VCenter Mode servers related to deploy MIS

Hello

It is possible to deploy the solution SRM with an existing vCenter servers with the bound mode runs in vCenter 5.5?

Thanks in advance.

No doubt possible.

  • Limitations of SQL Express 2005 with vCenter linked mode servers

    Hello

    We have a problem at the moment whereby we have reached the limit of 4 GB of SQL Express 2005 and you want to move the database to a dedicated SQL Server. However, one of my colleagues advised he read somewhere that figures recommended for 5 guests and 50 guests for SQL Express are related vCenters signifcantly increased (he thinks a dozen times).

    Is anyone able to confirm/deny this and if confirming point me in the direction of the supporting documentation? I have searched, but am not able to find information reinforcing the above figures.

    Thank you

    Chris.

    Hello

    Recommend VMware SQL Express for small environment, the limit is 5 guests and 50 comments. If you have a linked vcenter environment, you will have a second database for this vcenter. So this vcenter will be able to have 5 guests and 50 comments too.

    But your first database will not increase the limit, you have always the same.

    You can get more information here: VMware KB: vCenter Server 5.0 installation best practices

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express is intended for small deployments of up to 5 servers and/or 50 virtual machines.

    This is for vsphere 5 but the limitation is the same thing on v4.

  • "failure to communicate with the server" related to the vCenter mode

    Hello

    I have two vCenter servers connected in bound Mode.

    On both, I created the same files (via the computers view virtual and models) and the same permissions for the same ad groups.

    When I connect with a user (belong to the relevant AD Group) for vCenter2, I can see the vCenter1 and vCenter2, with the respective folders.

    However, when I connect to vCenter1 (with the same user), I get an error message:

    "There are problems with contacting the following vCenter server:

    "vCenter2: failure of authentication with the server.

    And there's a message in red on the lower right: 'No 1 vCenter Server not connected.'

    My DNS is set up perfectly. I can't do a ping on each vCenter server at once.

    Someone has an idea of what could be the problem?

    Thank you

    Yaniv

    We received the error message was "Failure to authenticate" and "vCenter server not connected" in the lower right corner of the client vSphere for all non-local Windows administrators.  After much research (VMware documentation bad lack), it was determined that one has been denied logon session on the server vCenter Server 4 Type as recorded in the security of the Windows operating system event log.  Connection type 4 is log on as a batch job.  After you apply this permission within the vCenter server's local security policy both (or all), non admin users were able to bind several instances within a single client vSphere vCenter Server successfully.

    Again, this is something that should be held responsible for the VMware documentation.  The delegated admin model is not intended for all operators of vCenter working with local administrative privileges on the vCenter server.

  • Maintenance of two without VCenter ESX servers in a SAN environment

    Hello

    We are now second ESX 3.5 server to go along with good results that we have obtained from the first server.

    Our current server is deployed on a San EVA 4000 and the new server will be deployed in the same storage.

    I was wondering if it is safe and of good practice for storage of data even for both ESX servers, even if we don't have a Virtual Center.

    The ESX serve standalone, but if something happens to the other server I could simply import the files to another ESX.

    The idea is to have another ESX for development and one for the production server. Production ESX should suffer failure, I might just be able to down development machines and put online the production machines.

    I know that this must be done with HA and VMotion. But since I'm not licensed Enterprice, I can't do that.

    So, basically, the question was I should introduce vdisk to two ESX without Virtual Center?

    This will work, but keep in mind if the production machine dies for some reason, the VMDK files may not be in a consistent format to be installed on the development computer.

  • How to clean an installation Vcenter 5.5 missed a second server vCenter linked mode

    Hello

    First of all, my situation:

    I managed to install the following services on a single box:

    vCenter Single Sign-On (Vcenter Single Sign-on to your first server vCenter Server)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

    vCenter Server

    The first properly installed vCenter (SRMVC.test.local).

    I then ran the installation on the second vCenter server (SRMVCDR.test.local)

    vCenter Single Sign-On (vCenter Single Sign-on for an additional vCenter server with a new site)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

    vCenter Server (linked modes) * impossible *.

