Using the "open with" context in the registry.

I want (need) to use the framework 'open with' on my computer at home, but it doesn't seem to be there on my Windows 7 Home Premium * edition.

I tried to restore it with instructions (Microsoft, I think), but were not successful (maybe not be able to restore it if it was never there in first place).
Is there a way to enter in the registry, perhaps by the upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?
software operating has been installed on the computer HP TouchSmart when I bought it a few years ago.

  • How to disable tabs in DC using the registry?

    Hello

As you probably know, Adobe Reader DC has a problem where it freezes when you switch between multiple PDF files that have been opened with tabs. This problem seems to be widespread (we were able to reproduce the problem on 10 + PCs in my environment). There are other users complaining about the same problem, as in the thread below:

Re: Acrobat Reader DC crashes when several PDFs are open and I spend them.

Until Adobe fixes the bug, the only solution I see is to disable the tabs feature. Is it possible to disable the tabs using the registry? Is it possible to do using the Customization Wizard?

I bought a used laptop and the user name has been updated with the old username, but when I changed it all file paths remained the same. Can I use the registry to fix this, or is the only way to create a new account?

    Hello

If there are files and settings associated with the old user account that you want to keep, you can use the same procedure to repair a damaged user account. This will name the new account of what you want and keep all the old files and settings.

    Fix a corrupted user profile:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

If there is nothing in the old account that you want to keep, you can simply create a new user account with the name that you want to use and then delete the old account.

  • Duplicate the application in the "open with" context menu

    Hi all

On my iMac, the last OS X El Capitan.

For an example, so I mediainfo application on the app store and it works fine, no problem.

What happens if I go to a video rile, do a right-click, open with... There mediainfo twice, optionally including a version and the other a newer version if instead of upgrading to the new version of its kept the two versions?

So I look under 'Applications' and that is only once not twice.

I click and hold the icon for mediainfo in launchpad, it wiggles, I press x to delete it form party launchpad and its applications in the finder.

But there must be somewhere because he is always right click on the menu 'Open with' and it actually load the program if you choose somehow even if it isn't the disk hard mac! ?.

I did a search and don't see you mediainfo application anywhere on the disc hard mac.

I have a copy of super duper of my HDD on an external hard drive that probably the application it but can it really be getting the external application and adding it to "open with" menu and launch the application from the external hard drive? If yes then this is not cool...

I also noticed right on a PDF right-click, open with Watch 2 entrances of Safari 2 on iBooks, google chrome 2, all are an old version and one is a more recent version, where could he be getting from and the addition in the menu "open with?"

If it is picking up my applications folder on the external drive backup and using that in the open with menu and launch the application from the external backup then it is really bad, it should only be launched from applications to disk hard mac shouldn't it?

    Any ideas?

  • I did a system restore and boot has changed. The only program that I can open is all the others, that I wonder select the program to use to open with Explorer. What should I do?

It is no longer a row of icons at the bottom right, and asked me to choose a program to use to open files

Hello and welcome to Microsoft Answers. It seems that your computer is infected with malware. The first thing you need to do is re - associate your executable files with applications.

    First

Click Start > run > type cmd in the Run dialog box, and then press ok. On the line of command prompt type "assoc.exe = exefile" without the quotes. If you are unable to open the applications follow the second below.

    Second

Right click on start > search. Type rundll32.exe in the field of the files to be searched. Choose to search for your main drive (usually C). Select the search hidden files and folder advanced features. Click on the search button to start the search. In the results list, find the associated rundll32 file C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. Right-click on rundll32 to the left of the directory above and choose 'open file location '. The rundll32.exe file should be highlighted when the folder opens. Right-click on the file and choose copy. Then, in the search results list, right-click on rundll32 which corresponds to C\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe and choose "open file location". Again the file should be highlighted. Right-click on the file and choose Remove. Right click again in a free space in the folder and choose Paste. If this does not resolve your problem, you will need to get a windows OS disk and extract the file from there.

Once this problem is solved, you will need to perform several anti-malware analysis. You should start with Malwarebytes. Make sure that you update the parser before the scan.

