using psshutdown.exe cause virtual machines to be "in use".

Hi all

We have a pool of custom docking station that uses the PStools command psshutdown.exe to kick a user on a bound of Windows XP desktop to cloned after 2 hours. The problem is, it seems that the virtual desktop will eventually be registered as "Already used" and becomes unusable until delete us it (and it gets rebuilt). The command psshutdown.exe did something out of the ordinary that does not detect view? Can support because it added?

Thank you

  • Virtual machines off the power during the response of isolation of riding

We have 2 ESx 3.5 update 3 groups in our environment. Clusters have HA and response of isolation The Drs is configured from virtual machines under tension. During a network outage, on one of the hosts, all virtual machines were turned off. None of the virtual machines on other host turned off. Virtual machines had come back on the other cluster hosts once the network was up and VC was reachable.

Prior to the maintenance of the network, due to a problem, this particular host was disconnected from the VC earlier. We were unable to connect to the server through the VI Client and restarted the service pass. Prior to the maintenance of the network, we identified that this single host was not related to performance on the VC Server data. Also some jobs started on the host would go to 100% but show never completed.

My request is could the problem above caused virtual machines to restart despite the response of insulation parameter. Before the interview, I could find this host receiving the heart beats of VC server and other hosts in the cluster and VC showed no error associated with HA on the cluster or the particular host.

We rebooted the host after the maintenance of the network and reconfigured HA on the cluster. Since then, it works fine. We had another interview to the network and we have had no problem with VM restarts.

Looks like your ha agent may be dead as well as your connection between the host and VC.  There are several newspapers linked to HA, under/var/log/vmware/aam.  You can check to see if they provide additional insight as to why HA acted differently on a vs host others.

  • Slow down the virtual machines on the host of underutilized - unknown reason

    Hello

What could cause virtual machines running on a host computer with a lot of unused memory, processor power and disk IO sink so slowly that it takes 30 minutes just to open a Windows session on one of them?

I ran about 5 virtual machines on a host with 16 GB of RAM, but have now upgraded to 32 GB of RAM in the hope to add more virtual machines. At some point, most of the machines is idle, and SysInternals Process Explorer shows less than 20% use by the processors. E/s disk too is usually measured in kb/s - 16 disks systems although RAID is capable of much more of IO.

As soon as I run about 6 or 7 of virtual machines instead of about 5, I meet considerable slowdowns as mentioned above. I use only about 20 GB of the 32 GB in the system when problems occur.

    Dramatik2

The aggreggate e/s disc is irrelevant.

You need to look at the disk queue length, read, write, transfer, etc.

  • Transfer of personal use of Boot Camp Virtual Machine license

    Hello!

I bought a disc of system integrator OEM 64 - bit Windows 8 for use under the terms of the personal use license and it installed on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp.
It turns out that the integrated graphics (Intel HD 3000) is not available in configuration dual-boot.
so I cannot use the dedicated graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6750 M) (for which I should apparently accused Apple, but that's off-topic anyway).
Using the graphics card Intel (for example Quick Sync Video support) has been the reason why I chose a dual boot as opposed to a virtual machine configuration.
Because this does not work, I will try and transfer the installation on a virtual machine in the near future.
I understand that the personal use license does not allow me to run the two facilities (Boot Camp and VM), but do I have that right to say
the conditions of licence it is for me to transfer the license to a virtual machine, as I have delete the partition Boot Camp of my MacBook Pro?
Assuming the above is correct, how exactly would ensure the transfer is as painless as possible? For example:
-AFAICT I would have to get in touch with a Microsoft Product Activation Center by phone.
Is there a better and/or other method or is it my best bet?
-It would be best to call before you do anything, or only after the installation of Windows in the VM (i.e. upon activation)?
-Should what information I have ready to give Microsoft?

That's right, simply remove the installation of Boot Camp, then you can transfer to a virtual computer and reactivate by phone:

    1. press the Windows key + X , and then clickrun, and then type: slui.exe 4

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

    4. choose the option "activate phone".

