using a NVidia GTX770 with XW8600 workstation

Hi all

I try to use an ASUS GTX770 (GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5) with my XW8600 workstation. Unfortunately, the card is not being recognized. She appears as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" in Windows 7 64 bit and NVidia drivers fail to install. Multiple monitors are not recognized, even if they show the office.

I use two X 5450, 3 ghz processors and 22 GB of ram, but I don't think there is a problem with the power, as I have not had any indication of this.

My dual monitor Setup shows the same image at the same time permanently on the POST screen, even during navigation of BIOS, which suggests that there is incompatibility of firmware/BIOS. I read that some 770 cards have trouble with older boards due to differences in the implementation of the PCIE standard, and that it would be possible to move by setting the BIOS mode "PCI legacy." but I can't work on what it is, or if it applys, the BIOS XW8600.

I sent a message to ASUS for help, but I hope someone can help me find a way to get the system to recognize the card.

Thanks in advance,

George

After having tried the card on another machine, I discovered it was a mislabeled Radeon HD7800 (which was printed on the label of nvidia card)

Moral of the story: be careful on eBay.

Thanks for listening.

    Hello

Counter question: why you want to use any other display drivers? Are not satisfied with the drivers of Toshiba or can you notice problems in Windows?

Theoretically, it is possible to use the nVidia drivers directly but don t forget that they are not pre-tested on your laptop. Your graphics card could be overheating and so you lose the warranty.

Satellite P500 is fairly new, so I guess that Toshiba updates the display driver in next time too. Take a look at the page from time to time. ;)

  • How to use card NVIDIA on the Satellite P875-321?

    Hello

I have a Satellite P875-321 with operating system factory upgraded to Windows 8.1, all the latest drivers installed.
Whatever I do, it seems built in graphics card is used only (Intel HD 4000) and the Nvidia GT640M is never used.

    I check this:
    1. with the NVIDIA Control Panel (PhysX configuration shows that all screens are connected to the Intel HD 4000
    2. in resolution 8.1 windows settings / special settings lead me to the Intel HD 4000 properties, which indicates that this card is active

    What I tried:
1 leaving everything default and use the external power supply (hoping that the computer automatically switch to NVIDIA when the external power
    2. use control panel NVIDIA and NVIDIA 3D as favorite graphics card settings

How can I force my laptop to use a NVIDIA graphics card?

    Thank you
    Janos

    Hello

The Intel graphics chip, which is part of the central unit should be used for low performance applications, because it allows you to save energy and reduce the internal temperature.

But to get best performance all in game, it s advisable to use the external GPU (nVidia or AMD)
This setting can be changed in the nVidia control panel s

Here, you should choose manage them 3D settings (can be found on the left in the nVidia control panel)

Now in the main window, you will find two global settings and program parameters tabs
In the program settings tab, select the (game) program that needs to use the nVIdia GPU

If it is not listed, click the Add button
Then choose the graphic processor preferred for this program (generally must be nVidia processor high performance)

Last but no less, in this program-specific settings, you can assign additional features to improve performance.

  • Not possible to use the Nvidia GPU both graphics primary source all the time?

I went through the manual and the tips of help from Lenovo and it seems that it is not possible to use the NVIDIA GeForce 840 M, 2 GB as the exclusive GPU card.

The only control that I can find is one in the Panel of 3D graphics and if I read this correctly it assigns that Nvidia will be used when require it strong application processes (I'm guessing games play?) but for activities such as photo editing, it is up to the intel sur-bard chip

To force an application to use your NVIDIA graphics card, right click on its shortcut (or an .exe file), point on run with graphics processor and select the NVIDIA processor high performance.

    Hello:

You can also ask your question on the Forum to Support HP Business - xw workstations section.

    http://h30499.www3.HP.com/T5/workstations-z-series-XW-series/BD-p/BSC-272#.UryLq-l3u9I

The main reason for this error is due to Windows do not have the SATA drivers needed to properly install the operating system on the hard drive.

You can try this first before posting on the Forum of Business Support.

Unzip the files I've attached at the bottom of this post (underneath where it says attachments).

