vCPU and MS SQL 2012

Hello

Could someone tell me how can I set the parameters of vCPU.

I'll install this machine to 3 virtual servers. 1 Win 2012 Server + MS SQL Server 2012 which point in the most important and most difficult. 2 Win 2008 DC (low voltage). 3 Win 2008 FTP (low voltage).

server.JPGmem.JPG

vcpu.JPG

I think, I will give 2 servers. and 3. 1vCPU and 1core. And 4-8GB mem by server.

But how can I configure SQL Server for best performance?

JM

Hello

First, check the current configuration of the you with new software and if the new software has poor performance on the virtual machine, and then add core to this.

The subject of memory, try to start with the minimum recommendation and then add memory until the performance is not good for you.

Finally on vCPUs, he is not different between 2/2 or 1/4 because ESXi 4 hearts to your virtual machine, but it's different for the guest operating system because guest OS see the casings and carrots.

You should consider it for your licence application, for example a license applications is by socket and you must purchase a license for each socket.

I recommend, add 1 Plug and 4 hearts to your new virtual machine.

  • Support the vCenter running on one database group availability of AlwaysOn SQL 2012?

I've encountered this question a lot, especially now that people are making more and more SQL 2012 AlwaysOn groups availability.  VMware supports the database of vCenter running on a SQL 2012 AlwaysOn Dag?  I know that vCenter 5.5 now supports SQL 2012 AlwaysOn Failover Clustering (with a shared mode RDM LUN), but I can't find any support statements about the SQL 2012 AlwaysOn availability groups, that make use of the Microsoft replication technology rather than share LUNs.  Does anyone know if VMware has an official statement about this configuration for vCenter?  (Also for extra credit, how about you Update Manager, SRM and the database of the VMware View events?)

    N ° they do not.

What's worse, is that not looking at it that your support contract says, you only get "best effort support" for your environment.

  • Clean uninstall SQL 2012

    Hi team,

A few days ago I tried to uninstall SQL 2012 from my laptop that I used it no more. Even after uninstalling SQL 2012, there were some components SQL in "Programs and features" and a folder named SQL in C drive

I deleted the SQL of the C drive folder and some SQL (program and features) of my system components.

Now, there are some programs are still there in the Control Panel - programs and features.

1 Microsoft Visual Studio pre conditions English

2 Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Application time 3.0 design

3 Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for running the x 86 Application 3.0

I'm afraid that if I uninstall these my mobile functionality could be hampered.

Can I uninstall the programs mentioned above?

    Hello

Some applications like some versions of Microsoft Office applications, InfoPath and others use Visual Studio for Applications.

Visual Studio Prerequisites is used to deploy the components referenced by applications.

I recommend you don't uninstall them. They are very small and they are not known to create problems of performance or security problems.

    I hope this helps.

Only, we migrated to SQL 2008 R2 SQL 2012 and better hardware.  We have not changed any code; but the compilations/went from ~ 30 to 600 to 800.  CPU is really good.  The performance is good. Signal waits for cent get up every now and then until 34 (previously it was always below 25%) and the procedure cache hit ratio goes down sometimes to 88% (previously it was always greater than 95%).  We are really concerned about the compilations per second.  Can someone give an idea of why this is happening?

    Hello

first of all, I have good malware scanner and then pull up to your CMD prompt and run in ADMINISTRATOR mode... scan files

so it will look like this on the fast line

    sfc/scannow

If it detects the wrong files it will try and fix...

Once that is done and all seems good... Run windows update... and make sure that all THE DRIVERS are updated... There was an update in last 6-8 wks is hitting all the settings, but MS does not move fast on this...

Make sure you restart after every high driver you do as she needs... otherwise nothing will change... go read the forums for malware on bleeping computer dot com and tech guy... you will see a lot of us dealing with this and you will see bugs... these forums are free

  • Link SQL 2012 or 2016 with a form in Dreamweaver

I am a novice in Dreamweaver.

Can you help me understand the process of linking a form in Dreamweaver to table SQL 2012?

    Books or references?

    Thank you very much

    Steve

You do not link to a sql database, you must use the code side server by using one of the languages on the server side.

There are a number of languages on the server with the more common in PHP and c#, which can be used with Microsoft sql databases side. Unfortunately, these are certainly not for a novice. A quick Amazon or similar search will show a number of books available for both.

As you arise the question well I would not recommend trying to learn PHP or c# until you have a good knowledge of html and css, (with possibly javascript).

  • Logging SQL 2012 does not work

I installed Log Insight Manager 2.5 GA (Version 2.5.0 - 2347850) and install the agent on a Server Standard SQL 2012 and also installed the SQL management pack but nothing appears in the Insight journal.

Is this a configuration problem? I've set up on another SQL server server and see if that does the same thing.

If it's a permissions issue then you could increase the debug_level 1 by adding

    [record]

    debug_level = 1

and then look at the log of the agent. You can also try to change the include

    include = ERRORLOG *.

or remove the option include all together and that the agent collect all files in this directory.

  • SQL 2012 still on the use of affinity rules

    Hey guys,.

I use SQL 2012 alwaya time on in a virtual, but so far, it is not configured as best practices and environment I wanted to change that.

At the moment I have no DRS rules in place so it can happen that two virtual machines running on the same host and it's something I want to avoid.

However, my big problem is that I only got a SQL license for two hypervisors and best practices talked about four hosts who are needed to achieve my goal.