    5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    6. explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Nope. activation of the phone is your only option.
-It would be best to call before you do anything, or only after the installation of Windows in the VM (i.e. upon activation)?
You can not, you make the call "after" you have transferred the license.

  • Is it possible - installation of a virtual machine with Server 2008 on a disc and use the other drive for storage

I have a Dell power edge server with 2 Configuration of disks 1 TB in raid 0

I can install a Win Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 on a VD without problem, but I do not see the other disk of TB in option within Windows Server to be used as storage SQL only.

How can I get the two disks to appear in Windows server?

    what I want is:

First Dell 1 TB drive VD = Server 2008R2 and SQL on C:\

Second VD Dell 1 TB drive = D:\ like disk storage

do I have to configure the Dell VD another way or is it possible

    Thank you

You basically configure the virtual machine that you want on all the available storage (do not forget to keep free space, for example snapshots). -As I understand it - is so that ESXi does not see the storage! This is often caused by the RAID controllers not taken in charge or the RAID issues. Please check if the RAID controller is supported as well as the configuration. BTW. Why do you want to configure RAID0? If you want to create two virtual disks on warehouses of separate data anyway, simply present to ESXI as two separate disks/volumes.

  • High using the Virtuakbox virtual machine CPU load

I have a MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz processor dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz) with 3 MB L3 cache.

I use VMware Fusion Pro 7.0.1 (2235595) to install and use Windows 8 to run the Simulator on my MacBook internetworking solution.

These simulators come with Oracle VM VirtualBox and they used to run in the Windows virtual machine on my MacBook Pro with no problems.

    So far, no problem!

However, after upgrading to OS X Yosmite 10.10.1 simulators no longer work due to the high utilization of the processor by VBoxHeadless.exe

I deleted the virtual machine, I uninstalled VMware Fusion and reinstalled, then reinstalled the Windows operating system, makes all the possible update and finally installed solutions simulators without success to have any Simulator market, they used. The reason is always high utilization of the processor by VBoxHeadless.exe as seen in the following images:

    2014-11-20_11-38-20.png2014-11-20_11-39-34.png

I then moved to bootcamp and all do it again. Now simulators all run as before but on windows on the bootcamp partition.  Now I can even run a lot of devices in simulators like in the following photos with no problems:

    20141119_194835.jpg

    20141119_194908.jpg

Please, do you know how I can fix this problem? I prefer to use VMware fusion because it gives me more room for what I want to achieve compared to the bootcamp.

There is a difference between the hosts with regard to the information provided by windows on the ability of the virtualization of the MacBook.

I thank very you much in advance!

    Kind regards

Your problem unfortunately was not something that other people recognized as a problem they had seen or they simply didn't have the time to answer.

The majority of the Fusion users will not also have installed VirtualBox.

However, I am glad to hear that you found a solution (in a restaurant) and please let us know.

  • One of the disks of rhe in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a snapshot

    Hi all.

An apologize for my bad English.

I have 10 VmWare installed on Linux Centos 5.

I worked with the Windows 7 virtual machine and hang on it.

Now when I try to run this VM, I get this message:

"One of rhe in this virtual machine disk is already used by a virtual machine or a snapshot.

I try to fix it in this way:

Re: Could not open the hard file. One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a s...

    mkdir ./clone
    vmware-vdiskmanager -r "Windows 7 x64-000008.vmdk" -t 0 "Windows 7 x64.vmdk"
    mkdir /backup
    mv *.* ./backup/
    cp ./backup/*vmx ./
    cp ./backup/*vmxf ./

But after that, I got the error: "cannot change the power state of VM: can't open ' / * /Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk.»» The system cannot find the specified file.

Please, help me to solve the problem.

Once again apologize for my English :)

I really don't see what could be causing the problem, except that there are some .lck files in the subdirectory "lock"!

Anyway, if worry ends snapshots and the current state is what you need, you can follow these steps (which are close to what you have already done) to merge snapshots of virtual disk in and use this virtual disk to the virtual machine:

    • Close VMware Workstation
    • Create a new subdirectory and move the VM files and folders to backup purposes
    • "" since this subdirectory run: vmware-vdiskmanager-r "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" t 1 '... / X64.vmdk of Windows 7 '
    • Copy the .vmx file to the parent directory and edit it as follows:
      scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x 64 - 000008.vmdk" --> scsi0:0.fileName = "Windows 7 x64.vmdk"

Now you should be able to start the virtual machine with the cloned virtual disk.