Then copy them to a usb without all the files flash drive.

With the flash player and the installation of W7 media connected to the computer, boot from the installation of W7 media.

After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and should install W7.

  • Very slow network with 10 Workstation and Windows 8 / 8.1 Windows

    Hello

I come to you because I have a problem with the network with 10 Workstation and Windows 8 / 8.1

In fact, if I copy files from or to a virtual machine with my host of Windows 8 by sharing Windows (SMB / CIFS), it is very very slow and unusable.

Example: My host is a Windows 8 x 64 and Windows 8 x 64 host: transfer speed is about 100 or 200 KB/s and often 0 KB/s (transfer seems to be paused).

With a guest Windows 8.1, same problem.

After many tests, I also tried with Windows PE 5 (same kernel as Windows 8.1): same problem, unusable.

But, miracle, if I use "Utility MSI - X OFF" Intel, I reboot and the problem disappears.

    There:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng & DwnldID = 18946

Someone in this community, said that it have the same problem and a workaround solution was not to use Intel e1000e but e1000 then: I must admit, it works.

With e1000, speed is around 30 to 60 MB/s and stable.

But, by default, 10 Workstation e1000e value when I create a new VM Windows 8.1, so it's a problem... Do not manually change for each new virtual machine and explain this to my students.

Please, you can reproduce this bug and fix it?

    Thank you very much.

New workstation 10.0.2 fixed this bug. Perfect.

  • Problem with VMWare Workstation combo, .vhd virtual drives and physical disks in the sector of size 4K?

    All,

I suspect something wrong with some of my virtual machines.  I have been using these virtual machines for a while, and I see some weird behaviour recently.

I see a lot of corruption in the virtual hard disk (.vhd based).  CHKDSK automatically gets performed many large files such as Oracle datafiles get damaged etc...  It all seems quite random and inconsistent, but I am using .vhd virtual machines in VMWare Workstation for years without problem.  This problem is new, and hard drives are basically unstable.

I * think * (and I'm totally off base) that is perhaps the issue with my new external hard drives.  These discs have a 4 KB sector size, without e512.  Thanks to this architecture of hard drive, don't mount not the tools of Microsoft or manupulate .vhd files on these disks.  The questions seem to go away if I switch to vmdk or switch to the physical hard disk size-one-sector 512kb.  Because errors are not compliant, that I don't really have a way to document/prove that is the case, but it seems to be.

I use version 9.0.0 on Windows 7 Workstation, and the guest is Windows Server 2008R2.

    My question is:

    (1) what meaning?

    (2) how I prove/document, since it is a contradiction?

    (3) is this a known problem?

(Btw, switching HDD's vmdk is not an option in our case due to an obscure legal agreement with Microsoft.  I have to distribute my VMs in vhd format, even if they are designed to run on VMWare...)

    -> Adam

These discs have a 4 KB sector size, without e512.

(I've highlighted "without e512" in "BOLD" to key in my answer to the host operating system.)

    -L'OS is Windows 7 Enterprise

According to the political support for the 4 K sector hard drives in Windows, Windows 7 does not support the native 4 K (logical 4 k sector size) but it does not support Advanced Format or 512th (size of logical sector physical and 512 bytes of 4 K) and that is can be the question.

  • Workstation 9 - broken PXE boot - works with 8 workstations

VMware Workstation 9 newly released, the PXE boot is broken. It works on the same machine with VMware Workstation 8.

    Virtual machine specifications:

    -Windows 7 and Windows 7 x 64

    -Bridged networking

    -2 1 processor cores

I tried on different hardware, without Windows Firewall, but the PXE boot is broken when you use Workstation 9. Any thoughts as to why her behave this way?

We are trying to perform a PXE boot and it gets everything stuck by sending requests for the services of pre-launch on the remote server, however, it seems that the return packets are not received. On 8 workstations, these are received and PXE boot works correctly.

There is no AV installed in the host operating system.

