XPS One omitting 2710 USB devices
I've been solving this problem for several months without success. My system is a current XPS One 2710 BIOS Ver A12 with all device drivers. The system is running WIN 8.1 worm 6.3.9600 9600 build updated all Microsoft updates and patches.
Last year, I bought two external hard drives 1 to Seagate to use as a local backup (each disc contains different files). Both are USB 3.0 with appropriate cables which I plug into the rear USB ports on the XPS. When I start the Windows machine indicates all USB devices works (printer, scanner, both drives hard ext). Anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours, and sometimes longer, I hear the beep of the computer and in the lower left corner, a message appears saying a USB device has failed. (Printers and other devices are not affected and continue to work). I check in device for records manager and he tells me "unknown USB device (device descriptor request Failed)" here are the details about the failure:

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I ran out of ways to solve this problem.
Have you checked the power management tab for each hub USB root in Device Manager?
If the box: "allow the computer to turn off this device...". "is checked, acheck it and click OK. Repeat for all the USB root hubs, then restart. See if that helps.
It was reported that it is a Windows problem that can be "fixed" by editing the registry. You can google for this info and edit the registry at your own risk...

I hesitated to first click the icon (it does not last very long) thinking it could be a scam. Can someone help me? Thank you.

Hello Ann,.
If it is a laptop computer, shut down Windows and remove the battery and the power supply of the PC.
Wait a few minutes, and then reconnect the battery and start Windows.
Plugin your device to see if it works, without the hub.

I also tried to move the receiver to the other 2 ports USB w / still the same results.
Are there other downloads or solutions that will help w / this problem?
You can also try searching for devices strangers (with yellow symbols) in the Manager under the mouse devices and other pointing devices and other devices (if any). Right click and uninstall unknown devices. Then restart.
Also try the steps below to reset the power of USB:
(a) the laptop off, unplugged from the wall outlet.
(b) remove the battery for a few minutes, then reinstall it.
(c) then restart the laptop. -

Some time ago I had a huge problem with my computer (I think that my mother-in-law accidentally downloaded a virus) and I took it to a repair shop where they wiped out completely and replaced the hard drive. Since I got it back when I try to use my wireless mouse and plug the nano receiver he said 'one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Why he says this? And what can I do about it if anything? I already tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling, but that did not work because as soon as I plugged it it again once he says the same thing. So I don't know what is happening or how to fix it. Please help me!

Original title: usb malfunction
His salvation,
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.
- What are the troubleshooting steps you have tried so far?
- If it works much earlier? If so, did you do changes on the computer before this problem?
- What type of USB device you are using?
As you mentioned that the USB device does not work when plugged into a WinXP machine, it may be a problem with the device itself. In addition, the question may also arise if the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or damaged or if your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a device USB and Windows.
Therefore, I suggest you try the following methods (skip the ones that you already tried) and check if the problem persists.
Method 1:
Please try the fixit (s) provided below which will help you solve common problems associated with devices and USB ports.
- Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows
- Diagnose and automatically fix the Windows USB problems
If method 1 does not work, try Method 2.
Method 2:
Remove and reinstall all USB controllers.
- Open Manager devices by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click system and security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- In the list of the categories of equipment, locate and expand Bus USB controllers.
- Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
- Restart the computer and let the USB controllers get reinstalled.
- Plug in the removable USB device and test to make sure that the problem is solved.
If the problem persists, go to method 3.
Method 3:
This method will install the latest drivers from device to your USB device.
- Click the Start button, type Windows Update in the search box, and then click Windows Update in the results pane.
- Click find updates. When the scan finished, click optional review updates.
- Click the check box next to the update, and then click install updates.
- If you are prompted, read the license agreement, then click I agree.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install updates.
- If you are prompted, restart your computer.
More information: Update a hardware driver that is not working properly
If the device fails after updating the driver, you can try to roll back the driver with its previous version.
Restore a driver with its previous version
Hope this information is useful. If the problem still persists, please post back for further assistance, we will be happy to help you.

HP printer is offline and unresponsive, unable to close the error message.
Hello
It seems that the printer is always "registered" on the USB port. Go to hp.com, research of model of printer drivers and support tab. When he presents with the software for your version of Windows looking for the software to uninstall. It erases completely all vestiges of your printer from the system. You can then do a clean install of your printer.
Let me know if this helps you.

How devices connect and what devices are connected to the USB ports?
However, try this:Unplug ALL USB device.
Open the Device Manager.

Booklet - USB device not recognized error message
Hello
I have a workaround for this problem that occasionally occurs. It's just to reconnect the USB hub (as recommended by Windows). I was wondering if anyone knows why this happens and how to fix it. The error is: -.
"Unrecognized USB device. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize.
Roob (2 ports) USB hubs - unused Port, unknown device.
Recommendation: try to re-connect. If Windows does still not it, replace the device. "
I can't wait to hear back on your part.

It is always advantageous to mention which model you have exactly. Of course the external device is not correctly recognized. Check if there is a driver that must be installed before you can use it properly.

Satellite A100-289: after 5.1 Bios Update powerfault on usb device
Hey, I have trouble after you install the Bios Version 5.1 on a Satellite A100-289.
First: there is NO external USB device connected!
After the awakening of the laptop Sleepmode , I received a message in Windows XP the a power fault has been detected on one of the USB devices. A dialog box opens and I can "reset" the device. This only happens after that the laptop is awake in sleepmode, perhaps to Hibernate, but not when the laptop starts. It seems that everything works well, but this post makes me nervous.
Can someone tell me, what is going in this box?
What about Mirko
Hello
5.1 BIOS was designed for Vista but it should (or it works) also with XP!
However, you could try updating the BIOS with the other BIOS version that is operating system independent
or / and you can try to disable the power save option for USB ports in Device Manager.
