vApps

Colegas,

Qual has language tool vApps?

e aqui uma explanation but detalhada:

What are the vApps?

A multi-VM OVF package is called a paralytic. For example, to deliver a CRM solution, the VAPP can contain the database VM, VM server application server and a web server THAT VM packed into a single unit. VApp gives owners of applications a standard way to describe operational policies for an application that the cloud OS can interpret and execute automatically. Therefore, the vApps are self-describing to and self-management on the platform they are running. vApps may include applications running on any OS, providing a mechanism to move applications between the clouds internal or external clouds while maintaining the same level of service. vApps are the next generation of the virtual appliance, covering a range wide and varied of virtual applications created by the publishers of software, developers, directors of the company or IT professionals.

VApp anyone using VMware vSphere or vCloud Director allows you to encapsulate a multi-virtual machine application. ISVS can use VMware Studio to create vApps that can be automatically updated and maintained by VMware vSphere or vCloud Director.

Virtual appliances and vApps created by VMware Studio perfectly run the VMware products such as VMware vCloud Director, VMware Infrastructure, VMware ESXi, VMware Workstation , VMware vSphereand VMware Fusion, as well as third-party virtualization products that support the specification of the FVO.

  • Create a vApp-based service

    I am creating a service that contains the servers within a vCloud vApp.

    We have a large vCloud environment where we use several servers with the same IP/servername and which confronts us with the challenge that the only real identifier is the VM UUID.

    Today, we are building the Service by manually adding the servers one by one by searching the UUID but it s your time and as soon as a virtual computer is redeployed or deleted the change reflected in the service isn´t.

    The goal would be to create a rules-based group that could automatically update the service instead.

    Any ideas on how this might be accomplished?

    For future reference if someone else will never need the same solution, here is a solution provided by Dell support.

    Run this in the script console will create a dynamic service a vApp defined in the script.

    vAppName = "insert your name of VAPP here."             VAPP name

    serviceName = "VCD_vApp_" + vAppName;                         This is the name of service creation

    pourfusionner = [];

    TS = server.get("TopologyService");

    Create category

    categoryType = ts.getType ("FSMCategory"); vCat = ts.getObjectShell (categoryType); vCat.setName ("Cloud"); pourfusionner<>

    Create services

    serviceType = ts.getType ("FSMService"); vServ = ts.getObjectShell (serviceType); vServ.setName (serviceName); def domainsProperty = vServ.getType () .getProperty ("domainAssociationIDs");

    vServ.markOverridingProperty (domainsProperty);

    def domainsList = vServ.get("domainAssociationIDs") as set; domainsList< "vcloud";="" vserv.setlist("domainassociationids",="">

    Add the category service

    catDefintion = categoryType.getProperty ('definition');

    vCat.getList (catDefintion) .add (vServ);

    pourfusionner<>

    dmcType = ts.getType ("FSMDynamicManagedComponent");

    Add all virtual machines

    vmDMC = ts.getObjectShell (dmcType);

    vmDMC.setName ("VMs");

    vmDMC.set ('container', vServ);

    vmDMC.set ("componentQuery", .virtualMachines""(VMVCloudVApp where name ='"+vAppName+"') ");

    Here to get all the pourfusionner specified VAPP virtualMachines<>

    vServ.set ('definition', [vmDMC]);

    ts.mergeData (toMerge);

    return;

  • What is the smallest model of VAPP available that can be used with vCloud Director?

    Hi all

    I was on the hunt to find the smallest operating system which can be used for demonstration purposes.

    I want to be able to quickly create vApps so a small footprint would be ideal.

    What guys do you use?

    I found this customization for operating system support invited into vCloud Director 5.5 (2058524) | VMware KB

    I always look for a 'micro' distribution that supports customization of comments.

    What is the smallest available?

  • NSX 6.2 - VCD - SP8: Do not start a vApp

    Hello

    This post just to share my experience on a small problem observed in VCD - SP 8 after an upgrade of 6.1.4 6.2 NSX NSX in my lab.

