Use of the nuances in Illustrator

Hi all

A few questions about a project logo, I'm working on: my client wants a picture of a balloon hot air, in stone, in its logo. He wants the stone to appear as a stone wall, i.e. several small stones in place to the wall. I know this is ridiculously complicated to a logo, but I want to have a go at it and see if it works - otherwise, I'll encourage them to simplify.

So, what I managed to do up to now, it is to place an image of a stone wall and use the trace function to convert into vectors. Then I dragged the image to the Swatches palette to create a new grade, after which I will fill in the part of the ball with the shade.

My first question: this will always be a vector image using this process?

My second question: is there a simpler way to achieve this?

My third question: does anyone know of a resource where I could find a free, simple vector image of stones or rocks?

Thanks in advance for any input provided.

Sam

My client wants a picture of a balloon hot air, in stone, in its logo.

First of all, tell your client: "Wow."_FITTED It is original. Never heard of Led Zepplin? Iron Butterfly? »

;-)

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

He wants the stone to appear as a stone wall, i.e. several small stones in place to the wall. I know this is ridiculously complicated to a logo, but I want to have a go at it and see if it works - otherwise, I'll encourage them to simplify.

Not really ridiculously complicated. Your work as a logo design is to simplify a concept visually.

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

So, what I managed to do up to now, it is to place an image of a stone wall and use the trace function to convert into vectors.

No way I'd do it for a logo. A good logo is brief, boiled down to its essence. not only in terms of design, but also by its construction. This makes it strong in all its possible uses. Automatic tracing is a last resort very amateur. No autotrace to create an original logo. Draw it correctly.

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

Then I did drag the image to the Swatches palette to create a new shade.

If you dragged the results of autotrace to the Swatches palette, you just create a shade of reason.

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

.. .after I'll fill in the part of the ToolTip with the color chart.

It will work if you go just for a very flat treatment, dimensionless (potentially annoying). In addition, however, you have specified Pierre, not brick. Who is the antithesis of a ground shade, who is just repeating the same graph.

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

My first question: this will always be a vector image using this process?

If the content that you used to set the Swatch template is only the vector illustrations, then Yes, the shade of ground resulting will be only the vector illustrations. When you use the autotrace feature, you have the choice to keep the original raster image. But once again; It is not advisable anyway, and I don't know why you want a pattern for this shade.

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

My second question: is there a simpler way to achieve this?

Do not "easy." Look for best practices. If you are going to draw an appropriate logo, you know how use a program like Illustrator. One of the possible ways to proceed would be:

1 draw a pattern of rocks, laid out like a rock wall, as purely vector line. Store as a symbol.

2 use the 3D effect to create the geometry of the surface of the ball (or one of its sections of gore). Map the symbol to the surface, using the invisible geometry option.

3. If you use several objects, 'assemble' look like the finished ball.

4. the result is NOT the final. It's just a 'sketch' to help you spread the compelling geometry. Use as something to draw manually. Do the work of art. Then make his ways as simple and clean as possible. (This involves knowing how to draw efficient, tidy paths.)

function() {return A.apply (null, [this] .concat ($A (arguments)))}

My third question: does anyone know of a resource where I could find a free, simple vector image of stones or rocks?

One of the main objectives of a logo is uniqueness. There is no way that your customer can really own its logo if it is built of clipart. A good logo has to be original.

    "I try to avoid cutting each line twice.  This is double the cost.

    I hear you. I was there for more than 30 years.

    There are very few single line fonts. And most of the people is the property of specific burning software (i.e. the TTF or OTF fonts). Apart from these burning programs, what had to happen is for a foundry of fonts specifically design a single font. And, from what I've heard of these smelters (for the last 30 + years), the market is too small. I'm not saying that they are correct, it's just that it is their perception.

    Good luck

    A pink box indicates that the font is not installed. This is a file that you have worked before, or is this a new file?