    I came across a mistake by joining the vCenter linked mode.  I then tried to force who do not have, and installation cancelled.   I think I am facing this problem described in this KB:

    Connecting two servers vCenter fails with the error: error 28039.Setup cannot join vCenter Server group related modes (1026087)

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2006850

    Now, I see a series of problems with the virtual machine that may be the root cause.  When I open the Server Manager there is an error when I try to view the roles or features.   The error I see is:

    Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: element not found (except for HRESULT:0 x 80070490)

    To make a long story short:

    I don't really want to solve the problem on the virtual machine.  I think there could be a problem with the template I've deployed this virtual machine from and I would just blow it way and the redeployment of a new model. The problem is that, in the previous installs, I had trouble to reinstall a second vCenter after a failure to install because different services have already been registered with the first SSO server.

    My question:

    How to completely clean all the necessary components on the first server vCenter after a failed install a second server vCenter mode related?  I think that the second server is not only with its own UNIQUE authentication server, but also with the first server in the SSO site located on SRMVC.test.local.  I want to blow any trace of it so that the environment is pristine and so that I can use the same name of the second vcenter (VCSRMDR.test.local) when I reinstall.

    If the second vcenter also has its own SSO installed on the same machine and the second SSO has been installed in multisite mode (should be Yes, because the main goal is to related modes), you need a clean to the top of the first SSO vmdrd.

    VMware support specific utility to get this done, please file a case for support.

    Installing vCenter isn't going to be a problem, each installation has a user ID application created with the date of installation, this ID and certificate (which should be unique for a new installation, disable ssl programdata folders if re - install) are used to record vcenter to OSP.

    So the old entries will not be a problem for the other components.

    ever since the webclient service, you can remove users from the application:

    Log webclient with [email protected] the first web client.

    Under setting up users and groups, under the users Application tab, you can see all the application registered users.

    To identify that one to remove

    for vcenter, check the file C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\ssoregtool\vssso.properties.

    Once you know the job vcenter ID, you can delete the ID of the other.

    Ditto for the inventory service, the inventory service ID can be found in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\conf\sso.ini

    For webclient files is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphereWebClient\SsoRegTool\sso_conf\solution.ini

    vCenter and webclient has a user record solution with sso, which must be removed from the command line. This is the KB for this: 2033238

    again, you can use the above mentioned files to identify the one to delete.

  • vCenter Linked Mode and Perl SDK

    Hello

    our VMware environment is divided into two physical places represented as two instances of vCenter. The two vCenters are interconnected. I think that its Mode called "related"?

    Is it possible to use the Perl SDK also bound mode? Currently, I have to manually interrogate both our vCenters and then sort out myself.

    (1) How to configure Perl SDK so I only authenticate once against our environment in Linked mode?

    (2) How can I build queries against the API so results will include objects in the two vCenters? That is to say. If I run a ' Vim::find_entity_views (view_type = > 'VirtualMachine') "I want to get all the objects 'VirtualMachine' in the two vCenters I can avoid running two separate queries and then later combining query results? ".

    Thank you!

    Thomas Willert

    It is not a published API method, but there is a way to get the vCenter server list in a group of related modes.  I have an explanation and sample code: http://www.virtuin.com/2012/12/querying-vcenter-linked-mode-with.html

    With respect to authentication, if your vCenter instances use the same permissions (which is recommended), then it's just a matter to authenticate each vCenter.  This is what the native client as well (if you have never installed vCenters with different permissions, you will see the login for each vCenter prompt).

    If you look at the blog post I linked earlier, you self an example of authentication each vCenter as well.  Basically you call Util::connect() two times, once for each of your URL for vCenter.  However, do not delete the global VIM uses the SDK package, or it will default to the last vCenter.  I show in the example script: LinkedModeExample.pl

    With respect to the combination of queries... not so easy.  You need to redesign each vCenter with $vim-> find_entity_views().  Now on a more advanced note, API is powerful enough to make custom inventory queries, you can usually pick up and keep the updates in your objects.

