Using an iMac 2011 a second monitor for 5 k imac

I have an iMac mid 2011 and an end 2015 k5 iMac.

I know the 5 k cannot be used as an external display, but could I use it as the host machine and the iMac 2011 medium as the display.

I tried with a thunderbolt and command F2 and fn-F2 control cable, but nothing works.

Any help or advice appreciated.

I don't think that target display mode works both ways with an iMac k 5.

  • HP G60-549DX: use Smart TV as a Second monitor wireless

Help a friend tries to use Smart TV as a second monitor.  Laptop can't find the TV - both are saved on the network wireless with MAC addresses.  I downloaded and installed the 5 recommended on the site of HP - drivers did not help.  Is it possible to do what the laptop is configured now?  If this isn't the case, upgrading Windows 10 would do the trick?

Some SMART TVs equipped of a receiver widi or miracast built in. My LG does, for example. Upgrade to Windows 10 fair changes how you set up the cast he adds the capabilities of the wireless card. I note the laptop listed in your message seems to have a dual processor Pentium and I thought excluded Intel WiDi. If I understand correctly, you have sunk your laptop but have never been able to cast of older HP laptop of your friend. Chances are that this laptop is not capable of casting.

There are inexpensive options of google (Chromecast) and amazon for wireless dongles that plug into the TVs HDMI port and can accept the casting of any wireless device.

  • Use the TV as a second monitor wireless

I have Window vista premimum can set up a wireless connection between my computer and the television, I want to be able to use the TV as a second monitor or to be able to look at what's on TV on my computer and visa versa?

    Hello

    (1) your subject line has nothing to do with your question. If you have the glass effects, then Aero is running. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-is-Windows-Aero

    (2) you cannot configure a wireless connection to your TV as a monitor, it must be physically connected to an external monitor to your computer connection.

    (3) you can't watch TV on your computer unless you have the correct tuner added on or integrated to the system card.

Please try to limit your problems to one topic per message with the subject that corresponds to the question. Different users with different types of expertise can then address all your problems. • Can I use my imac 27 inches (mid 2011) as a second monitor for my new imac 27-inch 5K?

Simple enough... I just want to know if my old imac can still be used as a second screen to my new imac 27-inch 5K.

    Hi nomad2224,.

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

Whether or not you can use your old iMac as secondary screen for your new iMac (known as the target Display Mode) will depend on the model. You can find information and the steps in the following article useful:

  • Pull down menus, including bookmarks, become invisible when you use with firefox on a second monitor.

All the drop down menus, including bookmarks, cut & paste and main menu of Firefox button, make invisible most of the time all in assets and using Firefox on my second monitor. It works normally on my primary monitor. The menus go invisible and any passage of the mouse to select an entry, they become visible for a split second and then distributed invisible. This makes it needless to say, by selecting the correct menu very difficult entry. It started to happening after the passage from Win XP to Win 7 with Firefox 5 and now still comes with 6. I have also put Firefox on my second monitor (Win 7) at home with no problems (version 5).

  • Can you recommend a second monitor for Photoshop?

I currently run Photoshop CC (2015) and Lightroom CC (2015) on a Windows 7 PC connected to a monitor 24 '' single calibrated.  I thinking about moving to a dual display configuration and your recommendation in regard to the monitor type and size are concerned.  I would use the screen 24 "for the image and the second for tool palettes.   I don't have a huge amount of space on my desk, so size is a factor.  How small is too small and what size would be an exaggeration?

Also, are there any problems with Lightroom in a double display setup?  The main screen can be used for the grid and Loupe view?

I can't speak for LR, but I think most of the regular posters on this forum use at least two screens.  Also have more space to display your image, it is extremely effective to have your main panels always open.  You can stroke a path with a simple mouse click, record a path by dragging the icon of the new path and do much the same thing with the channels.  You have the place to set all thumbnails of Large Panel makes it easier to see the contents of a layer in a blink of an eye, and you can make room for more long layer names.

I note that say you that you don't have much space, then have you considered using the second monitor in portrait mode?  It is very easy with Windows 7 and 8.1.  What I would say is seeking a 16:10 screen and probably with a resolution of 1920 x 1200.  You would find that tightening three columns panels in a widescreen 1080 does not work well if you go with portrait mode.

Regarding the size, I use three screens now, with a 30-inch 1920 x 1200 main screen and two 1920 x 1200 in portrait mode, one or the other side.  I'm sorry, I don't have a dual monitor workspace to show you (I lost him in a recent system crash) but this is my work space triple screen.  Click to see full size and spent in Photoshop to have a correct idea of the layout.  Note I like to keep things like character, source of duplication etc. near the image, but with a simple click on the active icon / disables open them and click on another farm.

With respect to the screens, personally, I have a LG, HP and Dell, and I definitely prefer the HP.  It is brighter, clearer and whiter.

Ex forum regular Christmas Carboni has a sharper screen presentation of the three.

Thing to note is that I sometimes plug my Cintiq 2 companion in this set upwards.  The CC2 has a widescreen 2500 pixels, which meant that he would not slot nicely with the other three screens.  I discovered that if I placed the CC2 below other screens so that the a gap between it and the main screen, the cursor of may not cross this gap and is trapped in the three first screens or CC2.  Reducing the resolution CC2 1920 x 1080 solved this problem, and I can see what is on the tiny screen of 13 inches to this resolution as well.