Wow, okay, just confirmed this seems to be a MAJOR bug in the work station 9, concerning ONLY to run 2 hearts or 2 CPUs. I tested with my cell phone would support all configurations (this is a quad core with hyperthreading). This applies in my case to Novell Zenworks Imaging, but can affect more.

    Results
    Config PXE
    1 processor, 1 core Success
1 CPU, Core 2 In case of failure
    1 CPU Core 3 Success
    1 CPU, Core 4 Success
    1 CPU, Core 6 Success
    1 CPU, Core 8 Success
2 CPU, 1 core In case of failure
    2 CPU, Core 2 Success
    2 CPU, Core 3 Success
    2 CPU, Core 4 Success
    4 CPU, 1 core Success
    4 CPU, Core 2 Success
    8 CPU, 1 core Success

Now here it gets crazy. My issue seems to be with the v11.2.0.0 of the Agent Novell PXE (Preboot Execution). It says "Sending queries to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" then he received never actually do anything to continue the boot process, but ANY other config except 2 CPU or 2 cores CPU works fine.

  • Disadvantages with VMware Workstation (7) running on a server rack Xeon?

    Hello

We intend to run VMware Workstation on my company (7) on a server rack Xeon based (the next generation of Xeon, i.e. Beckton/Nehalem-EX, with 8 cores, planned in the 1st quarter of 2010), and then access all of these virtual machine guests (based on Windows, both the server and desktop kind/flavor) by separate remote desktop connections direct to them.

I had a very hard time, trying to find out if there is (large or small) disadvantages with this approach?

We do not want to use Vmware Server for this, because its characteristics (for example with respect to snapshots) are lower than those of VMware Workstation, and nor do we want to use ESXi, because we always want to run Windows as a host on the server operating system.

Is VMware Workstation our best choice then, and there will be no significant disadvantage? I think it's as if there is a missing in the VMware portfolio, product i.e. namely I miss a server product with all the features of VMware Workstation, which still runs on a different host OS, what am I?

In any case, again, the main question is:

This plan of ours is stupid, and in this case how should we best solve it? Is there really an advantage by using VMware Server instead of VMware Workstation in this situation and in this case more exactly what?

Any input or answers will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

VMware Workstation on a good Windows installation will do you fine.

Ideal if you conclude that the MS-host in this day you don't need no matter what Antivirus or firewall.

Then such a facility will do what you expect.

I wouldn't consider VMserver - workstation surpasses VMserver my experience

  • Can I use your Apple TV with MacBook Air

I use a MacBook Air, 13-inch, mid 2013, OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. I am interested in Apple TV. With this product I was able to connect my Epson EB - S18 projector to my Mac in order to project movies that I bought on iTunes on my wall of the apartment? Would be there is always a problem to play these movies 'protected' outside the computer itself? Must they be downloaded in SD and not HD? Can I use a patch to connect my Mac to the Thunderbolt port to the projector via the HDMI port? Can I use a patch to connect the VGA cable to the port on the computer to the projector? Please notify.

    Thank you very much.

Can I use your Apple TV with MacBook Air

Yes! AirPlay with an AppleTV is the easiest to use and less complicated solution.

SD / HD makes no difference.

You will only be able to enjoy the full quality of an HD movie with a better projector however. This model projector is not really intended for presentation of home theater. It will work well. As you can imagine that there is no upper limit on the amount, you can overlook these things, but $2000 is going to buy a nice home theater projector these days. A few years ago, you would need to spend $ 50,000 or more.

Would be there is always a problem to play these movies 'protected' outside the computer itself?

No, not if you bought (or leased) from iTunes. They have to play on any device compatible iTunes. You can even use AirPlay to distribute it to your AppleTV from an iPhone.

Can I use a patch to connect my Mac to the Thunderbolt port to the projector via the HDMI port?

    Yes.

Can I use a patch to connect the VGA cable to the port on the computer to the projector?

Not without a converter. Avoid using the VGA if possible. It's a terribly outdated and generally horrible alternative to any digital standard. Since your MBA has a port Thunderbolt, and if your projector has a HDMI input, buy a cheap (± $10) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter cable. But AirPlay is preferable to a wired connection.