    What I would recommend as a simple approach is two calls to find_entity_views, then push them in a hash or an array.  You'll just want to use the UUID vCenter:

    $vc_uuid is $vim1-> get_service_content()-> {'about'}-> {'instanceUuid'};.

    The instanceUuid has been added in vCenter 4.x and later versions (do not have in the past 2.5 vCenter instances).  Then use this instanceUuid + moref as hash keys.  This is important because the morefs can be duplicated between vCenters.

    So, you can then create a hash:

    My % vm_hash;

    foreach my {$entity (@$vm_views)}

    My $moref = $entity-> {'mo_ref'}-> {'value'}; # will be vm-# for virtual machines

    $vm_hash {$vc_uuid.} "+". $moref} = $entity;

    }

    Then you can quickly research specific VMs and keep separate them between vCenters.

    You'll find it works for simple data queries, but you start to get more items of inventory (say for an inventory report), the relationship becomes more complex and the number of objects grow.  I did work to push these values in a database and files (including by running it on 5 or less than weight and WaitForUpdatesEx), excel, which works well if you have the time to build the DB and the work of database object schemas.  Just use instanceUuid + Moref value as primary key to prevent any moref vCenter cross reuse value.

    The other option is that the vim reference is added to each object, so you can just get the data of each entity:

    foreach my {$vm (@$vm_views)}

    Print "VM:". "." $vm-> {'name'}. "\n";

    Print "InstanceUuid VC:". $vm-> {'vim'}-> {'service_content'}-> {'about'}-> {'instanceUuid'}. "\n";

    Print "ServiceUrl VC:". $vm-> {'vim'}-> {'service_url'}. "\n";

    }

    I have a project that I tinker with in my spare time (which is rare these days) which aims to consolidate multiple vCenters into one database for queries and reports, but I didn't get far enough away from share it (very rude, but works for a subset of data at present, but it is very effective for collecting loose on<5s intervals).="">

    You can also look into VMware Orchestrator.  Orchestrator can connect to multiple vCenters and caches data for access by automation.  According to your WAN performance, he can work a geographic site and make sure that you need (just watch the moref, names of entities and other potential overlap between vCenters) aggregated data.

  • Deploy the model w/o vCenter...

    Greetings...  I have a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine that has been cloned in a model via a feature in vCenter.   I need to deploy this model in our development environment consisting of a host 5.1 ESXi and vSphere client running against her.  We have not vCenter running in our dev environment...   Question: How can I deploy this model w/o vCenter being present?   Is it as simple as a converter any running on the VMDK file, then create a new virtual machine from scratch & pointing to the "existing virtual disk"?   The only thing here, is that in the data store, I have two files VMDK: filename.vmdk and filename_1.vmdk thanks!

    Yes, that sounds good.

    This othe rfilename_1.vmdk should be a second disk on this virtual machine.  So when this template has been created, it looks like someone added a second drive to the virtual computer.  so a C:\drive which would be the filename.vmdk and player E:\Data or something that would be the filename_1.vmdk

    Also because you can not run the configuration wizard that is part of a deployment of the model you will be have sys prep the Windows VM after that it starts to get a convincing identity, otherwise, you will encounter duplicate Active Directory SIDS

    Hope this has helped.

  • Impossible to deploy the model after upgrading to vCenter v4_1

    Hi all

    I updated vCenter Server from version 4.0 to v4.1 and re-registers the hosts.
    Virtual machines are working well and are able to collect data on performance.

    However, when I tried to deploy the model, error occurred and failed to deploy the model.

    (This model were made to vCenter v4.0 environment, before moving on to vCenter v4.1).

    My client needs deploy the model so that it can create a new server next week...

    I looked to the top of the Knowledge Base and found the following information.

