UserKey.PSW

As recommended, I generated a "userkey.psw" for my laptop Compaq W7/64.

Now, the file is stored in the root of a USB key.

The problem is that I was not able to find out in what circumstances it is used and how to go about its use.

Hello

See the guide on the following link this topic - How to use this to reset your password is to half way down, the sub-section "reset your password".

I am currently free teaching myself to take the CompTIA exam has + and recently read the password reset disk, which can be used to reset a password, if you forgot your password.

What I was asking is whether or not the userkey.psw is universal, or if that's stored locally, encryption can only be used on the system that created it. I only ask, because it is easier for me to carry around my USB technician who is 32 GB with that there, to help someone if they got locked out of their computers, then to carry a CD with something like Ophcrack.

  • When should I userkey.psw?

When I was installing my new computer with Windows 7, I made a file 'userkey.psw '.  Now, I don't remember when or how I have to use this file.  Why do I need?

You did this to control panel, user accounts when you created your user account.  You made a password reset disk.

For its use, see the Windows Help and a guide for the recovery of lost passwords or other defects preventing log on Windows 7 Home Premium

  • Windows password recovery disk

I just created my windows password recovery disk in a usb flash drive. A file was generated "userkey.psw". What happens if I save the file somewhere safe and remove the file in the flash player. Later, it will work if I have forgotten my windows password?

    Help, please...

Yes, you can do what you want.  The important thing to remember is that you must place the userkey.psw back in the folder root of any external hard drive in order to to use.  You can move back in position using another computer if necessary.  Where keep you so far is entirely to you.

Consider writing the password in a safe place instead.  A disc of rest password does not reach anything other than writing that can get the password down.

  • A password reset disk need several computers.

I'm working with dozens of different computers, ranging from 3 to 12 units per customer. It would be quite tedious to maintain a separate for each computer, USB drive and using the same passwords between computers is uncertain and unacceptable in all of customers.  I don't have the luxury of a domain.  Each computer is autonomous and must have a different password.  Is there a way to combine multiple disks into a single reset?  Or add a computer to an existing one?  For those who must use a large number of passwords on multiple systems, it would be a valuable tool.

I guess that you are referring to the passwords for administrator accounts you have on each computer to do your work.

You can simply use an external drive such as a USB key for the entire collection.

1 create the first 'password reset disk' then create a folder with a name that identifies the user account, PC & OS [and possibly customer], then move the file userkey.psw from the root of the drive in this folder.  You can then repeat the process on the same external drive for each user account, the OS & PC you need.

    2. If you need to reset your password to admin on a PC, simply move the file userkey.psw relevant back in the root of the external drive.  The PC will then detect that one and that one only.

  • How does a sparekey?

I have a friend who could not connect on Windows 7 Home Premium with its password.  She had not created a password reset disk (PRD) to enable him to get into Windows and reset his password.  Fortunately, some time later, she was able to connect with its original password.  At that time, she decided to change her password to a weak password 4 letter to another more powerful and create a DRP at the same time.  With good intentions, I thought it would be a good idea to create a PRD before changing his or her password after connecting with his original password in case she encountered a problem to login with the new password stronger.  We have conducted on a USB key.  She then changed her password and confirmed that she was able to login with the new password.  I formatted the drive to boost thinking that would erase the original data of the PRD and we could then proceed to create a new RDP for the new password.  We went back to the page of user account with the format USB inserted and clicked on create a password reset disk.  A message came up saying something like: "you have already created a reset disk and continue will make the drive to reset obsolete original.»  I'm sorry to be so wordy, but the bottom line question is, "what is written on the thumb drive when you make a password reset disk" that Windows says must be done only once regardless of the number of times that you change the password.  I guess that the password is not written on the USB, but my problem more complicated, that's why the formatting procedure erases everything on the USB.  In other words, how Windows recognized that you had already created a reset disk?  Last question, should have we answered the question if we wanted to continue, "Yes" making the original disc to reset obsolete.  I am so confused on the issue of the password reset disk, as you can easily.

Thanks to anyone who can provide me with some enlightening information on this issue.

    ATB, Donald Bartel

The message warns you that making a new PRD makes all of a previous invalid.  Yes, you can go ahead and make a new [and you have no choice because you have deleted an old - layout of the USB it erased].

Creating a PRD actually just creates a file named userkey.psw on your USB.

Reformat the USB has removed userkey.psw, but Windows always knows he created first a - formatting the USB does not erase the memory of Windows.

As you know, you don't need to make a new RDP when you change the password.  Once is enough.  But you can choose to do an If you want [and must this time simply because you erased the last of them].

When you come to use a PRD for real [because you have forgotten a password], you will find that only the last of them to predict that the user [on this computer, this installation of Windows] will work.  All others will be rejected.

You seem to be running Firefox in permanent private browsing mode: browser.privatebrowsing.autostart: True and you cannot save new passwords in PB mode.

Make sure that you are not Firefox running in permanent private browsing mode (don't remember history).

    • Tools > Options > privacy > Firefox will be: "use the custom settings for history".

It doesn't have a VPN service. It doesn't have a VPN server. You make a connection to the VPN client to the WRT54G.

  • Help with Win32/PSW. Lineage.DN PWS-Lineage virus.

On my laptop Windows 7 action center has identified that I have "Win32/PSW. Lineage.DN / PWS-Lineage virus'. McAfee, Microsoft, scanning, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware can't find it. He turned off Windows Security Center and restores any thing relative security even in Safe Mode. Also explore a little weird and often redirects to ebay or thealltimes.com. According to McAfee, I need to get rid of the thing, then reinstall the whole lot. But nothing seems to be able to find it.

    Someone at - it ideas?
    Please, I beg you.

After much searching I finally found a .dll hiding in one of the AppData folders (I think it was roaming) with a random collection of letters for a name. Removed that and things seem to have settled again. The file was not visible via windows Explorer, even with active hidden files/folders. I could see it via the high intake of this. No other program that I used to scan seems to detect anything.

    I won't say it's gone, but it's promising.

  • Trojan in Toshiba Configfree

    Hello

AVG has just reported a Trojan horse (PSW. Generic4.Jow) to Toshiba Configfree (c:\windows\cfdemo.scr). I gather from look elsewhere this might be a false positive.
Can anyone confirm this or otherwise, please?

    Dear George

I think your antivir application shows this alert box, but Toshiba has designed tools and utilities certainly are not dangerous for the system. These files contain hundreds of thousands of laptops and everything works OK.

Try running another application of antivir and nothing will be displayed.