  • Cannot open the hard file. One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a snapshot

    Hi all

Tried my level best to solve, but still the same problem persists. . Lck tried but as soon close VMware workstation, it disappears. This problem starts when yesterday instead of powering down, suspended. The next resume when it gives captioned error. Tried creating new virtual machine using an existing vmdk file but my mainly all the data disappeared. Now I want to resume the suspended state. Kindly help on the same. Thank you

OK, we will first focus on the first virtual disk (System) on the D: drive which has enogh of disk space to create a clone.

The "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk" dated from 19/07/13 is probably exactly what we need, and if it has approximately the same size of file than current/changing, then you can replace the one changed with it. Once restored, proceed as follows (with VMware Workstation closed):

    from the command line run:

    cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation"
    cd /d D:\win2k3
    md Clone
    C:vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk" -t 0 "Clone\Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Once the cloning done so, create a subfolder "Backup" and move all over existing files (as a backup). Copy the .vmx file and .vmxf the subdirectory "Backup" in the D:\win2k3 folder, then do the same with the file hard cloned since the 'Clone' subdirectory, so that you end up with the following files:

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmx

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmxf

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk

Before you can try to start the virtual machine, you must edit the .vmx file and replace

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition - 000002.vmdk"

    with

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Please do the above and report. If you have any questions please ask.

  • Using fault tolerant instead of a virtual machine in standby

    Hi all

I just read a little on the feet.  My company offers a SaaS solution to customers.  We are pretty well everything virtual.  For this simple example, I will say that we have a dedicated server set up for our application we offer to customers.  If something were to go wrong with the application or server (software, not hardware), we have a machine of relief that we can move to in an emergency.  This requires a manual switch, change the IPs, DNS change, change firewall policies, etc. etc.

I was wondering if we could use FT to handle this.  I understand that FT does not detect a failure, because it of nothing wrong with the material, but is it possible to 'push a button' and start using the copy of the virtual machine?

I also met HA tracking app.  However, it seems that this option restarts just the virtual machine, which is certainly not what we are looking for.  I may be wrong on the restart, however.

    Any other suggestions or information?

    Thank you!

Yes, if you only use one vCPU it will work the way that you season - keep in mind the secondary VM is mirrored all that primary VM does if the cause is due to a change to data in the primary VM it will be mirrored in the seodnary VM

  • Import the virtual machine created with .exe files

    Hello

I'm new in the world of the virtual machines, and I'm sorry if I'm going to say something stupid.

I take a .net class and the teacher has a virtual machine (windows XP with software) ready to pose with 4 .exe files.

I installed VMfusion but now I have no idea how / if I can import the teacher VM fusion.

Is this possible? If this is not the case, what can I do else?

    Thank you very much

    Luca

Find a Windows PC and run the exe files to extract the virtual machine, precompiled.  Just copy the folder of the entire virtual machine on your Mac, and then open/run the virtual machine using the merger.  VMware virtual machines are portable between products and host operating system - there should be no reason to "convert" or "import".

  • ESXi using ~ 2 GB of RAM without any virtual machines?

I've been troubleshooting for awhile now and try to see if someone can get ideas...

I have a test server (2.5 GB of ram, 3 GHz intel p4) and I got successfully intalled ESXi.  I also have 3 virtual machines one at a time.  Each running windows server 2003 and has 256 MB of ram assigned.

So, now that I got this that until now I can't even start the three servers at the same time do to the memory being allocated more.

I did a fresh restart of the esxi server and have noticed that it uses nearly 2 GB of ram before I have even power on all virtual machines?

Any idea what causes this?  I have a test server separate esxi with very similar conifguration and it consumes 2-300 MB of ram on first boot until I turn on virtual machines.  Thanks in advance!