    If there is anyone who has solved this problem by following the procedures written in this KB, could you tell me at what level you updated VMware tools for?
    In addition, was the update of the virtual hardware to solve this problem?
    (I hope that the material of the VM is v7, which is the last for ESXv.4.0, update the virtual hardware is not required in my environment :)

    Thanks for you information in advance!

  • vCenter vCenter for desktops vs. servers

    I quote a customer 12 ent + licenses vSphere, VMware View Prime Minister bundle of 10, vCenter Operations manager and Director vCloud for 25. VMs by specifications, for operations and vCloud director you need to have a vCenter license in order to purchase these licenses. When I look in the specs for VMware View Prime Minister, there is a vCenter for included desktop computers. I don't know if I should quote a std regular vCenter for servers license or license notice will focus on what I need. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

    The license of vCenter in vSphere for desktops can only be used with Office workloads.  So to answer your question Yes licecnse included vCenter is identical to vCenter Server standard, it can be used only with Office workloads.  If you use server workloads, you can buy a vCenter license.

  • Problem installing OpenManage for VMWare vCenter integration

    Hello

    I'm trying to use Dell OpenManage integration with VMWare vCenter and have downloaded and deployed with the OVF file.  The virtual machine appears to have installed correctly and I recorded 2 servers by IP address vCenter.  I can connect to the DellAdminPortal page and sign in.  In the Administration Console under vCenter record I see two vCenter server and I get the message

    Success
    The vCenter 172.17.1.30 has been saved successfully. Open a new client vSphere for vCenter 172.17.1.30 so that the changes can be implemented.

    However when I connect to my with the Web Client vSphere vCenter I don't see the icon Dell OpenManage integration under the Administration category.  What Miss me?  I also checked the Administration-> have management and I can only see vCenter Orchestrator, Log Browser and SSO Admin UI Plugin.  About Dell OpenManage.

    I have connected several times and have even restarted the VM OpenManage, but nothing appears.  Any suggestions on what I can do to get this race?

    Thank you

    Scott

    Our web customer support is for vSphere 5.5 only. Please make sure it's the version of vCenter that you run.

    "If you are on 5.5 check if there are two plugin files in C:/ProgramData/VMware/vSphere Web Client/vc-packages/vsphere-client-serenity /" If there is, we have seen that removing the oldest file and restarting the blank Server fixed this issue.

  • CCI: Problem of Initial full deployment

    Hello

    Steps - configured CRS as well as short CIM research following the blog of olivier. Version of the ATG is 11.1.

    As a part of the last stage of the complete installation, created the site and agent of BCC and completed the full deployment. But it failed, so tried

    to recreate the new site and the agent, but he failed again. But since this first deployment has failed, I am faced with one or another error

    related to the deployment and unable to succeed him. I had created a new site and the agent of time. But no luck.

    I'm stuck at this point with the current state as follows: -.

    1 remove the previous site and agent. I followed the correct deletion process, as in, first removed agent and CA site followed by delete the corresponding records in the pub tables - tables cleared - epub_tr_agents, EPUB_TARGET, EPUB_TL_TARGETS, EPUB_PRJ_TG_SNSHT; EPUB_PR_HISTORY; EPUB_AGENT_TRNPRT; EPUB_INCLUD_ASSET; EPUB_PRINC_ASSET; EPUB_AGENT; EPUB_PR_TG_STATUS; epub_project; epub_pr_tg_ap_ts; EPUB_DEPLOYMENT; EPUB_PR_TG_DP_TS; EPUB_PROC_HISTORY; EPUB_PR_TG_DP_ID; EPUB_INT_PRJ_HIST ;)

    The previously generated files deployment fails also excluded the location of the server - < ATG > \home\servers\ATGPublishing\Publishing\deployment\data

    2 restarted servers, no errors for both servers - prod and pub. Created then agent and new site (so I have exactly a site and configured agent)

    3. from IAB, went to-> Configuration-> 'Make the full deployment' option selected and clicked the button 'Make changes Live' and checked the State of presentation tab which is as follows: -.

    The details tab shows - click 'Create an Initial Deployment' button to initialize this site.

