vCenter 4.1 Update 1 upgrade of update 2

Hey all,.

I'm stuck on something and need help. We have a vSphere 4.1 environment we need to spend 4.1 update 1 to 4.1 2. I've never done this before and I am struggling with the right way to do it. My understanding is that you need to update your server vCenter first, then update manager, you can use UNIFIED messaging to update ESXi hosts. I found a post that says that the only way to vCenter is to do a new install of update 4.1 2.

If this is correct, how can I do a fresh install of vCenter without losing all my configurations? I started the installer and can't me what database, I want to install (i.e. the SQL 2005 Express included or an existing DB). If I point to the DSN for my existing DB, it will overwrite the DB or whether it is sufficient to install the update and let the DB in place?

I guess that the same question would be relevant for UNIFIED messaging was updated as well.

Quick notes... I cloned times my App Server VM vCenter and the DB Server VM vCenter, well I prefer not to overwrite my primary. I'm on an isolated network, so I don't have access to the VMware patch repositories. And I can't jump to vSphere 5. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Jeff

Hello

Before doing anything that is reading this doc

Yes, first step is always venter with all components (VUM, converter, etc.), and after upgrading vCenter you can do the upgrade to ESXi via VUM

No, it wil not crush a DB, it will ask you whether you want to upgrade current DB

Yes

You want to perform the upgrade on isolated VM and move them later to PROD? I suggest to clone vCenter VM and VM DB first and update on the PROD not cloned servers.

Good luck

  • vCenter 5.5 Update 2 b adapter stop collecting data after vRops 6.2 upgrade

    Hello

I just upgraded my vRealize operations to 6.2, and I work with two servers vCenter - vCenter 5.5 Update 2 b Build 2183111 (Windows OS) and vCenter Server 6 (Linux VCSA Appliance).

After the successful upgrade - stop vCenter 5.5 collect information (adapter stuck on 'Start-up'), the vCenter 6 is very well and continue to collect information.

    What I've done so far:

    1. Restart both vROps and vCenter 5.5.
    2. Click on the Stop button next to the vCenter adapter 5.5 and click on start.
    3. Restart vCenter 5.5, click on stop, then wait for all services of vCenter to get running and click Start.

Anyone who is familiar with this issue and know how to solve? I'll be happy to learn some tips/advice/solutions/solutions to my problem.

    Thank you! :-)

    Hello

You can try to remove the adapter and re - create.

Remove and re-add the adapter Instance

    Remove and re-add (X / +)

Home > Administration > Solutions > choose adapter > Configure (click on the gear icon) >

Save the vCenter display name, Description, IP address of the server, credentials and expand the advanced parameters and note the configuration of collectors/groups (it may be by default group of collector)

    Delete:

Select the Instance of the adapter

Click on the "X" icon to delete the instance.

Do not check the box "delete releated objects '.

    Click the Yes button

Click on the "X" icon to delete the instance.

    Add:

Click the '+' to add the instance.

Enter the display name, Description, vCenter Server IP address, credentials and expand the advanced settings and select the same collectors/groups configuration previously used (it may be by default group of collector)

Click on the button "test connection".

    Review and accept the certificate

(You can select and copy the certificate information and save it for a record)

    Click the 'Save Settings' button

If you are prompted, select this option to Force recording

    Click on the close"" button.

  • steps to upgrade vcenter 5.5 Update 2 b to update the 2nd

Received a security notice that there is a JRE vulnerability and to solve this problem of VMware recommends upgrading to vcenter 5.5 update 2nd my 2B update.  I try to find a doc to follow and do not see anything other than the installation guide initial vcenter.  Everything the world had to update x 2 on the 2nd and is there any concern about?

Begins to get the feeling that all the components must be re-installed-SSO, inventory, Web etc, I really hope this isn't the case.

    Any comment is welcome.

    Thank you

just upgraded on the spot and follow the same steps as the first time installation. you don't need to re - install everything.

  • vCenter 4.1 Update 1 "Guest Operating System support customization"

I was reading the release notes for vCenter 4.1 update 1. I noticed this statement regarding the additional customization support:

"Additional support for customization of the operating system called: vCenter Server now supports the customization of the following systems: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x 32 and x 64)".