Here is what I intend to implement:

-Affinity rule machine virtual-VM to separate two virtual machines

-Affinity VM host rule which VM1 MUST run on ESX1

-Affinity VM host rule that VM2 MUST run on ESX2

This configuration is a good idea or could / should I do something different?

What I found that all the features how for example the evacuation and HA should still work?

There are many more ESX servers in this group and they will be used in the case of an outtage, right?

Also there is a dev environment that looks the same. I could include the hosts in the same VM-Host affinity rules or should I create new ones?

BTW. I am using vCenter and ESX 5.5.0.

    Thank you very much!

    See you soon

    Nicolai

Affinity rules those you intend to sense. These rules will not be those virtual machines to be on the same host most of the time.

    Note:

1 rule of VM host is configured as "SHOULD", in extreme cases, DRS can break these rules. However, in the next invocation of DRS, DRS will try to resolve the violations.

    2. Note that: when you keep either the host in maintenance (ESX1 or ESX2) mode, you must manually migrate the VM to another host due to the virtual-VM anti rule machine affinity. DRS even in full auto mode, VM will not be migrated automatically. This will apply only if there are only 2 host in the cluster.

    3. Yes, HA should well with that: however HA is not aware of the rules 'EXPECTED' and in the case of host failure it can not respect 'SHOULD' rule.

4 rule anti-affinite VM - VM can be sensitized HA using the advanced option. Let me know if you want to help with that.

    5. Yes, failure of other hosts in the cluster will be used but please updated on impact due to rules & licenses.

    6. "There is also an environment-dev which looks the same." I did not follow what exactly you mean here:

7 migration threshold settings DRS is also important.

8 DRS gives priority to the prevention of violations of anti-affinity rules machine virtual-VM that violations of rules of affinity. (it's just for your info.)

    Nevertheless,.

    1. If ESX1 falls down or affinity rule VM host that VM1 MUST run on ESX1 gets violated: VM1 can be migrated to other hosts in the cluster. As you have no licenses (more than 2) SQL, how it would be dealt with (I'm not very updated on the SQL licenses)

2 point above applies to the second rule of VM HOST as well.

    Hi guys,.

I have a project to move our of vCenter company database in SQL 2008 R2 Cluster at our new farm of R2 SQL 2012, is it as simple as:

    1. backup of database

    2 restore database in SQL 2012 R2

    3. set up new DSN (SQL Native 11 for 2012 R2?) pointing to vCenter server

OR is there more to him because of the differences between SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 R2?

  • Clusering SQL 2012 on ESX 5.1

    Hello

Can someone tell me the current state of Microsoft Cluster Services with Vmware Esxi 5.1? This link says that it supports HA and DRS:

VMware KB: Microsoft Clustering on VMware vSphere: guidelines for supported configurations

This link says that it is not:

I'm looking through availability of AlwaysOn SQL on a 5.1 ESXi cluster groups and want to confirm the status of HA and DRS support on this cluster? My availability of AlwaysOn SQL group won't use shared storage (witness file share that will be used), but it is always based on the Microsoft Clustering Services. I think to create 2 WindowsServer 2012 SMV, Setup Windows clustering services with haste VMDK thick set to zero (no RDM), on a cluster HA and DRS activated, but DRS and HA disabled for my cluster of virtual machines. This is a supported scenario?

It would be good to hear from people who have something similar.

    Thank you

Follow the article. With your Setup program that do not rely on the shared disk, SQL 2012 VM in the AlwaysOn Availaibity group will be just an another VM and can be protected by HA. It can also use vMotion and DRS.  Just install anti-affinites rules to make sure that the SQL VM do not sit on the same ESXi host.

  • RDM SQL 2012 Cluster VMs on separate host

    Greetings,

I'm looking to use RDM for a SQL Cluster in 2012 and go though the process of adding storage the second node shared, I'm a bit confused.

I'm referencing Document from VMware, "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service". I'm following the steps under "Clustering of virtual machines between physical hosts.  So, I advanced and added my LUNS that are on shared in the ROW to the first node storage.  The next step is to add the hard drive the second node, but this process requires me to select "use an existing drive" and select records that represent the ROW that are stored in the data store where host1 exist.  The document indicates, "select physics like compatibility mode, and then click Next.  The only option I get is, choose the Mode: persistent, Nonpersistent, or None.  I don't have an option to specify the disk as is physical or not.  I did when I created the RDM for the first host.

Also add the disks as RDM should I stored with the virtual machine (which is on the shared storage) or should I create a separate data store and specify the data store that is on the same shared storage.  Since each of the RDM are separate LUN on the shared storage, I think I'm curious to know if its better to choose the option to store in a different data store, then with node 1.

Any clarification on this is greatly appreciated.

    See you soon

I suppose you want to create SQL 2012 Cluster of virtual machines on physical hosts. Please see the steps below.

I think that there is a typographical error in documents that you won't get the same " physical compatibility mode" option again The disc is already created with a physical as on VM - 1 compatibility mode. Now you have to go with the "select Mode: persistent ' on vm - 2. Once you are done with VM - 2, VM - 2 right click, select the hard disk and observe the compatibility mode is selected physics only.

RDM disks can be stored on the same data store shared where virtual machines are created or separate shared data warehouses. As your wish where you want to keep. One thing must remember two data stores must be shared with the two physical hosts.

    Thank you
