USB Thumb Drive (UHYBS-064GH) format/write protection fault

Hello

Hoping for help.

Bought a 64 b USB Thumb Drive (UHYBS-064GH), a private seller, but the point is brand new in packaging.

When I tried to copy files through him, he maxed out at comments 45Gig and seems to have caused a clerical error. I was able to remove the majority of the cases, however on 5gig of them would not remove (in that they seem to have removed, until you updated).

To counter this, I tried to "quick format", the drive (using Windows XP SP3), but the disc is write protected and I am unable to remove it.

Spoke to a friend who told me that I should try a low-level format, which tried & it seemed to work, however when I insert the USB system indicates that the drive is not formatted & I would like to format. When you click Yes, I get the error 'write protected '.

Was the question of the google machine & even tried to change registry settings, but also failed.

So I hope someone out there has a solution for me (which does not include a big hammer & some anger management)...?

Would it be possible that this USB drive is defective?
In my opinion, you should contact the merchant and must replace it with another.

Recently I bought a 32 GB usb flash drive. I used it ok until 3 days ago. Now, I get a message saying "write-protected". There is no switch on the device write protection. How to remove write protection.

    Hello

You can remove your usb flash drive write protection using the method below:
    a. open the start menu, in the search bar type regedit, and then press ENTER. This wil open the registry editor.
    b. navigate to the following location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
    Note:
If StorageDevicePolicies registry key does not exist, you must create it manually.
    c. highlight StorageDevicePolicies, and then create a new DWORD called WriteProtect (32-bit).
In the right window, double-click the registration key and set the value to 0 in the value of d.
Data area, and then press the OK button
    e. restart your computer and try to copy files to your USB drives.

    Important note:
Sometimes, this problem is due to two Windows that have been corrupted registry entries. To resolve this problem, you must use the registry editor to remove the damaged registry entries.
However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, proceed as in the KB Article:

  • v215b Flash Drive: v215b USB Flash Dirve got 16 GB write protected

    Hello

I have 16Gb USB Flash Drive v215b. That worked very well. But for the past two weeks he has begun to show the problem as I can't write large files and its not connect on a few systems. So I formatted and formatting went smooth. But the problem has not disappeared after formatting.

And yesterday he began to show that the drive is write-protected. I tried all the methods that are listed on the HP Forum such as changing the registry, a format of linux, formatting through cmd and all. But nothing helped me.

Please give me some help as soon as POSSIBLE.

Have you tried the Ufix II fix?

Download USB Driver Flash Format Tool (Ufix-II):
    http://www.PNY.com.tw/index.php?CLS=2&mode=download

You will need to have installed to extract the .rar of 7 - Zip. It is downloadable for free.

Extract the downloaded file "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" and run it.

    This usually fixes the problem.

    Hello

Have you tried to format your USB key, but instead to use NTFS you use FAT 32?

    Click on windows start orb
type cmd and do a right click and select run as administrator
    type diskpart
    disc type list
Select the drive that is your USB. For example, if your USB is no disc select 2 then type 2
    clean type
    type create partition primary
Type format fs = fat32 quick
    Type exit

Now see if it finally formatted your USB Flash drive

  • In ultimate windows 7, when I want to paste or create a file on USB, windows says: the disk is write protected. ?

in Window 7 Ultimate. When I want to create a file or paste a file copied to a USB port or flash memory, windows cannot perform this action and the message: the disk is write protected.but when I used the same USB Win XP, disc is OK and not write-protected.
I tried this question on several USB key, but the result was the same.
    anydody can help me?

    Hi Saleh2506,

You can try and remove the disc, remove the write protection (by reversing a tab on the disk), and then try again.

If you do not have the valve on the USB, try the following steps to resolve the problem:

    1. Click Start , type regedit.exe and press ENTER.

    2. navigate to the following location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrrentControlSet\Control

    3. control with the right mouse button and select new and key.

    4. call it as StorageDevicePolicies.

    5. click on StorageDevicePolicies and on the right pan right click and select new > DWORD and name it as WriteProtect.

6 double-click it and set its value to 0.

This will disable the write protection on USB/flash drives.

Restart your computer and check to see if that fixes the problem.

Important The above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Can copy a computer usb thumb drive "loss of property.

