vCOPS 5.8.4 vrops 6.2 migration

Hello guys,.

Need help lil.

I'm stuck at the migration of data and vCOPS 5.8.4 vrops 6.2 migration, I see no option to import.

The VROPS 6.2 release note says http://pubs.VMware.com/Release_Notes/en/vrops/62/vrops-62-release-notes.html

----------------------------

Migration need vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x
You cannot migrate Manager vCenter of operations directly to this version of Operations Manager vRealize. Instead, you follow a two-step process to migrate and import vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.x in vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x, and then use the vRealize update the software of the operations manager of the vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x to this version upgrade option.

---------------------------

But I can't find a procedure, it means that I'll have to delete newly install vrops 6.2 and install 6.0 and after migration, upgrading to 6.2?

Any reference to powercli for 6.2 you know too.

Thank you

Kapil

Hello

You will need to create a new vROPs with version 6.0. Select migrate data. Once you compelete the migration, you can download upgrade package to 6.2 and apply on 6.0 device.

  • 6 oversized report VM VROPS

I just upgraded a few weeks VCOP 5.7 to Vrops 6.0.1

In VCOPs, we had more than 400 virtual machines listed as "oversized".  In the new Vrops with migrated data, we show that 30?  It is quite a difference.  Even if analytics has been tweaked, I don't see how he could say that we have 30 VMs together in our overall environment that are "oversized".   All works in this, or have any ideas about radical change?

    Everything depends on your strategy...

The default policy to vROps only the list oeversized if the recommended savings is greater than 50%.

    Example:

If you had accrued 10 GB of RAM recommended should be 5 GB or less so that it appears in the report.

The default policy to 5.8 has been brutal with his recommendations as usually without adjustment you'd end up chasing your tail with resizing.

The vROps policy is much less aggressive and more realistic.

  • How to convert heat maps vCOPS to vROPS?

    Hi all

I want to convert the following heatmap from vCOPS to vROPS:

For each data store, virtual machines currently have the use of I/O and higher latency?

It seems that this one is missing from vROPS. I created the following new heatmap:

It seems to work, but the heatmap appears only when I select the vCenter, a data center, a cluster, a host or a virtual machine. But not when I select a data store. It's kind of counterintuitive, in vCOPS you option case more small, which no longer exists in vROPS.

Is it possible to create a heatmap, which works like the old vCOPS one?

    Kind regards

    jengl

This configuration is not something I would recommend. You have a child object defined as the... for example data store group used for grouping of VMs. VMs can reside on several data stores, so that you would end up with a display laminated with logic that cannot succeed (you can't logically box a virtual machine inside two containers of data at the same time store) ", you might get multiple representations of the same VM). I suggest to use something that you can actually combine a virtual machine as reliable as anything beyond the virtual machine (host, cluster, file, etc.). Outer grouping is "Group By", internal grouping is "then by". Smaller box will still be the selected object type, unless your doing instances.

  • Lack of solution of migration VRealize Op Manager 6.0.1

    Hi guys,.

I'm migrating vcop 5.8.1 to VROP 6.0.1 but I found something missing in the process. It's called 'VMWARE' only and there is no description of it. No idea what it is?

OK, never mind that I was installing vROP on r2 2012 which is not officially supported.

    Thanks in any case.

  • vROPs 6.2 VM Tags gone

vROPs 6.1 had all my tags VM and excellent work.  I used the label s VM by customer tags and generated a report for billing using the tags so invoicing could verify that the configuration of the VM equal bills.  (I know, Chargeback Manager, don't ask).  Then I upgraded to 6.2 and vSphere Tags (summary: vSphere Tag) is missing as well as the number of hard drives.

    Environment:

I got vROPs and made the upgrades on the spot, using the method in the release notes for download files PAK etc..

11/02/2016-12:22:26 logbuildversion Build Version: VMware vCenter Operations Manager 6.2.0 build 3528867

Two vCenters monitored by vROPs.  A version 6.0 build 3339083 and the other 5.5 build 1945274 (don't ask)

    19 guests (ESXi versions 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 majority a couple U1a tests)

Approximately 215 active VM of depending on the day.

    Diagnosis and symptoms:

    VMS with tags are on the vCenter 6 environment running on 10 hosts with 3 different versions of ESXi 5.5 - 2302651, 3248547 - 5.5 & 6.0 - 3380124

The report does not show the tags so it eliminates the problems of browser of the equation.