    Thank you!

Problem solved by a person post in the Forums of Vista, that what he said in this thread (Thread link: http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/202928-open-choose-default-program-error-vista-2.html#post939031 ):

    "PROBLEM SOLVED!"
    HOO HOO!

I want to thank you once again BRINK for ideas on how to solve this problem.
The next step below, this is how I solved this annoying problem:

First of all, I came across this article on the Microsoft Web site by changing my google search to solve the problem. I started the google search with the following:

'open with' lack of context menu

Who brought results with the first being a microsoft link:

Command 'Open with' missing from the context Menu

Now the article didn't tell me exactly how to solve this problem, but it gave me an idea.
He said look at the following reg key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command

And he said to watch the following default value:

    C:\%windir%\rundll32.exe shell32.dll, OpenAs_RunDLL %1

After that, I noticed that the value was different, but then I noticed in watching the article says that this applies to Windows 95 and 98.
I then looked at the same key on my laptop that is running Vista Ultimate 32 bit also and I noticed there are subfolders on my laptop that my office did not have.
It should look like the following:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown
    \DefaultIcon
    \+Shell
    \+openas
    \COMMAND
    \+opendlg
    \COMMAND

My office was only the DefaultIcon folder.
Well I just copied the key from my laptop and voila... it worked.
I thank the gods of the computer. This has really been bugging me. I know that some people would have just reconfigured or installed a new but I knew it was an easy fix. I thought it was a reg key or windows dll file, but I just need to find the location where he resided in. Luckily I came across this article which pointed me in the right direction. Now I feel like I accomplished something.

Sorry if this is a bit long but I HATE it when I'm looking for answers in the forums and I see someone say they have solved their problem, but they either don't say anything about how they fixed or that they are so vague that they could didn't say anything.
I hope this helps others if they have this problem.

Thank you once again on BOARD! "

    That's all!

  • Windows Update after moving the 'users' on another disk on Windows 8 (without using the registry)

    Hello guys,.

I would like to ask something. I just got a new desktop PC with a 240 GB SSD and a 1 TB HARD drive, so I had to move the Users folder to the HARD disk. I used the way written here: http://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-change-user-profile-location-in-windows-8-without-registry-hack/

I wonder now, since there is no registry hack, it is sure to run Windows Update? I tried yesterday, but I found myself with 4 updates, do not install with all the applications Microsoft Windows 8 (those in the new departure) detects not whole Internet. I could not also add all the features for windows in the .net Framework as anything Microsoft partner unable to connect to the Internet.

I did a fresh install, followed the new guide but disabled the update of Windows, but I need some updates to add some options to my systems, just basic Windows updates don't not upgrading to 8.1 Windows, so is safe to make updates, is there something to do to ensure that all updates will install very well or should I just stay away Windows Update?

In which case it is allowed to update, I want to do all work perfectly as I heard the guide I followed could sometimes would do if permission issues records to check and make sure I got all the permissions to so that none of the updates fail? Thanks in advance

    Hello

I would recommend that you not move all of the USERS folder, or even your own...

Which may or may not be the problem with .net 3.5... It's kind of finicky to start, and there are other reasons why he could not install...

But there are things in the folder users who may not be able to be found by things like the update of Windows, programs and etc...

The best thing to do is to simply move your various Documents, photos, etc. and leave the application data and only, etc...

You can make a new My Documents folder on the HARD drive and put the photos, downloads and etc in it and then change the location of your folder...

You don't have to make a new folder in My Documents, but there is less clutter in this way...

You MUST create new records to the desired location on your HARD drive.

If the files are going to be mixed between them on the root of the folder you are moving to.

There is a way to create the file as part of the process of 'Change location', but it would be better just to create the lilke files as you would any other folder, exactly where you want that they and choose when you're moving.

Just go to your user folder, right-click on the file that you want to move, select Properties, and then click the LOCATION tab.

    Hi, Maxim,.

Not all the registry changes require restarting the computer. There are some records that have the attributes read-only at the start of the system, when you modify these records, you will need to restart your computer for Windows to recognize the changes.

    Hope the helps of information.