    Hello:

Try to copy files mp3 music from my computer (Windows Vista) on USB.  Some MP3 files, run clean and some have not.

    Loss of property:

The file has properties that can't be copied to the new location.

Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties.

    Any help, thanks

Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties.

Yes, you are safe.  An MP3 file without tips 'digital rights' has no particular "Properties".  Background: NTFS (the file system normally used for Windows operating systems) can store properties in other data stream for the file.  FAT32 and exFAT (file systems normally used for orders of USB thumb) cannot do.  As suggested by Jessen, you could format your key USB in NTFS, but which could also reduce its on-line time, and you are not supposed to remove NTFS devices without preparation.

If you have downloaded MP3 files on your hard disk on some Web site they have a property of the "internet zone", resulting in a request for confirmation if you want to open (= room) the file.  Once you authorized that the info box is removed.  You can also right click on the file, click Properties, and allow future access.  Or you can just copy the file FAT32 or exFAT without ownership of the area.

  • iTunes to USB Thumb Drive in the car game

    Good evening to all!

I don't see my specific problem are answered one of the many discussions on this subject.

Long and short of my problem is I am trying to copy my iTunes together (some 30 GB) library on a USB key in order to use it in the car and stop overpaying each year for a larger iPhone.

I know exactly what I need to copy - i.e. records specific album in iTunes Media / Music folder. This seems to be the only way it is displayed correctly on my car - with genres / artists / albums etc. Any other attempt to copy - or as a straight line and do drag on iTunes, which is a copy of the iTunes all folder Media does not and shows only a list of MP3s no sortable (30,000 of them).

The problem I have is that iTunes saves the Media folder by artist, then album (other than the folder of the complication) and there are more than 500 artists, which means that I have to drag and drop each individual album at the command of an inch of each individual artist record - which is something that I just can't bring myself to do.

Can anyone suggest a quick way to copy several subfolders or displays only records the album for me copy?

    Thank you very much

    I use this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/export-for-itunes/id880764359?mt=12

This will convert AAC files unprotected MP3 if necessary and export whatever you choose, keep a nice folder structure for the albums. It will also export playlists if the radio in your car permits.

I keep several 16 GB USB drives in the car with various sets of music that I swap in according to the mood.

It is not free, but for me, it was worth the money just to save me hours of work.

  • path is too deep message when copying files to the hard disk to usb thumb drive

am runnjing Windows professional xp and have recently begun to meet with messages saying 'Filename' path is too deep, trying to move files from my hard drive to a USB key. I realize there is a limit on the length of path, I think that 250 characters, but I'm no where near this limit. Move files with long length of path names and file with length of shortest path names are not.

It seems that less than 100K spreadsheets okay and spreadsheets more than 100K are not. I think my problem was with Open Office but I also struggle with the larger PDF files.

If I one of these "problem files", open ones I can't move or copy and try to save them on my drive of thimb, the system hangs for several minutes and sometimes tells me that I started recording order with an invalid character.

I see others have problems similar encounteres on several internet forums. Is the cause of this known? Is there a fix I can install to remove the problem?

    Try RichCopy.

  • Flashdrive USB 3.0 write protection error?

Good, then, one a few months ago I bought a new flash drive, a flashdrive Lexar 3.0 with 32 GBs. yesterday, I was copying a file to my flash drive, then he stopped at halfway with an error message. The error message:

I started to get a little scared, so, as usual, I looked online for help. Apparently, other people have had the same problem. I tried all methods I thought to use the command prompt to change the Windows registry. Yet, none of them worked again! My last choice was to format the flash drive. Then, I started trying to format it. Then, a familiar message box popped up: "the disk is write protected". (As seen above). I was confused; Why my flashdrive write protected? I looked everywhere for some kind of help. I couldn't find anything.

    Other notes:
-L' error does not come from my PC. I tried to use my sister's cell phone to get in shape, and he gave me the same error message.
-My flash drive is not a write protection option. (It could, but I could not be aware of it).
-J' tried various other programs to try to format.
-There is no virus on my PC or a flash drive.
-There are about 20 GB on the flash drive, so it is not complete.

-J' already tried using the registry.

I hope someone can help me, because I really don't want not to waste my money on another flash drive that will just give me the same error.