I tried to wait longer to see if the data just had to be re-populated.

I have validated that vSphere adapters were always recorded and work.

Changes which are reflected in the report as the assignments of vCPU and vRAM day assignments in a reasonable amount of time so data are from VMS with success.

I found this thread: Re: not seeing vSphere tags when you create custom in vROps groups

I have times restarted the device & recheck policies are set to collect the tags of vSphere

I have validated the tags are still on the virtual machines in question according to vCenter

I tried to create a group using tags as the user in the forum, "load more" does not have records of all

I tried to create a new view, but using 'vSphere world' for the sample data had the same result.

I see nothing shocking in the newspaper collector.

Any other ideas or thoughts in addition to one for the opening with the support?

    Thank you.

I finally got a case of opening time and I got the answer on the tags specifically

    Support:

"It is generally solved using first the account [email protected] to register the adapter vSphere in vRealize Operations Manager... just restart the collector service to see if the tags come in."

The problem is vCenter 6 changed the location of the tags and permissions to access this area.  vROPs team is working on a fix, but there is still no ETA on this patch.  Change the credentials back to the SSO administrator to get permissions.  If, like me, you use a service account, you will need to create a custom role (if you don't have not one already) and in the role permissions make sure you that you select items in the "Global" category (screenshot attached).  It's not good enough for you to change the credentials.  Something else happens when tags begin just to come.  You need to restart the collector who support done via SSH to my server vROPs and run the command 'service vmware-vcops collectorservice restart '.

    Hope this helps someone else.

  • vCOps 5.8.4 not reflecting is not some changes to the VMS in vCenter

    Hi all

Number of things I've noticed since this new facility.  I'm a bit new to the product so go easy on me.

When I make a change recommended that a computer virtual based on an oversized VM report, for example, the change is not reflected.  The changes took place 24 hours ago, I expect to see that, in a new report, I would think.  Also, if I migrate virtual machines from 1 host to another host that the change is not reflected in the tree.  The only way I could get this show had to restart the GUI admin vCOps.  I have waited days after the vmotions and don't see anything.  Any ideas on that?

    Thanks, Jake

You can clear your Java Cache also although I suspect that this may be the culprit.

  • migrate custom dashboards

    Hello

After three failures trying to migrate our installation vCOps 5.8.4 6.0.1 I decided to start from scratch with 6.0.1.

Everything works well now in the 6.0.1 installation costs - but without any of my beautiful homegrown dashboards.

Y at - it no change to import my dashboards customized since the old 5.8.4 instance to 6.0.1?

I know that eventually they will not work out of the box because internal IDs etc. have changed. But just to have as a framework and turn the objects and settings inside would help a lot.

If anyone sees a chance, or do I have to recreate everything manually? :-/

    Best regards

    Daniel

Hello, of course. You can import other dashboard installation old/other vCOPs. Take a look at the attachment. Goodbye, Henry

  • vRops does not show al my vCenter objects

    Hello

I was struggling with my new installation vRops. I imported the data of my installation of vCops, but I only see two of my 50 guests (both hosts that are not part of any cluster) en only 175 of 479 virtual machines.

When I check the Administration - view set of environment I see all objects are there. When I perform a discovery is opposed however, not all objects are found.

My vCenter connections test all the beautiful and the credentials are configured with an account with administrator access to vCenter. What could be wrong?

Also, when I start my web vSphere client and you select an object, I get a notification "could not load the view configuration data. I have no 'Health' tab in the web client. In the c# client, I see a vRops plugin 6.0.0.

I have not vCenter with the old vCops and vCenter registered with vRops.

With the help of our account at VMware Manager, we opened a Service request for that matter. We have replaced the file vmwarevi_adapter3.jar in accordance with this article: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VROPS-600&productId=468&rPId=7122. This solves our problem.

If you have a Windows installation, the file is located here: \vmware\vcenter-operations\vmware-vcops\user\plugins\inbound

  • VROPS 6.0-5.1 ESXi crossing

Ok.  I get conflicting information.  For vROPS 6.0 release notes say it must support 5.1 ESXi monitoring hosts, but the matrix product Intercompatiblity said anything other than 5.5 is only supported.