  • create a virtual machine using createVM_Task

    Hello

I extracted the configuration information of the VM (VirtualMachineConfigInfo []) and the use of I want to create a virtual machine (essentially wants to fill [VirtualMachineConfigSpec]).

For the property '[of] deviceChange.device"in VirtualMachineConfigSpec, can I directly copy the information from the device of ' harware.device [of] ' VirtualMachineConfigInfo property. Will this work?

    I have two more questions:

1 cant explain peripheral information by default (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec when calling CreateVM_Task()?

    2. is it compulsory for negative values(-ve) values for controller/key relationships?

    Thank you

    -Rambeau

    > For the property '[of] deviceChange.device"in VirtualMachineConfigSpec, can I directly copy the information from the device of ' harware.device [of] ' VirtualMachineConfigInfo property. Will this work?

Lol it can be copied directly to "deviceChange.device" in VirtualMachineConfigSpec. Also, there could be other problems as well, like the support information will be common to both machines. So, at a time, you will be able to use only 1 VM. It will be not as trivial this may seem.

    > 1. Cant explain peripheral information by default (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec when calling CreateVM_Task()?

Yes, you can specify default devices information (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec. The 'deviceChange.device' is a data object "VirtualDevice. This data object is extended by the class 'VirtualController '. It's even wider by the following classes:

'VirtualIDEController', 'VirtualPCIController', 'VirtualPS2Controller', 'VirtualSCSIController', 'VirtualSIOController', 'VirtualUSBController '.

You can implement the foregoing classes, assign it to the 'deviceChange.device' of VirtualMachineConfigSpec property and pass it to the CreateVM_Task.

    > 2. Is it mandatory to get negative values(-ve) values for controller/key relationships?

It is not mandatory to give negative values for the controller and the key. By assigning a negative value, the server assigns self-produced nonnegative unique key for the device. This excludes the possibility to assign a duplicate key, which can cause an error.

  • Can I use the Windows Vista I had with my Toshiba laptop on virtual machine?

    Hey all

I have changed Microsoft for Macintosh, but installed on a virtual machine (oracle vm virtual machine) my Windows Vista I got with my Toshiba Satellite A350D Notebook previous. I installed Vista with the recovery disk. Now he asks me the Windows Vista product key. The sticker on the back of my laptop is more readable. I run the Belarc Advisor to get the product key in this way. But right now, he said: "it's the product key installed at the factory by the manufacturer rather than yours. You can change this to your product key here for Windows http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=45668"

My question: am I not allowed to use windows vista legally, I had with my computer toshiba laptop on other devices? I won't use the Thoshiba laptop. Do I have to delete the record from the Thoshiba laptop? Where can I get a new product key?

Maybe someone can help me here. Thank you in advance for taking your time to read this.

    Betty

Recovery disk or recovery image is designed for some cell phone only and is not a kind of universal image that can be used on other devices. It comes with the laptop.

You can use the Microsoft Windows disk with valid license on each device. Recovery image is not only BONES. This is the package that contains the drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities.
As you also know recovery image when you install it on your laptop must be turned on not so the license code downstairs just proves you have purchased a valid license with your laptop.
    > Should I remove the record of the Toshiba laptop?
    Not why do this?
    > Where can I get a new product key?
You cannot get it because you need when you use the recovery image on your Satellite A300D. I think even you will hear of Toshiba.

    Hello

I'll be working with a virtual machine (windows xp) and I need to use an NI USB-4065 DMM.

When I connect the USB-4065 to the PC, the virtual windows xp recognizes the new HW and also MAX display the new device on the list DAQmx.

It seems ok, but if I try to use the USB-4065 (open the soft cover or in a LabView VI), the device does not work.

If I use the frontpanel app, when I click a botton, the Group seems to work but doesn't measure anything; If I try to reboot the softpanel, it works and 'freeze' of the screen.

If I use LabView, the VI returns an error on a maximum duration of the measure.

I'm trying to use the device on the real machine (not with VMware) USB-4065 works, whith flexible Panel and whith VI.

I update the driver of the DMM on the virtual machine, beats the device still doesn't work.