    On the Agents tab, shown as 'Locked' and instant id Agent installed is - 11800.

    In the Plan tab, status is showing as 'pending '.

    4 in this State, nothing happens. I'm not able to go forward.

    This isn't a snapshot mismatch error. I checked in dyn/admin and found that there is only a single current snapshot - 11800. Followed by some forums to release the lock status of the agent, I deleted the entry for this avm_devline to this snapshot id - 11800. After that, in order to have the system in a consistent state, I recreated the site agent, removing earlier and restarting servers, but the State of the site, agent is always the same, as described in point 3 above.

    Despite to create the new site and the agent, the agent happens in the locked state with snapshotid installed showing as 11800 and new site status is not queued.

    Also now since I explicitly deleted the snapshot of the table avm_devline, when I checked the snapshot of dyn/admin to check the listed current snapshot, its empty.

    I've attached screenshots of CCB for this case.

    Pointers or the entrance to solve this issue will be of great help.

    Thank you

    Swati

    Thanks for the reply.

    I clicked on 'criticism Reset"which has unlocked all the agents in the system and State of the agent then went idle. After that my deployment of site immediately started and successfully completed.

    Thank you all for reading the post.

  • Where to install Vcenter

    Hi all

    I was in charge of the implementation of a Dell VRTX (5u chassis consolidated with two blades, shared storage and internal switch servers). I installed two server ESXi blades, my question is where can I install vCenter and vSphere to get the operational environment?  Do I need another physical server for this?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Install ESXi vSphere on blades servers, connect to the ESXi vSphere using the vSphere Client (installed on your office desktop) and create a virtual machine for vCenter Server (Windows version) or deploy the vCenter Server Appliance.

    After install or deploy the vCenter, add the two ESXi vSphere vCenter... and depending on your edition of vSphere, create the cluster and configure HA/DRS.

    Since you have a small environment, you don't need an additional physical server just to use as the server vCenter.

  • Deploying replicas on VDI

    Hi all

    I used VMware View 5.0 with clone related to deploy my VDI pool.

    The view composer is installed on the vCenter server. After the deployment of office, I found a virtual os named replicaXXXXXX will be created under my vCenter.

    And the virtual operating system is always poweroff. I wonder what is the replica and its use? For more details, pls see attached photo, thanks in advance.

    N ° do not touch the replica, do not rename anything. Just leave it.

    The snapshot on the main image is used to create the unique replica for each linked clone pool. If I have a machine virtual with 3 different clichés (for example, each has a different background), then those that will be used to create replicas different 3.

    Say (completely made up of service for the sake of example) SP14 out for Windows 7 and I want all the clones of my link to get, I would reconstruct the pool. Actually, this creates a new replica and recreates the linked clones combining them again replica. 'Old' are not removed until all related clones are new. If there is a pool of dedicated linked cloning which has persistent drives those are maintained and moves on the new related clones.

    You can check out the free videos that we / I made to http://www.vmwarelearning.com , only those who could help to explain a part of this.

  • vCenter license requirement

    Hi people,

    I need a suggestion on an urgent basis. I have two sites (PR & DR) with 2 physical servers. I intend to buy the essential kit, which has a bundled vCenter. Now, I want to implement the replication of vSphere, but for this I need a vCenter to each site. So, should I buy the second vCenter separately in order to use the feature of vSphere replication? If yes then which version (essential or standard) and if not then please give advise on how to purchase licenses for development implement replication vSphere solution. Thank you very much.

    Kind regards

    MT Alam

    There are basically 2 scenarios how vSphere replication can be configured. With separate vCenter server instances, you must deploy a unit of replication on each site. With a single server vCenter Server, you deploy the unit of replication on the site of the target with access to the target data store. Whatever you do, make sure you familiarize yourself with the documentation and limits. In a single vCenter Server deployment, you will need to do some manual work, if the vCenter Server is not available at the time you need to recover the replica.

    Also, please be aware that replication does not replace backup!