  • Using a laptop as a second monitor?

I bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 17120) and want to add a second monitor (between the two desktop sharing).  Is it possible to use my old laptop (Dell Inspiron 8600) as the additional monitor?  I have the cable and they are connected to each other and they say that they recognize the new monitor, but I can't get that to extend the desktop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if it's to say that there is no way that the laptop can act as an additional monitor.  Thank you

No, this is not possible.  There is no video input on your laptop so that it can be used in this way.

  • hang the second monitor for slimline t3600

    Hello

I am trying to connect the second monitor and upgrade to 3 GB RAM to 4 GB.

Please let me know what King of the video card and the RAM will be I need?

    Thank you

Here are the details of my pc.

    HP Pavilion Slimline s3600t PC
    -Genuine Windows 7
-Processor of Intel (r) Core 2 Duo E4700 (2.6 GHz)
    -3 GB DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM (1 x 2048, 1 x 1024)
-Integrated graphics (NVIDIA GeForce 7100), VGA
    -Hard drive 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3 Gb/s
    -Card G wireless LAN
-LightScribe 16 X MAX drive DVD +/-R/RW SuperMulti
-output port headset 15-in-1 memory card reader, USB 2.
    -No TV Tuner w/remote control
-Integrated 5.1 audio channels with front audio ports

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion Slimline s3600t desktop. According to specifications, your system has a 180 Watt power supply. This power is very unlikely to support a low profile retail graphics card. You can buy a card personalized with reduced HP power but it is very expensive. This leaves the eVGA USB - VGA adapter. About $ 40 - $50, it's a bargain compared to your other choices.

  • Two monitors configured using PCoIP does not cover both monitors for VMware View

Occasionally, I've experienced the symptoms described in KB1027899, when usually the first time of connection for the day that I select multiscreen and the screen is divided in the Middle the 2 monitors using PCoIP. I end up disconnecting and reconnecting to the virtual machine a few times, which is a valid solution, but I'm still curious about why this is happening.

I am running VMware View 5.0.0 build-481677, on a Wyse R90L with Windows XP Embedded, I use VMware View Client 5.0.0 build 481677 and VMWare View agent on a box of Windows 7 5.0.0 build 481677. We lack vCenter and ESXi 5.0.0 in all areas as well.

According to the article, this happens because there is not enough video memory configured for the virtual computer. The problem I have is that if I force the pool offices use PCoIP and 128 MB of video memory, I can't RDP to the workstation as the Protocol is locked, I need to still be able to do. I tried manually increase the memory video, but view reconfigures to match the settings of the pool.

Is there a way to increase the video memory without changing the required logon Protocol? Or is there a fix in a different way to this question?

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Joe

Have you tried to change the configuration video pool to be 2 monitors with 2560 x # instead of the default resolution to see if that solves the problem?

  • Cannot use new external TV as a monitor for my Satellite P100-240

    Hello

I have connected my Toshiba to a new Panasonic LCD 32 '' via a VGA cable.
When the computer starts, I get the standard Toshiba opening page, then the opening of Windows XP on the TV, but then nothing when my laptop start.

When initialization is complete, I don't get the same office as the Toshiba on my TV BUT no icons etc, simply on the desktop.

If I change the screensave on the Toshiba, it changes on the TV, so I'm getting a connection.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
I tried the usual things (e.g. check box to extend my desktop to this monitor)

    > When initialization is complete, I don't get the same office as the Toshiba on my TV BUT no icons etc, simply on the desktop.
The icons don t appear on the external TV because you have extended only the desktop on the external screen.
If you want to have the same screen as on the internal display, then you must use the FN + F5 key combination to get the same photo!

  • Can I use my 600-1050 as a monitor for a desktop PC?

If I had to buy a desktop computer, it would be possible to use my TouchSmart 600-1050 as his monitor?

    How would I do that?

No, it doesn't have the entries to use as a screen in this way.

That being said, there are software applications that can extend your desktop to another PC/monitor and the Touchsmart could be this "another pc.

  • IPad as a second monitor?

I search around the internet to find how to use an Ipad as a second monitor for the first edition, but I did not find anything. Is it possible to use an Ipad as a second monitor? and if how can I do? I intend to buy an app called Duet and I don't want to spend your money in vain!

OK, since the Ipad comes in as a valid alternative only in the context of configurations that are inexpensive. Depends entirely on 1) If you're talking about a configuration on the go/road or stationery at home, for a stationary work, you can get a decent display with a lot more space and calibrate (btw, I've heard you can calibrate an iPad too). So for the work of stationery, I would say that the Ipad is the last choice. Now, if you talk about travel/run-and-gun/very mobile configurations, then I was looking at it this way: 2) should I an iPad 4, air or 2 ask about underutilized? By all means, YES. I use monitor Duo all the time on the road with my Macbook pro, but NOT for the video output - I move less used menu items it is to free up space to maximize the monitor calibrated on my Macbook for video reference and 3 space) If you don't have an Ipad underutilized, sense get a new one for this purpose two standalone thin 17 "monitors stacked against others in your bags would be cheaper and much more help
