  Do not remove the navigation, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Site preferences".

  A user has posted that he was able to disable the Norton Toolbar extension in the Add-ons Manager leaving completely the Firefox instead of use the restart button (if you see the Mozilla Crash Reporter, click "Quit Firefox") and then start fresh Firefox.   Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

  Problem solved. I removed the repo steady mozillateam from my list of sources. Then deleted firefox using "apt - get remove firefox" and then installed firefox after a reboot. Also removed ".mozilla" folder in my home directory, which was probably the root of this problem. Now replaced my previous profile FF 10 woking great.
