Validity of Dell OEM XP PRO key in Compaq

Hello, I bought a xp pro cd in ebay, and I found that they offered a CD OEM, valid for compaq/hp, dell and I don't know what else.

When the cd arrived, I installed and all updates ok, no problem with Windows genuine advantage, but I realized that the sticker says "DELL".  I wonder if it's only for my computer compaq laptop.

Thank you

Hello DazzedCat,

Certificates of authenticity (CoA) with a brand name specific on line 2 are only legitimately used on this brand of computer.

The seller is dishonest or ignorant.  Not sure which is worse. Good advice on all XP themes, visit the http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp

  • Can I change my Pro of Win7 32-bit to 64-bit by using the same key from the Dell OEM disc?

I have a new laptop with Win7 32 on it, but I really wanted 64 bit - I missed that detail. I've read elsewhere that the 32-bit key is the same for 64.

So, can I download Win7 64 Pro (same version, only 64-bit) and install it on the laptop using the Win7 32 bit key on the OEM disc?

    Thank you.

Yes, it will work fine - the key for the same version of Windows works, whether at the level of the ILO.  You can download a retail ISO, burn to DVD, move in with him, then activate by phone (with Microsoft NOT Dell) using the product key on your COA sticker.

  • XP Pro key validates the AOC but no cd... What can I do?

XP Pro key validates the AOC but no cd... What can I do?  Had a reconstructed virus so a system of 2005.  Have no HP recovery without cd XP Pro but who have a valid key and coa... what I can do.  I have read this and other forums and it may be that its basically impossible to order an OEM XP Pro Microsoft cd?

I tried HP for the system, no luck - too old system recovery disks.  Perhaps, but it worked well for what I needed.

    Hi Roy,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have the product key for Windows XP, but no media installation of Windows XP.

Since you are using copy OEM of Windows XP, you must contact the respective computer to the drive manufacturer.

You can also try to check the availability of the disk from the Microsoft order desk team.

    See the link.

    MGA Diagnostic Report:

To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the diagnostic report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to the desktop -http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

    Once downloaded, run the tool.
Click on the button continue, after a short time, continue button will change to a copy button.
Click the copy button in the tool (ignore the error at this stage) and then paste (with r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your message.

    One issue per thread:

Activation and Validation issues more look the same on the surface, but can have many different causes and bugs. This is why we ask a diagnostic report and it is also why we are asking that you create your own thread for your question (in other words, do not post your question in another thread).

It is simply too complicated to try to resolve the multiple problems in the same thread.

  • Meeting place for Dell 11 I3 pro locks screen (7139/7130) towards the top/gels

    Hello

I have a Dell location 11 Pro I3, it's almost awesome to work after getting all the latest drivers updates, Bios, etc..

But from time to time, the screen freezes, it seems that it only freezes when im touching the screen or using the keyboard on this (compact keyboard with trackpad).

A few times the screen freezes for a few seconds, other times I have to put to sleep (power button) and wake up again until the screen reacts.

I know it is a problem of editing screen, the Tablet meets the keys, keyboard typing or the trackpad when the screen is frozen.

How will I know it when I see the movements on the screen? I see when I wake the Tablet after a freeze of all the changes I made, for example typings, Web sites change. And the sounds when I get error sound when I arrive at the end of a page, etc. The sounds come while the screen is frozen.

Anyone have any idea how I can solve the freezing of the screen that would be amazing :)

I've seen other posts but non of them are recent (a month or two old)

    Thanks in advance :)

On my tablet, this problem was more caused by the Panel Auto Refresh. Download Intel drivers from the support page and install it if you don't have it already done. Then, click Start-> all-> Intel HD Graphics Control Panel Apps. Click on 'Power', then click on "Off" next to Panel to refresh.

This problem does not appear immediately after the start, but it happens that after a considerably long waiting period.

When this problem occurs, for the most part I can go back by simply clicking on the key to the victory under the screen, but it sometimes causes system freeze, where longlonglong I press the power button to restart.

    Hello Craig and Biggttee,

Thanks for posting your question on the forum of the Microsoft community.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:
I suggest you try run MGADiag.exe and check.
    See this link:
    http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52012

If this does not help, then use method 2.

    Method 2:
Please follow these steps and check the issue.

    a. Click Start, type cmd in the start search box.

    b. right click on cmd and select run as administrator.

    c. type the following command at the command prompt and press ENTER.

    net stop sppsvc

(It may ask you if you're sure, select Yes)

Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, that's ok.

    d. type the following command one by one and press ENTER after each command:

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    Rename tokens.bar tokens.dat

    CD %windir%\system32

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

    e. Activation of Windows dialog box will appear. You may need to reactivate and to re - enter your product key or Activation can occur automatically.

    f. run the MGADiag.

Please also refer to the advice given in this link: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6d5e9a33-e7ca-4b2e-9d1f-2774a622cacf/validation-code-50?forum=genuinewindows7

    I hope this information helps.

    Thank you

You can check the problems caused by a corrupt localstore.rdf file if you continue to have problems.

  • Satellite L550 PSLW8A can only get OEM Win7 Pro 32-bit to 64-bit?

    Hi all

    I am writing from Australia.

Two weeks ago, I bought a new laptop Toshiba ([http://tinyurl.com/ye6jkuq]) with the following characteristics:

    Model: Satellite L550
    Reference number: PSLW8A-01101F
    BIOS: V1.60
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 2.13 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB
    HARD DRIVE: 500 GB
OS: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (OEM preinstalled)

    My question:
    How can I switch to Win7 Pro * 32 - bit * for Win7 Pro * 64 - bit *?

If I use the recovery disk (the hidden recovery partition) utility to do a clean reinstallation of Win7 Pro, I will give the choice during the process of resettlement of the installation either the 32-bit version or 64-bit?

Or I have + not + get the choice at all and simply be limited to the OEM Win7 Pro 32-bit that came pre-installed version?

All advice or information about how to pass OEM Win7 Pro 32-bit to Win7 Pro 64-bit would be appreciated.

    Nick

    Hello

AFAIK almost all new laptops are available with 32 and 64-bit OS and two recovery images are saved on the HARD drive.
When you start installation HARD drive you should see the option to choose which version must be installed.

Simply start the installation of HARD drive and you will see what menu you will see at the beginning. Not be afraid to do so. Nothing will happen.
Real OS installation starts two steps later. If you can not damage preinstalled OS.

  • Reference Dell coming 8 Pro poor choice of taking Micro has USB with USB Micro-B plug. Already broken!

Got the Dell coming 8 Pro Tablet and there seems to be a great Windows Tablet. But I already broke one of the pins in the Micro USB connector. Funny, it is taking the Tablet is a rectangular Micro-A and the power cable plug is Micro-B (form no-brainer which allows you to plug in the right direction, if the plug is also Micro B). You can easily put the Micro-B plug in the Micro-A plug in the wrong way, and if force you it, it will break the pins inside. Just like I did today! I don't know who in the world made this choice! I have been using Android phones that are using the Micro-B Plug and a Micro-B plug correctly!

For my problem, I'll try to call Dell and see if they will replace the connector. :-(

Again device shipped, put the old device in box to send back for warranty. Tech couldn't confirm whether or not I would be charged. For me they will say it is the end user damaged and charge me for a new tablet.  If the end-user damaged, which I do not think that it is, I would rather just replace the USB jack, but do not have this option.  FYI - supervisor confirmed that Best Buy didn't was NOT a local tech - happy I rally call would have laughed if Geek squad guy