    My lab consists of:

    vSphere 6 u1

    vCD - SP 8

    NSX 6.2.0

    In 6.1.4 NSX I had prepared all logical network settings but the multicast addresses as I didn't want to use it. Then I could start my VCD VAPP.

    When I upgraded to 6.2 NSX, I tried not to start my VCD VAPP for a lot of reasons (I had other things to deal with).

    So yesterday, about a month after the update I decided to start some TIME. What a great surprise! Just look at the screenshot below

    vCloud-container - debug.log talked about universal dashboard settings.

    Firstly what led me to think about a problem of compatibility between NSX 6.2 and VCD - SP.

    I then double checked the VCD - SP error and noticed the last line. Finally, I realized that my problem was due to my... multicast settings are NULL

    I typed something and tried to start my VAPP, BINGO!

    MY QUESTION HERE:

    WHY THE PARAMETERS OF THE MULTICAST ADDRESS ARE REQUIRED EVEN WHEN MULTICAST WILL NOT BE USED!

    I guess it's to avoid the problem of configuration if change us our mind and that you decide to use multicasting as replication mode, but is there a technical reason?

    I finally understood why I had to configure multicast addresses.

    My several areas of transport was (erroneously) using Multicast replication mode.

    I put it unicast mode and erased the parameters of multicast in preparation for the logical network.

    I tried once more time to start a VAPP-online success!

  • Cannot change properties of the comments custom on a model of vapp in realization of Vcloud

    Using Warp commands, I was able to add custom properties comments in my TIME with the productSection API.  When I select my TIME and try to change the property of custom comments, it doesn't seem to save its State.

    It was one of the blogs that helped me to create the personalized comments property.

    Taking advantage of vApp & VM Custom properties in vCloud Director - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

    When I click Properties. VAPP and comments properties tab, my custom property appears and has a text box for me to change.  The problem is that no matter what I do, the value in the text box never seems to be persistent.

    Does anyone have experience with this?

    Looks like I answered my own question.

    It seems that I can change the ownership of comments customized during deployment of a model.  That's all that I really need so I'll mark this as answered.

    Thank you!

    More recent versions of vCenter have improvements to speed up the result returned SDR recommend a data store for the placement of the VM.

  • Nested VApps in vcloud Director

    Is it possible to create the vapps nested within vcloud Director?

    Nesting vapps won't happen in vCD.  They will be parallel vApps.  Is not stop you from writing a tool/site Web automation, which would show you have there.

    vRA will address finally that, but they do not use vApps.  all virtual machines just became machines to manage without the concept of being part of a paralytic.  It will be that you have a plan of several computers that uses two other plans several computers (a DB level on the application layer).

  • The inventory records and vApps

    Hello

    Just a question on the inventory in vSphere client modes.

    I'm discovering vApps. As I understand it, they work as containers for multiple virtual machines, but I also use folders to organize my virtual machines.

    The question is how to than my machines both in their dedicated container VAPP according to inventory - host & Clusters and in their usual folder in inventory - VM and templates?

    For example, after you move a virtual machine in a new TIME that I created, this virtual machine also moved from its original folder. So it seems it is not possible to mix the vApps with folders view view? The VAPP organization changes the distribution of records!
    If I am not mistaken, it is not the case with Resource Pools.

    Thanks for any idea.

    vApps in models of inventory and virtual computers are treated as a single entity, moving it's component VM will move its location completely. Is one of the cases of the use of the virtual machine to manage an application at several levels in a single container, in this case I'd be more interested move together multi-tier app, not one of the constituents.

    While Resource Pools are not yet visible in the models and virtual computers inventory VMs who are the child object of resource pools in inventory host and Cluster are free to move through different folders according to inv. models and virtual computers.

    So yes, you are right. You can't wait vApps and resource pools to give a similar behavior in virtual machines and Inv. models view

  • Does not illuminate VAPP deployed to the public catalog

    Hi guys,.

