vCenter / Vsphere 4.0 data recovery

I have to do a small infrastructure:

n.2 vmware ESX vsphere 4.0

n.1 iSCSI storage

n.1 vcenter server.

Can I use entire vmware vcenter server data recovery? I have an another iscsi storage to make backups.

Best regards.

Yes, vCenter vSphere 4.0 is required for vDR and will be necessary. Take a look at the comparison table of different editions: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

Most resembles the way forward or you can use advanced or higher if you need more features.

You can also buy the vDR separately as a la carte in question, take a look at how to buy for vDR: http://www.vmware.com/products/data-recovery/buy.html

  • vSphere includes VMware Data Recovery... correct?

I was looking at the VMware data recovery product and it is pretty cool... until I saw that you had to buy it.  Then I saw this:

"VMware Data Recovery is included in vSphere Enterprise Plus, advancedand Essentials Plus editions"

But we have 'Enterprise '.  So I can't imagine you advanced include this product, but Enterprise does not work?  Are not undertaken a step upwards to advanced?  Then shouldn't company not also understand this?  According to me, it's a bit unfair - but I hope it's just a bad impression.

You are right in saying that the company includes Data Recovery. Go to the link below for comparisons of editing:

  • vCenter, ESX (3.5 & 4), data recovery

The data recovery component can be added to an ESX 3.5 or 4.0 server?

If Yes, what is the pn and the cost?

    ?:|

You can add the data recovery for ESX 4.0 ratings (SKU: VS4-STD-C + SnS is required)

But you also need to vCenter Server, cause of data recovery is integrated into this tool.

  • vCenter data recovery - is it upgrade for VCB

    Hello

I wonder if vCenter data recovery is an upgrade for existing ESX enterprise clients using VCB, or it is a new product which must be purchased?

    any ideas?

VMware data recovery is intended as a product recovery and backup of disk to disk for virtual machines.

The product is included in some editions of vSphere and downloadable and add-on for some of the other (for example standard).

    hope that helps,

  • VMware Data Recovery 2 in a vCenter Server

    Hi all

I need a base backup of VMS backup solution. I know that each camera VDR is bounded to vCenter server, you might not use vcenter several with one camera VDR. But in a sense the opposite? I use several VDR devices with a vCenter server? I know about the limits of the VDR and probably I can achieve limit of 2 TB and only solution in this case use another camera VDR, but I don't know if it is possible to use more than a VDR with a vCenter.

You can use up to 10 of VDR with a VirtualCenter.

Look at the "VMware Data Recovery Administration Guide" on page 16:

    Special data recovery Compatibility Considerations:

Ten aircraft recovery backup of data for each instance of vCenter server.

  • ESXi 4.1 + VMware Data Recovery 1.2 (without vCenter)

    Hello

I installed VMware Data Recovery 1.2 on my ESXi 4.1 and when I connect to VMware Data Recovery I get the message "connected to the ESX Server, automatic backups will not be made.

This means that scheduled backups only work if I receive vCenter? I without vCenter run backups manually?

That is right. vDR is configured to discover your VM inventory via vCenter. The vDR is designed to provide a central interface for your VM backup/restore via vCenter.  The cool thing about this is that vDR keep track of your virtual machines if you transfer them via vMotion, HA, DRS, etc. But, Yes, you NEED vCenter.

  • Deduplication before vSphere VMware data recovery 4

    Hi people,

I decided to give a try to the Vmware Data Recovery product. I have recently updated our 3.5 ESX to vSphere 4. I installed the plugin for recovering data and the device, and I think that it does not work as it is supposed to, but I have a question.

I read the documentation about the product to recover data and on page 8 of the admin guide, there is a note on the optimizations not applied to virtual machines created with vmware vSphere products 4.

I vmotioned my machines windows and upgarded their vmware tools and equipment of 7 virtual machine. I was wondering these machines were created with ESX 3.5 and now that I've migrated to vSphere 4, doesn't that mean that deduplication will not take place with data recovery products when I'm in my data store backup? or am I misunderstanding this?

    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Once you upgrade older VMS v4 to v7 hardware virtual machine, then they are the same.  Discover the answer of amina in this discussion.

    Good luck!

  • Data recovery is running indefinitivly

    Hello

    running VMWare Vcenter 5.0.

When you enter data store manager Equallogic under VSphere client (V5.0), on the left column, the name of my Vcenter, and normally, under the present it seems the cluster, then the data store; but it only shows "data recovery" and not going anymore.

So I run VSphere Client from another PC, and it worked because the same problem occur.

    What's wrong?

    Thank you to.

  • Installation location of data recovery

This seems to be a stupid question, but data recovery software VMWare (not the device component) is supposed to be installed on the VCenter server or a host computer that you use to connect to VCenter with the VSphere client?  I guess that's the VCenter server, but I keep seeing people talk about using data without VCenter recovery so it looks that it can be installed on a client that connects to the VCenter server via the VSphere client.

    Thank you... Rich.

    Hello

Yes, it's a client plugin that can be installed on any machine where you make the VI client sessions to your server host or vCenter.

  • Attached data recovery problem size Raw LUN

We have a problem with our unit of recovery to Date.

We have a matrix of about 12 TB discs intended to save our VMs.

So, I try to join VM recovery given as a raw LUN.

I saw 10.9 TB plug in recovery. try to format... it seemed to me that it works.
But when I ride it, it was presented as a 2 TB drive.

    Umount - 10.9 Tb
    Mont - 2 TB

The next step... I have connected to the computer of data recovery (I mean it's just a CentOS behind). And try to make a hand partion using parted and mkfs.

parted worked well (with TPG as the label).
    So I launched
    mkfs.ext3/dev/sdb1

It took a lot of time, went up to
"Writing Superblocks and filesystem accounting information.
and it seems that it crashes.

mkfs still present in the process, but it seems that it do nothing.

It's probably a problem with the ext3 file system.
    But
    (a) it seems I might have an ext3 file system larger than 2 TB.
    (b) ext4 is not available on CentOS of data recovery... so what could I do?

So... maybe someone has a tip for this problem?

    Thank you very much.

P.S.: Just for the record, we have 3 ESXi5 host with vCenter 5.

I'm not 100% sure why you see the wrong size RDM, but make sure you read the Administrators Guide.

    of http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vmware-data-recovery-administrators-guide-20.pdf

Data recovery is designed to support deduplication stores that are up to one terabyte of size and each appliance backup is limited to the use of two stores of deduplication. Data recovery imposes no limits on the size of the stores of deduplication, but if the size of a store exceeds a terabyte, performance may be affected. While data recovery imposes no limits on deduplication store size, other factors limit the actions of deduplication. So, the stores of deduplication are limited to:
-500 GB on CIFS network shares
    -1 to VMDK and RDM

  • Available in the company VMware data recovery?

I'm trying to figure if VMware Data Recovery is available with the Enterprise license.

If you see that the page VDR says that it is only available in Enterprise Plus, advanced and Essentials Plus Edition.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/data-recovery/

But if you check that page compare shows THAT VDR is available in Advanced and Enterprise.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/vSphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

    Brennan-

Data recovery is available for download from vSphere ESX(I) and vCenter Server downloads.  Download of data recovery will include a device to the OVF format, a vCenter plug-in and a restoration of file system component.  There is a simple installation guide, but basically, install the vCenter Plugin on your client computer, import the OVF, Plugin allows you to configure the device of data recovery.

Let me know if you get stuck - I can give you advice a little more if you have a specific problem.