    Thank you once again!

What follows is the best source of info that I found for USB thumbdrive problems:

USB stick seems to be write-protected:

    1.
Check if the USB has a little swich for write protection.

    2.
Windows can write protect USB drives too. Check out the registry under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.
The value 'WriteProtect' should be absent or set to '0'.

    3.
Flash memory has a limited lifetime of about 100000 guaranteed write cycles. Most flash life much longer cells, but the cells that become defective must be replaced by reserve cells (defective block management). The flash controller handles this in the background. When all reserve cells are consumed, then the flash controller refuses all the write access. Then you can read your data and put the unit to recycling.
This can happen even the drive was never even almost completely filled because the flash controller spread access write on all physical blocks to make sure that all cells are worn (wear levelling) equally.
Unfortunately, USB flash drives have no standard mechanism to read their current state of health, as in hard disks. Therefore, always expect a USB flash drive to die at any time...

This version corrects the HP usb drives (actually made by PNY) who have the common problem in read-only (cannot write to the usb key, because he said as its read-only).

The USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II) shall be reported as the most successful of the two downloads patch.

  • Internal hard drive has all of a sudden the write Protection

    Hello

My internal hard drive has suddenly developed the write protection and has resisted each of my attempts to change this. I found issues related to external hard drives, but have not met a subject that bears on the disk system hard to develop this problem.

The last State of operational activities that are known:

My main hard drive read/write functions were fine the day before. The only things I did today were the usual activities like browsing the web, watching videos, etc.. The only thing I did of note has been download a Steam game, which required the U-Play from Ubisoft. I installed the game and U-Play, so the game went very well. Then I played another game of steam which does not need U-Play, then attempts to transfer files on a USB key.

Steps taken to solve the problem:

When you try to transfer files, warning "the disk is write protected" appears. I thought that it odd, as I had never met this caveat on this PC before. I discovered that all the files in the C drive have been suddenly write protected. My attempts to solve this problem include:

    • Deactivation of 'Read only' file level and folder settings. The settings app doesn't seem to be a problem, but the moving folder gave the warning and she returned to "read only".
    • What allows all permissions for the users and system Admins for drive C properties > Security (I found it odd that users have all permissions, when I clearly remember all the usual permissions enabled previously)
    • Reboot/boot scan running for drive C to properties error checking > tools > error checking, which reported no error.
    • Opened as administrator command prompt and entering 'diskpart', 'list volume', "select volume #', disk clear readonly attribute, readonly attributes volume clear." The clear drive has reported a failure, while the clear volume reported a success.

None of these steps have managed to solve the question of write protection. Might this problem be possibly related to the downloaded game, or the program U-Play from Ubisoft? Is there something that I missed? What can I do else? I have documents and files that have not been backed up, but I don't want to lose.

Thank you for reading, any help would be appreciated!

I'm really sorry for your time. The culprit is revealed to be the key USB is write-protected, not the drive internal (phew!). I guess I panicked a bit and don't think to test with another stick of memory, which transferred files very well. Problem solved, I'll just reformat the wobbly flash drive.

Thank you for sticking with it, even when I probably don't have too much sense, you have been very helpful and patient.

  • How can I disable 'write protect' on an external hard drive?

My external hard drive is suddenly now "write-protected", I don't, how do to UN - do, without reformatting everything, Ive looked at properties, etc.; It won't let me save it now.

    Jack

I've seen it before, here's a few things that can help:

    1. This can be caused by malware, are you sure that your machine is clean?

    2. connect your device, right click computer, click Manage > storage > disk management, then right click on the chart in drive to the device and select change drive letter, then change for a more near the end of the alphabet.

    3. change these registry keys, but create a system first, restore point just in case you have problems. Note that the keys do not necessarily exist, so do not create them as it is probably a different issue.

    3.1

Open a run window (Windows Logo key + R), type regedit, hit enter and in the left pane, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies, double click on WriteProtect and change the value to 0 (zero) data.

    3.2

Now, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\StorageDevicePolicies, double click on WriteProtect and change the value to 0 (zero) data.

    3.3

Finally, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\StorageDevicePolicies, double click on WriteProtect and change the value to 0 (zero) data.