It seems that even if I did have any warning during migration than 5.5 is only supported as no other host saves the data.  Is this true?  Or am I missing something?

Can anyone confirm that they monitor with vROPS 6.0 5.1 ESXi hosts?  If so, no matter what special config on the side of the vROPS?  Or I'm crazy to think it should work?

I can confirm that we vROPS 6.0 running and monitoring 5.1 ESXi hosts Yes.

We also monitor a 3.5 host esx on a vCenter 4.1. Collecting metrics very well... Probably not taken in charge, but that market...

  • 5.8.3 configuration of vCOps import problems

I'm trying to import data from my vCOps 5.8.3 installation to my new vROps 6.0 installation.  When on the screen "Select source" I put the IP address of the system vCOps, the admin password and press "Add Source".  I get the warning that an agent must be installed on the system of vCOps, click 'OK', then am handed the certificate of the server vCOps. I check the box to 'Accept this certificate' and press 'OK', and it goes to a "Loading" icon... ».  In a minute or two, then I get a Java error that says:

"Error occurred while trying to get information on the source of 5.8.1 system system: message = unexpected character ('G' (code 71)): expects a value valud (number, String, array, object, 'true', 'false' or 'null') to [Source: java.io.StringReader@4379be76;]. "[line: 1, column: 2]".

I find it odd that it references a 5.8.1 system when we run 5.8.3 (verified via the menu 'About' in the UI vCOps).  I'm not sure if this is part of the issue or if it is assuming that one 5.8.1 or version later as 5.8.1 is the minimum version supported.  The vCOps and the vROps are set it up based on the device.  I don't have any special adapters installed, just the 'out of the box' vSphere adapters.  Two virtual machines are on the same subnet and the same ESX host, so there should not be problems with firewall.  I followed the steps of pre - req for confirming that I have adequate resources on both systems, as well as disabling dynamic threshold on the source system.

I'm a bit of a loss as to what this might be, unless my source is incorrectly identified as 5.8.1 instead of 5.8.3, and it is therefore for the erroneous identification string that is causing problems with Java.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

It turns out that I had a problem with DB corruption.  When we arrived the fixed DB it works as expected.

  • Management Pack for storage devices > > applicability version vrops?

Just deployed vROPs to our environment in addition to vCOPs (for a little longer). I've gotta say other than the ridiculous name this product is a great step in the right direction. Much less clumsy than vCOPs. We are licensed for Standard edition vCOPs. We use vsphere 5.5.

The Management Pack for the sounds to add storage devices as a great way to control the storage of end-to-end. Does anyone know what editions of vROPs this pak of management that can be installed on? I have a bad feeling, it's advanced and Ent.

    Thank you

There is a new Management Pack for 6.0 storage devices that can be installed on a SD or vR Ent Ops edition.

  • Integration of vCO and vCOps

I need to get information from vCOps and it allows you to build workflows in vCO.  I use vrealize operations 6.0.  Now - I understand vCOps a REST API

How can I use REST vCOps 6.0 API to query vCOps and take action based on the result?  Examples of workflow like this?

    Hello

I just answered the same question in another thread... :-)

The API of CaSA is Cluster and Administration of the Group and is located at https://vrops-url/casa

I have not found any documentation for it.

What you need is https://vrops-urlsuite - api

It is a small site with sample code and complete documentation. You can even call the API directly from your browser!

Start with this, for example: https://vrops-url/suite-api/api/resources? name =something

  • VCOPS + re-installation vCenter

    Hi all

I have a question 'bit '... I would spend my vCenter from physical to virtual, but I do not want to reinstall vCOPS, Infr'action. Browser and rebilling.

The new vCenter will have the same settings of the former vCenter (certificates, IP, ecc.) and will connect to the DB even.

It is possible to migrate in these terms without problems?

    Thank you all!

    Matrix

If you run the migration steps, you will use the same DB and SSL keys, so it wouldn't matter to the other components of VMW. You will implement the new vCenter and also your organizational structure will be preserved. Fortunately, you can test it again and again with a food safe... e.g. the old server.

  • Question on vCOPS and Exchange

    Hi guys.

I just read that vCops can follow MS Exchange DAG, with visibility of the app too, and I want to migrate from 5.6 to 5.8.

VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite 5.8 announcement | VMware - VMware items Cloud management

The version of vCenter 5.8 operations includes increased support for Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange

    Question

If I want the vCops can see Exchange, it is necessary to have installed vfabric? I don't like vFabric :|

    Thank you.

The ability you are referring is the one offered by integration of Hyperic with vC Ops. Hyperic collects the necessary information of Exchange and SQL Server, which is then collected by vC Ops. vC Ops dashboards, which is presented in this article, you made reference, by virtue of having the Management Pack Hyperic installed and configured to collect data of Hyperic.

If you want your data in vC Ops of Exchange or SQL Server application, you must deploy vFabric Hyperic. You can also get these data in other products such as SCOM, however integration of 3rd party is not under discussion here. The emphasis on the article you mentioned was integrate Hyperic with vC Ops, since you get Hyperic and rights vC to the Ops product with the property of the CV Ops.

  • Backup to vCOps strategies

I would like to know what success / recommendations people have had with different strategies of backup for vCOps.

Problem: In a large environment your VM vCOps becomes very large (> 2 TB of virtual disk).  In addition, if you use the strategy 'add a virtual disk that you need', then you can added 3 or 4 virtual disks to your Analytics VM vCOps since its inception.  Then you end up with say 4 virtual drives 600 GB each.  Your backup software goes and takes a snapshot of your VM Analytics trying to back it up. Each virtual disk is then a Flash disk created for her.  Your backup software should then remove the snapshot when you are finished.

We have seen our (Avamar) backup software not handle this very well and the situation does not work due to the large size of the virtual machine, virtual disks and need to resolder the snapshots for these large virtual disks later.

I wonder what backup solutions work for you for vCOps in light of the following considerations / issues:

    • Preferably at the image level and no comments-backup is best to facilitate automation and ease of management
    • If virtual disks create more problems, must we create fewer and larger discs to first reduce complications.
    • Which scenario is more prone to errors, a snapshot of a huge vmdk and reconsolidation thereafter, or a snapshot of a large number of small discs of each partner drive delta needing to be reconsolidés in his record parent?
    • What level of surcharge should be reserved in the VM Analytics data store to facilitate a level backup image with its process of decision-making and consolidation of snapshots?
    • Since the VM analytics can be a data store all 2 TB to himself, at the level of the instant group could be on the LUN.  However, there is no utility in vCOps to ensure consistent table snapshots so that the vCOps database empty his info on the disc and the VM data are compatible with the snapshot at the level of the group.  (For example, a tool like NetApp SnapManager for Exchange)  What is the impact / problems lies in restoring vCOps by restoring the LUN of a snapshot on Bay?  Has anyone made this work?

    Thanks for your comments

Image-level or VM level backups are preferred to the guest backups.

Personally, I use VMDK ~ 500GB to allow allowed easier maintenance as storage vMotions. Largest VMDK can be a bit of a bear to work if your storage media/protocol is not sized to handle the migration of VMDK 1 TB.

The preference of large VMDK to the smallest vmdk regarding snapshots is just preference... When you post snapshots on the drive they all have the same kick-off time anyway. I'd almost greater VMDK with less than total shots would be easier since less simultaneous tasks to perform on the host and you are still limited by piles of storage even in any case there may be a better answer out there if spend you sifting through the storage mgmt whitepapers.

Lack of air space for the VMDK, it would probably depend on what time of day you run the backup. It will be more read/write activity during DT and cron in the calendar of AM midnight-1-2, so I would say that target just after the opening hours for backups, so they are done ~ midnight. You can check you vC Ops disk activity to know when your busy periods, but they prob will be midnight-early AM. On overhead... Just leave enough for snapshots. If you can, at the SAN level backups are sometimes easier LUN containing the vC unit Ops so you don't have to worry about the free space data store. I can generalize and let say 10-15% free on my data stores, but it depends on the size of your data warehouse, if they are dedicated to the CR Ops, and that your data change rate is on the virtual machines on this data store (just don't run of disk space!)

If you make a snapshot at the level of the group, make sure that the vC Ops LUNS are in the same consistency group or all what he calls your particular storage provider. It's the same concern if you use, let's say, RS to replicate virtual machines to a different storage group. The vC Ops unit is rugged enough and you should not need to worry about comments to the level of rinse agents data (this isn't like SQL)... generally, it is accepted practice to make a snapshot of the device and treat it as a black box.
