  A copy of the full license of Windows 7 would be transferable to a computer without an operating system until it has been completely removed from the first.

  I highly recommend that you buy a copy of the full license since you think you might buy a personal computer.

  The upgrade copy would not be transferable to a new computer unless the new computer already had a copy of installed Windows on what qualifies for an upgrade to Windows 7.

  My Gateway PC crashed and I tried to restore with the Windows 7 Upgrade dvd and it did load up and installed and then stop to restart. Once it restarted, the screen works reconfiguration and became black.   If you have compatible hardware and your computer still stops responding, disable any unnecessary material. Remove (USB) universal serial bus devices. Remove or disable network cards, sound cards and cards of the series; and then restart the installation.

  Provided the specifications of the computer meets Windows XP you can switch from 2000 to XP. If it does not meet the specifications, you may upgrade the computer first or get a new one which is more cheaper today.

I would upgrade as detailed instructions on how I would do a new installation using the Windows 7. This is important because I don't want to create a nightmarish experience of backup, install the original operating system, install the upgrade, etc. etc. etc.

  I think that you bought the right product. Updates at any time are for the upgrade edition of Windows 7 to a more expensive edition. This isn't what you need to upgrade a Vista system to Windows 7. While Vista upgrades are no longer available from the Microsoft Store.

  You can use a Full Windows 7 or upgrade disk to do a custom clean install. This will remove all of your programs, but you can save your files and settings on an external storage before doing so. You will need to reinstall all your programs after installing Windows 7. Here are the steps:

  1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known problems that might affect installation and if you can install the 32-bit or the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
