vDS causes

Hello

I need some suggestions on vDS

I'm running vswitch so dv01 and VM02 running in a single port group SMV (100) can ping each other then I implement a vDS private VLAN insulation to stop the rattling of the other.

at this point, I already have 100 name trunk portgroup in a physical switch that I already use in vswitch.

my questions,

1 - What are the settings needed to modify the physical switch to use a port trunk-ed even group that previously I was using as a normal portgroup in vswitch.

2 - my all other management servers are physical like a DNS, Exchange - isolation vDS VLANS will allow them to access the DNS/Exchange?

VirtualRay Hey,.

If your PVLAN is 100 your physical switch must have the ability to manage the PVLANs, if not you will have to pass the PVLAN100 as the VLAN isolated inside your PVLAN stay there.

PVLAN100

-PVLAN 101 isolated

-PVLAN 102 community

PVLAN100 will be your wall switch or firewall.

Re: Question of DMZ

When I get to my system that has video on it that I will draw a diagram that hopefully will be able to help see a bit better

(2.) your other physical servers as DNS, Exchange, ect will be able to speak to what is in your isolated or community if you have a road or a rule in your firewall to do.  If for example VPLAN 101 cannot speak of VPLAN100, who will be your firewall or switch. 102 PVLAN can talk about everything that is also in the same community and PVLAN100.  If pVLAN100 is running to your firewall, then you can put rules in place or the roads instead of having other VIRTUAL networks to talk about some things

I hope this has helped

    (1) what happens if vCenter crashes and I can not get it back?

VCenter backup DB and SSL and you can get your vCenter back, both in 5.1, you can export your configuration of vDS.

    (2) do I rip the host/vm off the old vDS causing a failure to put them on the new vDS?

Not as long as you have an additional uplink, just set up a group of similar ports on the new switch and change the label for the virtual machine network point to the new port group.

    (3) which would cause a failure?

    MOM

    (4) the old configuration of vDS can get drawn in the new vCenter?

Yes if you have an export and 5.1.

    (5) what happens if vCenter is good, but our SQL Server dies?  I guess we just restore the backup from the night before?

Death of SQL, vCenter dies. If you have a SQL backup or start fresh food.

  • May 4 ESX and ESXi 4.1 exist in the same Cluster?

    Hello all-

    Installation program:

    vSphere 4.0 Infrastructure

    • CLUSTER1 = 2 ESX 4.0 hosts (Enterprise license) (HA/DRS)

    • Networking is standard vSwitches

    • Storage is Compellent SAN Fiber Channel

    • About 20 mV

    • 2 = 2 ESX 4.0 hosts (EnterprisePlus licenses) cluster (HA/DRS)

    • Networking is Cisco Nexus 1000v Distributed Virtual Switch

    • Storage is Compellent SAN Fiber Channel

    • About 15 virtual machines

    The question is this:

How can I upgrade correctly these four hosts 4 ESX to ESXi 4.1 with very little or no interruption of service?   Yet once ESX 4 & gt; ESXi 4.1

    Notes:

    • Assume that I already have vCenter Server 4.1 installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 with a compatible SQL database.

More information?  I can provide.  Can I just disable HA/DRS, upgrade to a host at a time and then add it to the respective cluster and configure?  What difficulties will be the Nexus switch vDS cause?

  • How to fix a mistake created by VDS Dynamic provider.

I've seen the event ID 10 error caused by VDS Dynamic provider. I tried to fix it slaughter and restarting however the error comes back. I use Windows Vistax64 in HP computer. Please see the details of the problem.

    Log name: System

    Source: VDS dynamic of information

    Date:

    Event ID: 10

    Task category: no

    Level: error

    Keywords: Classic

    User: n/a

Description: the provider failed while storing notifications from the driver. The virtual disk Service must be restarted. HR = 80042505

Name of the provider = 'VDS Dynamic provider'

    EventID qualifiers = "49410" > 10

    Thank you.

    Hi shield - I.

This problem occurs because the virtual disk service will stop providers of virtual disk when it stops. When this happens, the virtual disk service cancels registration for notifications of pilot. Then, the service stops the processing thread notification.

Because the process occurs in the present order, the processing of notification thread can remind the driver once the provider has registered for notifications with the driver. In this case, an event is logged.

To resolve this issue if you have an application, accessory or service who experiences a beginning of virtual disk failure, restart the virtual disk service.

Note: Even if the virtual disk service has been restarted once, the issue may still occur after the operating system is restarted.

Take a look at the link to the following article:

10 event ID can be registered on a computer that is running a clean installation of Windows Vista SP1 or Windows Server 2008

    I hope this helps.

  • VMotion vm between 2 hosts with switch std and vds

    Nice day.

