Use disk abnormality

The Windows 7 Explorer shows 123 GB of files and folders on drive C.  However, the total of all records on the subject comes to 37.6 GB.  Y at - it an explanation for that?  Is there anything I should do?

Probably it's because you're not looking at a hidden or system files.

Download TreeSize Free--> http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

To show all files, you must run the program with administrator privileges.

If the installation program does not create a Start Menu for 'TreeSize Free (Administrator)' entry, click normal TreeSize Free link, then select "Run as Administrator".

  • HP DV2700 - Vista using disks fails to make the preinstallation of office software

I'm trying to help my daughter long distance.

His laptop crashed and she didn't know why and impossible to restore using disks or F11.

She is more concerned about its data and had the drive removed and placed in an external USB enclosure to access its files later.

A new HARD disk has been placed and she began to do a restore from the disks, she did years back.

Everything went along and then at the level of the office, she said that it is on part 2 to preinstallation of software

and he gave him a warning that windows cannot complete the installation.

She restarted and got a screen that said Windows installation.

She tries again to the procedure.

While that's going on, can someone tell me what could be the problem?

One of the most common causes of this problem (that I've seen) is that most new hard drives sold today are Advanced Format that triggers Vista and Windows 7 recovery discs. If she can get a disk hard no AF, it should have better luck.

Sometimes, it works to prepare a new hard drive with the utility from Cyberlink cd first. Download and save the file. Once the download is complete, place a blank cd in your drive and click on the downloaded file to create a boot cd. Start with this cd and wait until you get a green check mark indicates the hard disk is ready. Remove the cd, insert the first disc of recovery and restart the laptop.

The Windows.old subfolder contains all of the files from a previous installation of Windows. If you copied all your personal data of the user subfolder of windows.old. Then, it is safe to delete.

  • When you use disk cleanup, drive D C and recovery should be included?

When you use disk cleanup should you clean disk (C) operating system, and the recovery disc D. Then on drive c must only choose th files that are already enabled as the downloaded programs files and temp. Internet files or you need to clean more options?

Do NOT run the cleaning or do anything at all on the recovery D: drive.   Do not add files, defragment, compress, chkdsk, or something else.  Let completely alone.

Insofar as what to remove NSB C:\ drive, this decision is entirely yours.  You can add or remove options as you seem, and that you feel able to make - do as much as you can in these settings.  More your cleaning, the more you'll be available and, in some cases, it can even run your computer to start, and stop faster.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Do I have to select delete using Disk Clean-Up to correct the winsxs problem of scanning.

I know this question was asked by many and I tried different patches. (File Checker system, the disk cleanup - but do not know what that should be deleted that it can fix) Do I have to select delete using Disk Clean-Up to correct the winsxs problem of scanning.

The only thing I'm wondering: what is the cause of the accident of the Winsxs folder while scanning?
As stated in other threads, winsxs folder causes the scan hangs any scanner is used. Is it because of the size of the folder? What is a particular problem in the folder?
The file it crashes on changes each time and that makes it more difficult to identify the exact problem.

If the problem is directly on the winsxs folder and not the compromised computer with virus, malware, etc... There will be a fix to it by Microsoft? Or if the problem is not related to the Microsoft Windows software?

I just want to be sure that the crash of the scanner is not due to viruses, software, malware or any other infection.

    Hello

No it resets just the Windows Components update, do not recharge updates.
See the information on the links. Just to make sure that other resources
as the registry are configured correctly to allow the update. It is '' possible. ''
that an update can be reapplied after running but this is rare and not
probably for more than a few. New click the link for more information.

Personally I have not use the clean tool component if the choice is
your. Run the reset and first of all to see these help.

    ===========================================================

    Windows component clean tool

The component of Windows Cleanup tool (COMPCLN.exe) allows you to delete the files that are archived after Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2 is applied. It also removes the files that were archived after Windows Vista SP1 has been applied, if they are on the system. Running this tool is optional.

Installation of service packs of Windows Vista increases the amount of disk space used by the operating system. This space is used to archive files so that the service pack can be uninstalled. As a general rule, you must run COMPCLN.exe if you want to recover this disk space after applying SP2, and you won't need to uninstall SP2. After you run this tool on an image, you cannot uninstall Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2.

This tool can be used online or offline.

    Option Description

    /? or /h

Displays this list of command-line options.

    cent: [chemin_repertoire_windows_hors_connexion]

Specifies the path to the Windows directory of the Windows partition in offline mode.

    / quiet

Runs in quiet mode. No console output is provided.

    / Hide

Hides all packages (service pack) that are cleaned.

    verbose/Verbose:

Provides additional diagnostic data in the log file.

    Important
Once completed, you will not be able to remove Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2 from the computer online or offline.

    I hope this helps.

  • Then use disk defragment, can you defrag more then one drive at a time.

Then use disk defragment, can you defrag more then one drive at a time.

The defragmentation occurs for all hard drives connected only.

You can open Disk Defragmenter, to start defragmentation. When the process is happening on a particular partition, you can stop it and she will continue with the next partition.
But the process cannot operate in parallel; He will perform a defrag each only.
  • Have I done something catastrophic after deleting permanently files using disk cleanup in Windows 8?

    * Original title: disk cleanup, Windows 8

With "Disk Cleanup" on my old XP you first identified what was not necessary, then clicked on OK and then click YES if you want to "perform these actions."

We recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.

Disk Cleanup is anything but after 'OK', you will be asked if you want to "permanently delete these files. Without thinking, it's that I did.

Now I'm in a panic. I remember only one of these files... ». Windows Defender' but there is others.   I did something catastrophic?

    I'm 77. It's my wife's PC. I will reach 80?

    Hello

Please do not panic. There are slight changes in Windows 8 compared to Windows XP.

  • datastore_name WARNING Datastore use disk

    Hi all

    We have a SSD data store that has the following warning;

    datastore_name WARNING Datastore use disk

the actual use (from OS) is less than the size of the data store, is there a way to reduce the size (used in real)?  is it still necessary or good practice?

If you want to recover the space your options are to use VMware converter or use sdelete inside the VM for the vMotion space and free storage to zero this vmdk in another store of data specifying the fine disc.