    I created a Public catalogue and exported a file to ovf Nexus 1000v in this catalogue. Since it's Public catalogue it has the rights to publish this catalogue to all organizations.

    I have an organization named "developers". This organization is able to refer to the public catalog and deploy a new TIME of it. I see on vCenter new VAPP appearing under the pool of developer resources. But this TIME lighting fails with the error message below

    "The operation could not be performed because the argument is not valid. A specified parameter was not correct.

    spec.memoryAllocation.reservation

    vCenter Server task (moref: task-1201) failed in vCenter Server 'Cloud_VC' (7b35a50a-dea1-48a2-9ae4-b38c74f8ffbb).

    -A specified parameter was not correct.

    spec.memoryAllocation.reservation ".

    I assigned 5 GB of RAM to my org vDC and I use 'Booking Pool' allocation model. I also tried giving them 1 GB, 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM to this Nexus1k TIME at the time of the deployment of the catalog, but every time I get the same error.

    Any help in this will be highly appreciated.

    Problem is with your catalog here.

    Nexus is suppose to work with vcloud Director in parallel integration. do not deploy inside like a paralytic. And NExus have its own requirement that interact with the dvswitch. I will propose you can deploy some other TIME like windows/linux and see if it works.

  • Cannot delete VM of VAPP in catalog

    Hello

    I wanted to remove 2 obsolete virtual machines of a paralytic recorded in the catalog.

    While this is possible when the vAPP is deployed and set off there seems to be no option to remove a virtual machine from a catalog that I can find.

    Is this possible? Is there another method, instead of using the web interface VCD?

    We use VCD 5.1.2.1068441.

    Thanks in advance,

    HG.

    You can't do that to my knowledge.  You will need to deploy a paralytic to the catalog item, delete the offending virtual machine, and then save it in the catalog.  He does take a few minutes if you have linked active clones.  Whatever your storage configuration I don't think that there is a way to edit the catalog item once its been created.

  • VAPP intermittently won't start - not able to deploy the network...

    I have a catalog article which appeared to be an identical copy. There two vm and PPAV natd(8) internal network and a firewall. I'm an admin org, user A and user B are the authors of vApp. When the user deploys this point and try to turn it on, this is the error she received:

    Impossible to deploy the network "TLX Internal(urn:uuid:ba517443-bb68-43f6-b10a-bde8f8df8003)".

    1. com.vmware.ssdc.util.LMException: portgroup dvs DV. VCDVSTLX Internal-ba517443-bb68-43f6-b10a-bde8f8df8003 be found in the inventory after creation

    -DV portgroup dvs. VCDVSTLX Internal-ba517443-bb68-43f6-b10a-bde8f8df8003 be found in the inventory after creation

    If I, as an admin of org, try it works, I get the same error HOWEVER if I user A deploy this TIME and leave it in a powered off State, I turn on with success.

    User B can deploy and power on this exact TIME even without any problem at all.

    What gives?

    In addition, KB is obsolete.  I think that the problem has been resolved in 5.5.3 by this support note:

    • Attempts to turn a VAPP sometimes fail with an error of distributed port group
      When you try to turn on a vApp, sometimes, the operation fails with an error similar to the following. DV portgroup is not found in the inventory after creation.This issue is resolved in vCloud Director 5.5.3.
  • vCloud connector - cannot copy VAPP vCloud Director to vSphere

    Evening,

    Try to copy a paralytic to vCloud Director on vCenter 5.5 5.6 using vCloud connector 2.7.

    The scenario:

    -vCloud Director fully configured with one Org, an Org vDC and a catalog.

    -The catalog is entirely filled, shared and published.

    -Org and catalog are configured to allow the publication to external organizations;

    -vCenter and vCloud Director have been added to vCloud connector via vSphere Client plug-ins;

    -vCloud plug connector is able to see the entire structures of vSphere and vCD (org records, catalogs, vApps, models, etc.).