I had 2 hosts (5.5 and 5.0) uinder signle vCenter and I need to move all the VMs from the second one (5.0) to the first (5.5). ESXi 5.5 is the distributed vswitch so I decided to remove the single vmnic of vds and add it to the standard switch. This host has 4 vmk interfaces now - 3 in the vds (simple management (10.12.0.41) and 2 for vmotion, but now the flag "use it for vmotion" is disabled) and only vmk (vmk3) in standard vswitch. vmk3 is falgged for vmotion only, its address is 10.12.0.100. Host 5.0 is located in another network, single vmk0 (192.168.107.94) and it is marked for traffic management and vmotion. OK, now, I put the correct rules on my router but vmotion ifaces cannot see the other cause of on ESXi 5.5 routing table:

    by default 0.0.0.0 10.12.0.1 vmk0 MANUAL

    10.12.0.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 vmk0 MANUAL

    10.30.1.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 vmk1 MANUAL

and if I add route adds via vmk0, so vmk3 on ESXi 5.5 is not always on the road. Of more if I have "show the routing table" of the vmk in the vSphere client - I got an empty list. How can I add a route for vmkernel specific interface?

P.S. Add what esxi 5.0 service VDS is no option for me.

Wow, I guess my problem is solved. Tbh it was not a problem at all. I knew that you can not migrate vm group of standard port of a host to group ports distributed from another host, BUT it seems that I can use vmotion vmkernel interface that is in the Group of ports on a vmk host and vmotion to the Group of standard on another host port, so I just deleted the vmk3 and set vmk0 to be used also for vmotion traffic.

    Hello.

  • HP Flex10 and config recommended vDS for HA and failover?

In the last two days I have experienced connectivity issues with my VM and I think I reduced it to beacon probing when is used as a failover mechanism in my groups of port / VLAN. I guess that the broader question "is what the settings recommended for failover based on my hardware configuration"...

My ESXi hosts run 5.0.0U1 or 5.1.0 I just walking to vCenter 5.1.0a. Hosts are BL460c G7 servers in a c7000 with ICs Flex10 chassis. Each ESXi has a profile of server blade with 4 FlexNICs: a pair for the movement of data all VM (several Tagged VLAN) that belong to a vDS. The second pair is used for all traffic management and (at the moment I have reset) is on a stand-alone vSwitch with untagged traffic.

Uplinks for each IC go with the Avaya VSP9000 switch. The two VSP9ks are connected by a STI trunk with all the VLAN tagged.

Initially, I discovered the source of my traffic has dropped with the ARP table of a computer virtual pretend flip flop between the local binding of 10 GB on an Avaya and the link of the IST for the other Avaya (i.e. the uplink of the other IC module was used), which can cause a small temporary loop.

No matter what method of load balancing I configure in the PG (stick to those supported by VC) and regarless if I have the two dvUplinks marked as Active or a marked as Active and the other as the day before, I see occasional about-face when beacon probing is used.

I've set up virtual networks in Virtual Connect to use Smart Link, so I hope that Link Status should only be enough.

Now while I still don't entirely understand beacon probe (I read about it on a few posts), I was hoping that it could provide a little more resilience despite having Smart Link set up on the side of VC.

So for those of you who have the same hardware configuration, how you have configured your?

Long term, I would like to bring to the management of virtual machines inside the vDS, mainly to have more flexibility in the management of bandwidth to have a slice of the 10 GB uplink established Virtual Connect level. I tried to put the management in the vDS but failed miserably and I think it's down to a scenario of chickens and eggs and I get the order to execute orders wrong... I'll look in that, once my configuration problem above fundamental network has been sorted.

    Thank you

regarding overhead... NIOC is... good... but the general rule is that we release the core esx... so if we use more features... it will finally be an overhead projector... and if physical hardware does the same... thing... so it's better... This is why vmware has now VAAI... SRIOV... CPU/Memory unloading... If someone does not have the blades... and then if they have 10gig NIOC is only option...

    http://pibytes.WordPress.com/2013/01/12/multi-NIC-VMotion-speed-and-performance-in-vSphere-5-x/

Management and vMotion are on the same VLAN (but different IP addresses) - it is recommended to use a VLAN from a safety perspective... and in production, this is how we do it. they can share the same NIC... no problem... but it should be labeled. 2 natachasery with 2gbe is good - I have recently done a comparative analysis of the speed of vmotion in the blade, you can see more info in my blog - http://pibytes.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/multi-nic-vmotion-speed-and-performance-in-vsphere-5-x/

    So a few questions:

    • I understand that you recommend keeping management / management of vMotion in a pair separated from flexNICs way to not give an additional charge within VMware.

It is not mandatory... we have to use separate NICs... its all based on the customer's environment. But in separate VLANS... of couse VST marking consumes cycles CPU... we can ignore... the world... This is ignored. in case, you can use 2 natachasery with 2gbe to combine the mgmt/vmotion.

    • Y at - it an advantage of splitting management and vMotion in different VLAN but keep in the same uplink (so the VLAN tagging)

security wise and best practices in production, we use separate VLANS, and we can share the same NIC...... There are some use cases as... that if you have 100 guests... and there may be several vmotions happening at the same time... in this case, we use dedicated pSwitch so that VMOtion traffic will not FLOOD the main switch. so here we use natachasery dedicated... in a small environment and a well balanced and if not on subscription of cluster CPU/RAM, then there is very little happening VMotion... If we can share the same natachasery and same pswitch.