  • Swatches to Pantone which disappears when you use only the percentages of the swatch

    Hi I came across something that might be a bug in Illustrator CS6...

    Here's the thing... I did a drawing or model in the CS6 (colorspace) and have used several Pantone swatches.

    Some Pantone colors, I used only a percentage of the color, for example, the design consists of: 75% of Pantone 485 C, 32% of Pantone 1345 C and 100% Pantone 154 C.

    In the design process, I used several other colors Pantone, which are not used in the final design, but they are still in the tab/list of Swatch.

    For example, when you click on the triangle (top-right) > "Select" is not used all the.., Pantone colors which are used only as percentages (Pantone 485 C & Pantone 1345 C in the example) are chosen as "Unused" ?

    I've been using Ai CS4 prior to this version, and in this version, it wasn't a problem.

    I could you the percentages of Pantone colors without the shade chosen as 'Unused'.

    I don't really want to manual remove every unused nuance by dragging it in the trash.

    It would be such a time waste handling.

    It's really annoying that I work for a printing and design company, and the need to save the Pantone colors that are used in the design, even if they are only a percentage of the Pantone color chart.

    Could someone please explain me why or what the reason is that this is happening...

    I missed something?

    Thank you!

    When you created the hue of the color Pantone you did that made a shade? Or did you just leave it as it was?

    If you don't have whereas they should stay, but if you just changed the tint but did not save it as a sample then the pms color is no longer used because it is a specific hue. At least that's how it seems to work.

    I agree with you that you always use the PMS color and have to stay without the need for nuance, even if it a shade of each color is a good idea.

    I would say it is a bug and should be reported as such. Cn do you here:

  • The help of Illustrator to design a large mural

    Hello

    I use Illustrator to design a large fresco, which is printed on the vinyl and stuck to the wall.

    The mural is 2.4 m high and 8 m wide (I'm working on the file in Illustrator at the 10% level). It includes many elements individual raster (.psd files as they need transparent backgrounds), which have been analyzed and placed in the file as linked files. These are repeated and individual scaling.

    The problem I have is that the size of the file becomes quickly if large as Illustrator even often fails to load the file when I double-click on it from my file Explorer, and it is very difficult to work with. I had the time this when designing the mural by having two copies of each file raster; a low and high resolution, but it does not get around the fact that, at some point, I will need to send the file to the printer at full resolution.

    I hope that all makes sense!

    Does anyone know how I can work on a file of this size without my computer grinding stop?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thank you very much.

    Design version low resolution. Make 2 or 3 parts in single files and make the version high resolution.

    At least that's what I'd do.

    Edit: and discuss with people in print.

  • On the nuances of inks mixed.

    Hello!

    I was wondering two things:

    01_ How to work the nuances of inks mixed in real life (in offset printing)? Let's say I made a shade of ink mixed with 2 Pantone colors. Printer pre-mix 2 Pantone colors before printing, or 2 Pantone color overprint on the press (according to the percentages of each Pantone color)?

    02_ Can I make a shade of ink mixed in Illustrator? If so, how?

    Thank you!

    Mixed inks are made with overprint (turn on separations preview to see it).

  • Is there a way to reset the parameters of an inner glow effect changed the default settings, Illustrator CC 2015?

    Is there a way to reset the parameters of an inner glow effect changed the default settings, Illustrator CC 2015? Every time I have to create and apply settings for an effect Illustrator crashes on them the next time I want to create a new effect. Can I reset their value by default without quitting smoking and redtarting the program?

    Thank you

    DC

    I don't know. Best thing to do is to click on the effect in the appearance Panel, and then change the numbers 75% &.07 inches.

    I really recommend to avoid using an inner glow altogether. You have more control and creative options by adding a line and a Gaussian blur and using the appearance Panel. You also does not slow down your computer like by stacking of multiple instances of internal flow for example a brighter glow.

    If you still wish to continue to use the inner glow, you can make a few graphic styles and add to your library to quickly switch your inner glow settings.
