VDS

HI all, I have 2 groups and 50 guests. I want to do for cr8 Distributed Switch. Please guide me as I am not convinced.

By default wen I have cr8 db switch is 4 uplinks. This means 4 uplinks by esxi hosts.and after that how to assign port groups and vmkernel ports to this topic.

I can cr8 another switch separate db for vmotion, another for storage vmotion

Hello, the default value is 4 uplinks by vDS, but you can change this value based on the physical NETWORK card number, you have in your host and how many of them you want to put in the vDS. Create about several different vDS, once again, it's depending on how much vmnic you have in your ESXi, but in many scenarios, we create vDS alone with several groups of ports, with each port to another type of traffic group.

    Thank you.

    Hi shield - I.

This problem occurs because the virtual disk service will stop providers of virtual disk when it stops. When this happens, the virtual disk service cancels registration for notifications of pilot. Then, the service stops the processing thread notification.

Because the process occurs in the present order, the processing of notification thread can remind the driver once the provider has registered for notifications with the driver. In this case, an event is logged.

To resolve this issue if you have an application, accessory or service who experiences a beginning of virtual disk failure, restart the virtual disk service.

Note: Even if the virtual disk service has been restarted once, the issue may still occur after the operating system is restarted.

  • How to start VDS in Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

I have a problem, and it's been a while and still not solved...

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit right now and I want to upgrade to Windows 7, but installation is NOT going through perhaps because of the virtual disk service.

How to START the virtual disk service? Everytime I try through services, I get an error 3: the system cannot find the path specified.

Please tell me HOW to start the virtual disk service. and please do NOT move this thread on the forum windows 7, I posted in the front Vista section and moved to the region of Win 7, where my problem has not been resolved. Please leave it in this section. Thank you.

Ok. The file is in the right place. The registry is missing the path to
the file. Wonder how that happens - sigh?

Type Regedit in the search box of the start menu.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vds

Right-click on an empty area in the right pane - choose new - extensible
String value. Name ImagePath (F2 key renames it). Double-click
    ImagePath and assign
    %SystemRoot%\System32\vds.exe

Now you can start the service?

  • UCSM / VMware vCenter Server dependencies for vDS

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences between the vDS created via UCSM / VMware vCenter integration and the traditional N1K.

If correctly, the vDS UCSM (1.4) does not require the VSM device which is necessary with the N1K.  And if that is correct, is there any dependency on vCenter?  If vCenter falls down the vDS will continue to operate normally as made them act as the VSM?

    Pete,

There is a dependency on vCenter, similar to N1kv (software) and UCSM vDS (hardware), applies to both methods of implementation. However, if vCenter goes down the current state of the operation continues. When a change occurs on the virtual machine, that is where should be upward a vCenter race.

Concerning best practices, I was that it is better to have everything on the vDS for operational reasons. You can then apply and manage the kernal ports in the same case that VM vNIC. QoS, etc... There is a nice documentation on www.cisco.com/go/designzone data Center on this topic.

How can I solve this problem?
    Thank you.

    Hi all

Today, I noticed the same error (vds basic provider error code: 490@01010004) on one of our hyper-V (Windows Server 2008 R2) server hosts. The server was recording this error 10 or more times a day since June 1, 2010! I searched the Internet and found this KB:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979391. Yes according to Microsoft"this event can be ignored".

Whenever I open the event log, all I see is this a thousand times recorded error. This is why I can't find the error by ignoring a very wise resolution. At least according to Microsoft, it indicate any problem.

  • VMotion vm between 2 hosts with switch std and vds

    Nice day.

I had 2 hosts (5.5 and 5.0) uinder signle vCenter and I need to move all the VMs from the second one (5.0) to the first (5.5). ESXi 5.5 is the distributed vswitch so I decided to remove the single vmnic of vds and add it to the standard switch. This host has 4 vmk interfaces now - 3 in the vds (simple management (10.12.0.41) and 2 for vmotion, but now the flag "use it for vmotion" is disabled) and only vmk (vmk3) in standard vswitch. vmk3 is falgged for vmotion only, its address is 10.12.0.100. Host 5.0 is located in another network, single vmk0 (192.168.107.94) and it is marked for traffic management and vmotion. OK, now, I put the correct rules on my router but vmotion ifaces cannot see the other cause of on ESXi 5.5 routing table:

    by default 0.0.0.0 10.12.0.1 vmk0 MANUAL

    10.12.0.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 vmk0 MANUAL

    10.30.1.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 vmk1 MANUAL

and if I add route adds via vmk0, so vmk3 on ESXi 5.5 is not always on the road. Of more if I have "show the routing table" of the vmk in the vSphere client - I got an empty list. How can I add a route for vmkernel specific interface?

P.S. Add what esxi 5.0 service VDS is no option for me.

Wow, I guess my problem is solved. Tbh it was not a problem at all. I knew that you can not migrate vm group of standard port of a host to group ports distributed from another host, BUT it seems that I can use vmotion vmkernel interface that is in the Group of ports on a vmk host and vmotion to the Group of standard on another host port, so I just deleted the vmk3 and set vmk0 to be used also for vmotion traffic.

  • Conduct active/active uplink VDS with return back option 'no '.

    All,

I meet the situation that is specified in this blog: http://tinyurl.com/hvheosx

I tested rising active/active configuration (2) and the option of automatic catering on 'no', but it always results in failing, back to the original uplink.  I am able to configure the uplink to active/passive strategy and configuration works as stated, but the setting seems less ideal because new connections would not be balanced between uplinks.  Has there been an update service VDS 5.0 corrects this behavior?