    • Would we be better to use two different pairs of FlexNICs, one for management and one for vMotion using 3 pairs of FlexNICs in total (1 for all data VLAN, one not marked for management and a third no marked for vMotion). If so, I guess you'd give different bandwidths in VC to keep vMotion, nice and fast?

According to my bench marking... what I did... If we give... 2GbE for vmotion, going too fast... and once again, as I said above... We can combine... or just give 2 natachasery with a bandwidth of 500 MB for mgmt and 2 gig for vmotion for VM traffic rest... * it is a good design... Here, we have isolated physically and VLAN wise as we need to isolate.

for the low response fo the console... check the DNS resolution... and nothing to do with... the bandwidth. Check the CPU/RAM vcenter and the Vcenter CPU/RAM database...

  • vDS and disconnect a host

I am running vSphere 5 with some hosts on a vDS.  I need to replace my vCenter certificate that requires disconnection of all hosts managed my vCenter, then reconnect.

This will cause all the hosts/VM on the vDS to lose network connectivity when they are disconnected from vCenter?

    Matt Baldwin wrote:

Even if I manually disconnect the host?

Yes, even if you disconnect from the host. He will appear in vCenter as "disconnected", but keep all its configuration information cached on the host computer. You can connect directly to the host to check.

  • upgrade to vCenter 4.1 to 5.0 and vDS...

    Hi guys

I want to enhance vcenter 4.1 to 5.0... I ealready created a normal vSwitch to manage my vCenter but I would like to know if my VMs who are the 4 different dvportgroups in my main vDS will be down while I update my vCenter?

or I should all move toward normal vSwitch?

    Thank you very much

DvSwitch architecture is such that the data plan resides on individual ESX / I host, and all traffic is sent and received through the hosts data plan. The control plan is responsible for managing configuration changes, and resides on the vCenter server.

Therefore, I don't think the upgrade will have an impact on existing virtual machines, but you will not be able to make changes to the same as existing exchanges when the vCenter is out of service.

A few points on a side note,

--> Make sure to spend at least once by the vSphere upgrade guide.

--> Ensure the SSL certificates, vpxd.cfg and vCenter Database backup

--> Please check the ESX / I version that you use on the matrix of VMware interoperaibility. VMware ESX/ESXi 4.1 (without U1 or U2) is not compatible with the 5.0 vCenter and can cause the CMTF:

    http://PartnerWeb.VMware.com/comp_guide2/SIM/interop_matrix.php

    Good luck with the upgrade

  • Migrate to vDS for iSCSI Software

So I'm going through the vDS migration guide, but I'm still a little fuzzy on how I need to migrate my VMKernel ports software iSCSI. Here is my setup...

I have 4 hosting a test cluster. Two network ports are dedicated on each host for vSwitch1 which has a VMKernel port with an IP address in the 10.5.33.

How can I disconnect from my software iSCSI initiator or migrate the IP address of a vSS to a vDS without a cause of a conflict?

    http://www.keithsopher.com/Images/VCP_logo_40.gif

While add you ESX host service VDS, there is an option to add the console service & VMkernel iSCSI to the vDS. If you already add this particular vDS host, remove first the host of vDS.

    Hello.

I upgraded to Sierra, since as soon as Itunes is launched, the com.apple.medialibraryservice is originally a large memory leak, it keeps in ram more until she takes all (16 GB) and significantly slows down the computer.

I tried to reset the nvram and smc memory, doesn't change anything.

Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this leak and is there a solution?

Yes, I noticed this also. After that I opened iTunes, it's just a matter of time before all the memory gets used up and all departure is wobbly. In particular, bluetooth really gets bug after a certain time, and as soon as I quit iTunes, that's fine.

    Hello

I noticed a problem with macOS Sierra running on a Mid 2015 15 "MacBook Pro with the retina display. Sometimes when I press F3 to access presentation and my several computers desktop computer freezes and goes back to the login screen.

When I log in, it's like I started a new session and the apps I had open start back once again, but with their wiped sessions. This happens to me about 3 times in a day's work, most of the time that exposed works very well. Very strange!

Did anyone else encounter this problem at all?

    Hi there, stvwlkr!

Thank you for joining the communities Support from Apple! Looks like you are having problems with the Mission control. I know how important it is to make sure that it works correctly. What you might want to try is then a specific restart. Read this article for trying safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning. Although this article is about the computer does not start correctly, it can also perform repairs and stop startup items that can cause problems.

Another option you can try is in this article: How to test a problem in another user on your Mac account. This will allow you to check to see if the problem is specific to the user or the system-wide.

All applications are unusable, cannot load system preferences, constantly get "led unexpected resignations" error windows pop up that won't go away.   It wont let me report it to Apple and ignore just made another appear.

First time I started to the Cmd - R system recovery and reloaded OS - X and spent a few hours fixing all the links of the app, then reloaded the updated security after several own boots and's done it exactly the same again.

Having just now booted to safe mode and empty the contents of/Users/yourname/Library/Caches in the trash, but it made no difference.  Have a time machine backup of it is 6 weeks, but not yet used.