    (1) this means that we should not patch our model of Windows 2008 R2 with SP1, if we're still using vCenter 4.1 (without Update 1)?

    (2) in addition, it is possible that someone has already patched our model of Windows 2008 R2 with SP1. What would be the consequences or potential issues if some virtual machines have already been deployed and customized in vCenter 4.1 (without Update 1)?

I doubt I'll see any error, warning or other if I tried to customize, but I want to assure you that it is not some underlying issues that would not easily noticeable.

The reason is simple... SP1 is RTM and will be released in the coming weeks.

First version of vCenter 4.1 can not support only because that there was not.

Does not support does not mean that it is does not work (sorry for the pun).

  • Can I run vSphere 4.1 hosts when you run a 2 vCenter 4.0 update server

Can I run vSphere 4.1 hosts when you run a 2 vCenter 4.0 update server.

The thing is that I don't have a 64 bit OS on my vCenter server and a new requirement was 64-bit DSN on the vCenter.

So I want to install vSphere 4.1 on the hosts and vCenter 4.0 until a new server running is running.

    No, 4.1 hosts need a vCenter 4.1.

My client is slow VM problems that appear to be disk I/O latency on Hitachi storage 1000. I heard in VMware meetings vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solves these problems... without any explanation as to why.

Rumor is that "after working all the angles of the slowness of the virtual machine including vmtools hardware version, latency of storage, etc. called VMware support and advised to get vCenter to U1 to solve the 'known problem' VM performance issues." "U1 fact and problem solved.

It is VMware User meeting and I have no other details.

Customer did not of U1 and having problems of slowness VM believes may be due to the assets/Hitachi 1000 s and favorite paths questions (known to cause problems). Preferred fixed pathing but questions continue.

My limited participation in the issue of troubleshooting in the date limit information available now. It is just an issue if 'known problem' exists and is known to be resolved via U1 vCenter or ESX 4.0 U1?

Not vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solve disk i/o latency issues considered the slow pace of the vm? Why?

  • Incorrect version of vCenter (4.0 Update 1 .iso) on the Download Center?

I just downloaded theVMware vCenter Server 4 Update 1 ISO image, build 208156 (19/11/2009) from the site of VMware download yesterday and did a fresh install of Virtual Center on a fresh Windows 2003 R2 server.  When I run the VI client and check the version # (help, "about VMware vSphere), he pointed out the version 4.0.0 (Build 208111) for the vSphere Client and Version 4.0.0 build 208111 for VMware vCenter Server.

The name of the .iso that I used to install it is: VMware-VIMSetup-all - 4.0.0 - 208156.iso, which is supposed to be

VMware vCenter Server 4 Update 1. so I wonder why I show the older Build # or is that correct? Shouldn't there a newer build? Post edited by: GTPerry

  • VCenter 2.5 Update 1 updated 5 problems with database vim_vcdb

    Hello

I've recently updated the vcenter 2.5 Update 1 to day 5.  Everything was fine, no problem, but now I have windows event log error messages complaining of the log for the database "VIM_VCDB" is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases

The VIM_VCDB database is set to simple recovery mode.

My environment is 6 esx servers and 30 virtual machines.  VCenter is led on a physical server using sql express 2005 for the database.

VIM_VCDB.mdf file size is 640 MB and VIM_VCDB.ldf is 688 MB

I dropped the log file and it reduces to 1 024 k but after about 30 minutes, he pushes to 688 MB size and I get the error again.

    Any ideas?

Could you please try to increase the limit more?

    Thank you.

  • vCenter data recovery - is it upgrade for VCB

    Hello

I wonder if vCenter data recovery is an upgrade for existing ESX enterprise clients using VCB, or it is a new product which must be purchased?

    any ideas?

VMware data recovery is intended as a product recovery and backup of disk to disk for virtual machines.

The product is included in some editions of vSphere and downloadable and add-on for some of the other (for example standard).

    hope that helps,

  • Cannot Upgrade to vCenter 5.5 update 3 b

    Hello

I ran into a little trouble the upgrade on the server vCenter for the 5.5 last update 3: b

For some reason any it keeps failing when you try to install the Vmware SSO components

Specifically, it seems to be failing on the components of Vmware JRE.