    Thank you!

NIC teaming policy set to Yes failback or wouldn't that give you make when you set NIC Teaming Active and standby.

In the drop-down auto-restore, specify if a physical card is returned to the active state after recovering from a failure.

If failback is set to Yes, the default selection, the adapter is returned to active duty at the start, moving the auxiliary map which took place, as appropriate.

If failback is set on not for a port standard, a failed adapter remains inactive after recovering to another active adapter fails and must be replaced.

    Ref: vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center

If you use active then it's methods of load balancing that you use as "From Virtual port ID", "Source Mac Hash", etc... take care to spread the load between the active adapters available. It has nothing to with what you have setup in the part of the restoration of this policy.

Thus, even the version 6 of the VDS is also to have same behavior, no change in this part.

I want to know the role of the cluster and VDS in NSX

and what is the difference with the HA or DRS cluster

    Thank you

both are presequite installation for the component of the NSX. He uses to transport VXLAN. VDS are designed to accommodate VXLAN portgroup. There is no different between cluster in HA and Drs Because it used the same cluster.

  • DSCP marking on VDS/vDPG

    Hi All-

I had a few questions and hoped that someone could chime on a few concepts around L3 DSCP tags in VMWare distributed virtual switch (ENT + license as well).  We have an application that essentially must have some DSCP tags honoured in the topology of the network.  This has already been created on any physical network equipment, however they are robbed on somewhere and as of now looks like in the virtual switch or a group of ports.  Is this possible (?), the reason that I ask I think understand that the VDS and port groups were only L2 and do no routing/L3.  So my initial understanding is that he should honor the tag looks like this does not happen.

I know that I can turn on the marking on the virtual port groups as well as groups of uplink ports.  What makes more sense to do it, or do you need to do both?  I looked over all the documentation VMWares and nothing doesn't really explain the difference.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

In case someone runs into it - I ended up understanding.  If you honor a tag L3 QoS, VMWare does nothing with him, they don't manage L2 on the VDS/VDPG - it is all run on the physical infrastructure.  We had missed a configuration on an interface.  When you use tags L3 DSCP, you need to do nothing in VMWare.

  • vDS now comes with the NSX for vSphere

    Hello

I found a few kb articles saying that we can use vDS on any edition of vSphere with the NSX.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2135310

    • If you are using VMware vSphere 5.5 update 3 or vSphere 6.0.x, NSX VMware vSphere 6.x does not require a license of vSphere Enterprise Plus and can run on any edition of vSphere.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1010555

    • Note: vDS is now delivered with NSX to vSphere (NSXv) and VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN) in vSphere 6.0.

I've implemented the vSphere environment with the standard license and NSX for vSphere with the license of the company.

But I can't use vDS. If I can create new vDS on vCenter, I can't add hosts with standard license to a vDS.

    I used below products.

    • ESXi 6.0.0
    • vCSA 6.0.0.
    • NSX for vSphere 6.2.1

Have someone at - he tried vSphere standard with NSX license ?

If I could, might have some tips?

Any kinds of comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Danne

Thank you. In this case, I think you're right. I have not tried specifically because I rarely see Standard.

Please open an SR for support can examine why this is happening. Sorry I can't be more help.

  • Start the virtual machine and wait for WF, does not connect to the computer virtual for Vds (Windows 2008 R2)

    Hello

See a strange problem with only a Windows 2008 R2 model. When you use the built-in function "Start VM and wait" workflow to start a virtual machine (after conversion from a template either manually, or through workflow) NIC of the virtual machine (I tried VMXNET3 and e1000 times) does not connect to the problem. Vds can be replicated in a different VCenter, so spreading the vds. I also created several models of Windows 2008 r2 and all have this problem.

If the model is converted and started outside VRO, it gets an IP from and is connected to the VDS immediately

Tried add/remove the NIC of the model

Tried to move the comments on different hosts

Tried to create a new template from scratch

NOTE: Windows 2012 R2 doesn't have this problem in the same circles, the only constant is the Windows 2008 R2 being started by VRO.

    Anyone seen this before?

I found this article and it fixed my problem VMware KB: registration or the deployment of a virtual computer model fails apparently a fix a problem in ESX 5.1, 5.5 (I used the option to get around and things are good)

  • Binding VMK to vDS portgroup

    Hi guys,.

I try to add iSCSI to ESXi storage. It's on vCenter 6 device and ESXi hosts that have been upgraded to ESXi 5.5 6.  I have created 2 Exchange iSCSI in a vDS, the vSS vmk migrated vDS (it was on a different set of physical NIC in vSS). Configured the 1:1 relationship between vmk and physical NIC but I don't see the vmk trying to link it to a storage card. What I'm missing here. I've done this many times before, so I'm sure I did it correctly. I also checked using esxcli, if there is anything related to the vmhab - nothing. When I try to link the vmhba, interestingly I see the physical NETWORK card that was previously attached to the vmk. I think that there is a link between the vmk and the NIC physical. If so, how do I remove the link to it?

    Update *.

If I move the vSS or vDS vmk who has the old physical NIC, I'm able to bind the vmk to vmhba. So, it seems like there is a connection between the vmk and the NIC physical. Someone knows how to remove the link to them?

    SOLVED!

Simply put a note that I managed to solve this problem. It may be useful to someone. There was a configuration error in the NPAR configuration in the BIOS of the host. Even if I had changed the NPAR to accept unloading iSCSI on network cards, it has not been applied. I had to change to new NPAR and thereafter, I managed to connect iSCSI vmk.