    Reproduce the error:

    -Using the vSphere Client, click on the Org vCD;

    -Go to the tab vApps.

    -Select a VAPP off engine;

    -Click on copy.

    -Select Catalog (it is marked as shared and, curiously, unpublished);

    -Select vCenter as the target;

    -Select the clusters, folders, data store, formatting the drive and so on;

    -Power On TIME after deploying (or not, does not matter);

    -Validate (managed);

    -Finishing.

    Task starts and fails in a minute (or less) with the following message:

    "Export OVF has failed. Failure when copying data to the clouds: https://< vcloud_director_fqdn >. Reason: [0e65fbc1-4e04-4924-ae06-c4377dfc97af] there is no catalog in the organization. »

    Looks as vCloud connector, for some reason, is unable to locate the catalog during deployment (although it may be perfectly visible during the Copy Wizard and in his inventory).

    I tried searching for it and can't find anything similar to this error.

    Maybe it s a vCD configuration error, but how would be? I ve already selected all types of option to allow editing of catalogue and sharing, and nothing has changed.

    I published also successfully catalog VCDs to vCloud connector content library, so nothing else makes sense to me.

    Solved.

    Created a new catalog and IS NOT published. Used for the copy. Went well.

  • VAPP disk space sizing

    vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.4

    Hello

    Something escapes me the size of vApp:

    -Referring to guidelines recommended such sizing in the vCOps documentation: KB VMware: VMware vRealize Operations Manager Sizing Guidelines

    Choose the small configuration, disk storage must be 900 GB total (800 GB for VM Analytics, ~ 120 GB for VM UI)

    -When you deploy the VAPP, the FVO information are displayed:

    Could you please explain to me the difference? How much disk space my TIME will be if I deploy vCOps with little configuration using thick Provisioning?

    Thank you very much for your answers.

    M.G.

    By default, the deployment is not designed in accordance with the recommendation in the KB. The hope is that you will be adding disk and change the configuration of your particular environment.

    Vs thin thickness is not specific to this OVA, it is a matter of General vSphere. Best practices recommend using eager thick for performance benefits, as slim adds a performance penalty due to the amount of writes to disk by this unit.

  • Run a Virtual Appliance on a vCloud Director 5.5 VDC/vApp

    I want to deploy a Sonicwall Email Security Virtual Appliance (VA) in a vCloud Director 5.5 VDC/vApp.  The VA is in OVA format.  How do you do this in Director vCloud?  I tried to import the VA using vSphere importing, but is does not appear as a selection.

    Thanks for the detailed info Alan.

  • What is the impact of a change in LDAP service on existing vApps/models

    I have a mature vCloud environment with several associations who authenticate using LDAP.  The current announcement that is used to authenticate users is retired so I need to change the LDAP service.  I intend to use the custom LDAP service, import users and re - assign properties of the object.  I'm afraid that once I have change the LDAP service and point to a new domain, the existing vApps and models will be deleted.  I temporarily change owners of vApps all to a local user as a placeholder.  I think it will work but as the models?  So I am not able to change the property of models will be deleted ones after I have remove the current LDAP users or will they deleted as soon as I change the LDAP service?  How to change LDAP service safely to point to the new domain without losing existing vApps/models?

    Thank you

    -Gerry

    vApps go to expired, once storage lease has expired, and the Org is not configured to automatically remove storage lease expires.

    vApps go to the stranded objects once deleted, but there is a failure out of reach of a user of Org.

    Users go to lost if the account is removed from the LDAP source.

    You could do something like:

    1. search for all the objects owned by a user org

    2 change the owner of a temporary account

    3. try to remove the user

    4A. If the button Delete is successful, attempt to import LDAP (new ldap server)

    4B. jump user name to review at a later date

    5. place all the objects belonged to the temporary user to user newly imported.

    Once the script is running, you can run a copy by the body.