I have attached the screen shot of the error as well as the Setup logs.

Have looked through them and I tried to fine a solution myself, I can't seem to find that everything about the JRE components.

I also tried to install separately from the folder vJRE on the dvd

The server is a Windows 2012 R2 and current vCenter is RTM 5.5

    Any help will be appreciated

@COC, you are right, I should have posted my fix as well

    It's here

In the search for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT of the component that is failing, so for me it was that VMware vCenter Server - Java components

Once you find the right component with the name of the product

You will see a string value called transformations

For me, it was pointing to the folder temp of the local user.

I have just a right click transformations and Delete selected

After that the installation went very well.

He had to do the same for the TC server components too

  • Online upgrade to VCenter 4.1 update 4.0u1

    Hi all

I am about to the VCenter 4.0u1 only in 4.1 update on my vsphere infrastructure, the rest of the ESXi can stay in 4.0u1 since there is no performance / big improvement at all.

    I am running:

    Windows Server 2003 Standard R2 SP2 x 64

    SQL Server 2008 SP1 Standard x 64

should I pay attention before the upgrade online of the 4.0u1 for VCenter in 4.1 in the production environment?

any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    AWT

It is a fairly straightforward improvement.  You need however is a 64-bit SQL Native Client.  Additionally, make sure that you back up your DB.

  • Service component of VMware Manager fails to start in vCenter Server 6 Update 2

    Hello

A brief idea of my test environment:

    VCenter servers:

    VC1 - recorded at the psc1 in Site1

    VC2 - recorded at psc2 in Site2

    External Services platform controllers:

    psc1 - Site1

    PSC2 - Site2

    SSO domain: vsphere.local

I upgraded from vCenter Server 5.5 update 3d to vCenter Server 6.0 Update 2. VCenter 5.5 servers had integrated / embedded of SSO and all services running on the same machine and were in modes related before the upgrade and I have them removed modes related before the upgrade. They have been upgraded to vCenter Server 6.0 with Embedded PSC and they entered automatically improved Linked Mode (ELM).

After the previous step, I deployed the PSC external psc1 respectively 2 and psc2 mode of replication with vc1 and vc2 in the same site Site1 and Site2. I migrated then boarded two PSC vCenter servers to their respective partners external PSC of replication by running the command cmsso-util reconfigure - repoint-PSC "psc1/psc2" - administrator user name - domain name "vsphere.local" - passwd "Hasło_Administratora." This operation ended successfully and my vCenter have been reconfigured as vCenter Server with external CFP.

After that, I followed article KB VMware 2127057 (agreements ofdetermination of replication and the State with the service controller 6.0 platform (2127057) |) The VMware KB) do psc1 and psc2 external replication of the PSC 2 partners either by running the command vdcrepadmin-f createagreement-2--h psc2.clifford.local h psc1.clifford.local u Administrator w 'Hasło_Administratora '. I ran this command psc2. Also, this operation succeeded, and when I ask the State of replication of the psc1 of replication partners and psc2, there is nothing wrong. However, after restarting my vSphere Infrastructure, I see that vc1, psc1 and psc2 have all their services started successfully.

VC2 services seem to be failing, especially the service component manager of VMware which is required for many other services start. The VMware HTTP Reverse Proxy service starts properly and I have no IIS role / feature installed on my machine. The error message that occurs when you try to manually start the service is also attached as a file Error2.JPG in the discussion. The Windows event log error is as deeply as the file Error3.JPG in the discussion.

Please let me know how to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Well, I found a solution myself.

In fact, after I created the external PSC 2 psc1 and psc2 partners of replication of the vc1 and vc2 in Site1 and Site2 respectively, I had to immediately follow section KB VMware 2127057 in order to create a replication agreement between the 2 external to the PSC psc1 and before psc2 I reconfigured and show the vCenter servers vc1 and vc2 of on-Board of the PSC outside the PSC following the VMware Documentation (Center of) VSphere documentation 6.0).

    That's all.

Thanks to all for looking into it.
