB port, Windows detects it and started to install the driver. After a few seconds, I got an error message telling me that it was an error and the driver could not be installed (error 28).
I managed to make the printer works by using its WiFi connectivity, but now, I found ALL my USB printers have disappeared and I can't use it anymore. Whenever I plug a printer into the USB port, I get the same message with error 28. What is happening on printers that worked very well until I tried to install the new Epson in the USB port.
I tried to restore the system to the State prior to the installation, but the system restore fails to complete and return an error message.
All my USB devices work ok (mouse, storage, debuggers, etc) the problem only occurs with the printers.
I tried to start in safe mode and remove all USB devices, but after mounting them again once the error occurs again.
I don't know what else to do (reinstallation of the operating system is not an option, and if I do, I swear I'll go to Linux).
